History
Established in 1972.
Over 40 years ago, an idea was born — an idea that local Lutheran churches should establish a home for the elderly. In 1972, that idea became a reality when Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home and Retirement Center was incorporated.
From that point, Shepherd of the Valley has grow from a single community in Niles with 100 employees to four residential campuses located in Boardman, Howland, Niles, and Poland, plus a home health agency, At Home With Shepherd, and a corporate location. In 2013, Shepherd employed nearly 600 people providing care and assistance to 1159 individuals throughout the year.
The Howland community opened in 1998.
