Yokohama Hibachi & Sushi Japanese Fusion Cuisine

I have been here many times in the past and never thought of writing a review because I felt underwhelmed with the dishes on the dinner menu, plus hibachi creations. It also made me nervous that they were on discount sites regularly. However, I went back after a 2-​year absence, concentrated on ordering the sushi rolls and appetizers, and THIS time, I am impressed. After a disappointing experience at a local sushi place close to where I live, I finally went back to this place. Then went back 3X more after. How’s that for redemption? The sushi rolls are fat, creative, and scrumptious. The price is reasonable for the serving and presentation. You will not feel cheated. Sooo good. Try ALL of them. I do not eat any raw food but I ate 70% of what’s on the menu, on different visits, of course. Then there’s the appetizer. I ordered my staple age (dashi) tofu and it was deelish. Soft on the inside, crisp on the outside due to the delicate batter. The sushi pizza was novel and scrumptious. My personal favorites are the Golden Spider, Kimono, Helter Skelter, Yokoham and Fancy Dream rolls. I can recall their taste as I write– that good. The Pad Thai was a little too wet (figures, this is a Thai dish moonlighting in a Japanese restaurant). As for lunch, I went with a friend and the lunch combos are so affordable without sacrificing quality. We ordered the Rocky Shrimp tempura bento (highly recommended) and the Mango Shrimp and my friend and I were happy with the choices. Mixed drinks are a little pricey for my taste, though. All in all, a good sushi roll and lunch place. I might just be going there now after this review!

The food, not so great. I mean they are too expensive so I guess they are okay for the price. I hate it when the raw fish on my sushi is lukewarm. It makes me think that the chef has been playing with my fish in his hand for too long, and that’s gross and it tastes less fresh. So other than the temperature issue, sushi and rolls taste good with the rice being seasoned perfectly.
Now on to their famous hibachi. The service and showmanship of the hibachi chefs are not very entertaining. The dish comes out overly saucy that you can’t really tell what you are eating. Request them to cut down on their sauce i guess.
Will I return? Maybe, if my food companions drag me here, but probably not by my own.

Junk garbage worst sushi ever. It came out room temp, not even cool about half the size as Red Lantern. The Rainbow roll was pathetic…11 dollars for pure crap. The tuna roll and house special roll were sub par, fact is they are a few rungs below what you get at a grocery store. The rolls seemed to have been prepped the day before, definitely not made fresh or to order. As for the hibachi, the scallops smelled like ammonia and tasted very off… maybe frozen and thawed a few times, the filet was junk, to say that McDonalds has good meat is a fact in comparison to what this schlock operation uses. $ 139 dollars pissed away between the three of us. Bottom line avoid this place like the plague.

Yokohama roll is a must. And please keep the Sapporo a pouring!!! The service is also right on the money and the hibachi cooks are great entertainment.

In all fairness let me comment that I have been here many times before and had quite a good experience. The experience of interaction with the chef is the primary attraction of Japanese hibachi… the expectation of the food quality is a distant second. So when the cook comes out and quickly and methodically cooks the food with no showmanship and throws it on your plate, the restaurant has not met the expectations of the customer. Furthermore, the overlooked, over spiced food with far too much sauce was nothing short of a disaster. So, when I complained to the management expecting some reasonable explanation for this unusual inconsistency, I was shocked to be told that the cook was quite ill and probably should not have come to work that day as he was too fatigued to entertain. So, you wish to allay my disappointment in the meal by telling me that the person cooking it and handling my food was sickly and likely contagious?! Sadly, this was enough to turn me, a regular customer into a never again customer.

I thought the food was good until the food poisoning hit! I was very sick the following day. I will not be returning here.

This was our first visit and we were greeted and sat quickly — drink order was taken soon after seating and drinks were delivered in short order. The food was your standard hibachi fare and was prepared well. The three stars is more related to the grill cooking experience. This felt like we were sitting at a bar in front of an open kitchen and not a «watch me throw this shrimp up in the air and catch it in my chef coat pocket» kind of show — and isn’t that what this type of restaurant experience is all about?

Don’t really know what all the great reviews are about but I been there because of it and I find that it’s really not all people say it is.

An ok stop for Japanese food. Price is high but not out of line with most other Japanese restaurants. Often there is a Groupon available but make sure you read the fine print at the restaurant regarding Groupon restrictions. Bento boxes, fried rice, and sushi are all standard, nothing outstanding here. If not for the Groupon, other places that have sushi specials, etc. and more distinctive flavors would be a better choice.

I love this place, they are very friendly! Food is always good. Generous portions, prices are reasonable. The only small critic I can give, if they are cooking seafood, do the vegetables first. I didn’t order seafood but my vegetables had a slight fishy taste. Other than that they are great!

Very nice atmosphere. The staff was great. Very attentive. I had sushi and sashimi, deep fried ice cream and a drink called key lime pie. The price was very reasonable. I have spent more for less. I highly recommend Yokohama.

This place was great! I can’t wait to go back, my Sushi was incredible for the price I payed for it. I only stopped in quickly for a lunch special, but I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of sushi I received!

Love this place! Hibotchi is delicious, drinks are good, & always can find a groupon! this is our regular date night spot for me and my husband!

Friendly service, delicious food and a rally roomy spot. But it’s always so empty when I come here. How do they stay in business? I hope they succeed! It’s great Japanese and sushi, without the high prices!

Went here on a Thursday evening by my self, not been here in a few few years. Not a great location in a Stop & Shop Center, never see a crowd here now I know why. Just OK. I sat at the bar, no one else was at the bar, very few in the place (not good). bartender friendly and helpful. ordered a beer and sashimi. Problem… the beer was not cold… the sashimi piecies were generous but just flavorful. The bartender said fresh fish came in on Tuesday and Thursday. Prices are ok but warm beer, not the best tasting sashimi, leaves me heading back to Haruki.

I come here a few times every month. Always great food and nice staff

After having a terrible experience at Kon Asian Bistro a couple nights before (see my review) my wife and myself felt we hadn’t gotten rid of our Sushi urge, so we thought we would give Yokohama a try. The experience was great. The service was top notch, the waitress checked up on us, made sure our drinks were always full, and if we needed anything. We received our meals in the proper order. In fact, I would have been understanding if service was just ok because they were hosting a group of 50+ from China, but the staff handled everything perfectly. I deducted 1 star for the sauce they put on our hibachi, but other than that it was great.
One last thing to add, they serve the best Rainbow Roll I have ever had, and it was huge!

I went back yesterday and the waitress got our whole order WRONG. Totally put a damper on the whole evening. The soup was cold and the waitress looked miserable and was on her phone the whole time. I do not recommend coming here, save your money and go somewhere nicer.

We went with a groupon and did not do the hibachi so I can’t comment about that. However, we were seated quickly, and the service was fast and friendly. Great at keeping water glass full with ice. My friend said the bartender made a great drink.
I wish the food had lived up to the service. The pork gyoza (steamed) appetizer were all dry on the edges with a mediocre flavor. The miso soup was ok, but the salad was a bit wilted under the dressing. Also it was a mesclun mix and I prefer iceberg with the dressing.
We both got the 3 rolls special for $ 11 that included the soup and salad.
I got the shrimp tempura roll, the spicy shrimp roll and the Boston roll.
They all came out on one plate nicely presented, but they were small rolls.
The Boston roll had mayo on top — whhaatttt??? I have had 100’s of Boston rolls and never had mayo on it so be aware and ask for without if you order. It was the best of the 3 though.
The shrimp tempura roll was mediocre– shrimp was small and overcooked, so more batter than shrimp and too much eel sauce. Disappointing.
The spicy shrimp had no flavor and she told me it was just shrimp and nori and rice– but there was some dry crumbs or something in there and it made it tasteless– even with the ginger/​wasabi/​soy sauce.
My friend who rarely eats rolls liked all of hers, and she got the shrimp tempura roll and Boston roll as well.
So for me, I would not go back. It’s not good enough as there are many others around. So I’ll keep trying others in the area when I’m there.
That’s what Groupons are for, right?
