Las Canteras was a quiet haven from the Adams Morgan noise. We enjoyed sharing our food here.

Had an amazing dinner here with friends. Everything was delicious including the appetizers (best ceviche I’ve had in DC) and my entrée quinotto-​a risotto made with quinoa with asparagus and shrimp. The pisco sours were incredible too. The setting is wonderful-​enjoyed the Peruvian music. We can’t wait to return.

Simply amazing! The food is top notch if you are looking for authentic Peruvian food beyond the typical rotisserie chicken. I had the seco con frejoles and it was amazing the meat melts in your mouth and you could really taste all the spices come together. It’s a little small but that’s just Adams Morgan. The actual décor is very old Lima which is very authentic.

Ceviche and jalea were over priced and way too salty. Server was super nice and it was a romantic atmosphere. Pity.

The ceviche is perfect. Wouldn’t really change much from this place.

Great Peruvian food! The only place in the DMV area that I can recommend to others without hesitation. And I’m Peruvian so I’m very picky when it comes to it, especially considering I’ve tried most in the area. Las Canteras blows the other ones out of the water. I recommend the seafood options primarily. They get them right every time. Their ginger heaven cocktail was amazing as well.

Food is above average in this place. I really enjoyed my dinner and I was having a good time until we got the check and 18% gratuity was included for my party of 3… service was good but what makes this people think it was 18% good?
The funny part is that I usually tip 20%… anyway I do not recomendamos this place and I will not be going back.

The food was good. I ordered a fish stew and it was great.
However the portions are shockingly small. I got a small bowl of the stew and HALF a cup of rice. When i go to a Hispanic restaurant i expect generous portions specially when i am paying over $ 20 a plate.
But in hindsight the fact that the only hispanic people in the place was were staff should have tipped me off to this please not being quite rite.

Wife and I tried this place for our monthly date night. We were pleasantly surprised. This place is a gem.
I would definitely recommend Las Canteras. The ceviche was amazing.

Just came here for the first time tonight and loved it! Great and fun dinner atmosphere for a Saturday night, we sat in the back room and it was very dark but our waiter was happy to dim the lights a little less and make it brighter. The food was delicious all around our table and the service was extremely friendly! For appetizers we got a papa a la huancaina which was good, and my brother and father also got the camarones a la limena, which they said were delicious (I’m allergic to shellfish so I could not try for myself). For my entrée I got the seco de carne and it was awesome! I ate about half of it and I’m still full multiple hours later. Overall, very pleased with our experience and would definitely eat here again

Came for Valentine’s Day and had a really nice dinner for a reasonable price! I came for the ceviche and it was pretty tasty. Our server was very friendly!

We went to DC this Sunday and were looking for Peruvian food, decided to go in after seeing so many good reviews.
I felt like the food was over priced but then again we are the capital so maybe is normal.
The food was good i wouldn’t say great or amazing.
I order papas rellena which where good but not as crispy.
And i order risotto style quinoa with shrimp was very good and filling but for $ 20 i would expect more shrimps had only 4.
I was disappointed in my dessert choice i got the guava flan was not what i expected it was very sweet and dry and felt more like a guava paste although it was tasty didn’t tastes like guava.

This place is special to us as we had our first peruvian cuisine here and we are glad we were more than happy. The service and food both were perfect.

This place is great — went there for their last seating, 9pm… and the waiter was just awesome.
Had the mixed fried carne (chicken/​beef with red onions)…man it was just deeelish!
Their bread and this spicy green sauce was out of this world. My wife just wanted to eat that and go home.lol.the mixed Ceviche’, was very tangy, but you wanted more of it, cuz it’s amazing!
I had the Lomo saltado. now, is it tasty? Yes, it sure is… but honestly, there are other delicious options which is probably much tastier.
All in all — they get a 3 star given that the food could have better and the ambiance was great.

PISCOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SOURS!!! That was the divine purpose of this visit. At $ 10 a pop, you can get a pretty good tasty drink. I don’t know if it is the best pisco sour I’ve had in the city, but I won’t complain… it was pretty good, and Gary the owner/​bartender took care of my dear friend and I for our visit.
This place has a great menu that is in need of being explored with items ranging from $ 14 – 22 per entrée while signature cocktail drinks range from $ 9 – 11. I am not sure when I would get the chance to come back, but I am sure it will be when it warms up some more.

I have walked by this place hundreds of times in the last few years and have never noticed it. Luckily I stumbled upon this page on Unilocal and saw that it was close to where I live, reasonably priced, and has great reviews, the perfect trifecta.
It is a little confusing getting into the restaurant because the giant unmarked door, but go for it and you’ll be fine. Once inside it is a nice, quiet, dimly lit restaurant that is relatively small. Tables are a little tight in the space, but I got a table off to the side and it was great.
For food I got the Lomo Saltado and my friend got the Pescado a La Macho. Both were thoroughly enjoyed. The pescado sauce was very sweet, which I don’t think is well advertised on the menu, so if you are one of the millions of Americans that don’t enjoy sweet with your savory this may not be the dish for you… I am glad my friend ordered it and not me. The Lomo Saltado had great flavor although I felt the onions were a little under cooked for my tastes. I probably enjoy my onions more cooked and mushy than most of the population though.
Overall a nice date spot with a good atmosphere and food.

We came here on Valentines and they gave everyone a prefixed menu for $ 49 per person plus tax and tip, which ends up being $ 65 per person gross. We booked this place because a few dishes looked good on Unilocal,which were, however, not offered in the prefixed menu. They did not offer the normal menu and forced everyone to take the prefix. The choices were extremely limited.
Food was very ordinary. None of the couples around us was able to finish the food and all took the last course to go.
The tables were all close to each other. You can hear others’ conversation easily.
Would have been 3 stars if it were fairly priced.

It’s sort of hidden in plain sight; the entrance is a bit withdrawn and while a menu is posted there isn’t anything to draw the eyes to Las Canteras among the other colorful options along 18^th Street. Inside, though, it’s quite impressive. The entrance is a bit counterintuitive; you’re surrounded by glass windows into the dining area, but the door is the one opaque section.
Typically, the cuisines of the Americas are not vegetarian friendly; Peruvian being no exception. This restaurant, however, offers a section of vegetarian options. It’s not a large section of the menu, but it is interesting. When I raised the issue, the server offered to point out vegan options (which in my case wasn’t necessary but if you are one at least you’ll have something). My choice was quinotto, i.e. risotto with quinoa instead of rice. It isn’t mixed with rice; it’s pure quinoa, and between that and the butter and cheese it’s cooked with it’s quite a filling dish. Vegetables included ample mushrooms, asparagus, and peppers. Normally I’m not a fan of asparagus and I’m mixed on mushrooms, but in this case it worked.
They offer an «early bird» combo from 5 – 7 on midweek days; including an appetizer entrée and dessert for one price. LC is not a cheap place by any stretch, but this is the way to go. For an appetizer, they were willing to give us something from the brunch menu: lentil cakes, which were breaded fried lentils and rice with a drizzle of really fantastic pepper sauce. Note to restaurant: put lentil cakes on the dinner menu. We went for a chocolate cake with quinoa for dessert. It didn’t last very long. You might wonder whether quinoa works as a cake, but I found it an interesting textural experience.
Between the level of décor and the service it was a pretty high-​class dining experience. It’s quiet, and withdrawn from what can be a pretty rowdy street. Our main server helped explain some of the more esoteric menu options and narrated our dishes as they were presented. It certainly struck me as being a place you could take a date or a business dinner and be on the same level as some of the more obvious French and American restaurants in the area.
On the whole, I had fairly high hopes and my expectations were met.

Visited this restaurant with my girls on Sunday. I am embarrassed to say that I had never tried Peruvian cuisine before. We decided to taste test many items on the men and we were not disappointed. Many unique flavors and great spice flavoring.
The food was delicious and the service off the charts. This place rocks! We will be back
