Oh so cute! This farmers’ market shuts down a small smattering of streets for some local low-key shopping. It has a couple places to park your bike, but feel free to walk or drive if you must. Since there are about 10 – 12 vendors selling coffee, bread, olive oil, chai/curry, vegetables, fruits and a few other items, bring bags and strong arms/back to carry it all if you walk. The apples and green veggies, tomatoes and peppers are my favorites, but apple cider and peaches are also awesome! It’s a seasonal offering, so visit early and late in the open months to enjoy the bounty that these local farms and food creators bring! There is also an atm for those who wish to pay by cash. However, many vendors accept credit cards, so just ask. If you seek curry from the Indonesian(I could be wrong, but pretty sure that’s the genre of cuisine) lists all the ingredients for their food. Those with special dietary needs will be happy to know that there appears to be NO dairy in their food! Coconut milk chai! Pretty much every food item that is veg is vegan! Snack appetizers, curry kale/tofu and rice– delish. Love this little market on Colorado between 14th St, Kennedy and Longfellow!

We’re newer residents to the neighborhood and my husband and I are really excited to have this farmers’ market so close. The first Saturday I went, it was dreary and rainy and not very many vendors(farmers?) were set up but I went back again on a sunny day(7⁄11) and it was a much better turnout, hearty looking fruits and veggies, a coffee stand, and even a bakery selling delicious breads and pastries! Some notes and observations: –A few of the farmers are a bit aloof. I don’t know if that’s general farmers’ market culture or what but some of my greetings and questions were met with blank-ish stares. Not all because some of the vendors were very friendly and personable. –The crowd is very clique-ish. If you don’t have a dog or a kid in a stroller, don’t look to go here to get to know your neighbors. –Unfortunately, I don’t think the market’s proprietors have done a great job of getting the word out to ALL of the residents of the surrounding streets because the crowd just doesn’t match the demographic of the neighborhood. I don’t want to be critical without offering a solution so perhaps in addition to the online notifications(PoPville, Facebook, etc) which attracts the younger demographic, more street signage and posters in some of the older buildings(not just the new condos/apts) would bring in the older crowd who may not be connected to the web. In order to be truly harmonious and sustainable, I think it’s important that the new revitalizing efforts coming to the Kennedy St corridor work extra hard to be inclusive of everyone.

Lovely new farmers market at, you guessed it, the corner of 14th& Kennedy St NW on Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm. They have mostly organic but some conventional farmers too if you want less expensive produce. They have vendors that sell fresh vegetables, fruit, a butcher, a baker with yummy pastries, Zeke’s coffee(yum!), and a plant and flower nursery. And they’re looking for feedback from the community to continue to grow their vendor list. And best of all, you get a chance to gather and catch up with your neighbors on a warm Saturday morning. So happy this came to the neighborhood!
