Ebenezers Coffeehouse

I was waiting for a friend around Union Station and didn’t want to be around the chaos that’s there so I decided to walk around and stumbled upon this place.
My initial thought was «Yes! A warm coffee shop» cause it’s freezing out with the wind chills. Walked in and immediately loved the interior and how spacious it was. It’s really charming with the brick walls and upholstered high chairs. It also has an industrial feel to it with the exposed ceiling.
I ordered the honey lavender latte. Tastes exactly like it sounds. Upon sipping it, you get the taste of sweet honey with a lingering lavender aftertaste. I might see if they can add less honey next time. I don’t know if this is a regular drink since it was on the seasonal menu but I hope it is!

This place does not need another review, but it’s great, so I’ll give it one. I only ever get the spiced dirty soy chai. It is really great, not too sweet. But more importantly– this place has good wifi, so much space, is really convenient from h st or union station, and is very instagrammable. They actually have enough outlets! And as a bonus, if you are a meet up group/​study group/​enormous family they have huge tables downstairs that maybe you can reserve? I can also say I have personally witnessed at least three not that awkward first dates down there, so maybe take that girl from okcupid to this place for the soy latte of your dreams.

Great cider, nice ambience, good for work or for socializing.

All-​around delicious drinks, unbelievably friendly staff, and adorable atmosphere. Coffeeshop playlists are a big deal, and Ebenezers’ never disappoints. I come here to do work all the time; they have free wifi (you just have to ask for the password that changes regularly) and it doesn’t even matter if I forget my headphones because the music is constantly on point.
The atmosphere is great. There are always a lot of people so it’s sometimes hard to get a seat upstairs even though there is a communal table and lots of armchairs and mini bar tables, but there’s a huge space downstairs where they have shows sometimes, but during the day it becomes just a lot of study space! And outlets EVERYWHERE, both upstairs and downstairs.
My only issue is that they don’t have much food and the food that they do have is fine. They have breakfast sandwiches that they’ll heat up for you I think, and pastries. Also an assortment of juices and sparkling drinks in the fridge, as well as packaged coffee, granola/​fruit bars, chips, fruit, and books for purchase. Overall, great spot for coffee/​cider/​other and getting work done, but not so much for food.

I work at the SEC so having this place right around the corner is a real treat! I’ve only been here twice but their pumpkin chai latte was to die for, and their raspberry italian soda really hit the spot. I will definitely try their actual coffee next time and perhaps up to 5 stars — I think it’s important to try the good stuff before giving them a perfect rating — which of course is on me.
Will update review after. Would love to come by for a music night as well!

Stop #1 on Indie Coffee Passport!
If you’re not familiar, there is a program called DC «Indie Coffee Passport» that allows you to pay a flat $ 20 and go to a series of local coffee shops, sample 1 drink for a selected menu, and get a stamp. Really cool, right? Well Ebenezer’s was on the list so here the adventure begins.
The Space:
REALLY COOL! Apparently it’s a converted diner that has had a major renovation with a full stage downstairs and large patio outside. Neat!
Honey Lavender Latte:
Exactly as it sounds with great flavor.
I’d go back if you want to make a day of getting work done with a coffee, and a great place for groups to gather.

This shop is so charming. Such a cozy place to sit and do work, as many others were doing as well.
The chai latte was really good, would recommend to anyone. They have your standard other coffee beverage options.

Have visited here several times now. It’s usually crowded but its a great place. The vanilla chai is fantastic!

The atmosphere is very cozy & altogether pleasant. The wait staff seems courteous & efficient.
I went in for decaffeinated coffee about 4 pm. They didn’t have any, but the guy behind the counter suggested decaf café Americano (I think) & it was fine.
I also had a chocolate cream cheese cupcake that looked way better than it tasted.

I’ve been wanting to check this place out for a long time, and it easily met all my expectations and more. It’s one of the best coffee shops in DC, hands down. I needed to get work done, and not only was it great atmosphere to get it done, but it was a perfectly pleasant time. I got some pleasure reading in to boot.
I love a place that offers different vibes. Upstairs has huge windows with tons of light streaming in and seems more conducive to chatting. The downstairs is dead silent, more ready for business, tons of seating, with plenty of outlets to use. Watch out for events on the schedule, though, because the space is not always available for visitors.
Then you have the outside patio. I love that, with all the tall buildings surrounding this place, the sun gets blocked out pretty early, leaving plenty of time where it is still light out but you won’t get scorched. It is one of the most pleasant outdoor patios I have ever been on, and I love taking a good book and an iced drink out there.
And the drinks. Did I mention the drinks? I like keeping it simple with a double espresso, and theirs is flavorful, tasty, and so much better than the starbucks or firehook version. I would put it right near the top of the list of highest quality espresso in DC. After a few visits, I had to try their diverse and delicious list of seasonal drink, and these too are among the best sweet espresso creations in town. One of their signatures is the blackberry latte. Just a fruity syrup, but it’s definitely unique and tasty. The salted caramel custard latte is a dessert in a cup. Amazing sweet flavor, it is truly delicious. One of the best syruupy lattes I’ve ever had. The spiced iced chai is good, too. They have a vanilla variety as well, but I prefer the spiced because it is less sweet and decaf. I could not see them make it, but based on the flavor I would say it is powdered, but still high quality. Second only to Soho for me in terms of favorite chais in town.
As you can see, no matter what you are looking for, they have you covered. Bonus points because the staff is made up of some of the nicest and most helpful coffeeshop employees I have come across. They will brighten your day for sure.

If you work anywhere near Union Station, this is WELL WORTH the short walk! Bring a book or grab a coffee, the atmosphere is perfect for any length of stay.

This place has a great vibe and I appreciate their «coffee for a cause» mentality. My spiced chai was delicious and the pumpkin muffin was as well. We visited on a Sunday morning and although there are many places to sit, it was busy enough that we had to wait for a seat. Obviously a super popular neighborhood place!

This is a really pleasant place to relax with coffee and a book. The patio is really nice in the afternoon. The baked goods are fine but nothing special. Service is really friendly without being obnoxious. I’d go again!

The honey lavender latte was delicious! Hands down the best I’ve ever had. Sweet enough on its own with the perfect amount of froth. However, the atmosphere is what seals the deal for me. I could easily rank this place as my favorite in the DC area.
Oozing with coffee shop personality, both indoor and outdoor seating is available. I enjoyed the very low key sounds of jazz music playing in the background. Free wifi.
Located right behind Union Station and a stones throw from the Capitol bldg. Even better I learned the National Community Church owns the shop and donates all of the proceeds to benefit community out reach projects.
So, not only do you get to enjoy awesome coffee in a great atmosphere. But, you’re also supporting a wonderful cause.

Nice place to get work done. And it’s a quick walk from Union Station Metro, which is nice. I went on a Monday afternoon and had no issues finding a table. There is one large table near the entrance and about 10 small 2-​person tables lining the walls of the coffee shop.

A mainstay in my DC/​NoVa repertoire of unchained coffee houses. I give it five stars because they make the simple act of ordering a gourmet coffee and pastry a highly pleasant experience. I’m there enough the baristas recognize me now, and I’m usually only there on a day off or a weekend. And I usually ride my bike in from Alexandria. Eb’s is the midway point of a roughly 30-​mile meandering ride, but a great layover for a caffeine boost and muffin.
I’m no connoisseur, and I’ve had slightly better coffee other places NOT in the DC area, but first visited Eb’s via recommendation of a coffee connoisseur friend in Minneapolis (arguably the best brew house coffee is found there). Wasn’t disappointed then on my first visit in 2013, and it has only gotten better since.
There’s a reason there’s always a healthy line. It’s established, and it’s very good. And it’s not Starbucks.

Awesome coffee shop. Right around the corner from the senate office buildings. If you’re in the area, look out for this place. They had a really good latte for decent price.
I’m not sure why it doesn’t have 5* from me. I really like it that much. I suppose the coffee just didn’t blow my doors off. Otherwise, it would have been perfect.

Ebenezers is a coffehouse, located in the Capitol Hill neighborhood, owned and operated by the National Community Church. All profits made go towards the community outreach projects, which I thought was pretty neat! They a selection of coffee, espresso, and lattes, as well as fair trade coffee (One Village Coffee) for sale. Their bakery case offers croissants, danishes, cakes, and the little fridge contains pre-​made croissant sandwiches and cold beverages. I tried a barista-​recommended drink, the Blackberry Vanilla Latte — you can request it to be either hot or cold (I opted for hot, but also requested a cup of ice); the latte had a nice pronounced blackberry flavor (from the syrup), but I didn’t really taste the vanilla. However, it was nice and strong, with definitely a lot of foam on top. Service was super friendly, and the place is very hipster-​like, with the dark wooden décor, the wire-​encased hanging bulbs, and the armless leather chairs. I’d love to come back and try out their other specialty beverages.

What a cool coffee shop! Kind of tucked in near Union Station. I came to Union Station to pick up someone but arrived early and happened to find a parking spot within a block away from Ebenezers.
The interior is airy, there are street signs right inside so you can always tell your friend your exact location. ;) Service is friendly, coffee is not bitter and tasty and hot and plenty. My banana nut muffin was very fresh and soft. And at 8:30am on a Monday, it is not too crowded!
This is a perfect place to pick up good coffee and breakfast before taking Amtrak to NYC.
