The Avalon Inn Resort & Conference Center

We had a very good experience with this hotel. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable and the rooms were clean although basic for what we paid for.
Pros:
–Friendly man at the front desk during morning/​afternoon shift. Extremely helpful.
–Beautiful Property
–Free coffee and tea all day in the lobby
–Super comfortable bed and pillows
–Clean
–Restaurant/​Bar in building (no room service)
–Excellent free breakfast in the morning
–Free Parking
–Free Wifi
–Close to the highway
–Pet friendly
Cons:
–The bathroom was spacious, but there’s no counter space so you’ll have trouble setting your stuff up
–The shower head is old so instead of a flow of water, you’ll get splashes
–The front desk girl in the evening was rude and so engrossed in her book that guests who come to check in are treated like they are the biggest inconvenience in the world.
–Seems understaffed and spread thin.
–Regular prices for the rooms is too expensive for what it is. You’re more paying for the potential the place has rather than what it is.
–The food is expensive. I ordered a chicken sandwhich that was $ 16.00 and it was half a french bread which was about a handful and it didn’t even come with fries or any other sides. It was delicious, but not worth a whopping $ 16.
Overall the place has great potential, but the staff is really what makes the experience in these sorts of places and unfortunately that was sub par. We’re not sure why the place is called a resort because there is no spa or means of amenities for absolute relaxation. The only «resort» like aspect of the place is that it’s on a golf course.

This was the hotel I was put up in for a recent residency interview in Youngstown. I was pretty excited before I got there when I heard the «resort and conference center» part of the name. I can tell you that it is certainly not a resort, but it’s in Warren, Ohio so I didn’t know what I was expecting.
Checking in was really easy… the front desk man was friendly and he got me my room key very quickly. He informed me my room was the very last one down the hall which would have been no problem at all but they were remodeling. This meant that every room I passed had the door open and no one inside which just gave off a super creepy vibe.
My room was nice and clean, and the bed was very comfortable… you just sink right in to the plush bedding and mattress. The heat/​air conditioner was very loud, but that’s nothing new in a hotel room. The one thing I wish the room had that it was lacking was an iron… I went to iron my suit and there was nothing with which to do it so I used the old «hang your suit in the shower with hot water running» trick. It worked well but an iron would have been easier.
Overall, it was a fine place to stay, but nothing fancy

Really folks? We’re in warren Ohio here, I’m pleasantly surprised at such posh amenities. Some people think they are entitled to gold threads in the linen. Staff is friendly and welcoming and the rooms are immaculately clean!

An ok hotel. I was not impressed nor was I disappointed. The bad out weighted the good on this one.
The positives; located right smack in between Old Avalon Lakes Golf Course and Avalon Lakes Golf Course. Right next to, The Chop House, a restaurant with good Unilocal reviews. The room was freshly renovated and it was nice. Directv in the room with a flat screen TV. Large refrigerator in the room along with a Keurig coffee maker. The beds had white linens. Why is that important, it can be bleached. My opinion the best way to clean laundry.
The negatives; the hotel is under massive construction and difficult to access things. Doors, ramps and rooms are closed off. The breakfast buffet was even in a make shift room after accessing it from walking through the kitchen. Everything about this hotel was highly inconvenient. I would have rather stayed elsewhere and drove up to the course. The air conditioning unit is super loud. I would rather sweat than to listen to it another night. Ok, who sleeps in a hotel without a curtain on the window… me. Don’t know if they forget to install them or they totally disregarded it. The bed didn’t have a headboard. Omg, the bed wasn’t even near the wall and my pillow kept slipping off the bed at night. Ugh.
I spent $ 164 a night and so sad I did. Not worth it and very disappointed I stayed yet another night.
Overall, I will not be back.

…lots of repairs needed with this place…
Toilet was not flushed and had tissues in there, tap handle was broken and not fixed…
Internet barely worked-​terribly slow. It was so bad I used my phone as a hotspot instead. Highly irritating.
Place was clean otherwise.
Service was friendly.
Rather stay elsewhere.
Avalon resort… Definitely not a resort… totally misleading name.
Ppl lit up overnight and hallway smelled of weed in the morning.

I stayed at this hotel (I wouldn’t call it a resort) for three nights. I was in a wedding party, so they booked the room. I arrived an hour prior to check in, hoping to be able to get in a bit early, but instead I was told I couldn’t check in without the person who booked the room present. The person who booked the room called and was willing to give any information needed over the phone, but Tara (The acting General Manager) said that was «illegal.» After an hour of hanging out in the parking lot, I was finally able to get into my room.
The room was extremely clean, so kudos to the housekeepers, but the décor was very old. The furniture and décor was very sparse and everything seemed drab. The hotel seemed pretty quiet for a Thursday, so I slept pretty well. until 6 am when I was woke up by construction happening directly above my room. It sounded like someone was up there building a house! Not the best thing to wake up to. When I told the front desk about it, the man at the front desk informed me that my room shouldn’t have been sold and it should have been blacked out because they knew construction was happening above me. They assigned me another room a little ways down the hall, which was bigger. So, I packed everything I had just unpacked the day before and moved down the hall. I could still hear the horrible banging from someone using a nail gun, which made it hard to even think. I wasn’t too concerned, because I knew I was going to be out of the room majority of the day for the wedding.
The next night, I went to bed, I was woke up at 1:00 am by a man and his girlfriend fighting next door. Things escalated quickly and I could hear him striking her. I called the front desk to inform them what was going on. Instead of calling the police immediately, the lady at the front desk went to the room to try to remedy the situation. When she visited, they calmed down for a second, but after she left it seemed that he got even more upset and I heard more screaming and her yelling «get off of me!» So, I had to call 911. The police visited and removed him.
For what is supposed to be «one of the nicest hotels» in the area, I wasn’t impressed at all. The breakfast was exactly the same all three days in a row, the hotel staff didn’t seem trained to handle issues that arise and for what you pay, it’s not a good value at all. Other hotels have similar pricing and offer pools, hot tubs, variety of breakfast and trained staff.
Additional: There is a bar directly next door, which has music that you can hear clearly.

I stay at The Avalon whenever I’m in Warren, 3 or 4 times a year on business. I like the place, it’s homey and comfortable, there’s always a nice fire in the big front room and the restaurant (breakfast only) fireplaces and the continental-​style breakfast is just fine. The staff is always friendly and unobtrusive, the rooms are comfortable and the showers always have lots of hot water, no matter what time of day. The internet is free, something I always compliment hotels about, it’s so annoying to be charged just to use your own laptop. The nearby restaurant (same owner), The Chop House, is terrific, don’t miss it, great menu.

The grounds here are nice, and the restaurant connected to the Avalon Inn is decent, but a few things keep this from getting even a 3 star rating.
1. The service — When you have to approach a maid in the hallway to get a fresh towel, after having your room cleaned, you know you’re in trouble. Also, housekeeping was still cleaning rooms as late as 3pm. What’s more, the front desk staff wasn’t very good at smoothing over issues, or even properly taking care of simple problems. The banquet staff was kinda weak too.
2. The rooms — The accommodations are pretty damn depressing. Ugly design, lights that don’t work, broken furniture and bare bones amenities. The walls are pretty thin, too. I heard people in the hall and other rooms pretty clearly.
P. S. If you’re a business traveler and are going to need a printer at some point, just know that this place has only one computer/​printer, and that computer froze up on me twice.
So, in conclusion: Ugh.

I stayed at the Avalon Inn & Resort all weekend (labor day weekend) because I had a wedding in Youngstown, OH. It’s not the nicest hotel, but I think it’s among the best that Youngstown, OH has to offer. The hotel was huge– they had guests for at least 3 weddings staying here over the weekend. I was extremely impressed with the service. They went out of their way to help us with directions and the maintenance man helped us jump start our rental car after the battery died. The rooms were nothing special and our non-​smoking room smelled of smoke, but for the price of $ 100/​night I can’t complain too much.
