I’ve taken my clothes for alteration to Geoffrey Lewis for years. They’ve been able to make extremely significant alterations at very reasonable rates. Everything has come out great and always by the date promised.

I had decided that I wanted a custom made suit for my wedding and found Geoffrey Lewis on Unilocal.After visiting the store, I was instantly impressed with Kosta and the staff. Kosta was great and the service provided excellent. When I tried on my suits, they fit perfectly. The team at Geoffrey Lewis did an excellent job. I will admit it’s a bit expensive, but you get what you pay for and it was worth it. I plan on going back in the future.

Kosta and the staff at Geoffrey Lewis are amazing to work with. My fiancé is very tall and thin, it is impossible for him to find clothing off the rack that fits well. For our wedding he was given very limited options for suits and all of them would have needed significant alterations. Once we looked at the cost of a ready made suit plus alternations it made sense to check out custom suit makers.
We shopped around but ultimately Geoffrey Lewis just felt right. It is not the cheapest option but the family team of owners are incredibly helpful and detail oriented. The listened to our wants and guided us through the process. A few weeks later, we were incredibility pleased with the suits. They were made so well the first time no further alternations we needed.
We will definitely be back in the future!

Hands down, the best customer service I’ve ever received with a custom suit. The suit turned out gorgeous, and fit to perfection without any further alterations.
I had an issue with the lining about a year after taking delivery of the suit, and Geoffrey Lewis repaired the lining at no charge. There was one additional minor issue I had about six months after that, and even though the suit was than 18 months old, Georffrey Lewis fixed that issue free-​of-​charge, as well.
There are a number of choices for custom suits in Washington, D.C., and some are less expensive. But I believe you get what you pay for. Others are equally or more expensive (like Alton Lane, which offers suits that are pretty but not durable) and just not worth the money.
Do yourself a favor and go to Geoffrey Lewis first. You won’t be sorry.

Traveled to DC on business and was invited to a gala with a one-​night notice. Called Geoffrey Lewis and was assured that they could meet my request for a tuxedo rental. A little skeptical, I nonetheless had no other choice but to see if this was for real. Upon entering I was treated with customer service that is so uncommon to receive in DC (lived there for six years and have more pans than picks). They took my measurements and sure enough, the tuxedo was available for pick up. Very helpful, knowledgeable staff that can meet your needs.

I went to GL to peruse their tuxes about 5 months before my wedding. After much debate and dismay from Jos A Bank/​Mens Wearhouse, I went with GL. Suffice it to say, it was one of the best rented tuxes I’ve received in the city. The level of attention one receives was much better than the major companies. I recommend!

I’ve had several suits tailored and a half dozen custom shirts designed by Geoffrey Lewis — everything is a cut above. They aren’t inexpensive, but you get what you pay for and the quality is noticeable.
Kosta, who is the shop’s front man, will make you feel at home on your first visit — or your tenth. And they get to know you here; it’s not just a pop-​shop where they can’t remember your name after 25 visits. You’re money gets you insanely good customer service as well.
And if you’re considering shirts or a new suit, stop in and browse. Don’t feel uncertain about asking questions, either — whether you’re new to higher-​end men’s clothing or not, they’re happy to have you and they’ll help you know your stuff.

I’ll start by saying that I’m pretty ignorant to men’s fashion. That said, there’s a palpable difference between the tuxedo I got at Geoffrey Lewis and the one I got a few weeks ago from Men’s Wearhouse.
I’m not really entirely sure how to describe my experience here since I don’t know a ton about suits and clothing but there was something about the level of attention given to each measurement and to my experience in the store that made it feel really great. I feel like I was eating at a fine restaurant of fabric or something.
The price for a rental was reasonable ($ 232 total with shoes) especially since this was a great looking tux. I was complimented multiple times on the night of my event. One that stuck out specifically was when I met the boyfriend of a friend and he asked if I was from another country because Americans don’t usually have such good looking tuxedos. (weird, but I’ll take it)

Originally found Geoffrey Lewis when I was looking for a custom suit. Ended up getting a second-​hand item and brought it to the great folks at the shop and they tailored it up to look like a million bucks! Would highly recommend these guys, they take the time to explain the process and its a no-​pressure environment where you can find something that looks good on you. Can’t wait to go back for my next piece!

I was looking for a new tailor after my old stand-​by retired and was attracted to GL because of all the great reviews and the store’s proximity to my office.
I’ve had bad experiences with tailors in the past, so I usually drop off a test piece to try the place out. Something I don’t mind losing if they screw it up. I brought an older suit that fit ok but did need some adjustments.
They did an excellent job. I only asked for the jacket to be brought in a bit, but they pointed out a couple of problems in the pants. I got the suit back in two weeks and was very happy with their work.
GL also has a good selection of off-​the-​rack suits at reasonable prices with the tailoring included.
Bottom line — I was very pleased with their work, and I’ll probably go back to get nicer stuff tailored. I’ll also maybe buy a suit from them when I need to retire some of my current inventory. At that point I’ll update my review and maybe add the fifth star.

I was looking for a place to rent a tuxedo for my boyfriend and Geoffrey Lewis was the only one on Unilocal that had consistent reviews. Now I know why. They were so helpful and very knowledgeable. They directed us to a tux with a more modern slim cut that looked fab on my bf.
The best part is even though the store is really classy (walls of gorgeous fabric for custom made suits) the tux’s are the same price if not a bit less than other places– $ 160 for everything except shoes which were $ 20 and they got it in 3 days before the event so you can have piece of mind that it will fit and not have to scramble at the last minute. Highly recommended.

I rented a tuxedo from Geoffrey Lewis, and from start to finish, had an excellent experience.
First, I came in 5 minutes before close on a Friday, but the young man managing the store stayed late – and didn’t act a bit begrudged. Never once did I feel like he was trying to sell me on anything; he was incredibly patient and helpful in selecting and fitting a tuxedo to rent. He was very knowledgable about the various cuts, meaning that the tux fit very well when it arrived. They were able to do a very quick turnaround (without making it either a hassle or more costly), and the final pricing was very competitive with any other establishment.
I will certainly be coming back to Geoffrey Lewis if I need a suit, shirts, ties, or the like.

I’m always treated incredibly well here — they treat me like a top customer, even though I’ve only been in a handful of times over the past three years. Every article of clothing I’ve ever had made or altered here was perfect.

I took 4 suits and a pair of trousers to be altered here. They did not take in the waist on any of the pants, so I returned. One pair of the pants they had to let the seat out. Well they did and now my but looks like a curtion there is so much fabric bunched up on my butt. At the prices they charge, I would not expect this type of quality.

I have to disagree with all of the positive reviews this place has received, as I had a pretty unpleasant and unprofessional experience here. I chose this tailor specifically because of the many positive Unilocal reviews, but my own experience was awful. I went in a few months ago with a simple suit I needed tailored. It had been in storage a while so I took it to Geoffrey Lewis to seek their advice. They had me try on the suit, took some measurements, and suggested that I have the jacket slimmed up a bit and cuff the pants. Seems pretty simple, right? I was quoted about $ 85 for the job and told to return in 2 weeks.
When I returned in 2 weeks and tried on the suit, it appeared — and felt — as if they had done NOTHING to it. The jacket was still baggy and the pants were still uncuffed. I immediately reminded them that they informed me that they would cuff the pants as they were pleated, and it didn’t look right without cuffs. The manager/​owner said they would fix it right away and to return the next day. As for the jacket, well, they said they did their best.
When I returned the following day, guess what? Still no change! Apparently their excuse this time was that leaving the pants without cuffs at the bottom «looks more youthful.» Needless to say, I felt like I was walking out of their shop (after 3 separate visits) with the same suit I had brought in. And to top it all off, I still had to pay the full $ 85, even though they did no work to the pants whatsoever.
I would definitely recommend going somewhere else. There are plenty of tailors in DC who will take your job seriously and do it right the first time, without making excuses. I felt like I was dealing with a bunch of amateurs at this place. I expected better. Total waste of time and money.

These guys know how to cut clothes. I purchased two pairs of quality dress pants and a well-​made suit from Filene’s that needed alterations. I got a great deal on the clothes so I decided to splurge on the tailoring and found this place through Unilocal.The staff was very professional and knowledgeable. I was able to drop the clothes off and have measurements taken on my lunch break. The work was finished when promised (approximately two weeks) and what an awesome job!
I had high expectations based on the prior reviews but everything fits so well. I had the pants taken in at the waist and hemmed and I had the jacket taken in, sleeves shortened, and one shoulder adjusted. All three of the pants fit perfectly with no belt and the back pockets were aligned. The jacket fit perfectly as well. I have no negative comments whatsoever in regard to the work. But the total cost (including tax): $ 295.
This place is not cheap, but as many others have stated, you get what you pay for. If I could afford it, I would take lots more of my clothes here, but it’s great to have even one suit in my closet that I know looks great for occasions when I want to look my best.
They also sell some beautiful Italian suits in the $ 500-​$ 700 range which include tailoring. I was offered buy one, get one half-​off for suits and I am considering taking them up on the offer. I might be addicted.

Where else can you get custom tailoring from the man who fits the President of the United States? (Seriously, I’m not making this up.)
I highly recommend Geoffrey Lewis to everyone in the DC metro area who is looking for top-​of-​the-​line custom clothing. This family-​owned business is run by professionals who truly know their trade. You will leave better dressed than you ever have been before!
Whenever I need new formal attire, Geoffrey Lewis is the only place I go.

I have read way too much GQ for my own good. I’m a woman, so knowing how to find the most dashing combination of pocket square/​bowtie/​cufflinks/​narrow cut suit is a waste (believe me, I would if I could). However, one takeaway that I can put to use is tailoring clothes so they fit.
I was lucky enough to come across a beautiful Diane von Furstenberg coat last winter, but it was too big. I wore it a few times, but the sleeves were too long, the body too wide, and the hem too low, making me look like a dumpy penguin. After reading endless magazine articles stressing the importance of tailoring to fit one’s body and seeing too many frumpily dressed women on the street, I said «Enough! To the tailor I go!»
Not wanting to risk disaster at the dry cleaner’s, I did my research and came across Geoffrey Lewis Ltd. I opted for this place specifically because they also made bespoke suits. If they can construct a suit, they can alter my coat, and menswear detailing is almost always better than whatever junky embellishment is put on women’s clothes these days. And luckily, they do women’s alterations.
I brought my coat in at the end of November. Impeccably dressed old men with Italian accents hovered around me, making chalk marks here and there, asking me questions, and made recommendations at my request. It was done very quickly and I had slight doubts about the outcome. Two weeks later (don’t come here if you’re in a rush), I came to pick it up and it fit like a dream. I was afraid that their hasty measurements would result in a wonky fit, but no. The hem was the right length, the sides were taken in to fit snugly, and the sleeves were shortened (albeit shorter than I had originally asked, but it looks rather chic that way, so I’m not worrying about it). The lining was adjusted properly, stitches were minute, and nothing felt loose or shoddy.
I am extremely impressed and happy with the alterations and service here and will be back with other pieces that need major adjustments. It cost $ 127.20 for my coat (shorten hem, take in sides, shorten sleeves), which is on the pricey side, but the quality is just fantastic.
For what it’s worth, a bespoke suit here will run you gentlemen around $ 1300 with in-​store fabrics. I’d start saving up now.

Best place to get a real custom suit and shirts. prices can’t be beat and the customer service is second to none. forget Joseph a banks! this is the real classy place to go.
