Prices are cheap and it’s in a convenient location, one block from DuPont metro. Got the pad thai takeout and it was just okay. A little heavy on the fish sauce, so it stank up the room I was in. Their check-in offer is for a free Thai tea, but the server said it didn’t apply to take-outs. No where does it say«dine-in only».

Very tasty food. You can tell their food is made with love. I’ve tried a variety of dishes and have loved all of them. Service also very good. Pleasant relaxed atmosphere and cheap wine during happy hour add to the pleasant experiences I have while dining here.

Moving to DC from Berkeley, it’s hard to find anything to match the inexpensive but great Asian food in Berkeley, but Bua comes pretty close. The dishes are consistently delicious, and the service is second-to-none in speed and courtesy. Seriously, I’ve never been anywhere with faster service. The atmosphere is only so-so, but the food and service make up for it.

Pad thai would get 5 stars, curries get 3. I’d recommend more of their grilled dishes. We ordered delivery, it was quick and timely.

Bua Thai Cuisine is a nice Thai restaurant perfect for lunch. We sat upstairs outside and it was great. Bua Duck(Boneless roasted duck sautéed with broccoli and tomato in red curry sauce) — A duck dish that is only $ 8.50?! Wow! It was quite good, too, and they were able to make it not spicy. Recommended! Padthai — Hard to go wrong with Padthai at a Thai restaurant, and their version was solid and only $ 8! Recommended! Thai iced tea with bubbles — Delicious! Recommended!

Chose this place because it was a close walk from my hotel — The décor isn’t where you would choose to go for an important business dinner of romantic night(why I only rated 3 *) but ! The food is as authentic as you’ll get, the staff were very attentive and service was good. I had the shrimp & Chicken Pad Thai along with the green curry, both excellent . Singha beer washed it all down nicely !

On Saturday evening we went here in a group of 8. I think I saw only about 5 other people in the restaurant. I think that the huge restaurant scene on 14th street has drawn many people who used to eat here, in the restaurant in the adjoining building(now vacant), and around the corner on 17th Street. Some other reviewer claims that this place is over priced or the portions small. Well, I think it is the best value around this area. We both had the house salad($ 4) which had a tasty peanut dressing and was a reasonable size and good even though it had iceberg lettuce. I had the Bua Duck($ 11.95) which is boneless roast duck sauteed with broccoli in a spicy red curry sauce. It was a decent size and quite tasty. My husband had the Ped Krob($ 12.95) which is boneless crispy duck in a chili and garlic sauce. That was especially good. We also had a nice bottle of a Pinot Grigio which at $ 26 is a much better price than other restaurants even though you can probably get that wine for $ 9 or less in a store. It’s just ridiculous the pricing of alcohol in restaurants! The noise level is low partly because there were so few people. I’m glad they put our group in the rear room on the upper floor so that the rather boisterous people in our group were separated from the other diners.

I came here with my meetup group for a Sunday lunch. It was pretty empty – my guess is that most people do brunch rather than lunch on Sundays. Anyway, the staff was friendly and approachable. I got the Thai iced tea which was really good and some of the people from the meetup got veggie dumplings and spring rolls for appetizers. For my entrée, I got the Bua duck which is supposed to be spicy but it wasn’t spicy to me; it was however, salty. Someone from the group said that was their favorite thing to get but that she makes sure that they don’t make it too spicy. I asked for the full spiciness, but it just wasn’t there. I love spicy food(I guess it’s the Caribbean in me!).I can only imagine what it would taste like if I’d asked them to turn down the spice. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. Their prices are reasonable for lunch(never came for dinner) but I think I need to try some other Thai restaurant before returning to Bua Thai.

I’m going to have to go for a 3. It wasn’t bad at all, but it wasn’t off-the-charts exceptional either. It missed that«BANG!» reaction you have with Thai food at its best. Had the steamed veggie dumplings, which were serviceable, and a egg noodle/duck soup. Duck pieces were great, but the rest is what you could get at your middle-of-road ramen/soup shop(and look at the rating I’m giving here?!) Fellow diner felt her salad/soup portions were a little on the skimpy side, relative to other places, though this seemed to differ from dish to dish.(Mine OK.) Décor is nice bi-level style and open exposed brick wall is a cool touch, and staff is super chill and polite. I feel kind of bad not being able to give a higher rating, but you come here for the«Keepin’ it 100» seal of approval.

Good Thai place with delightful wait staff and quick serving. We came in a group of 5 for lunch and enjoyed dining here. The place is spacious with a lower and a upper floor. The upper floor had balcony seating — a nice touch on a good day. I ordered their mixed vegetables with red sauce that is served with jasmine rice. I went with the«normal» level of spice and found it at the right level for Thai cuisine. Some in the group found even the mild spice level too hot — so temper it a bit, if you cannot handle the heat. Veggies were on the fresher side and cooked well. A final note on the serving size. Many in the group ordered dinner size entrees but I went with the regular lunch portion. I must admit that I did not find that much of a difference between the two sizes and they both appeared a bit on the smaller side. So order side or an extra dish, if you are more than mildly hungry!

5 stars for the amazing service here. The staff was incredibly friendly! The food was also good, and a wonderful value. $ 10 for a large pad Thai in DC!

I really struggled with my rating for Bua Thai. I would say it’s more of a 3.5. Pros — While it will not be the BEST thai food you’ve ever had(I’m looking at you Thai X-ing), it is definitely a good thai option when you’re having a craving, and in the general vicinity. The restaurant is spacious, spanning two floors. The patio is also a lovely touch, especially when the weather is nice, and great for people watching. Facilities were clean and well kept. Service was great — my water glass was always filled, and the waiter was always nearby and available without hovering. Cons — a touch too expensive for average Thai food; e.g. our crispy flounder was $ 36. Tip — check in on Unilocal to claim a free Thai Iced Tea! :)

I recently came here with my mom, who was visiting from out of town, along with local family friends. The veggie pad see ew was actually very good. However, my piña colada was not sweet and had way too much rum. I know the amount of alcohol is a personal preference and I just happen to like my cocktails sweet. Also, service left something to be desired. Everyone in our party got served at the same time but me. I was the last to get my food. Really? I’m sure pad see ew is NOT hard to make. While Bua isn’t the worst of thai restaurants, I would not go out of my way to come here.

I’ve been coming here for years and never really thought much about it. I always thought this was just an average Thai restaurant in a sea of other average to above average Thai places in DC. However, the food quality has gone up. It’s been consistently good and that’s why I keep coming back. The portions were pretty good and the service is very attentive. Their happy hour deals are also AMAZING!

A very cute place on P street! We enjoyed our meal on the balcony outside. Good place for dating! Very good service and the food came faaaaaast. We ordered their special coconut punch and coconut juice. They were amazing. The pad Thai with peanut crush is also good. The sour Thai sauce grilled fish filet is very tender and fresh too. the fried rice comes with more meat than you think.

Delicious food, friendly staff in a casual atmosphere. My daughter and I ordered tofu green curry and special fried rice with shrimp. It was close by to our hotel so we decided to give it a try. We enjoyed it!

I’ve ordered the same meal three days in a row. Ka Pow with beef and chicken and spring rolls and sticky rice with mango for dessert and wash it all down with their Thai sweet tea. Did I mention I’ve ordered this three days in a row? Love this place. Delivery takes a while but it’s worth the wait.

I’m fairly certain I got food poisoning from eating at Bua Thai, so that automatically docks a few stars in my review. Within half an hour of finishing my meal at the restaurant, I felt sicker than I’d felt in a long time(thankfully I didn’t throw up, but the rest is TMI for a Unilocal review). That being said, the service here was good. They were friendly, prompt about seating my friend and I, and also great about accommodating her because she doesn’t eat meat. I ordered the shrimp pad thai and thought it was tasty and good, even if my stomach subsequently disagreed. The portion was fine and the price was fine. Nothing that really stands out from the myriad of other Thai restaurants in the DC area, but if it were not for the food poisoning experience, I’d have given this restaurant 3 stars.

The Pad Gai is great, I really like the drunken noodles, the curries are good… I haven’t had Pad Thai yet but I just feel like that’s an unfair assessment of Thai restaurants and I’ll never find anything as good as the place I grew up on which served exclusively Pad Thai. The service is always friendly and fast and on nice days the patio or upstairs area is a great place for happy hour or dinner… even romantic lighting in the evening. I say this all after having spent 4 months in SE Asia so I’m no expert but I do know what I’m talking about to some degree.
