Good tea, great service, and Alphonse Mucha books to boot. The service here is excellent and directly correlates to the quality of the drinks. Highly recommend the ice tea as it is steeped to order and freak quality. 10⁄10 would go again and again.

A tasty little kafe(with a k) that we ducked into as the bottom dropped out of the sky. Portions were generous and they have a full bar, my kind of kafe! The highlight of the experience was the adorable barista Erin! She was professional, super friendly, thoughtful and kind. Gave two wanderers some great local insight and recommendations. Kafe bohem was the only place we stopped at twice while in DC, but we had to tell Erin«bye»!

The pastry I had was yummy and the cup of coffee was great. However — When I came to this place it was nearly empty on a Sunday afternoon, not sure if I was at the right place at the right time. There was also confusion as to whether I should expect a waiter or order over the counter or where I should sit. All of this was further compounded by the guy(hard to tell he was the owner or the waiter) who told me I have no access to wifi on the weekend(aha! I was at the wrong place at the wrong time after all!) It was the strangest rule as the kitchen also happens to be closed at the same time. I mean do they expect customers to stare at each other? The problem here is it tries to be both a restaurant and a coffee house at the same time and has it both ways. The problem with this business model is the coffee patrons would feel self conscious the way I did. Maybe it is a «European» thing but the last place that did that to me was no longer in business(that pretentious Belgium place near U &18 where I wasn’t allow to bring a laptop on the weekends). Well guess what, there are plenty of awesome places in the neighborhood that DO provide the wifi passwords. They too have yummy pastries and a great cup of coffee.

I love this place. It has a fairly large menu for a coffee shop, I love that the coffee still comes to you in porcelain and the staff is friendly while at the same time not ‘too attentive.’ Every time I come here, I do more of a light breakfast deal with an espresso and egg or waffle dish. It never disappoints. I often find myself cycling between cups of espresso and lattes if I tarry too long — a gross habit I’m susceptible to, but the coffee is good so that’s my cover. It’s also great for an actual full-on brunch, just know that it can get absolutely packed on weekends. Only critique is that sometimes the espresso is a tinge too bitter, but that’s a common thing at many places and it’s still quite good. Be sure to go in the warm months — the ambiance coupled the with menu just makes it feel quite breezy and nice. I look forward to going again.

I´ve been to Kafe Bohem a few times because my sister likes it. I have however have seen better. Their coffee is good, and they have a good selection of delicacies to compliment your cup of joe. What I don´t like is apart from the menu. The service here is less than satisfactory. The first time I came here it was like the service was on slow motion that day. The line to order was piling up and our drinks took some time. So I might have made a bit of a comment(sue me) when our food arrived, and although It was uncalled for, the server was gave me attitude and scoffed while walking away. Another thing that turns me off about Kafe Bohem is that they offer free Wi-fi. That sucks. The internet in Kafe Bohem is pretty slow. I had to use my 3g just to be able to use my phone to go online. I don´t mind coming to Kafe Bohem every now and then, because my sister likes it and their coffee and food is good, but it isn´t my first choice by a longshot.

This is a fun coffee house with great food. The apple struedle was amazing. You can get grab and go pastries or enjoy conversation with some yummy food. The place is so popular on the weekends that free Wifi is not available then.

I live approximate 25mi from my educational institution(let me repeat that because it sounds like foolishness) I live 25MILES from my educational institution, and those UNFORTUNATE mornings, that are becoming more frequent, when I need to be on campus early, I find solace in Kafe/Bistro Bohem. I stopped initially for a cup of coffee. I stayed when I found out that K/BB serves strudels, a croissant breakfast sammie and great conversation. Morning after morning, I can find myself here fully loaded on good coffee, one of their morning pastries and freeloading on their wifi. Ive encountered great service here as their baristas are openly friendly, and easy going. Notable baristas, Noah and Christy, keep the party going with their pleasantries. My early mornings call for food and tall, dark and strong drink. Unfortunately, their Chai is a little too soft, with less bite for me. All others prevail as solid full bodied coffee. The croissant egg and ham with paprika aioli, is what dreams are made of and hit the spot every time. When I’m really feeling greedy I allow their house made pastries to entice me. Overall adorable café, easy breezy with mismatched seat cushions and witty signage out front. I’m a fan and will likely continue my patronage beyond early mornings full of angst and heavy bags under my eyes.

This is one of my boyfriend’s favorite places so I was excited to try it out! My boyfriend and I both got the waffles with fruit and my boyfriend’s friend got the bahn mi sandwich. The waffles were pretty good! They came with whipped cream and peaches on top, as well as syrup and nutella on the side. All the ingredients of a perfect waffle! However, I didn’t even feel the need to put too much syrup and nutella on top because the waffle itself was already pretty sweet. I think it would’ve been better if the waffle itself was slightly less sweet. But still overall a pretty good meal. My boyfriend’s friend said the bahn mi was good, but they shouldn’t call it a bahn mi. In my opinion, a bahn mi needs to have the pickled carrots in order to be a buhn mi, however his did not. So it was just a normal chicken sandwich on french bread. Probably not worth the 12 bucks he paid for it. Especially considering you can get a real bahn mi for like 4 bucks. The atmosphere was nice. They have benches with pillows to sit on, which adds a cute touch. My boyfriend said he also comes here to study here often. The service was great. The woman taking care of us was nice and came to check up on us often. Overall a great place and I will definitely try to visit the next time I’m in DC!

Rude Hostess and lousy pet policy! Took a Sunday morning stroll and passed this coffee place. I read about it before and know that there is a bistro as well. Decided to get a coffee and pastry. I had a dog, tied my dog outside at the patio on the left side of the café’s entrance. I went in to order at the counter. The server thought I wanted take out coffee, I say no, my dog is tied outside and order coffee and croissant. At this point no one said anything. I took my coffee and pastry out, there was a male hostess by the door. He did not say anything when I come in, neither did he was polite enough to help me to hold the door when I took my coffee and pastry out. After I settled down to have my coffee, the male hostess come out and said he wanted to let me know that the patio is only for customer who has brunch and not for customer who has coffee. The coffee area is inside. I said to him why nobody said anything. In any case, I have already settled down, to move me would be unacceptable. He said he does not want to argue he just want to let me know for next time. I am afraid there might not be next time was in my mind. I passed this male hostess a few times, from walking in to order, from bringing out my coffee(which he has no courtesy to hold the door when my hands are full!); and the staff behind the counter had not said anything either. What do I suppose to do with my dog? I cannot leave him tie up outside — what happen if he is dognapped? I felt unwelcome. What do dog owner supposed to do if they want to just have a coffee? So, one cannot use the patio and has to get take out coffee. This policy is discriminatory on dog owner if that is the case. I actually like the latte — it was well made, the balance between coffee and soy milk was right. The croissant is nothing special. I also like the vibe of the place and was planning to try the bistro. Now I will not go to dine in the bistro or buy any coffee from this place.

This is a chill independent coffeeshop located in Shaw. It’s mostly good for espresso-based coffee. The shop has a few great touches that make it more of a special place: 1. For-here cups. They have special Swiss porcelain cups. 2. Mason jars for cold drinks. 3. Bigger food menu that most coffee shops, including both sweet and savory strudel that appears to be homemade. 4. Chill contemporary and old music, a real mix that gives the shop a great feel. 5. The restaurant section is kind of cool, I didn’t eat there but it looked nice. 6. The long benches have neat pillows to sit on. 7. Their espresso is imported from Switzerland, if I understood correctly. I am deducting a star because the espresso was a bit on the bitter side, meaning the barista pulled it too long, it wasn’t ground correctly, or it was stale. I assume that it was the barista’s fault. When I was there, the internet was a bit slow. So if you are really going to town with internet surfing, you might want to consider this. It could have just been that they needed to reset the router. Not a big deal, but something to keep in mind. The internet/wifi is free, of course. The prices were really good. I think I got a discount because it was late in the day and the strudel was made early. I don’t know or care, because it was superb and the latte I got was also pretty solid. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the neighborhood. It’s the best espresso bar around here.

I went to Kafe Bohem with a friend for breakfast /brunch yesterday. Their coffee was delicious — it was definitely the best thing about the place, and the thing that keeps them from receiving one star. Other than that, the music was too loud & annoying, the«gentrification» art show they were featuring on their walls was cloying and pretentious — not to mention sort of awkward, given the nature of this café & neighborhood — and(worst of all) the food was a major disappointment. The worst thing was that my $ 8 «eggs and greens» was a tiny portion of eggs and… SOMEWILTYICEBERGLETTUCE!!! It is both totally unacceptable and honestly pretty dishonest to charge someone $ 8 for eggs and lettuce, when they are expecting actual greens(i.e. kale, collards, even some freaking spinach, etc.). I rarely leave bad reviews on Unilocal, but in all honesty I felt majorly ripped off at Kafe Bohem!

Yay! I came here on a Thursday morning with a friend. We were visiting DC for a few days and staying with my friend’s sister who recommended we come here for breakfast before hopping on a bus to visit the National Cathedral, since the bus stop was close by. We walked in to see a bunch of students typing away on laptops — I definitely don’t miss studying — and found an empty table and put our stuff down. My friend ordered two eggs with whole grain toast and greens while I went for the waffles with strawberries. My friend was in love with her eggs and she made me have a bite of her toast. It was full of different seeds and nuts and it was delicious. My waffle was crisp with fluffy center, the strawberries were fresh and sweet, and the syrup was on point. D also had a hot coffee while I went for iced coffee. The brew was delicious. There’s a ton of zombie-related art on the wall — at least there was while we were there — and random sculptures here and there. My friend D is an artist and works for a gallery and she put it perfectly when she said that anywhere else, that sort of art would be off-putting but in a café, it’s totally harmless and inoffensive and just adds to the charm. If I were a student, I’d love to sit here to study and if I were a working local, I’d definitely come here for breakfast on my way to work, or even lunch during the day. It’s a cute space and the service is quick and friendly.

Maybe its just me but I get a «hipster» vibe from this place which adds to the ambiance. When I went, it was pretty quiet and people seemed hard at work. The coffee was surprising awesome and they serve the 16 oz in a pint glass. The place was kind of full for Tuesday around 11:30am ish but I managed to find a spot. Another pleasant surprise — the food. I had the«Chicken Schnitzel Banh mi – topped with cabbage slaw» which was pretty good! I am not a Banh mi expert so I cannot vouch how it compares to more authentic places. But it was damn good especially if you like German food and the bread was warm and relatively soft. Chill place to hang with friends or get some work done. Good WIFI connection too.

Hip coffee shop with free wifi, serve yourself orange water in mason jars, lots of outlets and plenty of seating. It’s like somebody made the café of my dreams! A few other wins: 1) They serve lattes out of real cups. This is totally a small detail that many people seem to overlook. Everything tastes better when it’s served out of a proper cup. 2) They serve tea by the pot! 3) The lunch menu is eclectic(think chicken schnitzel banh mi) but also appeals to less adventurous palettes. My wild mushroom risotto was the perfect, warm, cheesy, carby meal to fill me up on a winter day. My order came out in less than ten minutes and was ten dollars total. #winning 4) Comfy, mismatched seating and friendly baristas. I’m becoming a regular.

4 stars: 1st star is for the fact that they have WIFI. Not all coffee shops in DC do and it still makes me think it kills their business if they do NOT have wifi. 2nd star is for a good cup of latte. 3rd star is for the more than 10 tables they have to sit at(again, a rarity in DC). 4th star is for the cool location so close to Howard Theater. Well done, Kafe Bohem!

Privet … this place is amaze. My little slice of Shaw heaven. Walk in, and you instantly get that indie-hipster Tryst vibe, sans the douschery. The place is primarily a coffee shop and also happens to serve food prepared in the attached restaurant nextdoor«Bistro Bohem». It’s a pretty snazzy Czech influenced menu and the prices are pretty reasonable here. My one qualm is a large coffee isn’t necessarily a large, its more a medium coffee for $ 3.00. Still tasty nonetheless. Everyone Extra cozy in here and extremely inviting. Don’t be afraid to sit down next to someone, everyone is very chill here. As I live 100 feet away, will definitely come back here regularly. You can easily spend an entire afternoon here kicking it. I haven’t been late night yet, but the times I do walk by on the way home, the place is seriously bumping with some joocy beats.

An enjoyable Euro-Hipster take on coffee and food. The tea and coffee selection is great. Coffee isn’t anything special(disappointing! Europeans usually know how to do strong coffee), but the selection is good and the ingredients seem high quality. The place is pleasant, welcoming, and trendy. Service was good, the bathrooms were clean so no complaints here! Would like to try Bistro Bohem soon!

Great, high quality espresso. The line at 10:30AM today(a Saturday) was nearly out the door. Love the atmosphere, the free cucumber water while you wait, and the several versions of bahn mi on the breakfast menu. Big plus: they have rooibos tea!

The Kafe portion of Bohem, is a small, cozy(central) European-style café(I guess that’s the point, isn’t it?) connected to the main Bistro by a back passage. Austria’s Julius Meinl beans makes for excellent espresso beverages(complete with barista art!) But my favorite part: the newspapers(Post, NYT, Wall Street Journal) on old-school wooden rods for reading with your coffee. In addition to the requisite Vienese/Czech pastries, they also have Interesting lunch options such as chicken schnitzel banh mi.
