100 Montaditos

I am not one to write bad reviews, but service was so incredibly disrespectful at 100 Montadito’s this weekend that we did not even eat there.
We arrived early on a Saturday to make sure we could eat right around 11am to make it on time for the noon Nationals game. As 11am came and went, we stood by the door waiting to be let inside. A young girl comes to the front of the restaurant, and begins shouting through the glass that they were understaffed. I replied, «Ok, so when will you open?» She rudely points to the door «WE OPEN AT 11.» It’s after 11, so I asked what the plan was then. She stormed off, never to return or acknowledge.
Since this attitude doesn’t seem to be worth waiting for, we took our appetites elsewhere, and I suggest you do the same.

If you look at my original review, it was nothing but positive. I truly love their food. However, I felt the need to document how I was treated when I showed up at 100 Montaditos over the weekend. As advertised on Unilocal,on their website, and on their door, 100 Montaditos opens at 11:00am on Saturdays. I was bringing my dad to a Nats game to celebrate Father’s Day early, and we had plans to go to 100 Montaditos beforehand, specifically because I had brought him last year and he LOVED it and was VERY excited about going again.
We showed up around 10:55, so we patiently waited outside and could see a waitress putting chairs down inside. Ten minutes later, so 11:05, we walk up to the door and it’s locked, so we assume they just need a little more time (I could see three staff members inside) and we waited near the door. Eventually, a young female staff member walks up to the door and starts aggressively speaking through the glass. I could not make out what she was saying because of the glass, and did not get why she couldn’t open the door to tell me what the situation was. I think she was saying something about being understaffed (as the multiple staff members inside looked on… ok I get it that I don’t know how many people it takes to run a restaurant but my dad, sister and I were the only ones waiting), but I still do not understand her rude demeanor or why she could not open the door to explain that they were not opening on time. When I tried to ask when they would be opening instead, she just walked away from the door. I have brought countless friends and family members here and constantly rave about this place, so being disrespected like this was very embarrassing, especially in front of my dad on our Father’s Day.
I took my dad to Agua301 (a block closer to the water), and we were treated fabulously and the food was great. Plenty of staff members to go around and no talking through glass! Get the guac!

Wednesdays are the best times to come. (well it represents the best value for your money). you are probably better off ordering ahead (give yourself at least 15 – 20 minutes).

This is the perfect place to come before a Nationals Game… especially on Wednesdays!!! Make sure to get the classic sangria and a variety of sandwiches! You won’t regret it.

First visit last visit. The service was the worst. The place was litter with trash on tables and floors. Waited an hour for three nasty sandwiches. Should have gone to Subway.

Like so many other reviews about this place, I am going to talk about the horrendous service. I am not going to talk about the food, we didn’t even get to that part.
My husband, a friend of mine and myself walk into this place and study the menus for 10 min. Once we’ve picked what we want, we go to the register to place our order. There is no one in line before us, nor after us. But the lady at the register does not even look up to acknowledge us. After 5 min of that awkward situation, she says «5 min please», takes a step back, and starts texting on her phone. Over 5 min pass.
In the meantime, people sitting at the bar next to us inquire about their order. They have been sitting there for an hour, and it turns out, their order has not been placed to the kitchen yet. The same lady does not apologize or seen in a hurry to fix it. She still has not talked to us at that point, and we just decide to walk out.

I’ve been here twice for happy hour. The first time, I was impressed by the cheap wine (Rioja, one of my favorites!) and little sandwiches (Montaditos), and it was pretty good. The second, we got appetizers and they were all pretty terrible. So definitely stick to the namesake menu items and you’ll be fine. It’s a great location to sit outside and watch people at the end of a workday.

Pass this place during the summer and there is always a line full of people. You would think this places serves the best sandwiches in town.
Finally… 26March2016 I get in and try this place. Ordered the meat lover, Spanish and chocolate collection. That’s about 15 mini sandwiches for about 30 bucks.
The sandwiches were fine. Nothing spectacular… and still left hungry… admittedly avoided eating all the bread.
The place is fine… but not worth the wait. For 30 bucks u can get full meals else where.

The service gets worse each time I come. Very rude and dismissive cashiers and waiters. You have to search for a clean table to sit and eat because they take so long.
And sadly, the food is slipping below average as well. Twice now our Montaditos bread was cold and stale. Our calamari and fries were so overcooked I didn’t even touch the rest and the sangria is so subtle it’s like drinking a watery cider.
100 Montaditos used to be one of my DC favorites but now I’d rather pass.

Came here with 3 of my coworkers and I order the combo on the back of the menus. I picked 3 kinds of sandwiches and chose meatball, garlic pork and I forgot the other one. It same with fries and a foundation drink. First of all, we were greeted by a miserable waitress and she didn’t acknowledge that we entered through the door and we were the first ones in there. Her attitude is just bad overall and I didn’t feel like talking to her. It’s the typical you order at the counter and it gets delivered to your table. We sat outside and it was nice. We got our food and for me, it wasn’t anything special. I could’ve made a better meatball sandwich than that. There is more bread to meat ratio but the fries was really good. Also, no one came back to check up on us if we needed more refill on our drinks. I wouldn’t go back here again.

i’ll start off with the good: i basically said «wow» after every bite i took of my sandwich. it was one of the best things i have ever eaten, really.
the downside is that service takes foreverrr. the place is definitely understaffed — the same lady who was taking orders occasionally stopped what she was doing to deliver food. our sandwiches took a good 45 minutes to arrive and we ended up having to take the calamari to go.
if you’re not in a hurry, the food is incredible!

The food was pretty good. I loved the calamari (it’s fried, so that’s a given) and the sandwiches are great. The tortilla Española took me right back to my high school exchange trip. We were less impressed with the olives and meat and cheese plates, which should be easy and quick dishes to put together & send out. Which gets me to the big problem of 100 Montaditos:
The service is awful, mostly because they appeared to be severely understaffed. We went on a Saturday night when the weather was nice and there was an event in Yards Park, so it was pretty busy. There were two girls taking orders, a food runner, and two kitchen staff. We didn’t realize it when we got there, but the kitchen could not keep up with orders. They needed at least 2 more people in the back of house to survive the influx of orders.
A few problems we had:
–Our initial wine glasses were dirty– lipstick all over them!
— It took over an hour to get anything to our table. Anything includes olives. Literally the simplest thing to throw in a bowl and put on the table.
–They ran out of bowls and glasses.
–It took almost a full two hours to get our tortilla espanola. We had to ask about it several times.
–We watched several people get angry with the staff, ask for their money back, and/​or leave. I actually felt really bad for the staff. They should have called someone to get back up. They’re all going to have restaurant nightmares about this place. It really makes me question the management.
So, yeah, visit this location on an odd night and it should be fine. However, I’ll be careful not to venture in whenever Yards Park has an event or the Nats are playing. Unless they have at least 3 more staff people on the floor (1 for the bar, 1 in the kitchen, & a dishwasher), I’m going to be very cautious of this neighborhood spot.

100 disappointments is what I would say. I have never written a negative review. I have never walked out on food that I paid for — ever. Tonight, February 20, 2016, was a first.
This is a fast casual restaurant. You have to write down your order, stand on line, pay, then wait for it to be brought to you.
I had no problem with that.
The place was busy. It is Saturday night, so that is to be expected. The line was long at times, but the counter staff was managing as well as could be expected. Here’s the problem: Bad management.
First, can someone figure out a way to control the traffic? There needs to be a better system for queuing the customers. The line literally interfered with the food runner and the other diners. A very predictable accident happened because the lines were blocking the server’s path. Also, the people on line were literally in breathing distance of the food waiting to be served. Eww. A manager could have fixed that.
Second, we ordered food that never arrived. I think the kitchen was both overwhelmed and possibly disorganized. A manager could have fixed that. The food that came was an hour late and came one dish at a time. Because of the counter ordering system and the number of people on line, I would have had to wait another 10 minutes to sort out a refund. It really wasn’t worth it.
One bright spot, and I would consider trying this again if the place was empty of customers, was the montaditos. The bread is really good.
I cannot otherwise recommend this location to anyone. And, frankly, I would be reluctant to try any other location.

I tried to give this place another shot… especially because I genuinely enjoy their food. However, I stand here waiting at the register after placing an online order through Unilocal.I am waiting because the restaurant has no history of my order and there seems to be no sense of urgency to find it. If my debit card had not already been charged, I would walk out. Immediately.
Why is no one here trained on how to use the online ordering system? Why has my order not even been started? Why is this harder than it has to be? I’m just so confused and frustrated and… man. I just can’t come back again. I can’t.
To the Management: The only saving grace was Monique. She was beyond helpful and seemed to be the only one that genuinely understood the concept of serving the customer.

I found this place by accident! Just looking for some restaurants around downtown Whasintong DC.
I visited 100 montaditos in Spain at Murcia, was a great place and had good prices.
In DC we found the same environment, wich is great.
I order the clasic Serrano Ham montadito, some croquetas and Tinto de verano which is Sangria with Sprite. Reallyyyy goood!
I enjoyed every second!

100 Montaditos was a comfort food when I traveled on a budget in Spain and wanted to break away from things I had bought in a store. It was a great place to grab a beer and some tapas. The concept translates nicely in the USA but seems a little more expensive to me. Still, it is a great idea for a bite and drink.
I have tried 2 locations in the DC area. The Arlington one left me feeling like I had been shafted on the quality of food. The food was okay but not like how I remember it. This Navy Yard location has extremely good montaditos. What it lacked, though, was service when I went on a Friday night. I had to ask multiple times for various things (food, drink, knife, fork, pen to sign the bill, etc) that should have either been offered or brought automatically. Several workers stood around or flirted with young ladies. Surprised me to see this lax behavior in a place in DC.
Luckily, I was not in a hurry and didn’t mind being persistent. I tried a torta espanola, chorizo, Brie cheese, two dessert sandwiches (pic below), and a torta de Santiago. Didn’t find a thing I didn’t enjoy! I love the incredible selection of sandwiches and tapas. Each on has a distinct taste that leaves you content but makes you want another one.
The beer selection is a little small (Bud…really? next to BlueJacket??, Esterella, Devils Backbone, Victory, and Goose Island) and dominated by pilsners or IPAs. Nothing special. Sangria is pretty good — I liked the red with orange crush. No cocktails or mixed drinks from what I saw.
The location is great. Spacious enough on the inside and patio so that I might someday go back with work friends for a happy hour. It’s close to the river (which has events occasionally) and Navy Yard metro.
Management needs to figure out what it is doing. The waiters seemed to be lost. The bartender was doing everything. Food and drinks took a while to get (plates and glasses were often empty). We had an extra item on our bill. The bathroom was completely out of toilet paper. In short, totally your fault if the Navy Yard business doesn’t succeed. It is in a prime location with places that could easily substitute better service. Step up your game please. I really like the brand and want to see it stick around.

This place is awesome for happy hour or dinner, but don’t come here if you’re in a rush. A group of us came here before a concert at Nats Park. In theory, you have a giant selection of mini sandwiches that you can order as you please and enjoy with your drinks. The variety is amazing, and since each sandwich is $ 2-​$ 4, you definitely won’t be breaking the bank. In reality, we could only get 2 orders (each with 5 – 6 sandwiches) in at the bar before we had to leave because each order took about 30 minutes to arrive. The 2^nd order was so slow that we even had to pay the bill first and then rush out after we wolfed down the sandwiches for fear of missing the concert.
Also, there are happy hour specials on sangria and beer, but watch out for the sangria deal. The «$ 10 sangria pitchers during happy hour» might sound appealing, but each pitcher only fills 3 glasses. Meanwhile, an individual sangria glass is discounted to $ 2 during happy hour, so it’s actually a better deal to go with ordering the individual glass.

This is actually the 2^nd location I have been to, very different than Barcelona. This best part about 100 Montaditos is the price! There is no comparison, especially right next to the baseball stadium! Easy place for groups, they had a ton of seating inside and a bar area.
We just stopped in for a pre-​game drink, and were pleasantly filled with cheap sangria! The sandwiches are small, but easy to snack on and they are so cheap you can try multiple!
This concept is awesome, too bad it is far from my house or it would be a regular pregame spot. Definitely the cheapest place to get wine/​beer before the games. Atmosphere is sports-​bary. Ask the bartender for suggestions if you dont know what to order!

Ugh, I love this place ever since I was recommended to try it while on Madrid! It’s an awesome little tapas spot for sandwiches, and on Wednesdays it is the BEST.
My friend and I came here before the Nats game and we were delighted with the Wednesday specials: $ 1 montaditos, $ 2 beer (ML & BW) and sangria. and $ 3 premium beers. Some choices:
#82: Romerito — Meh. One piece of bacon and two little shrimpies!
#83: Vikingo — Meh.
#84 Iberico — Blah.
#87: Tirititran: Philly cheese steak… good.
#81: Hispano — Meh.
#86: Pepito — I love Brie cheese! Yum.

#91: Capresse — Good. Tastes like it sounds.
#92 Serranito — My fave… it’s all about dat brava sauce!

For the best way to end a work day or the best way to start a Nats game, come by this little spot!

Stumbled across this place while I was in Navy Yard and didn’t want the average brewery food that Blue Jacket has to offer. The bad thing about this place is that the menu is massive. Hence the name 100 Montaditos so it has 100 different items that you can get. Most are broken down into a few categories such as pork, chicken, vegetarian, beef, etc etc. They are just small sandwiches and each will run you about $ 2 or so which is a pretty decent deal. I got four sandwiches and they were all really great. I think I liked the chicken one the best which was #43. I wish I could remember everything that was on it but the menu tends to make you forget.
Great deals on sangria and the restaurant also servers beer. Service is really friendly and they even gave me an extra montaditos since one of them showed up without anything in it! Not a problem.
