First and foremost, I’m still new enough to DC that I don’t know how bars work sometimes, which made my experience here new and amusing. Turns out, there are TONS of board games here, and I mean A LOT. Though it’s not technically a «board» game, my friends and I met up here on a casual Sunday and played Cards Against Humanity(who doesn’t love a good game of that). They also have risky Jenga(with a dare on the blocks) and a whole bunch of other games. There’s also plenty of beer to choose from, and though I’m not a huge beer drinker(actually, I really hate beer), the pitchers were pretty cheap. And if you’ve got the munchies, they have some take-out menus and have food delivered to the bar! AND you can get a discount since a lot of the places are around DuPont.

One of my favorites hands down. Best place to hangout with friends, grab a few well made, reasonably priced drinks and play some games. They have sports on, they have board games and they have some arcade games. Not sure what else I would ask for.

Such a fun environment! Came here for a friends birthday. Didn’t want to go clubbing or anything but definitely wanted to spend it in a place where we could actually hear each other. Bartender was a bit rude but it’s okay cause she could make a good drink. Definitely recommend their«Mrs. Peacock» drink! Super girlfy and yummy.

The Board Room is an interesting concept that fails to live up to its potential. I recently went there this week to meet up with some friends and play board games, but we left due to excessive noise and a lack of space. Pros –They have a great selection of board games. –Interior looks nice. –Good service. Cons — It is too loud: This would not be a big deal for a normal bar, but the main draw of this place is the board games, and the noise level makes it difficult to enjoy them. A critical part of playing board games is having fun with your friends, and that is difficult when you can’t hear them speak. — Lack of space: The bar gets crowed to the point where there isn’t enough space to actually play a board game. — No food: Having to get food delivered isn’t convenient, and there are plenty of nearby bars that sell food. If you are looking for a traditional bar, there are plenty of better options in the area. If you want to play board games and drink, you are better off playing at home or buying your own games and taking them to a bar.

I LOVE this place! I reserved a spot there last night for my bday gathering! The process to reserve a spot was super(easy). When I got there a sign was posted«Reserved for Kelley» I got there, set-up, and enjoyed playing taboo with friends! Everything was sooo fun! It was my guests first time and everyone kept saying how cool the spot was. The staff before and during the event was AMAZING! Very friendly! I spoke to Rich via email on several occasions and went by before securing the spot to check it out. He was really great in showing me around and letting me know how welcomed my party was. The concept of the bar is great and that is why I chose it! Go visit with friends and enjoy a nice outing!

What an interesting twist to your traditional bar. You come here, rent a board game for a small fee($ 2), grab a beer and have a good time. I’ve been here a few times now after a friend has recommended it. It’s very different than your normal bar crowd. People are much more relaxed here. You typically see large group of friends playing board games and being merry. They don’t serve food but you can bring your own food. I’ve noticed that most people end up bringing pizzas from the pizza place close to Board Room. Flipping Pizza is the name of the pizza joint near to it. The place gets packed fast on the weekend. If you are there after 9PM, there’s a high chance that it’s standing room only and you will have to wait to get a table. A table is necessary of course since you will be playing some sort of board game. The service was as expected, there’s a short wait for drinks on the weekend when it’s busy but on a weekday it’s typically fast. Some of the games have missing pieces on them so make sure you check and have it changed before you go back to the table or else you will have to navigate the crowd to change it. The game rentals are right on the front door so you can pick them up on your way in. You should probably only do so if it’s a slow night since you might not get a table on a busy night.

Fun place to grab a drink & play board games with friends not just a few board games but a whole closet full including jenga, othello, connect 4, battleships, etc wasn’t a fan of the drink i ordered. a moscow mule with tequila instead of vodka. The bartender used a flat ginger beer so it was pretty gross 2 stories but even by 9 pm on a saturday night there was no space for us to sit except standing room near the bar NOTE: you can bring in your own food or get pizza delivered to our table!

Nice place to stay a child, and have a drink while your doing it. Came here with some friends, and had an awesome time. The place had a nice feel to it. To play a game you get a charge, but you can order food and bring in any kind of food since they do not serve food. There is parking on the street right in front. I believe it is free after 6:30pm. I can not remember the time but I know that it is around there if not that. You know how I am about parking, so I took one off for having to look for a space. You have to get there early to get one close by. Check this place out!!!

Loved this place. They have beer and board games, basically the two most important things in life. Plenty of beers on tap to choose from. This is a good spot for a chill night to hang with friends.

I went here for my birthday and had an amazing time. It gets really crowded and almost impossible to fond seating on the weekends. You also have to pay $ 1 for each board game you want to play. The drinks were strong and tasty, the atmosphere was light hearted and fun. I’d definitely go back.

So… I am only recently discovering this whole bars-that-have-board-games deal so I don’t have a great frame of reference; however, to me this place seems like a fantastic way to spend any night of the week. Since bringing your own game is free, we brought one and then rented another one for just 2 $(bananagrams — that shit is addictive) and they have a nice big cabinet of games to choose from. The bartenders were all very friendly and happy to take care of you, even during a busy happy hour. And the happy hour is busy for a reason. I could tell this place has some serious regulars that love both the specials and the servers. Also, it was an easy place to make friends, for all those lonely hearts out there in DC.

We came here as part of the Mojito March; of all the bars, it served the largest of the mojitos(they had a blackberry and a traditional, though we were only disappointingly offered the latter). My friend felt it was too sweet, so she ordered a gin and tonic. It looked liked a fun place to play boardgames or Cards Against the Humanity(saw several of those going on).

Board Room is great if you’re looking to play actual games(Clue, Jenga, Cards Against Humanity, etc.). Otherwise, go to one of the many other bars in Dupont. The 2 level bar is narrow and has beers on tap, with an extremely casual, mellow, divey vibe. For groups who want to spend an evening with board games and beer this might be the right choice(although personally I feel like if that’s what you want to do, why not just go to a friend’s house and play?). Note: THEYDONOTSERVEFOOD. This was annoying when I came with a group recently. However, they do allow you to order food from nearby establishments for delivery to the front door. The nearby Thaiphoon restaurant and Flippin’ Pizza next door delivered to our hungry group while we were there.

Fun bar with a great game selection, but not enough seating and some games are missing pieces. Its such a great concept though. If they were less busy we would have enjoyed it much more. The drinks are fairly typical, they dont do mint drinks, and standard bar prices. We did appreciate that our drinks were well made. Our bartender was super friendly as well.

Cool idea, nice place, and chill vibe. The only thing I’m not a fan of is paying $ 2 per game rental. To quote Magic!, «Why you gotta be so… ruUUuuuUUde?»

The first time I was ever proposed to was at this bar. By a stranger. Playing dirty jenga. While it was not quite what I pictured of a proposal, the situation made for a great few laughs.(In case you’re wondering, I said no.) In all honesty, that’s what you can expect from this bar: a genuinely good time. If you’re not familiar, this is a bar that allows you to rent board games, while throwing back a beer and munching on food from your favorite restaurant. Unlike the one or two other bars in the area that offer board games, the two words that come to my mind when I think of Board Room are«fun» and«flexible.» Despite their admirable collection of available board games for rent at a reasonable price, they will allow you to bring in your own games without any hassle. So, if you don’t want to spend the $ 2 to rent Apples to Apples because you already own it, feel free to bring your own and save the money for part of your tip! This bar also does a good job of having a variety of tables to allow groups of various sizes to play board games. Regardless of whether you sit upstairs or downstairs, you can still play games and find a bar on your level. Feel free to grab a drink and, if you don’t have cash, put the games on your tab! Now, depending on the day you go, the place may or may not be packed. On the busier nights, make sure to send someone early to reserve a table for the group. This is a place that is frequented by large groups and, on busier nights, the tables will fill up quickly. Honestly, my main criticism is that I wish there was more space for patrons to play. It should be noted that this is not a bar that you go to for dancing.(In all honesty, I probably wouldn’t come here exclusively for the drinks either.) Dancing is nonexistent at this bar and – despite the full bar available – I typically find the mixed drinks to be only mediocre. This is a bar where you play video games and drink(ideally beer). Although the bar does not have a kitchen, they will allow you to bring in outside food. They’ll even allow you to have another restaurant deliver your food to the bar! This means that you can enjoy your favorite food for a cheaper price, while drinking and playing board games. A slight inconvenience, but definitely worth it in the end in my opinion. Overall, this place feels authentic to me. It doesn’t feel like a place that’s trying to be cool by offering all of these gimmicks. IT seems like a place where someone decided they wanted a place where they could play games and drink. It is someplace where I know I can go and always have a good time. Isn’t that what you want in a bar? The ambiance is great, but I must give it 4 stars due to the seating issue and the fact that I wish their mixed drinks were a little better.

From the name & décor alone, once you step into Board Room DC you know what you’re getting yourself into! For me personally, a bar that is solely devoted to board games and drinks is definitely quite unique. There’s no cover charge for this bar and it’s not necessarily«the place» to go to if you’re trying to get your groove on, but you’re able to spend time with your friends & rent out board games, what’s not to love? They have a wide variety of board games that you can choose to rent for ~$ 2! And what’s more rad is that the games range from those that you may have not even seen in ages and some that you see(and love to play, might I add) with a few drinks in hand. The main bar is on the first floor and there’s a smaller bar upstairs(that may or may not be open, so you might have to make a trip downstairs for a drink). The only tidbit that may be bothersome for you is that they do not serve food, BUT you’re in DC and there’s food all around you! Brownie Points, the pizza joint a few doors down(Flippin’ Pizza) gives you a pretty awesome discount on your order if you’re a customer of Board Room. I give Board Room DC4 Stars for uniqueness and ambiance alone, but I’ll have to say that during peak hours it’s extremely hard to find a table and since the whole point of going to this bar is to spend time with your friends and actually play board games… and you know sit with them with a table without awkwardly trying to stand and play Connect Four, Settlers of Catan, Cards Against Humanity etc. So if you’re not trying to go to Board Room on weekdays or non-peak hours then I’d suggest that you come a little earlier than you were planning to grab a table or vulture for one! Overall though? For a chill vibe to hangout with some friends, c’mon and why don’t you head on over to Board Room DC! The concept’s great, the board game selection’s present, and it’s a feel good atmosphere well-equipped and fully stocked with fun and alcohol — let your inner child run rampant!

Great concept, I’m a fan. Game rentals are $ 2 each, and there’s a very good variety. Although most of the games I’ve played are lacking in paper and pencil supply, so bring your own. Drinks run you $ 7 – 10. A little pricey, but they have beer pitchers too. Definitely get here early. The majority of the upstairs is usually reserved, but you can sit there until the group comes. I got there on a Friday night at 7 once and snagged the last table available.

My boyfriend and I decided to visit Board Room yesterday to spend a few hours before our dinner reservation in DuPont. The bar has such a cool concept — board games and drinks! :D. Pros: –Awesome game selection, even for just 2 players. We ended up going with Scattergories and had lots of fun: D. And the games are just $ 2 to «rent» /take to your table to play. –Decently priced drinks — I got a vodka cran and house wine and my bf got some beer. –Nice seating area — we found a rather large table and had lots of fun and felt really comfortable. They have an upstairs seating area too. –They’re open during the day too. I believe they open around noon. Some of the cons: –They took forever to get our drinks and were more attentive to other patrons when my bf was trying to get us drinks. –They skimped on my glass of house wine. Def less than a usual glass you order at a typical bar. –The Board games can have lots of missing components. For instance, our Scattergories was missing extra writing implements, dice(we used a random letter generator on my bf’s phone instead to improvise), and broken time keeper. You can improvise sometimes, but it still sucks that you’re paying $ 2 for incomplete games. Overall, great concept and a fun time! I definitely recommend it, especially since it’s so close to a lot of other bars and restaurants in DuPont Circle.
