RTN Federal Credit Union

My parents have had an account with RTN for almost 25 years. My father, who was the primary account owner, recently died. For the past 3 months, representatives at RTN had been telling my mother that they would be able to transfer almost 100,000 points to her card, and that she should cancel my fathers card. She was unaware that she did not have the same account access or privileges as he did. After 3 months of speaking to various people, Rose at 781−736−9911, and Brian at 781−736−9921, and following their instructions to have his card closed, they are now telling her that she cannot transfer the points to her card as she was not the primary card holder. While I can understand that they may have certain policies in place, my mother was told that she would be able to transfer the points. Additionally, they told her that she could not transfer the points but they let her cancel my fathers card. That would imply that she is the primary account holder. Shame on you RTN. My mother was counting on using those points and was told that she would be able to keep them. Why did it take 3 months to tell her that she would not be able to transfer them?

This bank is awful. In spite of very friendly employees I always seem to have an issue that either goes unsolved or turns into another issue. I’ve given them about 6 months worth of effort and it’s been such a headache. Don’t sign up for an account with them. They can’t even get basic banking right.

Executive Management attention needed.
Please train your folks and pay them .
The employees must take a constant barrage of crap from customers like the ones commenting here.
My experience is the same. A car loan finalized and we were in parking lot, ooops don’t leave you still have to sign the truth in leading form.
IRA department needs to be retrained. Processed our roll over transfer to Fidelity by requiring Fidelity information be sent from Fidelity (per regulations true) and then RTN just sent Fidelity a check. thats it, a check!. Fidelity almost sent check back, we caught it, and had to beg Elizabeth to FAX the data they asked for originally, the info RTN did not include with the check to Fidelity. She leaves at 4pm. bet she won’t do it. …this isn’t gonna get better.
MOVE YOUR MONEY NOW so when they close you won’t be holding the bag to get your cash from FDIC admins., who will take years to unscrew what they are doing behind the scence that we can’t see.
Watch this space, RTN won’t answer. Lost interest waiting for transfer.

The worst bank when dealing with Customer Service. They applied a forced insurance on my car loan and said it was because I had no insurance, prove them wrong and then it was cause my insurance was cancelled. Proved them wrong again and it was because it wasn’t full coverage. Again proved them wrong. It took, 5, frigging 5 months to remove bogus charge in which they knew I wasn’t gonna pay interest on that money and now that they took it off they wont accept payments and want to repo. Problem is they never sent me a letter, Massachusetts Law, giving me 20 days to make arrangements for payments. Funny thing is they ad they had my signature. I never signed for anything and will prove it in court. Along with a civil suit for, breech of Peace, harassment and trespassing.
I can’t believe they hired Rich and John to run collections, they never stop talking and yell at you on the phone. As a Disabled Veteran with PTSD I wish I could reach through the phone and choke them out. But I guess they hide behind the keyboard and pone and act tough.

I’ve been a member for years because it was so convenient and I do enjoy their no fee checking account. The main reason I’m closing my account is due to customer service. This is absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever encountered. It is near impossible to get a live person on the line whenever you call a branch, although to be fair — I’ve left voicemail messages at the Danvers branch and my calls were returned by COB the same day. But it is near impossible to get anyone from Waltham branch to answer the phone or return your call the same day. Dealing with this bank is just not worth the frustation even for free checking.

Literally the worst bank ever.
We closed out our account a year or so ago, complete with certified letters to that effect; they’re still attempting to collect fees on a non-​existent account, and insisting (this is the second time this has happened) that they never closed it.
Go find a credit union where membership means something, and stay far away from this operation.

My wife and I just pulled all of our money out of this bank. They are absolutely abhorrent on the customer service side of the business — which is really where a credit union should shine.
First, we have called them multiple times on different issues (both loan departments and personal banking). Still waiting for the call back…
Our debit cards expired 2÷14… did they send us new ones — apparently, but to our old address. A well run business would call and ask when the cards were not activated, but not RTN! When I tried to change the address on the account — I was told I had to come into the branch to do so. One of the most inefficient policies I have ever encountered.
Not to mention that they’re terrible on the surface as well — mobile banking is cumbersome, mobile check deposit asks for your first born before accepting the deposit, among many other things.
Do yourself a favor and save yourself the hassle that I had… Don’t join this credit union.

I was a MAFCU customer and then RTN took it over. I was disappointed because RTN did not have any branches I could easily get to. I hung in there and mailed my deposits. I have a very small business and would mail in 10 checks or so. In November, they deposited my deposit into someone else’s account. I was freaking out because I was thinking about how I would recuperate those funds. It would have been a nightmare and a half. It took over a week for RTN to figure out whose account they mistakenly creidted MY money to. A week’s worth of anxiety probably shaved at least a week off of my life!
On a separate occasion, I received snail mail with another member’s information. I had all of their personal information. I called RTN and alerted them to their error. It could have been MY information in someone else’s mailbox.
The managers at RTN seem to be responsive. It’s other staff that are careless and dont seem to care. I had someone answer my call once, Marvin a teller, who did not seem to understand what I was asking. A fairly simple requeest. He kept me on hold for 5 minutes while he went to ask a colleague. In the meantime, I’m getting increasingly frustrated. At the end, he dumps my call into the queue as he did not feel like introducing my call or to make sure someone else would be able to help me. I had to retell my story, and this took way longer than it should have.
I changed banks, and in the meantime, I’m setting up my new account, setting up BillPay etc, etc, dealing with changing direct deposit, and di nt close out my RTN account. I realize, they are charging me fees. Ok, I get it. I need to close out my RTN immediately.
I would have given RTN less than 1 star had that option been available to me.
Do not bank at RTN!!!

BEWARE — RTN has no qualms emptying your account and giving the money to the state.
I had been an RTN Credit Union member since I was at Raytheon years ago. I remained a member for the reasons most do — an alternative to the big banks. Last October they called me and asked, since I had not made any additions or withdrawls in a while, if my account was still active. «Yes», I replied, «Thanks for checking up.» Great.
In my next quarterly statement I was shocked to find that all of my money had been removed from my account as «abandoned». I immediately called and asked what was going on. «Oh yes.», said the woman at the other end, «Gee, yes, it seemed we made a mistake. Here’s the number for the Massachusetts unclaimed property division.» I then said, «You made the mistake, please call them yourself and get back my money. I shouldn’t have to wrangle with a state agency (my thinking: DMV x 100) in order to fix a mistake you made.»
Long story short, RTN never called me back, never apologized, and never got my money back.

Update: I was happy to find that RTN did later, again without telling me, go and retrieve my money. For that I will give them another star. However, my next move was to remove my money and get the heck out.

I think the reviews here are a little harsh. I got an auto loan through RTN earlier this year, and the people in the loan department were great to work with. They were able to open my checking account and get my loan closed in just a few days, and told me exactly what documentation I needed. The 1.75% rate is a good deal too.
I did have a problem with the automatic loan payments recently which I called about, but nobody called me back. Overall this credit union is fine, but maybe a little disorganized.

You can not imagine how bad they are. Don’t give them your money, you don’t know when they give it back !
I f you call them you will see how rude they are.

Came in through MAFCU and in 2 weeks I will be leaving. This Credit Union is ridiculous. This Credit Union is up there with Comcast if not worse. Customer service is horrible your on hold for a very long time, the reps are rude and have no idea what is going on within the organization. In order to get my issue resolved with this bank Comcast had to do a three way call. Its one thing dealing with 1 bad company, but there is no way Im going to deal with 2 so this so called credit union has has got to go. Please stay away from RTN.

I originally join as a MAFCU member, which just merged with RTN and I couldn’t be more dissatisfied. I am planning on changing banks, which is such a hassle, but worth it. I recently lost my debit card, after multiple phone calls and people asking for the same info over and over again, they finally cancelled the lost card. The new one took 2 weeks to arrive, and it can’t be activated over the phone like most like cards can, I have to go to an ATM or the bank to activate it. The online banking works some of the time, but cannot be linked with apps like Mint.
Use another credit union.

I have to agree with the other reviewers here. When this credit union was Unified Credit Union they were awesome. When RTN took over they messed up my loan payments 3 times. They changed my payment schedule without notifying me but when I wanted the payment schedule to go back to the way it was they claimed I had to fill out the loan paperwork again and lose my interest rate in other words I had to sign an agreement to have the payment schedule changed but yet they didn’t need my signature to change it in the first place, needless to say I stayed with the new schedule.
Then a few months later they took twice the amount of the payment, it was an unexpected expense. They didn’t want to issue me a refund on the extra money. Their excuse, it would be such a hassle on their end to fix their mistake, with all that math and gobbely gook to figure out and why should I mind it’s one less payment I would need to make in the end!!! Maybe because you dipped into my emergency funds and NOW if something happens I have no back up money! Of course they never did reverse the extra payment.
Then they started posting the payment before 10 am on the same day my direct deposit goes in which of course the direct deposit doesn’t show up until after 10 am which means I HAVE to keep at least two payments worth of money in the account or I start getting calls about them not receiving payment.
Forget calling into the main branch for service, pathetic. Especially if you are a member who was there prior to RTN taking over. You literally have to ask for someone who has been working there since before it became RTN in order to get a straight answer. As a matter of fact the ONLY reason they get 2 stars is because of all the workers there before it was RTN. If it weren’t for them this place would get 1 star.
Oh for a while there after the change to RTN my online account password would suddenly not work happened too often to keep count. The response I would always get «Sorry your account isn’t in our system are you sure you have the right credit union.» Of course it would take an employee from before it was RTN to unlock my account because it some how would get locked, didn’t say too many log in attempts just locked out.
Maybe they had some hiccups when they took over or maybe former members of Unified have too high expectations for RTN taste but the least RTN could do was communicate if there were going to be issues and to not drop the ball when there was.

Got an auto loan through them. Upon paying off the loan they NEVER mailed me my Title. After contacting their auto loan department a lady said «oh well, it must have gotten lost…» How about tracking? Delivery confirmation? «Nothing, you’re on your own.» So after I grabbed a letter from them stating I had satisfied the loan I still had to pay out of pocket to get a duplicate title which is still giving me tons of headaches because the title indicates «the title may be subject to the rights of the person under the original certificate.» Now which buyer is going to believe I am the rightful owner?
After paying thousands of dollars in interest I expected better service and a bit more professionalism out of them.

Fees come in to steal your bank account with no warning. This credit union used to be small enough that when your checking account hadn’t enough for the mortgage, they automatically pulled it from you Savings. Now without warning, they wait 2 weeks, call you and say, «Want me to pull it from Savings? Oh, yes and there’s a $ 30 late charge.» When you trusted that your automatic payment was happening on schedule as before.
Also, a $ 19 fee added to the Master Card account, when before there was no fee. When they started advertising on TV, I should have known their service would deteriorate. If all this is done ‘automaticall’ (the excuse given me), I’m heading for a small bank that is as RTN used to be, when it was
Raytheon Federal Credit Union.
beware. They’ve outdone the Bank of America in nefariousness: $ 60 in 2 months instead of 1 year.

Updating this review. In hind site I will say that for the most part the tellers are friendly (depends what branch you go to). I have been a customer for years. There was a time when I was I a tough place. Instead of working with me they worked against me. Specifically the loan department. On numerous occasions they were rude and almost nasty. At one point I probably would have recommended them but not anymore.
