Green Choice Carpet Cleaning

I wish I could give 0 stars. This «company» (if you can call it that) is completely unprofessional, disorganized and absolutely useless. I was hung up on by one technician. Another one showed up 2 hours late and then blamed me, which made no sense. He was rude to me for the next few minutes while we tried to discuss what needed to be cleaned. I had to finally ask him to just leave as it was clearly a waste of my time and they were just going to mark up the job and not honor the price I was quoted.

This guy is a jerk! I came here to write a review & found that everyone agrees. DO NOT USE!!!

I could tell the technician was trying to hustle me from the get-​go, telling me I had a really nice, expensive rug when I knew it was a cheap hand-​me-​down. He claimed these kinds of carpets were only made in India, hand-​woven, and I replied that the tag said it was machine-​made in Belgium. «Ooooh, it’s even nicer than I thought!» Alright, sir, I’m not stupid. I wanted to turn him down right there, just for being so slimy with his business. But I’d talked him down to a great price. He took my rug, then I went inside and looked at Unilocal.YIKES! 24 1-​star reviews! I called the company immediately, asking for my rug to be returned. They said it would be $ 50 for him to turn around and return it. The website nor the paper we signed said anything about that, so we notified our credit company and they are ready to deny the charge if the company tries to post it. The carpet cleaners said they’d bring the rug back in the morning. The morning passed, so I contacted them and was told the technician called in sick and that they had rescheduled drop-​off for 2 – 5. I told him that some notice would’ve been nice, considering that’s how legitimate businesses operate. He hung up on me. Luckily I work from home, so the reschedule is not a disaster, but at this point I am not counting on that time window being honored either…
UPDATE: Had to actually call the police to get our rug back. When they arrived, guy faked a limp and said we assaulted him. Charge was dropped by the end of the conversation with officials. I’m embarrassed to have done business with such an absolute SCAM.

They do not do their own work – they subcontract out. I scheduled to make an appointment for 6pm. The tech called at 3pm at my office to find out if he could come earlier because he had a cancellation. I said of course not! I work, and am not home which is why I scheduled an appointment for the evening. OBVIOUSLY! He then did not show at 6pm and when I called to sort it out, all they could say is that they are subcontractors, traffic was bad and they had a lot of appointments. He offered me a paltry 10% off. forget it. Anyone who does business like that in this town, should be put out of business.

Total bait and switch. The salesperson I initially talked to was wonderful. Then I had the free consultation and felt bullied into accepting a ridiculously high rate (even after I talked him down). The technician was fast-​talking and on his phone the whole time making me feel rushed to decide. He took the brand new wine-​stained rug away and after several scheduling issues on the company’s part, returned it to me later than promised with the same stains. It now sheds every day in the places they treated it and is ruined. I called to complain and was not offered anything as compensation. Never again– I should have checked Unilocal first.

I contracted with the company through their Washington DC office to clean the upholstery on my couch. It was not returned when promised and when the delivery person brought it back two days later he asked my husband for a check made payable to him, because he told my husband the company did not accept credit cards (not true according to their website). Not knowing the history, my husband gave him a check. When my husband mentioned it to me the next morning I was shocked and called Curtis on his cell phone. He told me he asked for the check because he was only pais at the end of the month and needed the money to buy Christmas gifts for his kids. I asked him how the company would know I had paid for the cleaning and he replied «they will». I asked for the Owner’s name and he told me Jason. I then called the phone number listed on their website in Maryland and spoke to someone named Caylee. She told me it was not the practice of the company to ask for direct payment to delivery drivers and the company would not have known I had paid in full. I asked for the Owner’s name and was told Mike. I had to stop payment on the check and close my checking account because I sensed fraud. When I finally spoke to the Owner Mike he was very defensive and quickly became angry, yelling and cursing. I responded in kind and he then threatened me. After telling Curtis and Mike that I had put a stop payment on the check given to Curtis I received a call from my bank a couple of hours later that Curtis was attempting to cash it. Since I work a few blocks from the address listed on their website I walked over at lunch and found no address exists. Please stay away from this company and the delivery person attempted to steal my money and the Owner threatened me because I told him I would contact Angie’s List, Consumer Protection Agency, etc

I want to warn anyone who might be thinking of using Green Choice company DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. There are sooo many other companies who do the same work.
I am shocked this company is in business b/​c of two horrifying realities:
#1 Green Choice is as poorly a run as any business I have ever come in contact with.
#2 Green Choice could not possibly care less about their clients.
I had a similar experience as the other Unilocal reviews.
A) They will not necessarily honor what you were quoted
B) The way they coordinate with the technicians is a disaster.
I was quoted one price for a carpet cleaning (an in person estimate mind you with e-​mail invoice confirmation), and received a second price when the technician showed up. When a second technician didn’t show up for a separate HVAC cleaning no one called me, not even the next day. It’s as if my appointment never existed (and I confirmed with them 4 times that week!) This company is so mis-​managed they didn’t know the work had failed to be completed.
Green Choice contracts out their projects — so the technicians who show up to your house don’t actually work for the company and have no idea what’s going on; they don’t know your name, your number or address, the price you were quoted, how many rooms they are doing, what treatment you’ve requested. It’s an absolute mess. Also, there is no one in charge– the owner is M.I.A., middle management is not empowered to do anything and the communication between who you speak with to set up your appointment, the dispatch that sends someone out and the technician who arrives is absolutely non-​existent.
There is no way under any circumstances you should ever use this company.

I made an appointment with this company yesterday. I live in Maryland, between Ft. Meade and Baltimore. I was told yesterday that the company does service my area and a representative would arrive between 1 and 3 p.m. today. I completely rearranged my plans for my Saturday to ensure I would be home between 1 and 3 p.m. At 1:45 p.m., I receive a phone call from Lisa (who would not provide her last name), who told me that she was sorry, but the company does not service my area.
Now, here are my two issues:
One, I live between Ft. Meade and Baltimore. The website says the company services Baltimore and there is a review on the main page of the website from someone who lives in Ft. Meade. So how does the company not service my area?
Two, if this is true and someone made a mistake, it is the COMPANY’S mistake, not mine. When you run a business, you need to know how to deal with mistakes. If you tell a client you will be at their house between 1 and 3 p.m., you need to be there. This is a mobile service, there is no reason that they should not have completed their appointment today.
When I asked to speak with a manager, I was told there were no managers available on the weekend. I have a feeling that «Lisa» was not being honest with me about this statement.
I will NEVER attempt to use this company again, nor will I recommend this company to anyone. In fact, I plan on telling this story to anyone who will listen so maybe this company will either change their practices, or go out of business.

If 0 stars were an option, I would have used it.
Gave my girlfriend a «rough» quote over the phone of a «couple hundred» dollars. Guy showed up for weekday appointment, looked at my rug with an 8 inch by 8 inch coffee stain, pulled out his phone to do some math, and offered a quote of around $ 600.
I said no way. Was totally shocked. Finally, after much (painful) negotiating, agreed on $ 400 — still more than double what we were expecting. Was promised 5 – 7 days.
2 weeks later, no rug. My girlfriend called to ask, said they would deliver it back the following Monday between 8 and 10am. At about 9:45, I got a call to arrange delivery on Wednesday (?!?) I agreed to stay home from work again, and the rug was finally delivered — a full 3 weeks after it was picked up. Offered a $ 50 discount for taking 2 weeks longer than promised.
Delivery guy laid out the rug and rushed out the door, after which I discovered a big crease in the middle of the rug like it had been dried over a clothesline. 2 weeks later, there is still a big «ridge» right now the middle, no amount of flattening seems to have solved the problem. Not to mention, not much seems to be done about the stain that we paid to have removed in the first place. Called the company, they said something about maybe «stretching» it, and send someone out to take a look. Technician spent about 30 seconds in the house, called back to the office, and said nothing they could do about it. Offered another $ 50 discount for ruining my rug, and noted that I signed a waiver that they could not be held liable.
To review: Aggressive sales staff who will rip you off with a crazy high price? Check. Delivery more than two weeks late? Check. Stain not removed? Check. Rug ruined by giant ridge down the middle? Check.
Strongly recommend not using this company, whatever you do.

Unbelievably incompetent, dishonest service. I’m writing about their Maryland branch. They took my rugs, quoted me a price, and then the next day told me they wouldn’t clean them because they were too small! I then had literally dozens of phone calls trying to get them back, figure out what happened, etc., and dealt with one complete idiot after another. I’m filing with the Better Business Bureau – these dishonest fools need to be taken out of business.

horrible! I called this company because I needed a same day carpet cleaning and wanted environmentally safe /​child safe products. The guy comes in and gives me his run around about needing the biggest cleaning job available for my carpets… my carpets are not THAT dirty so I figured he was just trying to up-​sell me. Then he ‘measures’ my rooms with his feet and I’m counting his steps as he’s ‘measuring’ and he adds on 2 feet to each length… uh, no thanks! I asked him if he wanted to just use my tape measure to get an accurate sq ft measurement, and he laughed at me. So he tells me that my carpet is easily 700 sq feet which is a total over approximation since my entire FIRST floor is about 700 sq feet. and the area that’s carpeted is 3 rooms. Then he says it will be $ 90 PER ROOM to clean it. I told him I expected to pay about $ 90 for the entire cleaning since that’s what their website SAYS! He goes, «Let me go to my car and call my manager and see what sort of deal I can offer you, I’ll be right back» He got into his car, sat in my driveway for 2 minutes and then DROVE AWAY! Never even came back! NICE!

Exact same horrible experience as the other review. Wish I had seen that before I scheduled an early appointment this Saturday morning, complete waste of time. The guy didn’t even take measurements or anything, just pulled out his phone and did some ridiculous calculation and quoted me a price as if I’d just pay him whatever he wanted. When I asked him to take measurements he laughed! Total clown operation here, be warned…

Do NOT call these people. I called because they had a nice website and the person I talked to was very nice. I asked for an over the phone estimate to clean an area rug that has pet stains/​odor. She said the technician had to come out to give an estimate but the estimate was free and no commitment. The tech that showed up was rude, gave me the run around on if he could take care of the odor, and then when I asked him to leave because I didn’t trust him — he wouldn’t leave! Thank goodness my husband was there too because not only was the guy rude, he made me uncomfortable in my own home!
