Work Out World

This is by far the worst experience I have EVER had anywhere!!! I need to emphasize that this complaint has NOTHING to do with the staff at WOW or really the facilities which I barely used. I joined Work Out World early last year and didn’t really end up using it very much so last August with my account 100% up to date I went in to cancel my membership. I sat down with the Manager (who was great), filled out paper work, sent the required email… never got an email back and thought that was strange. Three months later I look at my bank account and I am still being billed. Called the financial company and they said I never cancelled it and I owed them money from the months after I had actually cancelled the membership. I explained the scenario to them and they said I would have to get that verified by the branch because they called the branch and nobody would verify my story. They claimed a verification was all I would need. Called the branch, spoke to the same manager and she found my paper work. We called the financial company together and she told them she verified the email and that she was with me when it was sent. I thought everything was all set. Mind you within this 2 month period I was getting called from the financial company to the point of harassment. The calls finally stopped and then I received a bill of double the amount from a collection agency. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! They are swindlers, and most of them (with the exception of the manager and staff) do not care enough to consider the fact that they are harassing anyone. This is now affecting my credit score because I refuse to pay for a cancelled gym membership!!! The worst experience ever! Please don’t go near this place if you value your money or your credit score. Oh, and I need to add that I went on the Better Business Bureau website and there is complaint after complaint about the same thing!!! The worst.

Not a fan of this place. Visited this location and wow its old and equipment is outdated. Wasn’t exactly clean and not a fan of the setup. Overall I don’t like WOW or blast fitness whatever the heck they are.
Just nothing new or updated. I think if you live in this area you have better options.

I just wrote a very long, detailed review and had an issue where it did not post or save, so in short, DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM AND GET IN A CONTRACT BECAUSE THEY WILL PENALIZE YOU AND THEY WILL NOT CARE.
The use of personal trainers is a joke. They sign you up in a contract with Pro Fitness who’s customer service is absolutely terrible and will not care about you or your money. Every person I’ve talked to at the gym has had some kind of «Oh Jeeze» or «Good Luck» response when I’ve mentioned the customer service at Pro Fitness. What kind of customer service is that?
I was charged $ 551 to belong to this gym for the month of October, and I am not even in the state to use it. After multiple phone calls to Pro Fitness, they have assured me that because I chose to move out of state, that there is nothing they will do to refund my payments, and instead just kept charging me. Basically, they are penalizing me because they don’t have a gym in my new city. Every time I look at my account it seems I have a new payment from Pro Fitness and I cannot wait until the day I am done with this disgusting place.
Though it is not Work Out World that has been the main problem, it is the fact that they put me into this contract with Pro Fitness which has been the worst experience I’ve ever had with a gym.

It should be called «wow it sucks here» twice this week I’ve been here because it’s raining and twice I’ve been made to feel inferior. The first time I was told I should try lifting weights if I want to tone up. Um okay. I’m a distance runner and I cross train. Second time I was doing super sets and the trainer literally came next to me to do some new push up that looked like it would cause injury. Thanks for running my workout!!! Hmmmm… no wonder why the trainer turn over is so high and there’s never anyone working with the trainers. They have zero people skills!!!

Honestly between the equipment, the awful smell, the unclean children’s room and the financial company they use… I don’t know which is worse.

Theres a reason I dont go here any longer. Since the other reviewers already covered the odd smells, filthy equipment and generally rude staff, let me relate this horrifying story. Manager «Jen» proudly explained that in fact she had just finished assaulting a customer when I asked her to address the intimidating behavior of her staff. The black guy they just hired behind the desk looked at me with a blank stare after I asked to find my boyfriend, so I proceeded to peek around myself. When I did so he became irate and decided he was going to say «I wish Jen was here, she would fuckin…» and then didn’t finish his sentence because that’s what cowards do. I left the building and found Jen, told her about his awful attitude, and she replied «I doubt it because he just got hired.» Um, I brought an issue to your attention and you just say ‘I doubt it?’ She asked me why I spoke to him, and told her I was looking for my boyfriend. Jen then states WHILE LAUGHING that she «just got done body checking some chick out of the building for that reason.» Wtf? Then I see the new hire stomp out of the building looking ready to fight to try to confront me for talking to his manager! More than disgusted at the trailer park attitude I came into contact with thus far, I explained he must obviously feel in the wrong if he feels threatened enough to come outside. Trashy manager Jen, fresh from putting out her Newport with her orange-​skinned son, says «Oh he ain’t threatened by NOTHIN!» To which the new hire starts screaming «I AIN’T THREATENED! I AIN’T THREATENED!» A different trainer had to bring (as in physically push) him back inside! Jen says he was just doing what he was supposed to do (this gross, aggressive, bouncer-​type behavior is clearly encouraged). Up till this event the staff had always been *tolerably* trashy, now they’re just violent and using intimidation tactics instead of trying to address customer issues. Vinny, your mom’s probably the most vile wannabe tough guy «woman» I’ve ever seen, and she needs to send that new hire back to Olneyville.

A good amount of staff members seem snobby. Older equipment, the stalls seem dirty, the steam room smells and when they do clean it its a VERY strong cleaner. Personal trainers could be friendlier & easily approachable. You know what they say though, you do get what you pay for.

This place is a joke. They enforce rules for one person but for no one else. There is no such thing as a good workout with all of the drama in this place. There’s a personal trainer that has a group of ladies that act like the group from mean girls. Workers talk about the members and treat them like garbage. Going back to LA Fitness.

This WOW has so much equipment in such a small space. Not a personal favorite location.

Friendly people all around, very clean and equipment well taken care off! Yearly price is the cheapest around with the same results as other expensive gyms!

I thought I got a great deal with this gym so close to my work, but all I got was an intractable foot infection from the incredibly disgusting and dirty shower stalls. It is probably the most repulsive gym I have been to and I have been to dozens through my years as an athlete. It actually seems unsafe in areas with partially constructed areas and hanging wires/​light switches near showers. I always wondered when I’d get electrocuted when in the shower, but being thrifty I stuck it out for my year membership NEVER to return again unless hauled there under force. Even in the dressing areas, the benches are not nailed to the floor, so when you sit, it is possible to flip the bench over. The lockers are not firmly in place against the wall and the cheap locker system always seems about to topple over. This is one of the worse managed and dirty places I have ever entered. I continually wonder why and how it stays afloat as I still pass it regularly to/​from work. I have since returned to Planet FItness which is about 500% cleaner, better, safer and more enjoyable for me as a patron. It’s worth the drive!!!
PS-​not for nuthin, but is it really necessary for the female manager to wear 4 inch silver heels?

World Out World has a lot going for it. Plenty of both aerobic and anaerobic equipment including all the usual thread mills, stair climbers, ellipticals, and bikes. A nice variety of resistance machines and enough free weights so you can almost always find the exact piece of equipment you desire.
Just as importantly the equipment is always in excellent shape. If something breaks they fix it quickly so there aren’t a lot of machines sitting around just taking up space. For some reason the dumbbells only go up to 80 pounds instead of the usual 100 pounds but there are multiple sets of many of the dumbbells so you can usually work around this.
The locker rooms aren’t particularly large but large enough so I never had any problem finding a space. The four showers are usually clean and in proper working order. One of the best things about WOW is the fact that they are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is just so convenient, I don’t have to plan my workout around their schedule, I can go on my time.
There are a few annoying things. Even though they have numerous no cell phone cells signs, people still use them. This is one rule that I would like to see enforced. It gets frustrating having to practically scream at someone to get their attention so you can get by while they prattle away on their cell, oblivious to everything and everyone around them.
Another thing I don’t enjoy is the monotonous and tepid music. Always on no matter what time of day or night and always blaring so loudly that it distorts and sounds horrible. And of course the music is always some vapid and repetitious disco crap. A bit of variety would be nice. I guess some people don’t realize that it’s all right for music to be creative and have more than 3 chords played over and over again in a ⁴⁄₄ time signature.
Even with the few annoyances this is a great place to work out. They have two programs of 10 or 20 bucks a month and no long term contracts. Really simple and quite inexpensive for what they offer, especially considering the ²⁴⁄₇ convenience. A nice place to sweat and maybe lose a few pounds. Just be prepared to navigate some vacuous and self centered idiots on cell phones and some very bad music.
