JC Lofton Tailors

Wow!!! So friendly and ready to be of service. I needed a button replaced, and I’d tried a few tailors that made my request seem like such a chore. I walked into J.C. Lofton, and I was warmly greeted and offered a bottle of water. The owner helped me find a button, quickly sewed it on, and I was on my way.
This family owned and operated business will certainly be at the top of my list should I ever move to DC, and I highly recommend them!

I would definitely recommend them. I had three pairs of work pants altered here, and I have no complaints about the speed or the quality of work. They also replaced the zipper on my bookbag for free — it took less than 5 minutes.
The only thing I don’t like about this place is that it’s physically impossible for the curtains on the changing rooms to close all the way. There’s a gap on the side. And the store is super small and cramped, so when you’re changing you’re awkwardly hiding behind the curtain, hoping that the customer standing right between the counter and the changing rooms doesn’t suddenly turn around and see you in a half-​dressed state. But I guess if you’re into that kinda stuff then it’s cool?

This place is really great! I brought two pairs of jeans that needed repair — one a new zipper and the other some stitching on a tear. The owner was incredibly polite as well as the rest of his team. There was a bit of a crowd in the small space since it was after work, but they offered me a seat and water while I waited. The price was reasonable ($ 30 total) and the work took about 5 days to complete. I will be coming here again in the future for all of my sewing/​tailoring needs!

I went to JC Lofton based on reviews I saw on Unilocal and they were great. I needed a bridesmaid dress fixed in less than a week before I left town for the wedding. I needed the shoulder straps fixed and a hem. Not only did I have the dress back on time, it fit perfectly!

I can’t believe all the great reviews of JC Lofton Tailors. Although I might trust these jokers to repair a liner or sew a button, if you give them a suit for tailoring you’re opening yourself up to having to throw the suit away.
On a trip to their shop with two winter coats in need of button repair, I also took a new suit that I’d bought at a Macy’s season-​ending clearance (i.e., no free tailoring). The coats came back fine – buttons repaired, a new button added where one didn’t formerly exist. But the suit? It was a mess.
I have no idea who does the actually sewing in their shop, but that person should be fired. The suit’s pants, that just needed to be taken up about ¾ of an inch, came back with visible angles! Likewise the coat’s sleeves… fabric ends sewn at angles. Who does that without asking?! Pants should have a break at the foot or, if the tailor is very good, a slight… as in almost invisible… angle. In this case the angle on the pants legs was so pronounced it screwed up the front crease.
So, in frustration, I took the suit back to the shop and insisted they correct this shoddy bit of tailoring. They agreed and told me it would be ready in a week. That week passes… no call. Another week passes… nothing. Finally I call and ask if my suit is ready and am told that it is. But when return to pick the suit up I find, to my dismay, that JC Lofton appears to have done… well…nothing. The angles in the pants… still there – perhaps ever so slightly less pronounced. The angles at the sleeve ends… still there. And as an added bonus the jacket that fit perfectly in the store is now too tight. Almost as if the back seam had been taken in. (I only discovered this later.)
Aghast, I point out these issues to the two ladies at the counter, and they say… nothing…no explanation, no compensation, no offer of a refund… not even of the tailoring charges. I leave with the ruined suit.

I have gotten three bridesmaid’s dresses (yes, three, loll) and multiple other garments done at JC Lofton Tailors. Not only are they professional and friendly, but the service is quick and always exceeds my expectations! I highly recommend this shop!

This is the best tailor in town. Eddie can do anything from jeans, to shirts, to suits. Very reasonable prices as well. And generally very quick to complete the work.

Eddie and team are 5 star. On a busy weekend he took care of everything and with excellent skill. Can’t recommend his tailoring shop enough!

I’ll admit it, I’m typically a off the rack suit shopper. I have a build that must be similar to whatever they have in mind when they create certain size items, and I get away with a lot that makes me look pretty good. But I recently acquired a new tuxedo. Something that off a rack or in my case imported shipping alone, won’t cut it. So I sought out a tailor and all the reviews online and talking to friends/​coworkers led me here. Best decision ever.
Quietly tucked on U St, across from the Shaw/​Howard metro (green/​yellow), and next door to the soul food restaurant Oohs & Aahs, I never noticed it before. Parking is street parking, which during the weekday business hours isn’t too tough to find. The shop is upstairs above a shoe repair store. The store is tiny, but efficient. The person in the front answering the phones and initial inquiries was very friendly. All of the tailors are masters of fabric. After putting the tux on, within 30 seconds of pinning they had it feeling better than anything I had ever put on my body. I took it in on Tuesday, even though I needed it that Saturday. I know, last minute. They charged a reasonable rush fee and said it would be done Sat am. Fri am I get a call telling me they’re finished. Amazing. Everything was done accurately and fit perfectly. I’m a fan of this place.

I went for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I dropped off a pair of slacks and a blazer — I wanted them tapered and sleeves shortened, respectively. It seems like they’re often slammed, and I didn’t need them in a hurry, so we decided I’d come back in two weeks to pick them up after a quick fitting and pinning. Fast forward two weeks and my blazer and slacks were perfect. The pants especially fit me like a glove and are exactly the fit I was going for. I know where I’ll be going for all my tailoring needs from now on!

I wish I could give JC Lofton Tailors six stars. I brought in some pants that I needed shortened; Mr. Lofton did the alterations for me on the spot! Everyone in the shop is so attentive and friendly. I have suit pants that I can now get let in (yay); I’m definitely giving my business to JC Lofton Tailors. Thank you so much! Excellent job!

Went into the shop today for the first time to have the seam of my shorts that had come undone fixed. The owner fixed it on the spot for me– free of charge! I asked, «are you sure?» and he insisted. Then he introduced himself and shook my hand. Talk about customer service! I was floored. Will definitely be going back with all my other clothes from now on!

I took a suit to JC Lofton «Tailors» and simply wanted the jacket fitted and the pants hemmed. The jacket came back fine. The pants however… one pants leg was longer than than the other. So I asked to have the shorter pants leg lengthened so it matched the longer pants leg which was the correct length). I came back an hour later and picked up the suit. I wasn’t given a chance to try the suit on and so when I got home I tried it on. The correct length pants leg had been shortened. So while both pants legs are now the same length — the pants are too short! Since I paid $ 106 dollars for the alternations (pants hemmed, suit sleeves shortened, jacket fitted), I feel like the work should have been done properly and not require two extra trips to this unfortunate shipwreck.

JC Lofton is a true hidden gem in the U Street corridor. It’s tucked up in the second floor of a barbershop, and it has a very genuine small business vibe. It’s authentic, the quality of service is fantastic, and the tailoring is skilled. Without a doubt, I’d recommend it to anyone who needs a professional tailoring service here in DC.
My experience there:
I went to JC Lofton in order to have an Indochino suit altered. I was preparing for a wedding, and bought the suit for the wedding party. While I was impressed by the quality, the fit just wasn’t right. Enter JC Lofton. After being measured and telling them what I wanted, they made a series of suggestions, and even offered to even out my pant cuffs for free!
Two weeks later, I picked up the suit and found it to fit perfectly. It had gone from a boxy cut to a very svelte European style cut. When I went to pick up the suit, I brought along another pair of pants whose cuff had come undone. The owner fixed it for me — again, for free!
Consider me impressed.

I’ve been going here for years. I love the professionalism, and the quick turnaround, and the overall product. They do a good job, and the cost is reasonable. I’m going back this weekend to get some jeans hemmed.

I went to Lofton’s for some repairs I needed to a pair of (men’s) suit pants. The staff was courteous, the job was ready on time, and the cost was quite reasonable. I would certainly patronize the place again.

Let’s just say I was in panic mode. I had finally found a dress for a black tie wedding but it was slightly too big. I found JC Lofton tailor on Unilocal and thought I’d give it a shot. I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and told them I needed it by Thursday. A woman pinned the adjustments on my dress, and informed me that it was a relatively easy adjustment to make and that they should be able to do it before Thursday. Still a bit worried about it, I left the shop to run more errands. About 20 minutes later, they gave me a call: the woman who pinned the dress had finished the adjustments right after I left! I was ecstatic! I raced back to the store, tried it on, and it was a perfect fit.

I needed the train removed from a formal gown so I wouldn’t trip while dancing at a Mardi Gras ball, so I took it to JC Lofton’s to have it hemmed. Eddie is very knowledgeable about alterations, so even though it cost quite a bit just to hem the bottom of the dress (there was a lot of material to deal with), I ended up with a dress that you would never know had been touched by a tailor. The only negatives were the price (~$ 65 to remove the train and redo the bottom hem) and the time it took to complete the alterations (the dress had already been with them for about a month when I came to pick it up at the specified time, so I stayed and waited for them to finish it). I will definitely go back if I ever have something that needs tailored — they know what they are doing and I would definitely trust them with special items — but make sure you’re prepared for the cost and that you budget in some extra time in case it’s not quite ready when you pick it up.

I was impressed with the craftsmanship and service that I received at this establishment. I stumbled upon this tailor during a causal stroll down U Street. Earlier in the day, a button popped off of my newly purchased 1950’s vintage coat, and I was devastated. I walked into this establishment to get a quote on the service, in which the tailor informed me that it would be 5.00; which is pretty reasonable. When asked if he had an opening, or the time to repair my coat, he stated «I can squeeze you in». He completed the service in a mere eight minutes. I was really fortunate to stumble upon this business, and have quick and impressive service. I will be recommending this tailor to all of my friends, and visiting soon for alterations!

This place is amazing… They have done multiple pairs of jeans for me… one pair of which needed extensive work done on the seat and waist. Everything came out wonderful! They are so professional and so friendly. I just dropped off a skirt today and can’t WAIT to get it back because I know it will be 100% perfect. Bring your stuff here. You won’t regret it.
