The bar is very bland, the service is slow and the drinks are blah. Skip it.

Stopped here for lunch with Jaclyn S. after a trip to Ipso Crafto to pick up crafting supplies. We got a nice table on the rooftop deck right away(which was a plus considering the wait times at the couple other places we attempted to get into before heading here). Aside from the great seat, everything else about my experience here was nothing more than average. I got a bowl of their chili and a side of fries, while my friend opted for the grilled cheese.(OK so maybe we didn’t go with the most original choices in food…) The chili was average, but I did like how it it was nice and spicy! The fries were good, but again, nothing out-of-this world. The service was not the most attentive, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and round up to 3 stars since business did pick up after we had sat down and the waiter had his hands full. On the plus side, we each got a meal for about $ 7 so I can’t complain that much.

Do you like service? Maybe you shouldn’t go here then. I’ve been here twice and been almost completely ignored which was fine because we weren’t in a hurry or anything, but dayum, can a girl get some beer refills up in hurr?! Sheesh. Also, don’t get the chef salad, it’s weird. They put a load of lunch meat on top of it(whaaa?). It seems like Marty’s does ok because: A. It’s one of the only pub-like places on Barracks Row, and B. People don’t expect much from it. Well, I think it’s fair to expect better service than this. It’s absolutely lousy.

Solid performance. I thought I was going to bust into tears as it took a while for my margarita to come — but come it did and it was a good one. The food is solid, basic bar food. If I lived in the neighborhood this would be my meat and potatoes. For those of you who do not live near the tow-away zone parking outside is only Monday — Friday and you can park like a VIP in theat spot on Saturday.

Like most other reviews on here… this place has average food and average service. Went here for the first time yesterday and mostly enjoyed the atmosphere. The place was packed for lunchtime, but we didn’t have to wait too long for our food. I ordered a Marty burger, which is HUGE! The burger is too large for the bun and you will need to use a fork and knife to not make a fool of yourself. The burger also comes with half a plate of potato chips, which was fine even though I would have preferred fries. Our table had some trouble deciphering the bill, but all agreed it was a great place to escape for lunch and laughs. I would definitely go here again with a group of friends or co-workers!

Marty’s is a great neighborhood pub-like place with traditional American-fare. The burgers are huge and tasty, although you have to be really emphatic about how you’d like it cooked because the cooks are inconsistent. The salads are good, the veggies are adequate and the service is touch-and-go. There’s a lot of room in the restaurant which would make it great for an office lunch or dinner, or for a birthday party with picky American eaters. There’s also a rooftop deck which is often accessorized with inflatable seasonal décor. My favorite bartender from Marty’s left recently, but the staff is still cordial. They have a lot of regulars and video games, and they’re often filled up with Hill staffers and business people, but the laid back atmosphere makes up for it. The front patio is also a nice touch, and they are certainly dog friendly should you want to bring your pooch along for dinner.

The food was just okay, not even good and definitely not great. The service was lousy. Our waitress only came twice. She didn’t bring our food and we waited at least 10 minutes for her to just refill our water. Then after her second appearance she never came back. We had to walk downstairs and find her so that we could pay the bill. I definitely would not recommend going here. Even for the price you pay, I would still expect better service than what we got.

Marty’s is casual and kid-friendly. I went there for lunch last weekend, and as usual, I ordered steamed vegetables and French fries. They were just-okay(what does one expect, I suppose). I’ve also been and have sampled their brunch buffet, which was not-fancy, but it did have eggs, sausage and other conventional items. I edited my review to 3-stars because of the roof patio. It’s good in the summer and is just about the only place on Barrack’s Row that has a roof patio. They have a tent area, too, so one can enjoy the roof, even in light rain. Service was good but not intrusive. Price is moderate. My bill was much less than $ 10. They have a roof deck, which is fun when the weather’s nice. It’s not bad. Marty’s is a good place to meet an old friend.

I find myself going here with groups for lunch quite a bit. It’s reliable, but not great. Good for groups of people from work with different tastes. I consistently get the Caesar Salad with Salmon. It’s good, not great, but the price is right. I haven’t come at night, but it seems the bar would be pretty lively. Service can sometimes be spotty, but the manager is very friendly and helpful.

Decent… Not bad… but not great either. Standard American fare… a lot like TGI Friday’s or Applebees but not a chain. Great when in a crunch, but nothing to write home about.

Marty’s is the kind of neighborhood bar/restaurant you keep going back to, not because the food or service are spectacular, but because it just feels comfortable. When my friends and I want a burger on the hill, this is definitely our default bar. Although I’ve had mixed service, I can’t complain about the food — it’s decent American fare. The crowd at Marty’s defintely seems like neighborhood folk. They’re also kid friendly, I often see alot of families eating there on weekends or on early weekday nights. The outdoor seating in front and on their roofdeck is the best during good weather.

On a Saturday night, when you yourself have been working hard behind a bar serving drinks for hours on end, sometimes you just want to go out afterwards and be served a drink as well. So last night, I went to Marty’s with two friends. It was already 1am, and they seemed to be the less busy of the open bars on 8th and on Pennsylvania. This is what we wanted as I was a bit tired and had a lot of catching up to do(drink-wise). The bartenders at Marty’s are pretty awesome guys. The patrons were also pretty cool. Free popcorn on the bar and cheap drinks, to boot? Sounds like a five star joint to me. The super cool people, laid back atmosphere, and good music you can even sing along to(Jane’s Addiction all the way up to newer alt rock radio stuff) make Marty’s a place I would return to with no questions asked. I can’t comment on the food, though.
