From the Farmer

From the Farmer is simply the best. The weekly delivery service is flexible, reliable, and the quality of the produce is excellent. In the rare occasion that something happens to be damaged during delivery (an orange was smashed), then the amazing customer service team takes care of it immediately (account credit). The customer service team is easy to communicate with, responds promptly, and demonstrates a real care and consideration for their customers.
I also love the pantry add-​ons. In addition to the weekly half-​share I receive, I also enjoy having the choice to add on additional meat, dairy, coffee, and produce items. The selection changes weekly and is focused on local businesses. Another perk is that From the Farmer makes meal planning super easy — the suggested recipes are fun to look through and try.
Thank you for challenging my cooking skills with new items each week and for being so delightful!

I LOVE FROM THE FARMER! Could not be more happy! I love their website and its ease of use, I love being able to customize my weekly delivery (i.e. turn off grapefruits — ew — and double up the kale), I love the friendly staff, I love that they deliver and follow instructions well, I love the extra items you can add to your delivery like eggs or meats or dairy (all local), I love their generous referral program, I just LOVE THEM. I was looking for a stellar CSA for years and can’t believe I have finally found one. SO HAPPY!!!

I am so very happy with FROM THE FARMER. This is my first experience with a CSA and my expectations have been far exceeded !
My husband and I are Vegans so we naturally live on vegetables. Having weeksly deliveries of healthy organic (certified or on farms using organic protocols) is wonderful.
They also offer a pay per delivery which means if you can suspend delivery for vacations or when you just don’t need a delivery. This is different from any other CSA in the area as far as I know.
We love the veggies that are available and you can pick from the offerings just in case there is something you do not like.
The recipes the choose have been great and I am fearless to try vegetables that are available to me from the farmer that I have been afraid to try in the past.
If I could give 10 stars, I would.

This is beautiful produce (and now breads, eggs, cheese and meats)!! Sometimes I will get items that I would never purchase in the stores, but I look up recipes and find something interesting to make and voila! I plan my menus each week based on what is being sent and I love the fact that you can order more of something or less of something several days before.
Very efficient and time-​saving. I recommend the company 100% – well run and good people.

I’m very happy with From the Farmer. With the smallest basket, I have more than enough produce for the week, which forces me to cook healthily for myself instead of eating out. I’ve been using it for about a month, and each week the selection is top quality, interesting, and varied, which forces me to learn to cook various kinds of vegetables and try new recipes. I can also switch things around within my basket in case I want double of one thing instead of another. I’m a fan and will continue using it! I’m curious to see how From the Farmer manages winter produce!

Been getting weekly deliveries with my boyfriend since May and love it!
The quality of the produce is amazing. We really enjoy getting a variety of food and planning the week’s meals about what we’re getting in our basket — it’s a good way to keep from getting in a cooking rut. That said, we both like to cook a lot. If you don’t like to cook, it may not be worth it because you may end up wasting food.
Our baskets have always arrived when they are scheduled, and interactions with customer service have always been pleasant. It’s easy to suspend baskets for a week or to customize your order if there’s something you know you don’t like. Would recommend giving it a shot if you’re considering it!

Great service and the food was fresh. I enjoyed everything. Telling all my friends and family.

I have been getting a half-​basket of produce from this CSA for 4 weeks now, and it just keeps getting better. This last one had the sweetest ripest white peaches and HUGE blackberries, need I say more? Most of the produce has just been beautiful and fresh and organic; rarely is there a dud or bump in the process (currently their ‘every other week’ choice button is under repair), but these guys have the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. They are communicative and friendly and try very hard to make you happy every week. Once a squirrel got into my beautiful bakery bread, and even though it wasn’t their fault, they comped me for it (now I just leave a cooler out, works great.) They even throw in awesome free gifts once in awhile.
I first saw FtF mentioned in several local food blogs (with a coupon!) and then got into this for several of the ‘usual’ reasons. I was raised on fresh fruit and veggies from the backyard, and want to support small local farmers instead of big farm conglomerates. I missed the variety of fruits and vegetables I know from my past, many of which you can’t find in the supermarket, or the quality isn’t there; I am very picky. (Guys– I’m waiting for some kohlrabi this fall!) And then there’s just no substitute for freshness– if you’ve never had just-​picked string beans, or free-​range eggs, you haven’t lived. Trust me on this one, just try it, you’ll be hooked.
But mostly, the convenience of home delivery appealed to me. I have had some health issues this year, let my gardening go, and never enjoyed shopping anyway. I LOVE that they tell me on Tues. what’s coming and I can customize it till Thursday, and deliver in a nifty insulated bag in the middle of the night on Friday AM, avoiding the heat of the day, and our area’s famous gasoline-​guzzling traffic! All you have to do is follow their advice on how to best store the items (most go right in the fridge) and decide how and when to prepare it. They even send recipes with helpful ideas to spark your creativity. The only thing left is going to the store for some meat (see my butcher recommendation) and sundries, and you’re done!
I find the portions are perfect for me (half bushel– 1 or 2 people), and nothing ever goes to waste. The PRICE is perfect too; initially I thought it was high BUT now, to the contrary, I think it is more than reasonable (and the full bushel size an even better bargain– I’m tempted!) What I’ve found is — a quite unexpected benefit after joining– I must be more judicious about my meal planning and waste, because — my food bills have been cut almost in half ! And of course I am eating much healthier, loving my fruits and veggies, and loving not walking around the store for hours. I AM ONE BIG HAPPY CAMPER! Please support this worthwhile effort, you won’t be sorry, and you’ll be making the world a better place.

I’ve been getting FtF for the last year and a half or so. I was really glad to find it.
First off, these guys have excellent customer service. If for some reason you get something that is bad, or the delivery doesn’t happen, you are taken care of. The even better part is that it rarely occurs anyway =).
My favorite part about this is that you can customize your delivery every week. There are some things that you may not want, and you can skip that and opt for double of something else if that’s better for you.
Also, I travel a ton — and I can suspend a delivery at any time with no penalty. If you get the delivery, you pay. If you don’t, you just skip to the next week.
So far I’ve been pretty happy with the quality/​quantity of food. You’re definitely paying a premium for being hip and for the delivery, but if you’ve got the cash to spend I highly recommend From the Farmer DC!
Last thing I’ll say, the latest webpage update is unfortunately terrible on the PC. It’s finally good for mobile, but twice as bad for PC — one day they will get it though =).

From the farmer has a great service that offers a lot of flexibility. The produce they provide is always top notch. Additionally they have some of the best customer service– they have been responsive and very friendly.

I’ve been super pleased with the quality, quantity, and punctuality of From the Farmer. I started getting the half bushel per week a few weeks ago, and every week there has been a great selection of produce delivered outside my door before I’m even awake on Wednesday mornings.
I love that you can customized your weekly delivery by getting less (or none) of something you don’t like and more of something you will use. I happen to like everything they’ve offered so far, so I haven’t had to utilize that feature yet, but I like to know it’s there in case I need it. You can also add on a half dozen eggs and other goodies if you want to, or change the size of your share on a weekly basis. And! You can turn off delivery when you’re out of town. They bill you on a weekly basis.
This is by far the easiest CSA I’ve ever participated in. Food you will actually eat, delivered to your door, only when you’re around to eat it.

I have been using from the farmer since they started delivering to my work about a year ago.
Pros– you can turn off delivery at any point. You can also trade out an item for more of another. The customer service is always awesome and very quick to reply to your email. Final pro is if you refer someone you get a discount on your next basket and they get a discount too !
Cons– Im not always sure if the products are worth the cost especially in winter and early spring.

The quality of the produce is lovely; it is fresh and in great condition. I really like that it is local and that there are additional local products included like granola, tea, dried fruit, etc.
The delivery came within the timeframe promised and the website is very user friendly and easy to navigate. You receive an email with a list of items to be included in the next bushel or you can visit their site yourself. There are options to adjust the quantity of the items — you can exclude an item you’re not interested in and double up on something you like better. It is also extremely easy to cancel a shipment if you have too much produce or plan to be out of town the following week.
That said, this service just isn’t for me… and it is strictly about the value. The amount of produce received for $ 45. (Full bushel) just isn’t worth it for us. This service is light years ahead of other CSAs in terms of accessibility, customization, convenience and automation. If, like me, you have access to a lot of local farms and farmer’s markets you may find the price point is way too high to justify the convenience of having it delivered to your door. While loading up two babies to go to the farmer’s market is a bit of a pain, it isn’t impossible for me and it is worth the effort when I consider the friendly rapport I’ve developed with several local farmers. In my «previous life» of extensive work travel, 70 hour work weeks and being flush with cash but short on time, this would have been a perfect option for me — it just doesn’t meet my needs now.

I tried FTF after using a Guilt City coupon thinking– «after the coupon is over I’ll prob never do it because it seemed a little pricey.» I am so amazed at the quality of good and customer service and will probably extend when the coupon is over. You actually get more than you think– do you realize how much a bushel is? Even half a bushel? It’s fresh and delivered. Also if you’re thinking about itt– they have a 40% coupon now for new customers! Seriously, just do it! You will not be disappointed. And for the customer service and the ability to customize is pretty worth it! I’ve never been disappointed and now I’m a really a huge fan of them! «Convert» if you will :) I had to cancel my order the day before and they were so helpful in doing so. The automatic subscription made me wary at first, but trust me it’s so easy and you can set it up– when you want. Also, if you hate Brussels sprouts (I don’t but I just saying :), you can just say «none» and get more of what you like. So great!
My only complaint is I wish I had a longer window to customize my basket. I realize since the food is local and constantly changing, is tough to do. Love you guys. keep it up!

Just got my first order today! I know I read that this might happen but it still kinda sucks that I got cabbage instead of kale. I was looking forward to kale. Also, my order didn’t come in a spiffy tote like the other pics. Came in a cardboard box.
On a positive note! I got a purple carrot and I’m pretty psyched about that. No lie!
Overall it’s still a cool convenient way to eat more veggies!

Did this for a while after I tried it with a Gilt City coupon. The selection was awesome and the produce fresh. I aso got the fresh bread add-​on — sooooo worth it. It was really great bread — artisian, local and fresh made. It is a little more expensive than some other competitors, but the customer service is great. The ordering and managing of your account is super easy online — you can cancel your delivery for the week, or swap out things really fast. Also, the picnic baskets the delivery comes in are really quality — with insulation and metal handles. They also let you keep a few if you like!

I am a fan of FTF. I wholeheartedly recommend it to my friends who have a busy schedule, but still want fresh produce. The food is always fresh and delivery is on time — Thursday mornings for my neighborhood. The fact that I can skip deliveries and take out items that I don’t like is a terrific convenience. And during the winters when they run low on certain produce, they offer creative substitutes (jams, smoked ice-​tea to name a few) to make up for it.
My only complaints are that the veggies usually come a bit wet and sometimes goes bad quicker than usual (maybe that’s the deal with fresher produce without as much preservatives as those from a large supermarket?). The wetness is a problem because they sometime make the veggies (especially leafy ones and mushrooms) soggy. The wetness could be water that prevents the veggie from drying or the condensation as the basket is sitting outside my house in the early morning. Either way, I end up spending an extra 10 – 15 minutes after I bring the produce in to dry it before putting it in the fridge.
As for food going bad quicker than what we are used to, I’d like to think that it’s because they are picked ‘just ripe’ as oppose to what we normally get a supermarkets where things are harvested a while before they are ripe to account for transportation and storage.
Now if I can only whip up recipes quicker…

I just received my first delivery from FTF this morning, and I could not be happier! I live in a dorm building and had to work out the delivery process, but the people at FTF were more than accommodating and unbelievably helpful and friendly! Any questions, concerns, requests– they’ll get back to you right away and do whatever they can to help. It was so exciting opening my bag to fresh raspberries, kale, cauliflower, peaches, endive, and green tomatoes– I even went online a couple days earlier to request more of what I wanted and less of what I didn’t want. I would strongly encourage those considering this, especially those who have never done anything similar before, to try it out! It’s hassle-​free, and you can really feel good about supporting a local farm and eating local produce, instead of spending almost the same amount at a grocery store like Whole Foods. FTF gets TWO THUMBS UP!

I have just received my second delivery of FTF produce and all I have to say is WOW. Both times there was an issue with my delivery, and as soon as I told them they fixed it the very next night.
These people really care about their product and their customers and you truly feel that in their service. Kaylee McHugh has always been particularly helpful to me when I’ve had a problem.
This is a really great program for anyone wanting to try a CSA without the season long commitment. I would recommend this business to anyone.

I cannot say enough good things about From the Farmer. The quantity, quality and diversity in my magic basket of wonders is nothing short of Christmas morning when I get it :) The diversity of produce in these baskets is awesome, as well — sunchokes, peach bourbon jam, ramps, baby swiss chard — it’s really pushed me to try new recipes and be a better cook.
The few times (like twice in 6 months of weekly full-​bushel baskets) there have been issues, I’ve emailed and their costumer service has come back to me within minutes with an apology and some sort of way to make it better.
