I had a brief but wonderful experience with this law firm. I found out about them when searching for information on the Internet about illegal basement apartments in DC. I had just moved from one that I had found out about and agreed to rent when I was back in California, but then moved from once I arrived and realized how unsafe it was and how misleading the landlady had been about the place. I only stayed at the place for a few days because I was lucky to find another so quickly.
I was originally thinking I had lost my security deposit, but on a whim I contacted the firm to see if they could help me get it back. I didn’t think it was right that the landlady obtained the deposit from me by lying to me about the legality of the apartment (she had said it was licensed to be rented out and it really wasn’t, and probably couldn’t be because of the unsafe nature of the place). The attorney who helped me, Mark Griffin, agreed and wrote them a demand letter. Within a few days, his office received a check written out to me returning the full amount of the security deposit. The whole thing took less than a week and saved me the hassle of taking the case to a small claims court.
More importantly, Mark was understanding of my financial situation as a student and did not charge me an arm and a leg for his services; the fee was very reasonable and was a small cut of the money I got back. I am very happy with the legal services here and highly recommend them to anyone.
