Clyde’s of Gallery Place

Delicious berry cobbler! Made in house served with a perfect ratio of ice cream and cobbler! Yum!

We had only a limited amount of time before a tour and Clyde’s came through with speed, accuracy and deliciousness. Between the three of us we had the french dip sandwich, crab cake sandwich, soup, and filet mignon. Dessert was crème brûlée and strawberry shortcake.
Everything was wonderful. The ambience was delightful, the service was spectacular: our waiter, Ray S. was terrific: cordial, talkative and really helpful.
A great find!

Came here with my friend… Company was fantastic, our waiter was weird! The restaurant was completely dead but I swear he was in such a rush to push us out of there. We were just chatting it up trying to catch up but he just wouldn’t let us do that! Ugh! Food prices are a bit overpriced. We did a few appetizers and drinks. Everything was ok… not bad, but not for the price. I think it’s more of a «fine dining» joint, but good grief, for fine dining, you shouldn’t be rushed but literally, he was counting down the number of mussels we had left in our pot. Let us eat for crying out loud!

My fiancé and I were visiting DC from Florida and decided to try Clyde’s as they had burgers and they were open early. Let me start my saying the pros:
1. Upstairs they had a beautiful room with a great view
2. Servers were great! Super accommodating and helpful
Now — my fiancé is a fitness competitor and she can seldom eat at restaurants, so she brings her specialized salads. We have literally NEVER had a problem before at any other restaurant. At Clyde’s — after we’ve been seated for about 20 minutes, not one, but TWO managers come up to our table and tell us she can’t eat her food there.
1. I’ve already ordered my meal
2. We were one of two tables in the entire room
3. The lady manager argued and insisted we leave because it’s a health code violation
** we looked it up — there is no such health code that prohibits outside food **. We had just come from the gym — so wouldn’t our mildly sweaty clothes be a problem? She said our clothes were fine. I pointed out a protein shake I had brought in (water+protein) and she said that wasn’t allowed either — no outside food. The FDA regulates bottled water — does that make it a food and therefore not allowed in their restaurant? This was a tiny salad in her tiny Tupperware — which she was almost done eating.
Ultimately, we cancelled my meal and left. The manager ruined our days, ruined her servers’ tip (I tip very well), destroyed the chance of us ever going into a Clyde’s again (and our friends as we are sharing this story), caused a scene, all because she upheld a make-​believe health code.
I hope their kitchen is regulated as strictly as their patrons.

We went there for the late night happy hour. The bar in the lower portion close to the front door had the rudest and most incompetent bar tender I’ve encountered in years. Ironically he was also thoroughly arrogant even through he had nothing to be arrogant about. This guy totally ignored my party sitting at the bar and then forgot about our orders –multiple times– once he did finally take our order. It wasn’t just us, he carded 50 year olds with sarcasm and slammed beers down in front of customers with disgust. He should be fired. Horrible horrible horrible service.
He also was very unprofessional to his barkeep assistant-​chewing him out in front of the patrons several times. It was embarrassing and sad. Also ironically the assistant was very nice. Huge smile and actually acknowledged us as patrons and even smiled. His boss, the main bartender, did none of that.
The food is good. The late night 50% off seafood is awesome.

As a Pittsburgh foodie in DC, I was excited to see what this city had to offer. I was visiting family for the weekend, so we stopped by Clyde’s for a quick lunch before a show. The interior was beautifully decorated, giving it a classy upscale atmosphere but doubles as a pub. We were seated upstairs in the greenhouse section which is a quaint little addition to the restaurant. The waitress took a while to even realize we were seated, but no complaints on the quality of service during the rest of the meal.
We ordered the Hummus Trio appetizer to share between two people, which was more than enough. Although the menu makes it seem like three different hummus flavors, in actuality, it’s the same hummus with different toppings (seen in my attached photo). However, at the end of the day, the hummus was still delicious. The pita was the showstopper. Well-​toasted and fluffy. I definitely took more than half my share.
I opted for the Grilled Portabella Mushroom Sandwich with fries on the side. Not too many other appealing vegetarian options available. The portabella itself was cooked well and tasty but nothing worth writing home about. I didn’t love the mass amounts of cheese, so I peeled that sucker off before I spike up my cholesterol. I LOVED the multi-​grain bread (seriously, where can I get a loaf of this stuff??). HOWEVER, there was wayyy too much garlic aioli that I could barely even hold the sandwich because the bottom bread was soaked. It is a crime to do that to such amazing bread, Clyde!
I would give this place 3 stars. Decent food, very generous portions, beautiful décor, and most importantly, they leave the water pitcher (…or is it a watering can?) at the table.

Sadly I have to give this Clyde’s a less than pleasing review. I came with my boyfriend on a Sunday. We waited outside the bar by what appeared to be a host stand. A server was there, his back to us, putting one plate of food onto another. As he walked by he noticed us, but didn’t say anything.
A young woman approached and we asked her for a table for two and she said «Oh, you have to go upstairs.» There is no sign present or any indication that to be seated, you have to go upstairs. Strike one…
We were seated in the greenhouse area, which was nicely decorated. Our server came by and informed us that he was relatively new. Not a problem, we said.
It only became a problem when I had to ask to have my drink refilled twice, and the feta cheese in my boyfriend’s omelet was practically nonexistent. By the time we were able to wave down our server (which we hate doing, but we were wondering he was oblivious or just forgetful) so he could get some more feta as it was like a teaspoon’s worth in a giant omelet, his food was cold. He did come back about five minutes later with a small bowl with more feta, but at that point, they should have offered to make a new one, with more feta cheese. C’mon, really?!
And then we were charged for the feta…
My boyfriend’s been to nearly every iteration of Clyde’s and he said this was the most disappointing experience he’s had at any of them, and at a restaurant, period.
Seriously. Disappointed. I am only giving two stars because my own food was decent and for the atmosphere.

I love Clyde. I always go at Clyde in Georgetown, Rockville, Alexandria and even here. This review is more for the horrible service is always present here. Location is perfect, the food is so good and the theming of the restaurant is just outstanding. Since i finish work late Clyde’s Gallery Place is my first choice for our late night dinner and drink.
BUT… in my last 3 visit the service is awful. I’m working in the restaurant business and i always make order very quick and very accurate with no mess everything like often guest does. And all time my Blue moon arrive with no orange, the coke arrive with ice even if we ask whit no ice. Friday night we were served from 3 different server, no one introduce whit us, a girls got order, and no one check after with us, was impossible order a drink again, servers was fighting behind our table about tips and table and a lot of table was left dirty and behind our table in the server station was really a mess with plate everywhere. and no one take care of us. Our server a girl just disappear and after 1 hours someone come to bring us a check. And that horrible service is usually every time i go. so bad because i love that place. But all the experience is ruined but really bad service and not even a manager around to talk about. I always leave 20% tips and i did to since i work in the business but is really frustrating leave tips to someone just don’t take care at all of us .
Maybe we will start to consider to go somewhere else.

Service can be spotty here but the food is always consistent. Downstairs has two bar areas and upstairs is the main dining area.
The menu often changes but one of their staples is the salmon salad. The salad itself changes fairly often but the salmon is always cooked perfectly medium with a wonderful crust.
Great location, right next door to the Verizon center and near a ton of bars and restaurants.

Clyde’s of Gallery Place is a fun little spot (restaurant and bar) to frequent that’s within walking distance of the Verizon Center.
I’d been to Clyde’s before a long time ago and can remember it actually being better than than my more present visit. Clyde’s wasn’t my first choice after the Knicks vs. Wizards game, but considering that it was raining and my feet, in my oh-​so-​cute, new heels didn’t want to walk too far, Clyde’s was a perfect runner-​up.
For a party of 4 we were seated immediately upstairs. Our waitress was so bubbly and the meals came out pretty quickly. I ordered the single crab cake with warm slaw and a side of fries. The fries went to my greedy friend. Lol.
The food was pretty good. No complaints there. I’d give Clyde’s another stop or two, but considering I don’t frequent DC alot, I try and visit a new establishment on each occasion. Still a nice spot for a quick bite or drink.

Clyde’s is a pretty solid choice for anyone visiting Chinatown. We’ve been here several times for brunch and lunch. The décor inside is perfectly old school. Nice big bars with brass railings. The paintings on the wall are a perfect fit for an establishment in DC.
For brunch we split the omelette/​breakfast potatoes and an order of French toast. Deeeeeeelicious French toast! Clyde’s uses the perfect sized bread. Not the small sliced bread and not the gargantuan sized Texas toast. Perfectly golden brown with just the right amount of flavor in the mix. Order this meal.
The omelette contained roasted broccoli, ham, and cheddar cheese. The ingredients mixed beautifully to give me that eye roll ‘mmmmmmm’ moment. Order this too.
We’ve also split the house roasted turkey sandwich (with fruit) as well. The sandwich is humongous! Plenty of turkey and bacon for the meat lovers. The multi-​grain toast was pretty hard and beat up the inside of my mouth a bit. Would like to see a softer bread used. Other than the minor pain from the bread the sandwich was tasty and more than enough food for two people to split.
We’ll be back for more…

I stopped here to eat for lunch. Sat outside on the deck– very relaxing after the hustle & bustle of the city. A lot of seafood options, burgers, etc. Attentive wait staff. Would definitely go back

Clydes twice in a week!!! Hell yeah! I came here for both lunch and happy hour so I’ll divide my review into two and hope I don’t end up with an essay.
Lunch:
I just started working in the area and my coworkers and I decided we wanted to venture out for food. There are so many options in Chinatown but alas we decided to go to Clydes. I wasn’t sure if we needed reservations but regardless we just walked in. Fortunately for us we were seated right away but I could tell that if we had arrived 15 minutes later maybe we would have needed to wait for a bit. Our server was very nice. She told us about the chef special of the day and then gave us a few minutes while we all decided what we wanted to get. I appreciate that she gave us just the right amount of time instead of coming back ²⁄₃ times asking if we were ready. I ended up ordering the Gallery Place Burger which has crispy pork belly, Asian bbq sauce, house made kimchi, and scallions. When I first saw this on the menu it caught my eye but I was a little reluctant to order it. BBQ sauce and kimchi?!? I love asian cuisine but this combo had me thinking twice before I decided leggo I’ll get this. Long story short this burger was delicious! The combo of all of these ingredients was surprisingly incredible. I will definitely venture out here for lunch or dinner again!
Happy Hour:
A friend and I decided we wanted to do happy hour in Chinatown and because we were both starving we wanted to eat an actual meal instead of just eating chips and salsa or ordering a whole bunch of little plates in order to get full. So what did we decide? Clydes of course. Before getting there I was trying to check online to see if Clydes had any HH specials. Unfortunately, I couldn’t really find a menu but I still went due to my great experience a couple of days before. My friend arrived 10 min before I did and she told me she had gotten two seats for us at the bar. When I walked in this place was packed!!! There were so many people and although I had heard Clydes was one of the places to be for HH I didn’t actually believe it until I walked in. Families eating at booths, young (and not so young) professionals grabbing a few drinks (or more) after work, and people coming in to drink and eat before the basketball game at the Verizon Center. After finding my friend and settling down I was told that Clydes did indeed have a few specials for HH yay! I ordered a mango margarita and I was not disappointed (had a little more alks than usual). We also ordered wings and calamari. For $ 10 bucks you get some amazing wings that are just the right size. I’ve seen some pretty sad wings that after finishing them I’m still hungry haha but this was definitely not the occasion here. Furthermore, the bartender was a really nice dude who definitely knew how to handle the huge crowd of people. The environment was great. It was the perfect place to just unwind and chill with friends and colleagues.

Amazing! I’ve been to this Clyde’s location a few times and have realized it deserves 5 stars for sure. It’s consistently perfect. I’ve visited for my graduation dinner, dinners out with friends, and most recently for a late night dinner with my fiancé after we went to a Muse concert at the Verizon Center (right next to the restaurant).
My fiancé ordered a burger and I ordered the salmon salad. I thought my salad was perfect. I loved the toppings and the amazing lemon vinaigrette dressing it came with. The salmon was also perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Very amazing.
Service was great, as always. And we loved the beautiful décor. Classy place, and consistently so! I’ll certainly be back again, as it’s one of the best restaurants in DC’s Chinatown!

Damnit, Clyde’s. I love you more & more every time I visit.

So I was exploring DC and I was hungry! I came across this place because someone advised me that it was good food. Well, I guess it relieved me of my hunger, but it’s not something to go back to Texas to rave about.
So the atmosphere is old school school Cheers type of vibe? I can’t really explain it. Or like 1940’s Jazz house? It was definitely different. I ordered the fried green tomatoes for an app, an heirloom salad for my entrée, and a crème brûlée (français accent on fleek) for dessert.
Fried green tomatoes–
They were actually turning into red tomatoes and had this awful corn relish on top. Just plain nasty.
Heirloom salad–
Good. Medium sized salad with soft cheese and tomatoes paired with a balsamic
Crème brûlée–
Bloody awful. This is my favorite dessert when I go out and i was so disappointed that it wasn’t appetizing. It was burnt on top. Also, they didn’t pair it with any fresh fruit! That should be a crime! I asked for fresh strawberries and was told that they are not in season? What? A restaurant with no fruit. Okay. The server tried to compensate with a few slices of unripened peaches that he found somewhere. Lol. He tried. lol
Service was good. He sensed that I wasn’t really enjoying my meal and tried to be understanding. I can’t remember his name. But he was blonde with a pretty smile.

Sunday night in the city and oddly for the two of us, we didn’t have any specific cravings. Walking by Clyde’s, we thought, why not? Haven’t been here in a long time and they have a pretty good variety.
We were seated in a booth in the bar area, which was sure hopping! The Gentleman that served us did a fine job.
Husband had the French Dip that comes with swiss cheese and roasted red onion. He said it was pretty good and so were the fries. Did say it had a LOT of onion in it and the au jus was fairly unmemorable. I chose the Brick Chicken. I don’t often order chicken in a restaurant, as it can be ordinary, but this sure sounded good: all natural semi-​boneless half chicken, farro, roasted butternut squash, spinach, grilled scallion vinaigrette. And I’m happy to report it was even better than it sounded! The chicken itself was super moist and full of flavor. Loved the veggies and the farro. Nothing ordinary about it at all!
Price-​wise, not bad. $ 16.95 for the chicken and $ 11.95 for the sandwich. I had a decent glass of wine also. We were both too full for dessert.

It’s been 4 years since I’ve ate at Clydes. The décor is the same, but the menu has changed. It’s a lot shorter (was previously a big book, now a 3 page pamphlet) with a short selection of apps, entrees, salads and burgers.
This time around, I ordered the nachos appetizer (big enough for 2) and the trout entrée drizzled in hollandaise sauce. Which, we’re both tasty but nothing I couldn’t experience anywhere else.
I think Clydes has become the hot spot for its several bars and all week (even Sunday) happy hours.
Go here for drinks & a burger, not a fancy feast.

I went here around 4 with a friend. Its a really big restaurant with tons of seating. Happy hour is in the bar only and they have a bar area downstairs and upstairs.
Took a while for the bartender to give us menus, even though there were only 4 other people at the bar. Food also took a very long time to come out despite the restaurant being empty.
We ordered a dozen of 3 different types of oysters. The oysters were ok, kind of small and didn’t leave me thinking WOW that was good! But during for a little bit more than $ 1 per oyster, I couldn’t complain.
We also ordered the calamari and crab claws. The calamari portion was a bit small and didn’t taste very fresh. The crab claws came pre cracked and were good.
We didn’t order any drinks and the bill came out to about $ 40.

Clyde’s décor is old school although I do think the lighting has gotten better in recent years. My favorite décor items in this location are the ceramic elephants, my parents were gifted with one when they were married and seeing them makes me think of my dad (ok, and the elephant table I use by the front door for keys). The elephants are upstairs in you are interested.
I went for an office lunch. I ordered the heirloom tomato salad and the crab soup. I can only comment on the salad as I never received the soup. To be fair we were 10 strong with several loud conversations in action and might have overwhelmed the waiter. My soup seemed to be the only thing missed.
I thought the heirloom tomato salad was good and pretty. Several folks recommended and got for themselves the sesame crusted tuna, it might be worth adding to the things to try list if you are visiting. One person got the portabello sandwich and thought it was well done. And, of course, there was one crab cake order which was also enjoyed. The other person who ordered the crab soup said I didn’t miss anything.
After not getting soup I decided to get a dessert and went with the health bar cheesecake. It was good and is certainly enough to share. I was thankful I was able to persuade a couple of samplings. Folks who tried it agreed it was a good.
It was OK. Not someplace I would go out of my way to visit again but if someone wanted to visited I would not be opposed although I might suggest some other options.

Clyde propose une très large sélection de plats typiquement américains dans un beau cadre tout aussi américain.
Le restaurant est gigantesque mais il parvient à garder une «certaine» intimité grâce à des coins plus intimes et une lumière tamisée.
La nourriture est franchement pas mal par rapport à la moyenne des restaurants américains traditionnels mais je n’irai pas jusqu’à 4 étoiles non plus.
Une petite mention pour le Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding qui était une véritable tuerie.
