Bardo

This place is a dive. .it was dead at 7 PM on a Saturday night. Two other parties there. They brew outside and there is a large outside seating area with a bar and corn hole, but since it was January, it was too cold for any of that. Had the brown ale; nothing special. Probably would not make the trip to this neighborhood again just to visit this place.

Bardo is where the cool kids hang out.
I biked past this gem on my way to the National Arboretum on a beautiful sunny day. We were on a time crunch, so I couldn’t stay, but I immediately added Bardo to my Unilocal Bookmarks page.
Bardo is an indoor and outdoor chill-​out spot that serves a cool variety of beer on tap. The atmosphere is relaxing and unpretentious. The furniture and décor is slightly worn out, but it adds to Bardo’s rustic charm. You’ll notice groups playing corn-​hole. You’ll notice the giant skull made of beer cans out front. It really is a piece of work. You’ll also notice the number of DC beer tours that roll into the establishment. When I was there, three separate beer tours came.
Tip: I highly suggest coming to Bardo’s when the sun is shining. Sitting outside is a must.
The people are friendly, and the beer is good. Bardo’s is my jam.

You cannot hipster harder than this. Grab a dog, some tight pants, thick glasses, and have a great evening with quality craft brews. No frills and not exactly heel friendly. Great place! Just make sure you have socialized dogs as the regulars are not shy and no one is going to let you claim any special territory. I agree with Catrina that they could increase their clientele with some cider.

Aaaaamazing place! Great beer. Great atmosphere. Be sure to check the inside portion, which some miss. They have a piano for impromptu karaōke singalongs ha.
It’s kind of in a weird area so I recommend Lyfting there and back, or biking.

Does the dog sleep on the couch? I dared my wife to sit on it, the couch not the dog.
She is allergic to dust and dogs and all the critters that feed on them.
This place has it in spades.

Bardo is such a great concept! A dog park combined with a brewery, outdoor games and a junkyard vibe, makes this place one of a kind – especially for status and image obsessed dc. Bardo reminds me of somewhere you would find in a small country town where all your neighbors would hang out.
My only complaint is that there is generally no gluten free option (I.e. Cider). Otherwise I would probably be there every Saturday and Sunday with my dog!

Love this place! It’s like going to a party in someone’s backyard and you can bring you dog. Beer is super good and the prices are great. Not much more fun than spending a Sunday afternoon here with a beer and your dog. I’ve even seen people bring pizza!

Imagine a giant adult industrial playground with free cornhole, picnic tables, and beers. That’s basically what you have at Bardo. You will definitely be thrown off a little because you’ll suddenly see the fenced off area while driving down not the prettiest part of Bladensburg Road (but since when was this H Street /​Bladensburg area ever very nice?). It will be yuppie and hipster central at this beer garden.
Really cool place with some quite interesting beers (dirt cheap for D.C. at $ 15 a pitcher). I like the brown dark ale — which tasted more like a stout or a Newcastle. Most of the beers tend to be on the hoppy end or interesting sours — they do not have any wheat beers. In the winter, they move into the indoor bar area that has a bunch of picnic tables and a piano. Really enjoyed this place. If they had food and some different beers, I would be more of a regular. Until then, I’ll come here once in a while to satisfy my cornhole cravings.

Bardo is a low-​maintenance, good for big groups, outdoors-​when-​the-​weather-​is-​at-​least-​decent, everyone-​brings-​his/​her-​dog, corn-​hole-​playing beer garden. The beer is OK. The bartenders are OK. The ambience is casual and chill — lots of seating areas. The tables are pretty old with tops dented in. Neat that you can bring your own food. And you will need an ID to check out bean bags for cornhole.

Bring yer dog. Whole lot’s fenced in, so it’s like a dog park where you can drink good beer.

Cool place. Only place I know where you can bring a dog and let it run off leash while having an oat soda. Not cheap, but for a small business like this I have no problem paying a buck more for a pint. They don’t serve food but ask for some delivery menus from the bartender and you’ll be good.

Went here for the first time this Saturday and regardless of the heat I was pretty impressed with the uniqueness and atmosphere. The outdoor setting is extremely interesting — unique sculptures, pet friendly, BBQ tent, and corn hole. I really liked the outdoor beer garden with the brew operation all outdoors. On to the beers, they were all pretty good. I prefer the hoppy IPA’s, but I did enjoy their whole selection. The Marionberry Lambic was very interesting and flavorful. I wish I would have had the Smoked and Oaked Bacon IPA and Bacon Porter. Everything is better with Bacon!!! Now I have an excuse to get back out there.

Awesome place to go and be outside. My only gripe would be the lack of umbrellas/​shade because it’s just too damn hot to be under the sun but then again, that’s just me adjusting to DC. :/
Beers are $ 6 pints and $ 15 pitchers. Definitely very bike and dog friendly. Corn hole available. I’m sure you can bring a bocce ball set or something too if you come with a group. Would be a fun place to go with a big group– bring your own food!

This is my new favorite spot to meet up with friends on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon when the weather is nice. It is laid back, out of the way, not too crowded, and all around a great time. What’s not to like?
–Plenty of corn hole. Plenty of picnic tables. Plenty of space.
–Dogs are welcome.
–Bring your own food. We grabbed some bao and banh mi from Maketto on the way over.
–$ 15 pitchers of their beer. As my brother put it: the beer is good, maybe not great. I really liked the Gruit, which was just slightly sour, but I didn’t love some of the other beers we tried. But it’s better than what is served on a lot of overcrowded, overpriced patios in DC.
There is also some indoor space, which we only found in search of the bathrooms, but Bardo’s strong suit is definitely the big, open outdoor space for lounging around with friends and beer.

Well priced beers, tons of seating and adorable dogs, what’s not to love. There isn’t any food, so bring your own, but choose wisely. Last time we brought BBQ brisket sandwiches and our table became the center of the universe for like 10 dogs. Totally ok by me… but I’m a crazy dog lover. If you want to eat in peace, bring something a little less meaty and delicious.

I went on Saturday for the first time since the warm weather started and they seem to be doing really well! It was packed for a good chunk of the afternoon but with so much space, people had plenty of room to spread out (unlike a certain beer garden in Shaw…).
Pitchers have gone up from $ 11 to $ 15 since my original review but that’s really all there is to update. i was a little bummed but $ 15 for good beer is still a steal in this city and the beer is as good as ever. This is far and away the best beer garden in D.C.

The beer is so-​so to not bad, but the beer garden-​esque space is awesome, and the pricing is great. My frisbee team and I recently stopped by after a game in anacostia, and we had a fabulous time. Corn hole, dogs, cheap beer… What more could one ask for on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the district?
I’m interested to see how the place fares when it becomes colder and whether they’re able to implement a $ 20 all you can drink Thursday special.
Also, if you’re interested in IPAs, the Dremo’s not bad. It’s got a bit more depth than the Zeus, a thinner beer which was more hop-​forward with little other flavor.

Love this place! I love how relaxed it is– sometimes I just wanna be outside, and in DC it can be tough. But here they have a huge yard, tons of picnic tables, corn hole, etc. The crowd is pretty varied, but people have SUCH CUTE DOGS! The inside part is pretty cute too and I’d love to come back in the winter. Specifically on a Thursday for the $ 20 all-​you-​can-​drink deal :)
Losing a star only for location, which I realize isn’t entirely fair because if it were more convenient it would lose it’s character, but still.

As it stands now… Not much is standing, but I will be back to see how things go once they start brewing their own beer which they got approval to do so 7/​/​21/​2014. I haven’t quite figured out how they are going to get away with brewing in those containers outside… Without climate control and well cleanliness but I want to find out!
The building just passed health inspection but I’m betting it hasn’t passed building code, you can tell everything has been done on the cheap, transparent plastic for walls? For counters outside, for everything. Lol just really strange. It’s a super junkyard that could prolly benefit so good ol fashioned TLC and elbow grease, it could be sooo much better but it isn’t awful and it’s got my attention. 3 stars for now… You gotta earn the rest of them with good beer and food and well a lil more cleanup organization too.
It’s definitely neighborhood style… Haha, it matches it’s surroundings for sure.

I went here last Saturday around 5 and it was already lively. Their microbrews are really awesome, and only $ 4! I tried two of their IPAs. The place had a great laid back vibe. You can get food delivered here too.

I was driving by on Bladensburg Road and I saw this flash of silver. I turned around and realized it must have been the new beer garden I’ve heard about in Trinidad. We pulled around, parked down a side street, and entered this wonderful adult boozy playground. They don’t have their licenses to brew yet, so for now they had others’ beer on tap, but still a good selection. They have a bunch of sack toss games set up and there are many, many picnic tables to sit at. The bartender was super chill and the crowd was eclectic, but not in a hipster way (they haven’t found the place yet?), I mean there were grandpa’s and wholesome couples and kids and outcasts and cool cats and friends and everyone mingling here. Adjacent is a neighborhood bike repair clinic, which is awesome.
