Cargill Claire P DDS

I have been coming to Dr. Cargill’s practice for almost 5 years. The office has always been welcoming and, unlike my previous DC dentists, I didn’t feel like a wallet with legs– she and her staff genuinely care about the patients. I admit I’m a bit spoiled– I grew up getting dental care from a family friend, so I’m used to very personal and attentive service for even my most basic dental care and check-​ups. I finally found the same kind of atmosphere in DC at Dr. Cargill’s office.
Sadly, I recently learned that she passed away at the end of June. I saw one of the new dentists working out of her office today, and I’m thrilled that Dr. Cargill’s legacy of excellent dental care, warmth and friendliness is continuing within the practice. I intend on remaining a patient at this office as long as I live on Capitol Hill.

Dr. Cargill is competent and friendly but difficult to get a hold of. I had to call several times and leave messages (during business hours!) to finally get a response for my husband’s cleaning and filling. Although I clearly stated while making the appointment that my husband needed both a cleaning and some sort of repair work, when he actually went for the visit, they said they only had time to do one of the two. After putting in the filling, they were ready to send my husband away, and he had to explain to them that — despite his numb mouth — he could tell the filling had a very sharp spike still on it. He was surprised with the experience — in his original home in Ukraine, he had always had much better experiences. After that, I have tried again to set up an appointment for a cleaning but to no avail. I’ll be looking for another neighborhood dentist.

It has taken me a realllly long time to find a dentist that I really like. I require good customer service and good dental work. Dr. Cargill does both. She’s very friendly and I really hope she takes my new insurance.
The only downside is that her secretary and dental assistant are one in the same. She needs more help in the office.

I love that her office is walking distance from the metro. The office looks like a regular row house so it’s cute and quaint. Her assistant is always pleasant. Dr. Cargill herself is just as sweet. I’ve gone for a cleaning and have had two 15+ year old fillings redone by her.

Great dentist I went to for four years who I will miss since I’ve moved away. She and her lovely assistant even mailed my xrays to my new dentist. If you’re looking for a nice and gentle, but good dentist, Dr. Cargill is your doctor.

Dr. Cargill has a gentle hand, a pleasant demeanor, and definitely doesn’t make you feel like you’re part of a revolving wheel of patients. In my experience, larger, glossier dental clinics don’t feel as personal. Dr. Cargill has done all my cleanings, which seems unusual — no dental hygienist on any of the three occasions. It’s not a fancy place, but it’s comfortable. In some ways, it seems very ‘country doctor’ — a paper scheduling book, with a doctor who performs most of the primary care. There is appeal in that. Prices are reasonable, even for the non-​insured. Trustworthy, efficient, pleasant experience all around.

I told myself I wouldn’t review doctors or dentists, but my experience at Dr. Cargill’s office has always been great.
I’ve visited her for routine cleanings and recently for bonding work, which requires numbing and drilling. Fun stuff! Dr. Cargill is the most gentle dentist I’ve been to since I was a kid. She also tells you prices and insurance breakdowns up front, so no surprises when it’s time to pay.
It’s nice to have a dentist I trust, just a few blocks from home. Plus, her staff of one, is funny and approachable and always kindly reminds me of my appointments.
