Just about every server and bartender appeared to want to be anywhere but at work. There was not a smile in the entire place on the staff. Waited at the bar for almost 15 minutes to place an order… and it wasn’t crowded… plenty of open seats. The couple next to us seemed to have an even worse experience. The bartender, Senia, apparently charged them for drinks they didn’t order and then lied to the manager, Steven, about what was ordered. I had to step in and provide my input when they were going to charge this couple $ 12 for what was supposed to be $ 6 happy hour drinks. Besides the very poor service, the food is average at best. The«Asian BBQ Chicken Quesadilla» was an overly salty regular chicken quesadilla. The«Kale salad» was ok. The«Sage Marinated Organic Chicken» was barely marinated in anything — very bland — and this is marked on the menu as a specialty. I would not return to Fire and Sage

Overall a 3 star restaurant(4 star if you are on a gluten free diet), what you would expect for a Marriott hotel restaurant in a large city. The food is good quality but pricy. The major plus is a larger gluten-free menu. The gluten-free fettuccini Alfredo with chicken was good.

Wife and stopped after the morning spent at Smithsonian. We were sat immediately, server was walking slow throughout her section. Acted lazy and diss-interested, took our beer and appetizer order then tried to walk off. My wife had to grab her attention so we could go ahead and order our entrees. The food quality was good, the pot-stickers were phenomenal, right as we finished the food runner who was at our table more than our server was a ray of sunshine, delivered our sandwiches. Wife had the crabcake sandwich and I had the Ruben. She said hers wasn’t not balanced taste wise and was a little disappointed. The Ruben had a great corned beef flavor but skimpy of the kraut and Russian dressing. The only time our server smiled was when we left. I am a chronic 20+% tipper as I used to serve/bartend but left 18%, the location and décor is amazing but service and taste left us wanting.

I stayed at the Marriott Metro over Thanksgiving 2015 weekend. I was alone but was not treated as an afterthought by the wait staff. They had a delicious proper Thanksgiving dinner. On my last night, I had a delectable tilapia over a bed of asparagus. Wait staff and manager stopped by to make sure all was well. As a solo traveller, I greatly appreciate that I was treated so well. Also, room service was great.

We stopped in here a few weeks ago to grab a drink after seeing a comedian. The place had a decent crowd and the waitress was good about checking back to see if we needed anything.

Went here for breakfast and reassured myself why I don’t like to eat in hotel lobbies. Buffet was a bit expensive, and since I don’t really eat $ 25 worth of food I chose to order from the menu. Ordered the crunchy French toast– did not like it. Not much flavor at all. Hubby did get the buffet so he brought me something to eat, but I was already put off. A glass of orange juice was $ 6, and it was a SMALL cup. I will say this, the service was good. We have a toddler and they were very attentive of her and very nice to us. I would have preferred to eat at a smaller local spot than this.

Something is going on at this place. We were staying at the Marriott this past weekend and we went to this bar three different times. The first time we went, the bartender was clearly in a terrible mood. It seemed like we were inconveniencing her by ordering. It happens, no big deal. We all hate work. Then, to my surprise, we get the bill and she’s added drinks that we didn’t order(nice try). When confronted, there was no apology or acknowledgement of the mistake. She just gave us a new ticket. Seemed a little fishy. The next couple times we went were good. It was a different bartender who was much more pleasant. The happy hour is good. Decent prices. But this is where it gets weird. We get back to New York and I notice 7 separate charges from this place. Literally 7. Each of the three bills were rang up twice plus there was a $ 2.75 charge. I’ve been to a lot of bars in my day. And I use my card at virtually all of them. Occasionally, I will see a random $ 2.00−3.00 charge to verify funds on the card. Pretty standard. But I’ve never been double charged for the entire bill. Three times. That’s ridiculous. I called the restaurant and they sent me to the accounting departments voicemail. Great. I called back and finally got a manager. He said this is standard practice at fire and sage? and that I would be refunded in a few days. It’s been two days– still no refund. Once again, no apology for the inconvenience. It seems like they try to get over on people who don’t pay attention to their bill. If I hadn’t called they probably would have just kept the money. Proceed with caution at this place. There is some shadiness going on. Use cash.

I went to Fire and Sage for brunch with friends, and unfortunately, was not impressed. I got the eggs benedict with hashbrowns and coffee. The eggs benedict were salty! What??? Nevertheless, I kept eating because I was hungry. Our server was very nice, but she didn’t do a good job of keeping the water coming. We split the bill three ways, she switched up our cards and charged the wrong amount on two of them. After signing the bills we left. But it wasn’t over. The server came running out to tell us she was going to charge one card an extra $ 30. She thought she hadn’t rung up that bill. What actually happened: she didn’t check the table and properly and didn’t pick up all the receipts. After explaining this, we kept walking.

The restaurant is in the Marriott Metro Center Hotel. I had a burger for lunch and just had their french onion soup at the bar. Both were good, but not worth the price. Keep in mind, this is a hotel restaurant and it’s in a very busy area of Washington, D.C., so that has a LOT to do with the prices. The burger I got was what they call The Marriott Burger and it was average size and the only thing that stood out about it was it was cooked properly, medium, just as I asked for. Aside from that, it was just an average burger. It did come with fries and a pickle, which were good. Not great, but nothing to get excited about. The Three-onion soup gratin is their fancy wording for a small, but good bowl of french onion soup. There was lots of nicely melted cheese on top of the croutons, although the cheese was a little burned. I like it when it’s got some brown to it, but this had some black spots. That just smacks of a careless chef not paying close attention to when it’s done. That being said, it was tasty, but it was a pretty small bowl. I have french onion soup at Panera Bread all the time and this bowl was smaller than a Panera portion. So, the price definitely was not justified by the quality or quantity of the food. The burger and fries was $ 17 and the onion soup was $ 10. Again, you have to keep in mind that the restaurant is in the Marriott Metro Center hotel in D.C., a very expensive city. I have not eaten elsewhere in D.C. yet, so I don’t know how these prices compare to other restaurants in the area, but when I was walking the city earlier I saw signs pointing to Chinatown, so I have a feeling there is Chinese food in my future.

Breakfast at 9:30am on a Thursday morning with approximately 5 other patrons in the restaurant. Slowest and most inattentive service I have encountered in awhile. The food took forever to arrive and my breakfast was slightly warm when received. I didn’t send it back because we had waited for over 30 minutes from order to delivery of food to our table. Even the toast was under toasted and really just wilted. One star for convenience but in the future I will go elsewhere which we are doing for the next two mornings of our stay in the hotel.

Stayed three nights at the Marriott. Checked out Fire & Sage for happy hour, breakfast & ordered room service. Happy hour didn’t work for us just because they seemed understaffed or unable to efficiently serve their customers. It wasn’t overwhelmingly packed either… few people at bar, few people at bar tables. Our drinks were good: bourbon on rocks(splash of water in bourbon not splash of bourbon in water) & Russian mule. We probably would have ordered another round but no one ever came back to check on us. Too bad. Kids loved their room service. Everything came up piping hot & was devoured. Breakfast was very good, though pricey…$ 20 per person off the menu. Like other Unilocalers mentioned, the buffet at $ 22 is probably the best bet… fruit, eggs, carbs, protein… it’s all there. I went with the avocado & turkey sausage egg white frittata. Very good, dinner plate sized portion loaded with avocado & sausage topped with nicely dressed grape tomatoes. Husband got the crunchy french toast… hearty bread coated in egg then corn flakes served with tons of banana & strawberry slices. Kids went with pancakes & bacon… huge portions, happy kids. If I stayed here again, I’d give them another try.

I had an incredible experience over several nights at Fire &Sage. The staff is beautiful and very friendly. The chef that I interacted with is an incredibly valuable asset to the operation. Not only because his food is fantastic, but also because he is a super friendly and engaging person. Treats everyone like guests in his home. A great group of people and fantastic food!

They’re inside the Marriott Metro — so if you’re staying here this is as convenient as it gets. + My best meal here was the shrimp and pancetta brick oven pizza. I added chicken for $ 2 more — and it was worth it! I also tried: — Crab cake sliders($ 15). I thought it tasted better without the bun. Fries served on the side and they were pretty bland. — Eggs Benedict(my all time favorite breakfast meal) — was just OK. — Breakfast buffet($ 20) — Most entrée options for breakfast are between $ 12 — $ 17 so if there is more than one item that catches your attention — you’re better off getting the buffet and perhaps getting fruit for when you’re on the go. Everyone was courteous and friendly during the day(three stars for that) — but I had one rude & unpleasant experience occur that brought it all down hill. This place is definitely convenient, but there are also a handful of other good places in the area worth trying as well.

Inside of hotel, hostess was friendly and wait staff nice. Happy hour speciala $ 2 off certain drinks and beer specials. $ 2 off certain appetizers.. Crab artichoke dip was very yummy. Would definitely have again.. Saw other items from the menu I would like to try. I had the shrimp and crab parpadelle pasta and it had great potential just no flavor for me. I had to add salt and pepper for morw flavor. My husband had the scallop and he loved it the plate was empty

Fire & Sage was alright. I honestly wasn’t too impressed and it wasn’t as nice a place as I was expecting. I hadn’t even realized that it was located in the Marriott in Metro Center. I visited for happy hour with a friend. The happy hour isn’t anything too special — you get $ 4 on rail drinks and $ 2 off certain wines and beers. The starters and sliders are also either half off or $ 2 off, depending on what you get. But there wasn’t much of a variety to choose from. I’ve had better elsewhere. I opted for the Marriott burger and it was pretty dry… it was honestly hard to scarf that all down. The bread was so dry that it fell apart and the other ingredients on the burger(which included aged cheddar and bacon) tasted old too. I got some wine and it was alright, but nothing stellar. Then again, I don’t expect anything stellar for $ 6. Fire & Sage was alright. Good service and edible food. But nothing spectacular and I likely wouldn’t dine there again.

I like this place for Happy Hour — you can get $ 4 draft 60 minute dogfish head’s and they have tasty sliders and wings for decent prices. They have football games on on Sunday’s so if you are too cheap to pay for cable, like we are, then this is a good place to go and chill out without being surrounded by a sea of drunk douches. It is a hotel bar(in the Marriott) and it was kind of random that we ended up there the first time, but it’s clean and nice and the bartenders are fine. Although one of them had to look up how to make a hot toddy on a cheat sheet during our last visit :)

This past Friday, we spent the night at the Marriott Metro Center. The plan was to check into the hotel, then grab dinner somewhere in the vicinity. After researching what was nearby, I passed along the info to my husband to see what he would prefer. He zeroed in on Fire & Sage because their online menu said that they had an entrée with a Duroc pork chop. Plus the restaurant was in the hotel. We got to the restaurant around 6:30 p.m. The hostess asked if we had a reservation. When we said«no», she cringed, looked around the restaurant, then took us to a table. We understood that the whole charade was to make us think, «Oh gee — how nice of them to squeeze us in!» The reality was that there was more than one unoccupied table. I think the whole idea behind the décor here is to make you feel like you’re eating in someone’s living room. The table we were given looked like an end table, although a bit higher and the chairs were leather winged back ones that not only were too low for the table but weren’t very comfortable. Good thing that they had throw pillows because I needed to sit on one, being that I’m so short. When we looked at the menu, right away we noticed that it wasn’t like the one online. There were no Duroc pork chops. I asked my husband if he wanted to eat someplace else. He said no, but was disappointed, nonetheless. Our server came to the table in a reasonable amount of time. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. However, once she brought us our food, she made herself scarce. We ordered drinks. I had an icebreaker Martini which was supposed to have some peppermint liquor in it, along with some other ingredients. It turned out to be a rather bland, if colorful, drink. My husband had some Chardonnay which he said was good quality. We both started off with Three onion soup, which had parmesan and gruyère cheese. I was pleased that they weren’t heavy handed with the parmesan. The soup came out piping hot. Overall, it was rather bland. We agreed that we’ve had much more flavorful onion soup. For my main course, I had Sage Marinated Organic Chicken. This dish consisted of a boneless, skinless chicken breast along with wilted spinach and supposedly, a sweet potato risotto. The chicken was on the dry side and the wilted spinach tasted like it had been frozen, rather than fresh. The risotto was properly cooked but there was no sweet potato in it and it was«meh». My husband ordered Sea Scallops. This dish consisted of wild mushroom ragout, herb risotto and citrus butter sauce. He said that the scallops were the best part of the dish as they were tender and properly prepared. The wild mushroom ragout looked to me like it was made up of button mushrooms and my husband was convinced that was the case. He found his risotto to be too sweet. I suggested that he mix the mushrooms into it to off set the sweetness. He did so and said it helped somewhat. All this was surprisingly expensive considering the quality of the food. Before the tip, dinner was $ 99. We both agree that we won’t return. While it wasn’t the worst meal we’ve had, we know that we could have done better…

Normally I am not a fan of hotel restaurants but I would go back to Fire & Sage and try more of the menu. Ambience is modern, clean & relatively quiet. Kitchen is open which gives those seated in part of the bar the ability to watch some of the action and expediting. Service was very friendly and prompt starting from the hostess through to table waiting and bussing. Wine selection was decent with incredibly good prices and the ability to select THREE different size pours. Hummus is made in house and the toasted pita was warm and had a wood-fire taste to it. Thumbs up for: service, price, convenience

Fire and Sage is located in the lobby of the Marriott at Metro Center — I think it’s pretty typical for hotel food. I got the burger with a side of the wood grilled asparagus. The asparagus was very good — well seasoned and perfectly cooked. The burger was dry, the bun was cold and it couldn’t handle the burger. I was glad I took it to my room, because after a couple bites it was a complete mess. The food is definitely overpriced. For a few bucks more you could get a decent meal just a block away. But, it’s convenient and the service was fine.
