This place is a coney island now :-(not much into coneys so won’t be back there. We use to eat there when it was sahara 2 and it was pretty good. Tried the Coneys last week. Not really impressed, it was a regular hot dog. Fresh but rather cold in the middle. The Chili seemed old and didn’t have any taste or flavor. The onions were fresh and gee. I’m pretty sure I said everything so where was my Mustard ??? The verdict is still out on this place, I’ll try them again with something from the menu and let everyone know. Trust me. Not even shy.

I visited this restaurant the first week it opened. The service was excellent, but the food was not, so I decided that I was not returning. Then I learned that the Sahara was going to offer a buffet on Saturdays and Sundays. The cooks who do a restaurant’s lunchtime menu are usually not the same cooks who do its afternoon menu, so I went back to the Sahara one more time, to find out if its weekend buffet menu was different — and better — than its regular weekday menu. The good news is that the weekend buffet menu is definitely better. There was a good variety of dishes, some of them unfamiliar to me, and all of them freshly prepared, tasty and well spiced. I was therefore surprised that the restaurant was almost empty. There were only two other customers in the place besides me. No one seemed to know how good the Sahara’s weekend buffet was. Not good news for the restaurant. Not good news for me as a customer, either. I went back to the Sahara three more weekends, and each time I was almost the only customer in the whole restaurant. I wondered how they could afford to prepare so much buffet food with so few customers. Obviously they wondered the same thing, because each weekend there were fewer and fewer dishes on the buffet table. On my last visit, there was only one dish on the buffet table — a chicken dish — they brought some stuffed grape leaves out of the kitchen, but only after they saw me walk in and sit down. Both the chicken and the stuffed grape leaves were very good, but two dishes do not make a buffet. So, once again, I decided that I was not returning to the Sahara. Too bad.

GREATFOOD! Great service. This will be on my list forever. The garlic butter is worth the trip alone. WOW!

The interior of Sahara hasn’t been updated in about 30 years. We went for a family party and in the three hours we were there, we only saw maybe 5 other customers. They had us set-up in a private area with bread and two sauces out. The garlic sauce was AMAZING but the salsa-type dip was too spicy. The portions were huge! The fatoosh side salad was enough for my whole dinner! The meals themselves were huge– be sure to order the ½ size. Both my husband and I took leftovers to go. Overall the food was pretty good. I was disappointed that the shish kabob only came with onions and no vegetables. Somebody in our group ordered the swordfish and actually returned the meal because the fish was too strong. The staff did bring another meal. The service was not up to par. Even with a big group, nobody else was there– it shouldn’t have been so difficult. When food items were brought, they pretty much put them in the middle of the table and we passed to who they went too. Some dishes were just put in front of the wrong person. The prices are good, the portions are plentiful, and the food is tasty. But next time I’ll just get carry-out.
