This is a truly awesome public library. Compact, simply arranged, but with old-​style renovated architecture including high ceilings that give the place «loft.» The staff is the real treat, mainly professional young women with excellent customer service skills (meaning, incredibly patient with the motley crew that shows up there daily!). Lots of lap tops and 8 computer stations for adults. Limited but good book selection. You will feel very comfortable here.

I’m a fan of the DC Library system and the fact that I can search/​reserve books online and pick them up at my local library.
As for Takoma Park Branch, it’s a bit wanting. First, I wish there was self-​checkout because I often have to wait for someone to check me out (and there are some very slow librarians). Second, the books that are housed in the library are sometimes hard to get to because of the way the desks are set up. You literally would have to ask people who are seated to move, to access certain stacks. Third, they could do a better job of communicating when they’ll be open. They closed for 3 days a couple weeks ago due to weather and didn’t update their website about it. Not cool.
That said, it’s a serviceable branch and used in conjunction with the DC library’s online system, is a perfectly fine option and I’m generally satisfied.

Love it! Go online and request the books you’d like to read, then wait a few days for an email telling you your book is ready to pick up. Could it be any easier? Just don’t request more books than you can read in 3 weeks. Staff is always nice. Say goodbye to buying books you’ll never read more than once — go to the library!

Actually it is pretty nice, well renovated, and with a decent selection of books. They will order books from the main collection if they don’t have it.
My main problem with it really is a philosophical one-​they seem to have decided that computers are more important than books, and devote nearly half the floor space to computers. while I am sure this actually serves the community well, and is an important service, I personally don’t like it. I feel like it detracts from the point of being a library. A library should… be about BOOKS. There should also be computer centers etc, but I feel like focusing on them in a library ruins the point.
Anyways, enough ranting, they did pretty well and it is a good local branch.
