After ten years as a journeyman, Chris McCarver decided to take his knowledge and skills in HVAC and start a business. The company was founded in 2010, with Chris and Shannon as the sole employees. The client list grew rapidly due to competitive, fair prices and Chris’s ability to fix nearly anything! Today, McCarver Mechanical has a team of hard-​working employees, a busy office, an industrious workshop, and a fleet of work vans. I live in a 100 year old home with a 1985 furnace and McCarver came out to give me my three year check up for preventative maintenance. I’ve never dealt with them before but all the Unilocal reviews said they were pretty good. They were very professional, courteous, and the price was very reasonable for a general tuneup/​check up. At no point did I ever feel like I was being took or that they were taking advantage of me. A week later my pilot light went out and would not light. The owner of the business, Joe, came out to take a look at it. He offered me his best, humble, professional opinion about upgrading my furnace. He made a later in the evening service call and did not charge me due to the fact that the company was out the week previous and my furnace was shutting down on me. Joe was very professional and very respectful. I will definitely be dealing with this business in the future

I used another highly rated HVAC company for furnace and A/​C issues recently but wasn’t satisfied because issues kept cropping up. I tried McCarver and am happy now. They diagnosed the problem that I suspected (but wasn’t qualified to determine myself), took care of it promptly, and gave me some recommendations for improvements over what the previous company had. Communication throughout was prompt and easy.

My air conditioning unit stopped kicking out cold air this past Saturday evening on the hottest day of the year so far. I called yesterday and left a message. Very prompt call back by 8:15 this morning. I had an appointment scheduled this morning. The tech got hung up on a prior job and Chris came out. All transactions with the company were very courteous and professional. My A/​C was fixed within an hour of his arrival. The price was fair and reasonable. I am very satisfied with the professional service and quick appointment. Thank you, Chris! Highly recommend.

Easy availability, work done as expected, the unnecessary up sell, lack of fees explanation, and prefers to charge full price instead of mentioned Unilocal special.
THE FEES — $ 89 to drop by and evaluate, $ 70 per hour for work done, $ 38/​lb of R-​22 freon.
TECHNICIAN — Joe was considerate, competent with an upsell agenda of leak galore with 2 suggested remedies without guarantees. A HVAC friend explained the leak concept to me, and we don’t have a leak.
RECEPTIONIST — nice gal, informative and readily answers questions. Listens well.

Last night, after a power surge, my furnace went out. I called the company that installed it and after a 2 hour and 45 min wait was told they were booked all night and to call back tomorrow. I began calling other company’s and hunkered down for a cold night. first thing this morning I made contact with McCarver and within 30 minutes a tech was at my door. Within an hour my furnace was up and running and the cost was way less, yes I said LESS then I thought it would be. I will recommend these guys and use them again. Great job!

McCarver heating and cooling were GREAT! I live in Boulder, Colorado and LA. My sister lives in Clinton Twp. and has been having trouble with their furnace. She’s not in the position to pay for it so I did. Being out of State I called a few other places and they didn’t accept credit cards? Really? I’m not sure how you can run a business without accepting CC’s. When I first called I spoke with a lady named Page. She was courteous, professional and very nice on the phone. She said the soonest they could get out there would be Wednesday (I called Monday)
About an hour later she called and said the owner could go out within the hour! He went out there and check it out. He said it was a «burner «issue and needed a little maintenance. They charged me $ 88.00 for going out plus parts which was about. $ 40.00.
Total cost was $ 128.00. I thought it was very reasonable and they went out right away which was great! All in all they were great and I would yes them again in a minute!

I had a less than satisfactory experience with this company. I had the «furnace tune up» performed on my furnace as a preventive measure. I’ve owned my home for 2+ years and have had no issue with my furnace during that time. The technician arrived on time and was friendly. He put on paper boots over his shoes to ensure no dirt came into my home. This genuinely impressed me. However, while I was initially impressed with the service, my experience soon went down hill.
Immediately after the technician left, I decided to try my furnace, and it did not kick on. Error #1: Technican did not check furnace operation before he left. I called the company and they promptly sent the technican back. He informed me the inducer motor had failed; this was why the furnace was inoperative. While I hadn’t had a single problem with the furnace in the past, I’ll chalk this up to a fluke and won’t hold the motor failure against them. It’s entirely probable that it could have failed; it was not a new unit. It does seem strange, however, that it would fail immediately after they left.
In any event, in installing the new inducer motor, the technican made Error #2: Not vacuuming out the chimney flue in furnace prior to installing the new inducer motor. In essence, the technician left 25 yrs of chimney dust in the flue for the motor to whip around and cause premature failure when seconds of vacuuming would have solved this. I even offered him my vacuum, but he did not take me up on my offer.
This leads me to Error #3: Not delivering the services I was promised. The entire reason for my call was to get the blower cage vacuumed out. The Office Manager informed me this was part of the tune up service. Needless to say, it was not vacuumed out. When I called the company again, the Office Manager corrected herself and stated she was in error. The tune up did not include cleaning the blower cage.
Taken separately, each error can be overlooked. However, when combined, I’m afraid my experience was well less than satisfactory, and suggest the company has not properly trained its technicians, nor its office manager in what is likely one of the most frequent services they perform: a furnace tune up. There’s no excuse for her to be uninformed about such a service.
The sad part is that I’ve worked on furnaces before (mine is 25 yrs old/​80% efficiency/​very simple to work on), and I could have done each item myself. Instead, I received subpar service. I wish this company the best, but I will not be calling them in the future, even for warranty work.

I saw the good reviews here and decided it was a no brainier. I called McCarver for a furnace inspection and tune up. Our furnace is about 15 years old so I didn’t expect it to be perfect. We found some issues, but overall a clean bill of health. Nice technician, arrived on time. Things are good.
A couple hours later and we were without heat. We figured that it was from one of the items that was discovered in the inspection. So I called them back and the scheduled somebody to come back out the same day. Things are still good.
When he came back, we found a hose disconnected. It must have been knocked loose during the inspection. When he attempted to put it back together it didn’t connect because it was dry rotted. No big deal, 12″ of hose should be something that you can find in your truck, right?
He found one all right and charged me $ 40 for a section of hose that he cut off a long hose. He kept the rest of the hose and took it with him.
I don’t mind paying for somebody to come back to my house. After all, businesses are there to make money. However I don’t agree with being charged $ 40 for a piece of hose that probably cost $ 0.50. It’s not fair to charge the customer for something that you’re most likely going to sell to another customer on a later day.

UPDATE: I was contacted the very next morning by McCarver Mechanical Heating and Cooling. After reading my review, they told me it was a fair review and wanted to make things right. I was refunded most of the cost of the hose and explained as to why it’s not $ 0.50 as I wrote above. I agree that the price that they do charge is now fair so I revised my review rating. Kudos to McCarver for excellent service. I will definitely go back to this company in the future.

My furnace chose a 15 degree night to stop working… I realized this at 4am when I woke up freezing. I paced about the house until 8a — when I searched Unilocal for help in finding a fast and reliable repair company. McCarver lived up to it’s five star reputation. I was immediately put on the on-​call list since I work from home and was flexible in when I could meet them. I was skeptical — but agreed hoping that they would indeed be able to fit me in. Within minutes I got a call asking if the owner could come right out. What?!? Of course — send him out. By 10:30 I had a new igniter and a clean furnace. At a SUPER reasonable price. Call McCarver first! You will not be disappointed!

VERY, VERY PLEASED WITH McCARVER MECHANICAL!!!
Their first visit to diagnose my broken a/​c was scheduled right away. Chris McCarver came and inspected the system, educated me on what was wrong and then offered me choices for repair/​replacement. Prices for both were reasonable.
I chose to purchase a whole new system and Chris scheduled the install for the same week. The crew was prompt, polite, efficient and professional. My new a/​c system was installed and checked before noon.
The entire process/​transaction happened with no stress or snags… I would highly recommend this company!

This winter is frigid. My furnace is in its golden years. I would say that I lucked out that it has lasted this long without any issues… until that fateful Sunday morning when I awoke to a very cold house.
Really furnace? Sunday? Of all the days in the week, you pick Sunday to fail on me? I panicked. I rushed directly to my Unilocal brethren for some assistance in finding a quality and trustworthy individual to come and rescue my family from the bitter cold. I called 3 or 4 different companies. I did not hear back from anyone except Chris McCarver. He called and estimated about a 4 hour wait time. I told him he was the only company to call me back. He did what he could do and had a technician at my door in 2 hours.
Since it was Sunday, Chris let me know that their service call charge was double. I do have a family so I was willing to pay the price.
The technician, Dave, was incredibly nice. I would not have had such a great demeanor if my boss called and told me I had to drive a couple hours and check out some poor schmuck’s decrepit old furnace. Not Dave, though. He did what was asked of him and he diagnosed my issue to be the crappy old gas valve. He broke the bad news that he didn’t have access to the part due to its uniqueness. He did not get the furnace to fire up and I was faced with the horrible reality that I would be without heat for the night.
After Dave left, the furnace did turn on and it worked all night. He’s good luck :)
Chris came out promptly the next morning and ran through all of the various parts to ensure I wouldn’t have any problems in the near future. He replaced the ancient (original) gas valve and everything was A-​OK. He cut me a break on the part since it couldn’t be replaced on Sunday. He also cut me a break on labor… probably because I’m a poor schmuck with an ancient furnace. My words, not his. My take on the discount was because he’s a good person with a heart and he felt bad for a guy whose furnace crapped out on him in the winter on a Sunday.
Really, furnace? Sunday? Ugh.

Used McCarver for an emergency job. Our heat broke down and our sucky home insurance company had kept us angling all day long trying to find someone to fix it — they couldn’t, and finally at 9 pm suggested we find someone ourselves. We called around a lot and found this business. They called us back right away, and were here within an hour despite some terrible weather outside. Not only that, Chris McCarver (he came himself) diagnosed and fixed the problem right away and was very helpful and courteous in doing it. We would use them again in a heartbeat (but hope we don’t need to!).

Had my check-​up on the old, old furnace this past week. McCarver came out promptly, the tech was helpful and efficient. My carbon and efficiency of the furnace both improved. In addition, Consumers Energy is offering cash back so I have a check coming to me. Received notice from Consumers within a day or two that they had received the paperwork, so the office at McCarver is efficient as well.
You can’t beat that with a stick. :-)

Called in an emergency to get my A/​C fixed on a Saturday during a Holiday weekend. Not only did they come right out, but they fixed it for less than I thought it would cost.
I could have got raked over the coals on price due to the circumstances but it was never an issue. The work was done quickly, it was done correctly, and it was done affordable. What more can I ask for?
