History

Established in 2009.

Maddy’s Bar and Grille is the joint venture of two friends, Dale Shields and Gaynor Jablonski, who have known each other for over 20 years. Dale, a former bartender, joined with Gaynor, the owner of The Ugly Mug (visit him on 8^th St.) to form Maddy’s Bar and Grille. Maddy’s is named after Dale’s mother, Madeline Shields, who lost her battle with cancer 6 years ago. In her spirit, Maddy’s will celebrate Maddy’s Day every May 13^th with 100% of profits going to the Lombardi Cancer Center at Georgetown Hospital.

Great place to watch the game. Tory was awesome. Chicken strip appetizer was great with good sauces. The staff was also really nice turning on the game for us and even turning a tv so we could see better. The place was clean, a lot of good beers on tap and the tune they played were nice to listen to, but not so loud you couldn’t chat. If you are in dupont or staying at the dupont hilton, this is the place to go.

Nice relaxing bar. Bartenders always go above and beyond. Would have given 5 stars but they have taken so much off the menu including the Pot Roast which was really good on the Nachos. Also you can’t have all the urinals in the mens bathroom broken for an entire weekend. Try the old Bay wings.

The beer selection is good, I like the staff, but the bathroom is total disaster. Both urinals were bagged off, and the floor was completely wet. The toilet stall had feces all over the floor. Like not a little bit. I left immediately after. I still feel unclean.

Super last minute restaurant find that started with 3 people and morphed into 8. Staff was accommodating with our additional guests and the bill for 8 was under $ 300! Great happy hour and good specials. Even without he specials, the menu is reasonably priced.
Pretty cool fan pulley system too that you’ll notice when you look at up at the gorgeous tin ceiling:)

Terrance is a pro. Not only did he bring us cold beer but he chose to connect on a personal level. We chose to cash out before Terrance left because of his outstanding service.
After Terrance left, and we were willing to drink more, the replacement bartender never approached us. We left because we were ignored.

Good, but beers too warm and food not warm enough. odd. If they can get that issue straight they’d have a total winner burger; really was good, as was lobster bisque. Sweet potato fries to cold to even eat service and selection good and patio nice.

Of all the locations we visited on the Mojito March, this one was the favorite for friendly bar staff, good drink and great food.
We split an order of the mini pulled pork sliders (comes with three) with fried onions; these little gems were delicious. The buns were fresh and soft, the pulled pork properly spiced and just the right amount of sauce. Had I not had lunch already a couple hours before, I would have ordered a second bunch.
The bar has a great scotch selection and array of beers on tap. We will be back.

My friends and I came here to have dinner. Right off the bat, the woman wearing a hat who served us was rude and just unwelcoming. It almost felt like we were inconveniencing her because she had her eyes glued to the basketball playoff game that was happening.
I ordered the beer battered chicken sandwich. It was huge for $ 12! I should have just split with a friend but this definitely can feed two people. It was pretty good. I’ve never had chicken sandwich done that way.
Overall, the food was okay and service was terrible.
Her attitude from the moment we got there and while ordering left a bad impression.

I stumbled into this bar slash restaurant a little after 11pm on a Sunday night. In a drunken stupor my friends and I settled on the sliders, wings & quesadilas.

Fun atmosphere… temperature was a bit cool for me. MANY beers to choose from. I had a local brew (Port City) that was delicious.
Service was good. We both had the pulled pork. It was good. The cole slaw was… ummm…interesting. I ate it all, so I guess it must have been good.
Someone said that if you’re in DC you have to go there. I don’t agree with that, but if you happen to be in the area, it isn’t a bad choice for a beer and dinner.

Would be a great local bar for me: lots of TVs with sports, good draft selection, friendly staff, and good bar food. Enjoyed the pork sliders with The Truth IPA. My friends had a Ruben and mini burgers. Smiles all around.

I visited while staying at the Washington Hilton just up the hill. The service was amazing, and the choices for craft beer were pretty good. I can’t complain about the food or time it took to get. The vibe inside was very relaxing and made for a good escape from the brusqueness of DC. However, the prices were definitely D.C. After a few more visits, I can see a possible 4-star rating.
Bottom line: if you’re visiting and in the area, make this one of your stops, especially if you just need a drink or two.

A fun and casual place to catch up with a friend. The atmosphere was pretty lax and the service was good. Our waitress was really friendly and offered great suggestions when we asked about the menu.
They have great «small plates’ which could easily be a full meal. My friend and I took advantage of their $ 4 pints of Angry Orchard since that was their Wednesday special. We also ordered the sliders and sweet potato fries. The sliders were pretty decent but the sweet potato fries were the real winner. They came with two dipping sauces, including a delicious chipotle mayo.

Friendly, low key neighborhood style bar with a pretty good tap selection. Bartender is really friendly and made some good beer recommendations. They have also had a special punch cocktail for charity in May which was tasty.
They put the Nats game on one TV when I asked but then changed all TVs to Preakness when it was on even though I was still watching the game so that was annoying.
Good place and I’ll be back but next time let me have the hometown team over a horse race in a different state.

I found the service to be extremely subpar on my first and only visit to Maddy’s.
The food is not bad; I ordered the pesto flatbread which ended up being a personal sized pizza with bacon, red pepper, spinach, pesto and goat cheese. My partner ordered buffalo wings — we received BBQ wings instead.
I asked for water twice and never received it. Our food arrived with no silverware and with our waitress nowhere in sight, I had to go to the bar to ask for it.
We had to ask the hostess for the check because our waitress failed to return to our table at all.
Based on the service, I would not return or recommend this place.
