Chicken was bland, waffle was chewy and flavorless, Mac and cheese… bland, and the fries were soggy. The lady who took my order looked angry, and miserable. Horrible experience.

I’ve worked with the owner’s of Capital Chicken & Waffles as a vendor. They are the most accommodating, courteous, and professional, individuals that I’ve had the pleasure of working with! Very responsive to any questions or requests that I had of them, and incredibly patient. You can judge a lot about a business from not just the way that they treat their customers but also how they treat their vendors and business partners, and on that scale they are a 10 out of 10! I have zero doubt that their food is absolutely the best in DC and I can’t wait to try them out myself!

While I would have given CC&W one star the first few times(despite the friendly staff), after my last visit I am giving them three stars. Chicken & Waffles have three components — Fried Chicken(or Fried Chicken Fingers), Waffles, and Maple Syrup. Why one star originally? FAIL: The chicken fingers that they originally had were below average. They would be edible as an appetizer at a happy hour, but not something to go out of your way for. FAIL: The waffles were not even Eggo quality. They were soggy and pretty small at that. FAIL: The syrup was the cheap stuff that you get at the supermarket… the kind that is just corn syrup and food coloring. Why three stars now? SUCCESS: The chicken fingers now are very high quality chicken with tasty breading… not as good, but similar to Astro. FAIL: The waffles are the same as before… soggy and/or under-cooked. It really wouldn’t take much effort or expense to improve this. MEH: While the syrup is the same, you are now able to put on as much as you want. Even with the improvements, for the price you pay, there really should be more food or, preferably, better quality food. A tip though, should you get one of the Chicken and Waffle plates, if you get some BBQ sauce, you will be able to enjoy the fingers separately and then the waffles as a dessert! Come on CC&W, you are on the up swing… so let’s go for the gold!

I stopped at this food truck at Farragut Park and boy was I displeased. I ordered the meal combo just to receive 2 chicken wings Mac and cheese and sweet potatoes from Sundays dinner. Today is Wednesday. I will now dispute the charges of $ 12 with my bank because I would never pay for the garbage I just received! I should have checked my food before I walked away! So disappointed.

Today was my first time visiting the Capital Chicken and Waffles food truck. For $ 8.00 I received 3 wingettes and a handful of fries… WTH? The chicken was moderately seasoned and the fries were the best part of the meal. But honestly, 3 wingettes is more like a snack not a meal. My co-worker ordered the chicken/waffle combo and even through they claim to prepare the items as you order, oddly enough her chicken(3 wingettes) were cold. Overall, we were both disappointed with portion size for the cost.

The original combo really hit the spot for lunch. Relatively quick and easy for just having to walk outside of work.

First and last trip to CC&Ws. After ordering my food, Meal Combo $ 10.91, he swipes my card and says that’ll be $ 14.00(after my card was swiped). I asked why and he said there was an upcharge for«sweet tea» and taxes. I said whatever and went about my business. That was the first incident. After ordering my food, it took about 30 – 45 minutes to actually get my food. Problem #2. My food finally comes and I open it up. $ 14.00 for 3 little chicken strips and a half waffle. Really? I get a HALF waffle for double the price as the chicken and waffle combo to add 2 little sides? Then I grab the syrup to pour over my meal and of course its all sticky and guess what — they have no napkins. Now I have to walk back to the office with sticky hands. Ask for a bag to carry my garbage and they don’t have any. Finally I got my homemade sweet tea and — the dude pours it from a Turkey Hill jug. Wow — thank you for the $ 1+ upcharge from water/soda for a 12 ounce glass(mainly filled with ice) of Turkey Hill lemon tea… wasn’t even the sweet version, lol. It’s quite comical what a show this food truck it, but I have faith that my meal will at least be good and worth the $ 14.00. Back at my office, I choke down the burnt over cooked chicken and undercooked soggy half of a waffle and think — boy did I get screwed. I make better waffles at continental breakfast when I stay at hotels for free than this joke. Will never go back. You may have taken my $ 14, but you will never get another penny. Good luck.

A great college friend of mine recommended this truck after he tried it at a wine festival a few months ago. I have been following its Twitter for a week or two now waiting for it to return to my work area in DC. It finally came today, so I rushed over there! From what I have observed, I can only access it easily 1 – 3 times a month. I walked to its location around 1:00 and there was luckily no line. The cooks were very polite, and I ordered the Boat Combo(½ a waffle, some wings or strips on top) and their banana pudding. I was told I had to wait for the wings, and I had no worries about that. The wait about 5 minutes longer than the rest of my party, but when it was ready, I noticed I received a regular sized tray instead of the boat tray. That leads me to believe they gave me extra to compensate for the wait. I CAN’T COMPLAINABOUTTHAT! They had a wide array of sauces to pour at your leisure, so I got some syrup and was on my merry way. When I got back to the office, I noticed that the waffle wasn’t one of the fluffiest ones I had(it was one of the thinner ones) but it was still done for sure… and combined with the chicken, ITWASAMAZING! Their chicken is especially notable with an excellent flavor. I really can’t say much more about the combo aside from greatness. As for the banana pudding, I felt like I was down south. I was quite pleased. The 1 – 3 times that it’s in my work area, I will be taking advantage. Only catch is that I won’t know when they’re around until the morning of. Their locations don’t really run on a set schedule from what I’ve noticed.

Good food but the time it takes to prepare the food is ridiculously slow. A 25 min wait when there’s not even a line and 2 ppl in working is not acceptable. I saw 2 or 3 other ppl had to also wait 15 to 25 min. Hopefully there was some rare mixup and that wait time is not normal at all. Throw in not offering knives in addition to forks for ppl eating chicken and waffles and I’m just disappointed. I root for biz like this so plz do better

Let me start by saying I love the chicken strip and waffle boat. It’s a good size and the chicken has always been really good. The waffle is on the soft/not all the way done side, but tolerable to me. I have given this truck about 3 tries. The last being yesterday at truckeroo. So the actual wait time to order was about 15 – 20 min. Then the wait time to get food was about 30 – 40 min. Unprecedented. The can of hard cider I had must have made me stupid and patient because I’m in awe of how long I waited. So I got the chicken waffle boat and my BF got the hot chicken wings. Now the only thing that really makes anyone nowadays wait that long for food is if they know it’s going to über fresh and hot or if their mom is just making thanksgiving dinner. So convincing ourselves that this chicken and waffle would be the greatest of our lives we waited, and waited, and waited. My boat was piping hot and my bfs chicken wings were cold. Unbelievable. He’s kind of a hot head so he told the guy who handed it to us that they were cold, the guy was about to take them back and he said no. Then after taking another bite and realizing he really didn’t want to eat them, he left them on the counter for the lady taking the orders to see them. Talk about disappointing. In my 2 previous visits I had noticed but did not nitpick about the disarray that the truck and staff seemed to be in. Using a food service glove to handle food and then take money, and the food/cooking items strewn about in the back. This place needs to get it together. They have decent food but the business practice and etiquette is not going to get them where they need to be.

I saw this truck at the Tangier Outlet in the National Harbor and I was excited when I saw that they offered chicken and waffles. I ordered the boat combo and I was disappointed with what I got. it wasn’t a whole Belgian waffle. The waffle was small and soggy. They handed me my food without a napkin and utensils. I had to stand around to ask for these items and come to find out they have no knives. Try eating a soggy waffle with no knife! The fried chicken wings came fresh out of the fryer. Although the wings were crispy and seasoned, they were mediocre on the flavor. I just was not impressed with this place.

A girlfriend and I decided to go to the Charles County Food and Wine Festival earlier this month to do a little catching up and wine sampling. Upon arrival we were both very hungry and noticed a woman walking by with a basket of fried chicken wings and fries that made our mouth water. We made our way to the Capital Chicken & Waffles truck and the line wasn’t long at all. After being told they weren’t accepting orders, we stepped aside to formulate a game plan. About 2 minutes later, we saw a few ladies make their way under the tent and proceed to place their order. We got back in line and placed ours as well. The young lady that took our order wasn’t the nicest, perhaps because it was scorching outside and she was pregnant; however, customer service is very important. After 10 minutes of waiting, we made our way directly in front of the pickup window so that we could hear our number being called. 5 more minutes pass by and my girlfriend’s number is called, & I knew my number wasn’t too far behind since we ordered together … WRONG! The gentleman fixing the orders asked me for my ticket so that he could fix my basket and a few minutes later I was given the wrong order. He then told me that my correct order would be coming up soon. We wait… and wait… and wait… 10 more minutes pass by and I have to ASK what happened to my order? I was told that it was«coming up,» but only AFTER I questioned why customers I knew for a fact ordered AFTER me got their food first. Once I finally received my food, I inquired about my sweet tea and the young lady behind also fixing orders and calling numbers rolled her eyes, caught an attitude and had to «consult» with the other guy .as if I had to lie about ordering a miniature cup of tea! When we sat down to eat our food, it wasn’t even all that. I’ve definitely had better fried chicken, in fact it was a bit bland to me. It definitely wasn’t worth all the time we waited for the order to be ready and the extra attitudes from the staff was unacceptable. If I hadn’t waited so long and wasn’t so hungry, I would have asked for my money back. I won’t be eating there again

Went here for the first time for lunch. It was pretty tasty. I got the classic combo which comes with a full size waffle and maybe 5 chicken strips for $ 10. The waffle was a waffle. It was good but nothing too special. The fried chicken is where it’s at.

Pretty good. I saw them near the Navy Yard today for the first time. Had their classic Chicken and Waffles for $ 10(includes 10% DC tax). Plate came with one 6″ waffle in diameter and four chicken strips. The chicken strips were fresh, warm and delicious. I could have eaten four more. The waffle was good but nothing special. Came with syrup. Will satisfy your craving for chicken and waffles for sure. Nice service.

I had a sample at the Taste of DC festival. The waffle was soggy and the chicken was a bit dry without much flavor. I can’t say that I would go back.

Food Truck Day arrived with much fanfare. We all salivated as we walked through multiple layers of security to get to the food trucks that were located within a secure area that was within a secure area that was within a secure area. I looked at the lines and contemplated which faction I would join. Mexican? No. BBQ? I can get that anywhere. Ice Cream? No. Well, maybe while I’m standing in line for CHICKEN&WAFFLES! Before you say«Oh no you didn’t!» let me just preempt with«Oh yes I did with a side of Mac & Cheese!» The best part was listening to numerous people argue about how they ordered wings and received strips. The woman addressed the restless crowd over and over. «We only serve strips,» she said, «If you want wings you have to order them.» «Doesn’t that mean that you don’t only serve strips?» I asked to people adjacent to me but I was too late because those people had already thought those words quietly to themselves because they were polite and also ignoring me. As I waited for a half an hour after I ordered to receive my food I thought about how I was waiting for a half an hour for food from a truck. Then I thought about ice cream and playing video games and when I finished with that I thought about how they were calling my number and I should go get my food. I received my food and told the lady I had ordered chicken wings and not strips. When she looked at me with disappointed eyes I said, «I’m just joshin ya,» and laughed. Then I put maple syrup and hot sauce on my waffle and chicken and it was pretty good.

My husband and I was able to check out the Capital Chicken & Waffles food truck when they were at the Tanger Outlets at National Harbor, MD. They’ve been around since ’13, and they were one of the 19 food trucks chosen to serve during the Presidential Inauguration events(I thought that was pretty impressive). It’s family-owned and operated, and founded by Sharisse Barksdale. Their menu included: a Classic Combo(chicken and waffles), Boat Combo(which I had, which is the smaller version of the Classic Combo), Chicken Strips, Chicken & Fries, Wings(hot or plain flavor), Waffles, and drinks. The staff here were very friendly and sweet, and explained the menu patiently. The Boat Combo came with 4 chicken ‘strips,’ which weren’t necessarily fried chicken, but more like an oven-baked breast strips, set on top of a Long John-looking Belgian waffle, dusted with powdered sugar. I was a little disappointed that the chicken wasn’t fried, but it was still flavorful and good, especially with the hot sauce. The ‘waffle/donut’ was also good, not overly sweet, and good with the side of maple syrup that I requested. +food truck +‘waffle/donut’ was tasty

CHICKENANDWAFFLES! Heck yes… absolutely! Gimme Gimme Gimme! Kimmy Gibler! So, I go up and am trying to get a taste of this shiz. After all, I just had visited another food truck and gotten a full meal #Glutton. Ok, so there is a little chicken and waffle combo for like 5.50. Deal! There’s about like 10 sauces on the front ledge you get to choose from. Get the hot sauce — that’s delish — the honey mustard is great too. So, what about the waffles and chicken. I have to say… they were just mediocre. The waffles were a little not-so-fresh tasting. The chicken was decent but nothing special. Good drunk food? Yes Good authentic chicken and waffle street food??? MEH

Another odd concept for a food truck but seeing as how they have everything possible nowadays in food trucks, why not chicken and waffles too. Service was great, the staff were friendly and even knocked a bug or something off my shirt while I was ordering. Food was hit and miss for me. The chicken was really good. The chicken was moist and flavorful, nice breading, very good portion size, for the most part the chicken was on point. The waffle on the other hand was a little underwhelming. Waffle was very dry even though it was thin. The flavor wasn’t horrible but because of the density it was hard to enjoy. One thing that they could add that would be great is little plastic cups. They have a variety of syrups and sauces but unfortunately no containers to put them in unless you want to put it on your entire plate. I don’t really want honey mustard sauce touching my waffle, so it is hard to put the syrups on sauces in your container without the food mixing, so investing in some little plastic containers could really help Capital Chicken and Waffles. Decent product, I could see myself returning one day if it returns to an area I am in.
