Hes a pretty nice and experienced doctor. I think he’s the lowest in the area. I’ve heard a lot about him which made me go to see him. He’s pretty knowledgeable in answering your questions. I’d definately refer him to anyone.

To schedule took about two months. Came in to remove some skin tags and asked the doctor if I could remove them myself. I guess what I wanted to ask was, were there home remedies to remove. The good doctor spoke to me in a condescending and rude tone that I didn’t feel like asking him anything else. It was also difficult to understand him. His own Secretary has to ask him to repeat. Prior to the procedure, I had to get a local anesthesia and he said, «little prick». When he inserted the needle, it actually hurt and I’m not sure if he made it hurt a little extra to continue his condescending tone. I was in and out of the office in maybe 30 –40 minutes. I’m glad it’s over. It was a doctor referral and I will be going elsewhere if I need a dermatologist. I’m giving a 2.5 star but closer to the 2.

Yes, reviews are correct about length of time for appointment, but Dr. Flood’s experience is worth the wait. Dr. Flood is an experience doctor with a dedicated team.
This office offers many treatments that other dermatologist will outsource.

Yes, the office building is old and the front office staff is very busy but I have always found them to be pleasant and efficient. Do not come to Dr. Flood if you want your hand held and the newest magazines in the wall. But, if you want a solution to a skin problem, he is your man. Personally, I love the variety of patients he sees. I think it’s a large part of the reason that he is as good as he is– he must have seen it all by now.
After spending the last 15 years trying to find some solution to my teenage and then adult acne to no avail I walked into Dr. Flood’s in the midst of a horrible breakout, so bad that I walked around with my hair covering my face. Dr. Flood was his usual efficient self. He looked at my skin, explained what was causing my action and then wrote me a prescription for a very specific antibiotic. Within 24 hours the swelling and angry red of the acne was subsiding and within a week it was clear and my skin has been clear for years now. My nieces and nephews with the same type of acne have now benefitted from the information I got from Dr. Flood. I can’t recommend him highly enough.

I had ONE great consultation here. The only reason for the 2 stars is because Dr Flood Sr. And Jr. Were great and he prescribed me retin-​a which cleared my acne up, however his ghetto ugly receptionists were so rude and nasty to me I will never return again. I came with a referral from my primary care doctor. met with the Flood duo. got my prescription. then proceeded to the front to schedule my next appt and the ugly receptionist huffed and puffed at my referral and tossed it back at me saying my referral wasn’t filled out correctly. OK. I’m not a doctor… I wasn’t the one who filled it out… However I asked her politely how I could resolve it and she pretty much told me my referral was trash and that I would have to go back to my doctor for a new one. I asked if she could simply call my doc office and get a new one faxed in. she paused then got out her chair and whispered to another staff member who looked at my referral then looked at me as if she was sizing me up… rolled her eyes… then she laughed in my face and said it was MY responsibility to provide a proper referral. Until Allen Flood decides to hire non lazy spiteful nasty ghetto women to be the first face of his business, I will never return again. Such a shame.

No nonsense, but no problem!
I am completely in love with Dr. Flood. I had my first appointment with him today. He’s located in Eastern Market near Le Pain Quotidien in a building that I think was a movie theater. Yes, it took a long time to get an appointment, yes there were a lot of folks in the waiting room, Yes the building/​office isn’t brand new. But so what?
I arrived early, prepared for a long wait, but he was early… that’s right EARLY! I pre-​gamed my appointment by typing up a list of problems, medications/​creams, and we clicked through them like a well-​oiled machine. He was nice, efficient, and showed concern. He had his office send scripts to my pharmacy electronically… no nonsense, no fuss!
Only downside was the front office staff wasn’t as efficient as they could be (the check in lady forgot me and had to be reminded to have me fill out forms as I was a new patient) and one young lady had a terrible cough. Made me a little nervous. I was in and out and back at my desk in NoMa in under and hour and will definitely be back.

UPDATING this review after a third visit:
After continued issues with their billing department, I no longer recommend this business. They have not been able to properly bill my insurance, despite multiple phone calls to them and to my insurance to try to fix the issues. For instance, they initially filed my claim with the wrong insurance company, and now have assigned wrong diagnostic codes. Combined with the rushed experiences in the last few times, I won’t return.
UPDATED review:
I’ve now gone to three visits at Dr. Flood’s office. My first two appointments, I found Dr. Flood to be very efficient, yet friendly.
This time, he came into the room 40 minutes after my appointment time. He declared my issue completely cleared up, without but a cursory glance (at the wrong foot!) He decided I should switch to a less effective form of treatment, without discussing pros and cons with me — I had to press him for the details on what he wanted to prescribe and why.

This might have been the quickest, most efficient doctor’s visit of my life! It was my first visit. Yes the other reviewers were correct about the length of time it takes to get an appt. I likely called in May for today’s appt.
Now Dr. Flood’s bedside manner might leave a lot to be desired from patients who require a lot of empathy. However, if you’re the kind of patient who just wants answers in black and white with no excuses or fancy language no one without a medical degree can decipher, this is for you. You get the impression that Dr. Flood knows what he’s doing, has been doing it for years and would like to get home as soon as possible. Hey… works for me.
The location is perfect for me because I can walk over but if you don’t live in the neighborhood, Metro is perfect. The Eastern Market stop is across the street.
It’s worth the wait. No fluff, just good medical treatment. I’m glad I exercised patience because I’ll be back.

Thee Dr. Flood, I have been seeing him for about eight years now.
First things first, located in Capitol Hill, on Penn Ave., as you may know, parking is just thee pits, so take the subway. I always do. Blue line Eastern market, one block from the station, easy peasy. The only way you MAY be able to find parking is a Saturday…
Now, thee Dr. Flood, upon our initial meet up, I couldn’t stand him, he was just so short during our interactions. Funny thing is, as soon as he realized that my ENTIRE family saw him, and I told him who my father was he softened up, his tone is less harsh. I think he is on his way out, as now his son frequently is with him during his appointments.
The good: Aside from his attitude at times, Dr. Flood is awesome, he has helped me with any and all skin conditions that I have had. His approach is aggressive, and my skin couldn’t be happier. He is the reason I will drive over 1.5 hours in traffic to see him. He understands AA skin, and isn’t afraid to give you a prescription.
The Bad: His office staff, oh, they can be a bit how should I phrase this… rude. I have no idea why, but it is common. However, I have learned that if they are rude, or whatever to you, give it right back through what I like to call a polite shut down, all it takes is one time, and they will never bother you again.
The Ugly: Oh you wanted to see him this week, maybe this month? Fahgettaboudit! As a regular, my average wait time is about two months. If you are new, chile bye. Your wait could be three months minimum! The best thing you can do is call and HOPE that someone cancels, which rarely happens. He doesn’t generally give emergency appointments unless you get your PCP involved.

Absolutely not. I was a patient of Dr. Flood’s for over a year; during that time I ignored the generally unaccommodating staff and the complete absence of a bedside manner because I read the other reviews calling him «effective» and «conveniently located» and told myself that I could live with the drawbacks.
However, last week, I was having a severe allergic skin reaction that was both very painful and also ON MY FACE. I called the office to see if there was any way the Dr. could see me that week and was told by his staff that that was «impossible» and that the soonest appointment was 3 weeks out (to say nothing of her rude and dismissive attitude for the duration of the call).
I don’t know about you, but I have no wish to patronize a doctor who cannot make any sort of special dispensation for a patient with a medical issue needing rapid treatment. I’d prefer a doctor who actually has some sort of interest in my overall health and well being, a concept clearly foreign to Dr. Flood and his staff.

Dr. Flood, I hope you read this. There are many reasons I will no longer be a patient of your practice. Here are a few highlights: 1. You are rude. The manner in which you spoke to me during my office visits was condescending, you talked over me, you rushed me, and you poo-​poohed my concerns. Try speaking to people like that up in Chevy Chase and see how long you stay in business. Shame on you for subjecting the less fortunate to disrespectful treatment. 2. You provide incomplete information. You never told me a diagnosis for any of the issues I am facing. You did not tell me which prescriptions to use on which areas of my body, nor did the instructions that came on the medications. You did not tell me to stop any of my existing facial products until I came back to show you burn marks on my skin caused by your products mixing with mine, at which point you rudely said: «You weren’t supposed to be using anything else on your face.» Too late! You also should have told me what was in the injections you were putting in my scalp. These are very basic pieces of information that any competent doctor should provide to his or her patients. 3. The treatments you gave me didn’t work. Who has time to deal with your nonsense over 3 visits and still have the exact same symptoms?! Never coming back. Ever.

Dr Flood has never struck me as «time is money.» He always takes the time to listen and heal. He truly is good at what he does and will consider costs when prescribing meds. But rushed he is and rushed he will always be, so come prepared to tell him exactly what you need. Once he gets you on a regiment that works, get your family physician to prescribe the meds. His staff is lacking and he does overbook and you will be forced to wait at least an hour. Also, it is a difficult area to find parking, although the Potomac and Eastern metro station is nearby. Dr Flood’s results are worth any inconvenience.

the staff is somewhat ghettofab and rude yes. expect to wait because he overbooks. expect to wait months for an appointment. expect to be in and out once your called back because Dr Flood lives by the «time is money» creed.
expect extraordinary results!!! definitely the best dermatologist I’ve ever been to for my acne and dark spots.

Good dermatologist. Any doctor that takes DC’s Open Enrollment plan is basically doing a community service, and this is the only dermatologist that I could find with decent reviews under that plan. His waiting room staff is courteous enough and I think they deal with a looooooooot of customers, but they schedule in a way that you have to wait for an hour. So you’ll have to wait. Once I got in to se the Dr, he was extremely brief and to the point, probably because there were 15 ppl in the waiting room. I get the feeling this is the normal state of affairs. But I was fine with that. He made quick assessments on each of the issues I brought up, and I think was reasonable and kind and exercising good judgment, while being very to the point. He doesnt mince words. I think he is a good dermatologist and asked the right questions. He was helpful and courteous but not into chit chat. Dont expect a flowery conversation, expect to get your dermatological problem assessed and addressed quickly. He performed a small procedure and did a good job. I’d trust him with more work.

I have been going to Dr. Flood for over 20yrs… I never want to see another dermatologist ever! Just wondering what to do when he retires???

I went to see Dr Flood last Thursday. Like the other reviewers have said it took me almost a month just to even get an appointment. Dr Flood’s office is located right off the Eastern Market Metro Station. It’s in I guess a «medical facility» that is almost diagonal to the metro. The office is okay, real basic– a few magazines, some free samples, and one of the heath alert tvs. The staff was okay not really friendly but not rude either. Lots of people waiting with me– my wait time was about 50 mins, Say Whattt?!
So it’s finally my turn and after reading the reviews since this is my first visit, I am ready for Dr Flood trying to rush me. SO what I do is make a note in my phone of the problems I’m there for. While we didn’t spend 15 mins together– more like 5mins uggg *eyes rolling* I feel like my needs were met. He wrote me some prescriptions and gave me some coupons (which saved me $ 15 ooohh yea babee!). I will be doing a follow up when I see him again in 6 weeks!

I love this guy .He helped my skin issue and was so down to earth. Very practical and caring. He is busy so you will wait but could be worth it.

I went in and saw Dr. Flood today for the first time. I had to wait about a month for the appointment. The administrative staff were friendly and helpful. I had a 10:30 appointment but didn’t see the doctor until almost 11:30. He was working like a madman. The waiting room was full and he must have seen fifteen patients while I was there.
Not much for bedside manner – he wants to get you in and out. I’m not a big fan of that. I don’t like feeling like my doctor isn’t going to take his time to answer my questions. He was literally walking out the door while he was still telling me what to do for home treatment. Overall, though, Dr. Flood was a nice guy and took care of what I needed him to do.
One other note: not the cleanest office, even in the examination rooms. He seemed to be working on his own without any nursing staff. It’s not like there were syringes lying around, but there were definitely some empty bottles of stuff lying around the sink in my exam room.
