You want a way to test our friendship? Put me in your bridal party. The modern wedding-​industrial complex has taken the idea of a wedding from a simple process of recording a legal transaction to a pompous parade of craziness where each couple can have their own personal Oscar night while forcing their friends and family to adjust their lives and budget for a year to focus on this one day, while pretending the divorce rate isn’t 50%. When my friend asked me to be a bridesmaid, she swore she would pick out the most awesome dress that I would want to wear everyday for the rest of my life. Brides, don’t do this. It’s dishonest, even if you literally have the best taste in the world, wedding hormones will force you to pick out the ugliest piece of garbage possible. I knew this, which is why I said «I don’t care what you make me wear, just don’t make it too expensive.» Of course, that isn’t what happened and six months later I was staring at a $ 250 price tag for the ugliest dress I had ever laid my eyes on. It seems that from the stressful nature of having to sell my firstborn child to a tiny unnamed imp-​like man who kept showing up in my attic in order to pay for all the wedding expenses, I gained some weight since the initial dress fitting. The dress wouldn’t fit, as if to mock me for having to wear it in the first place, and the bride told me to get it fixed or not be in the wedding party. I was ready to call her bluff when a Unilocal search led me here.
In case it hasn’t been clear yet: Hell is other people getting married. Green and Blue were literally the only part of this process that didn’t make me want to cry, or punch the wall, or throw fragile objects against the floor. My experience with them was a small island of salvation in a sea of minor annoyances and major eye roll induced headaches. In the end, there wasn’t much they could do to help the dress, and I am still debating whether or not I want to try to sell it at a secondhand store or burn it in a therapeutic trashcan fire after the wedding, but when I picked it up it fit and that was all I cared about. The price was reasonable, I’m sure some places would do it cheaper, but it was worth the assurance that it would be done right.
I know a lot of brides will be reading this. I’m sure this is a great place for that super unique wedding dress that I definitely have seen a million times before fitted. Unlike yours truly, the women who work here are sweet and professional and have a very calming demeanor. Seriously though, if you’re going to make everyone wear the same shit, you should be paying for it. Green and Blue doesn’t deserve my bridesmaid rant, but it does deserve 5 stars.

I had my wedding dress tailored at Green and Blue due to good reviews and extreme convenience. Everyone I worked with was great, and they even rushed to take in the bust a little further after concerns that it was too loose on top. The dress had a number of details and they were dealt with care. The bustle they created is also gorgeous.
It is, however, pricey. They do great work but if you have a tighter budget it may not be the best option (despite a serious derth of alternatives in the city). They are also not the quickest with regard to turnaround, so plan ahead. Overall, though, the results were very nice and I would absolutely trust them with my more delicate alternations.

I can’t comment on the quality of their alterations, because I did not end up getting my dress altered here, but I can say that the price that they quoted me for what were fairly straightforward alterations was astronomically high. They are pretty much the only wedding dress alterations place in downtown DC, so I guess you pay for the convenience, but I know for a fact that several very well-​reviewed alterations shops in the MD and VA area do alterations for hundreds of dollars less.

Daniela and her team at Green and Blue Studio did an amazing job with my wedding dress. I ordered a dress from the dress shop that went bankrupt in Alexandria. It happened just three months before my wedding day. But I was very lucky to purchase my dream dress directly from the designer. We only had 10 days to have the time to alter it, so once I ordered the dress, I started to look for an alteration place and ask around if they could get my dress altered in 10 days.
When I called Green and Blue Studio they said they can do it in a rush. At this point, I still didn’t know if the dress would fit me and they didn’t know what kind of dress I got. I went to Green and Blue Studio and met Daniela on the next day I got the dress. She is very professional and a very sweet person. She told me they would get the alterations done in only one week, then we would have the time to fix little things if it needed and I didn’t have to worry about it right before the wedding. The dress was my dream dress and I couldn’t think of getting any other dress. They saved my wedding, I can’t thank them enough!
It cost double because of the rush fee, but I think the normal price there is very fair. I highly recommend Green and Blue Studio for your dress! Thank you so much Daniela!

Green and Blue did an amazing job with my wedding dress! My dress was about 2 feet too long and had to be taken in from the waist because of the delicate lace around the bottom. It ended up taking longer than expected, but they did a great job getting the dress to fit properly and were very accommodating when scheduling weekend appointments.

I had a great experience using Green and Blue Studio for wedding dress alterations. The team had great eye for changes that needed to be made to my dress, they were very patient with all the alterations I requested, and really knew their stuff — ex. creating a bustle with very delicate lace fabric, and how to sew hidden ties and buttons that were so skillfully done that it took my bridesmaid and photographer more than 5 minutes to locate the hidden details! The location was great, being centrally positioned downtown and I was even able to do dress fittings on my lunch break at work. The alterations were pricey, but I am not certain that I would have gotten a better «deal» anywhere else, especially given how good the dress looked in the end. I’d highly recommend for any busy bride who doesn’t have time to shop around for alterations and wants solid, skillful work.

If you need your wedding dress tailored you should absolutely go to Green and Blue Studio! If you want a tailor that has great attention to detail, is customer service oriented, reliable and does quality work then you should go with Green and Blue Studio.
I am so happy that I chose them as they did a fantastic job! Wedding planning can be stressful and it was a relief not to have to worry about my dress because I knew that it was in good hands. All of the staff at Green and Blue are professional and responsive. I had no problems making appointments, they would fit me in when it worked with my schedule. And the work that they did on the dress was high quality and impressive! I needed my dress brought in a fair amount, the train shortened a lot and work done to slim the cap sleeves. I also had them attach a sash, which was not straight forward since the back of my dress had a very deep V shape so they had to angle it. All in all, the team did a fantastic job!

I wasn’t sure where to go to add a bustle to my wedding dress, but Green and Blue Studio had fantastic reviews, so I made an appointment with them. I’m so glad I did! From the first very efficient appointment where I tried on my dress and she pinned it to the next one where I returned to try it on an understand how to pin the bustle up, it was a genuine pleasure in every interaction with the studio. The cost was about $ 100 for four different bustle points, and I waited for five minutes at the end so she could find matching fabric to sew on the bustle points to hide the clips. In the end, I am SO pleased with the way the bustle turned out, and the fabric hiding the clips matches perfectly. Don’t waste your time going to other places — this is where you need to go for any type of wedding alterations. I’ll be back for my wedding dress preservation!

I struggle with this review because the end result was fine but there were some issues during my service which didn’t make the experience amazing.
My original dress was purchased from a boutique that went bankrupt in Old Town, Alexandria, leaving me dress-​less 10 weeks away from my wedding. I was lucky enough to find the same dress in a sample size, however, the dress was too big and needed work.
At my initial consultation and fitting, I worked with the owner who listened to my concerns and wishes for the new dress. Because the dress was a sample, the zipper wasn’t in great shape and I asked if they could remove the zipper and replace it with a corset back. I do not believe this is a request they get often because they seemed unsure about it and ended up charging me almost double for the work. I ended up paying about $ 700 for alterations on the dress which to me is crazy, but given my circumstance I was willing to pay to get it done asap. Looking back on it I wish I would have gotten another opinion. The original boutique would have done all the alterations, including changing out the zipper for about $ 300. Sadly they took my money and never ordered my dress, but that’s another Unilocal review.
When scheduling my second fitting they asked for six weeks because of the amount of work it would take build a corset. I agreed, believing when I walked back in the dress would be mostly done and ready to go.
Unfortunately during my second visit I met with what must have been a new staff member, because she had no idea what was being done with my dress and she fumbled through the fitting. When I put the dress on no real work had been completed. The only thing they had done in six weeks was put in temporary stitching on the bottom and temporarily sewed the back of the dress into the shape it would need to be cut into for the corset. Essentially they sat on my dress for six weeks. They claim they wanted to make sure I was 100% certain about the corset before cutting the dress (which I had confirmed multiple times during the initial visit). I can appreciate their caution, however, I would have been more than happy to come in earlier for a second fitting if this is really what they were waiting on.
After the second fitting they wanted to schedule a fitting a month in advance, putting my dress completion just days before my wedding. As the dress was a sample, I needed to have it cleaned before the ceremony and the dry cleaner requested a week. I just didn’t have that amount of time. Thankfully they were able to get the work done in a shorter amount of time but I could tell this was a strain on their schedule.
I felt like they missed small details. I asked multiple times for buttons to be removed and a few beads to be replaced but they were more focused on the big picture and it wasn’t until the very end these details got attention. I did notice after leaving there are still beads that should have been replaced that were not attended to. I am also disappointed that the corset string they gave me was just looping string and not a nice matching satin one. I will have to find something better before my wedding.
Overall I picked this location because of the great reviews and the proximity to my office. Do not get my wrong they did a great job on my dress but it was a bit of a process to get there. I was also extremely expensive. Looking back I should have probably gotten a second opinion, however, given the struggle I’ve already had with my dress this made the most sense at the time.

Green and Blue Studio did a wonderful job with my dress which had to be taken in quite substantially. Although it did take four visits to get the dress fitted properly, these were all included, as the studio was committed to getting the fit right. Also, the fittings were planned early to give me extra time to allow for all the alterations.
The service was consistently friendly, attentive, and helpful. It was expensive to have my dress taken in, but frankly, it was worth it. The price was also within the range that is generally charged for these types of alterations.

I had an appointment for alterations to a bridesmaid dress. The dress I ordered was at least three sizes too big and virtually unwearable. Twenty minutes later, the seamstress had turned it into a great little dress. I’m so excited to wear it now! What I liked most about Green and Blue was their efficiency – I arrived early for my appointment, and they were able to take me early. Everyone is friendly and professional.
The payment process seemed pretty standard, but I do wish they had informed me of the prices of some of the standard alterations ahead of time. If I’d known the price of shortening the dress, for example, I may not have opted to do that. Nevertheless, I trust that the dress in capable hands and I would absolutely return for future weddings.

Went to Green and Blue Studio for my wedding dress alterations. They were absolutely fantastic! Obviously experienced and knowledgable and put in the time and effort to make sure that your dress fits exactly the way that you want it.
My fittings (2+ final fitting) were spaced out over ~2 months but I have heard of them doing alterations much faster. I was very, very impressed with their work. They were a pleasure to work with, I was horribly late to my first appointment because of weekend Metro work and they were very accommodating.
The only reason for four stars instead of five is the price. Even though the work is great, I think you could find similar work for a lower price elsewhere. For train removal, taking in the waist, letting out the bust, and shortening the gown it cost ~$ 450.

I had green and blue alter my wedding gown and I will say that I was satisfied with the end result. However, I experienced a few hiccups along the way that I would warn people about.
First of all, every time I got there for an appointment (and I had 3), I had to wait at least 20 minutes. It was always packed. I guess they are very popular, but at $ 400+ for wedding gown alteration, I would have liked them to plan out the appointments a little more precisely.
At my first appointment I told the tailor that I needed 3 things done. First, I wanted the dress hemmed. Second, I wanted them to sew on some buttons (which I mailed to them after my first appointment), down the back of the gown. Third, I wanted them to fix some puckering that was happening on one side of the neckline. The tailor seemed to understand all my requests. However, when I showed up for my second appointment, the puckering in the gown was still there. I pointed it out and the tailor said something about the elastic causing it and it couldn’t be fixed. It looked horrible so I pointed out that the other side of the neckline was fine and I just wanted them to fix it so that both sides matched. She seemed to understand this and said okay. But when I went to pick up my dress at the third appointment, the puckering was still there! I was pretty upset at this point and one of the other women came in to help us and she suggested just taking out the elastic. They did that really quickly in the back and the puckering was gone. I was a little put off that they tried to have me take the dress home with the puckering still there when I was so clear that I wanted that fixed.
Also, I had to deal with them saying that the buttons I mailed to them never arrived. I went through this monumental effort to get new buttons from the manufacturer in time (the wedding date was quickly approaching and the buttons in that particular fabric were back ordered) and I dropped the new set off in person. But when I went to pick up my dress at my last appointment I noticed that the original buttons I had mailed were sitting at the bottom of the dress bag! That was quite annoying…
However, I will reiterate that I was satisfied with my gown when I took it home so at the end of the day I would trust them with alterations.

The best customer service I’ve had in a long time. They worked with me every step of the way to turn my wedding gown into a beautiful cocktail dress, I wish I had worked with them to purchase my original wedding gown. The attention to detail and patience with appointment scheduling is something I wish more companies had.
I would highly recommend them to anyone for any dress services you need. They were more than fair and so easy to work with on everything. I will absolutely be back for more alterations in the future.

Beautiful studio in such a convenient location! Daniela was very flexible on timing. I had an initial appointment in February 2014 and two additional fittings over the next few months (my wedding was in June, so I left plenty of time in case).
They made the necessary alterations to bustle my dress and also tailored the bust area of my dress, which had boning. The price was on the high side of what I expected (there is a minimum charge on wedding dress alterations), but the convenience and quality was worth it. As a bonus, they even packed my dress to keep it in form during travel, since I needed to travel outside the state for my wedding. Thank you!

I had a designer wool coat that arrived damaged and needed to be repaired, as well as altered in the sleeves. Daniela was amazing, quoted me a very reasonable price (as well as a discount on the rush fee since I needed it in less than a week), and had my coat ready on time. They did a great job with the alterations, and I would definitely go back!

Due to a family medical emergency, we pushed up our wedding and ended up having a week and a half to have my wedding dress altered. The ladies of Green and Blue ensured me that everything would be done on time and that it would be done exactly to my liking. Not only was their service a huge relief and confidence booster during a very very stressful time, but the dress fit absolutely perfectly. I ended up taking another dress to them with a much simpler job (replacing and extending a lining) and they were just as professional and accommodating. THANK YOU!!!

I took my wedding dress into the studio in mid-​June thinking I only needed the length hemmed. That’s when I was introduced to what a properly fitting dress should really look like and left loving my dress even more than when I first bought it. I couldn’t wait for it to be finished (which btw — give yourself plenty of time, ladies — this studio is busy for a reason). I went back a few times for fittings and picked up my dress in August a few days before my wedding. Actually, I asked them to hold it until the weekend and when I went to pick it up, they kindly brought it down to my car, holding an umbrella over it the entire time to protect it from the rain.
Like other reviewers said, everyone here is super friendly, very accommodating, and as sweet as can be. I could tell they really wanted to me to look my best. I had my rehearsal dinner dress altered here too which turned out flawless as well.
In short, Daniela and Michaela are top notch professionals with unmatched skill. I really can’t say enough about how well-​fitted my dress was. I loved wearing it all day for the wedding and was super sad to take it off at the end of the day. Anyway, looking back on everything, I know that choosing this studio for alterations was hands down the best choice I made throughout the entire wedding planning process. I highly highly recommend them.

I could not be happier with the service and quality I received here. I had bought two separate pieces for my wedding dress — a lace top and a long tulle skirt, and there was a gap because the skirt would move around. I put off going to a seamstress, and then before I knew it, it was two weeks before my wedding. Aack! I went into Green & Blue and the two women were extremely nice. They didn’t make me feel bad or stupid, and were very helpful and sweet. Daniela (I think?) added loops to the skirt, attached the two pieces, and really made my dress a real gown! All under a week and for a very fair and fantastic price. I was so pleased. Not only that, when I picked up my dress, she sent me home withe a coupon and two chocolates! Really great service. I will definitely go back for any future alterations and highly recommend them.

They’re a small boutique located right off the Dupont Circle metro and their prices are comparable, if not better, than other wedding alteration shops in the DC area. They do custom tailoring, dress preservation, and sell jewelry as well. Highly recommend them!
