I had Mike come out on New Year’s Eve morning to do some work around my house, including installing two vanity lights, a flush mount light and a showerhead. He was on time, professional and just a great guy. He responded promptly to my email, and gave a reasonable quote. We encountered some problems (with the way the original lights were installed) that required him to do drywall, and some other fixes. It didn’t faze him; he’s a true professional. I highly recommend him. It’s particularly great that he was willing to do work in downtown Washington, which often can be difficult.

Avoid!
I reached out to Mike over 2 months ago for help installing a replacement interior door. He answered promptly, provided a fair estimate, and stopped by later that week to take measurements.
And then it all went south. I reached out to him two or three times to schedule a follow-​up (for the actual installation once the replacement came), and he confirmed that he’d connected with the wholesalers and would be good to go next week. And then nothing. I reached out to him several times over a 2 week period… but nothing. I continued checking in, and finally received a response that he’d be on vacation and could do it in a week or so. I continued reaching out over and over and over and then I gave up.
With the time I spent trying to chase him down, I could have picked up and installed the door myself. Unprofessional… I’d avoid.

Canceled 10:00 am appointment at 5:30pm same day — 7.5 hours after scheduled time. I stayed home from work in morning to be there — unacceptable

Just to update, Mike’s been over several times now to fix my bathtub faucet, cabinet doors, and several other funky creaky things in my house. Every time, he works his magic, and what seemed impossible to get done is finally fixed. I agree that sometimes he is slow to communicate, but he’s not a company, he’s a 1-​man band and he can’t answer right away when he’s busy working. I’m happy that he doesn’t drop his tools in the middle of a job at my house so that he can return other people’s calls about their jobs, and I think you would be, too.

I work for a Major Moving Company. We delivered our customer into Washington DC on a Sunday. Unfortunately, while in transit, our customer’s 2 drawer filing cabinet became jammed and locked some very important papers that were needed by the end of the day on Monday. With such short notice, we were not able to find one of our moving agencies that would be able to make it out that same day. I went on Unilocal and saw that Mike had Five 5 star reviews from what seemed to be reliable reviewers, and I can see why. Not only was Mike able to make it out to our customer same day, he did so in a professional manner and at a very reasonable price. My customer was raving about him after he left. Mike helped us out of a sticky situation, and for that, we thank him. Definitely Recommend!

Excellent! I called Mike after experiencing problems with other contractors (and wrote a very bad Unilocal review for one). He was punctual, e-​mailed me my estimate after midnight because he knew I wanted to start soon, super nice, and of course, did excellent work. He performed a number of miscellaneous tasks (light fixtures, faucets, shower heads, caulking, etc.) I have already requested a second estimate for another project. He will definitely be my go-​to handyman!

I talked to a bunch of plumbers in the area for a simple job to replace a garbage disposal and was getting quotes ranging from $ 375 to $ 450. I called Mike, and he offered to do it for $ 210. He came on time and knew what he was doing and was courteous and easygoing. I would definitely recommend him.
