Mr Sweeper Sales and Repair

I took my Dyson vacuum in a couple weeks ago. The brush would not turn. I spoke with Ritchie on the phone and he said to come in and he would look at it free of charge. I was pleasantly greeted by him when I arrived. He said he would look at my machine and call me soon. I got a call from him an hour later and he explained it was a defective part, and asked me when I purchased the vacuum. I did not have a receipt nor did I recall exactly when I purchased it. He informed me that it should be covered by warranty, and said he would check into it, as it was an expensive repair. He let me know it would take about a week and a half for him to hear back from Dyson and he would call me. Sure enough a week and a half went by and Ritchie called and said my machine was ready. I arrived to pick up my machine and was greeted by another, equally pleasant man and he said there was no charge! They had contacted Dyson without any helpful information from me, and had it covered. He said the machine was only a couple years old and I already paid for a warranty that comes with the machine at purchase. I was in utter disbelief. Excellent, efficient, and very pleasant service. They went above and beyond and would recommend them highly!

I’ve been meaning to write this for a year. I was gifted a nice sewing machine and promptly messed it up. Brought it in, and in 24hours they did a complete cleaning, fixed a door that was broken, reset my tensions to something that made sense, replaced my needle, filled a bobbin, and fixed whatever it was that I’d done. When I came to pick it up, the guy gave me a sewing lesson. And only charged me $ 30. I also bought a Miele vacuum with them. No pressure, they beat Amazons price by $ 75, and threw in an extra bag to boot. Highly recommended local shop!

I love Mr. Sweeper. They’ve always been great– knowledgeable about the vacuums they sell, let you try them out in the store and have always been happy to answer any questions before and after purchasing.

Stopped by with my broker Hoover vacuum and they diagnosed the problem quickly and the repair took all of 10 minutes. Extremely efficient service at a reasonable cost.

I brought two sewing machines in for a tune-​up and repair. While it was nice that the staff got general price approval from me on intake, the actual price quoted over the phone for the tune-​ups was ~30% higher than the quote (they have their specialist look at the machine before quoting a price). Because of the increase, I decided not to get one of my machines repaired. Ultimately, I was charged the amount initially quoted; I’m still not sure why the price moved around so much.
When I picked up my machines, they had wrapped the power cords around the machine so the cords were around the machine. That made me very nervous because it was putting pressure on the presser-​foot. They claimed this was to ensure the cords stayed with the right machines; I appreciate the sentiment but think there’s a better way to handle it.
As some other reviewers have mentioned, I felt shamed for the age of one of my machines, so if you have an older model, consider taking it elsewhere. This was the machine I chose not to have repaired because of the price. They offered to trade it in for a newer model multiple times — a big turn-​off for me.
I probably won’t be coming back to Mr. Sweeper for sewing machine repair.

I went in with a broken vacuum. Could have paid to have it fixed. The sales manager was very helpful in letting me know that the kind of machine that I was using was damaging my rugs and making it more likely to break the machine. He helped get a new one and it weighs so little… It was pain free and so helpful. I am so glad these stores still exist. We are lucky to have one so close.

I found this shop by chance on my way to another errand. I needed to get a new part for my old junkie dirt devil upright and there was no way I was ever going back to Acton Vacuum & Appliance (I have left another review about them).
This was completely the opposite experience! Rick met me promptly, took the time to show me some options. Every vacuum in their store can be «test-​driven» so you really get a feel for what you’ll be investing in. Although I originally just went in for a part I explained what I needed and he not only offered to see if he had a spare part (I would have to bring the part into his shop of course) and offered to recycle and trade in my old vac if I decided on purchasing a new one. That’s great for me because I don’t like to take things to the dump unless they can be recycled. There is a great selection in this store and he is honest and upfront about the options from the most basic to the high end models. Even though I decided to save up and come back for a decent machine in a couple months there was absolutely no pressure. Just a helpful guy who was eager to share his expertise. I will definitely be back. Mr. Sweeper is a keeper! :)

I can’t believe I never wrote a review for this store — I swear I meant to! I went to Mr. Sweepers not by referral but because I live a few doors down and like to shop local whenever possible.
I went in desperately needing a new canister vacuum and brought along my ancient broken one hoping they could maybe recycle some parts. I explained my needs (I have two indoor cats in a one bedroom apartment. I need power!) and my moderate budget to the owner, who was working the counter. Prior to my mention of my budget he, of course, showed me an impressive-​but-​expensive model but immediately backed away from pitching the higher end products when I told him my limitations. At no point did I ever felt pressured to go beyond my limit.
He ended up recommending the newer version of the one I previously had (much, much newer) and it works like a dream. 6 months later and it’s AMAZING. Got a reasonable deal that was competitive to the box store pricing. He even gave me a free package of bags for my old vacuum (which, I promise you, had no value).
What bumps this to 5 stars is the AMAZING customer service. Not only was the entire transaction friendly and incredibly informative, but the owner clearly goes above and beyond. When I mentioned I was going to walk it back to my apartment on the end of the block he was absolutely horrified (not in a sexist women-​are-​weak kind of way, just in a very kind and concerned way) and insisted that he do it for me. Despite my protests he literally carried the entire vacuum box from the store to my apartment stoop. Amazing.
I’ve recommended four people to Mr. Sweepers so far that have also gotten vacuums here and they have all had similarly positive experiences.

I recently came here to purchase a vacuum. After looking a lot online and seeing a few things in person at Costo and BJs I just wasn’t sure what the right thing to get was. I had what I thought was a generous budget in mind and I figured I’d try this place to see if they could make me feel comfortable with one over another. We dealt with a gentleman who listened to our needs and things about our home. We reviewed some Miele’s I was interested in and ultimately settled on something that would work for us and in our price range. They assembled it for me and also provided my first box of vacuum bags for free. I am glad that having made a significant investment in my new vac that I will have a reliable place to bring it if it needs anything. I would highly recommend them!

Went here today to get my vacuum fixed, never brought a vacuum in to get fixed before. They were very friendly, very helpful, totally reasonable! I am SO glad I came here! Highly recommended!

I love supporting small, local business and was happy to see Mr. Sweeper highly rated on Unilocal.They didn’t let me down. I received very personal care from all four people who worked there. They are highly knowledgable and attentive. They give you all the time and information you need to help you make a decision — without being at all pushy. When I finally picked my sweeper, I (of course) Googled it and found Mr. Sweeper’s price equal to the lowest I could find online. They also put it together for me right from the box — no easy task as I had done this myself with a past sweeper. I was so happy, I took my sewing machine in to let them give it a reasonably priced tune up. They are my small appliance people!

This store is exactly what «shopping local» is all about. Great service. Very reasonable prices. I needed a part for my Miele vacuum. Mr. Sweeper had it in stock and installed it for free (since he had the machine open anyway when he did his free estimate). I had found this shop via Unilocal and am very glad to add to Mr. Sweeper’s five-​star reviews.

My mother and I have both been patron’s of Mr. Sweeper’s in Waltham for many years. We bought a vacuum there from the pleasant and helpful staff people that last well over 10 years, and when it needed minimal maintenance after that time, we traded it in for a new vacuum for $ 100 off the retail price. This store is clean, well stocked, and full of helpful staff. They even gave us some free vacuum bags (and they are expensive for the model I have!). I will continue to go to Mr. Sweeper’s for as long as I live in this part of Massachusetts because the staff and service can’t be beat.

My very old sewing machine was damaged in shipping. I was rushing to get to Mr. Sweeper from work, and Denis kindly stayed a bit past closing time to make sure my trip across town in traffic was not in vain.
He was very knowledgeable and helpful, and I appreciate that he didn’t make me feel rushed, even though it was after closing time as we talked.

I have no idea how or why this happened, but while moving I somehow lost the power cord and pedal to my serger.
Since I’m a design student, my serger is a key piece of equipment. With finals on the horizon I didn’t really want to order the cord and pedal online and have to wait a few days for them to come in. So I gave Mr. Sweeper a call. The guy on the phone was really nice and told me to bring the machine in, so he could see exactly what type of cord and pedal I needed. So I packed it up and was off.
When I got to the shop I was well-​tended to by two members of the staff. It took about 15 minutes of searching for them to find the parts I needed. Though they had brand-​new versions of what I needed, they also had some used ones for half the price. They offered me both options instead of pushing me towards the much pricier new parts.
I bought the used cord and pedal, and they work fine. My lone complaint about the store is that a new cord and pedal would’ve cost me $ 70 there, but only $ 40 online. But since I bought a used cord and pedal, the price was actually quite good.
The guys working there were very knowledgeable, and I’ll definitely be back next time I need sewing machine parts or if any of my machines need repairs or tune-​ups. My machines are pretty precious to me, so it’s saying a lot when I’m willing to entrust someone with them.

Called some place in Hingham and was quoted $ 50 + to fix a minor electrical problem on the dinosaur Oreck that mi esposa swears is the greatest vacuum to ever suck up a Cheerio. Called Mr. Sweeper (gender misnomer was obvious, since I dealt with a Mrs. Sweeper) and was quoted «about $ 15». Brought it down on a lunch break, she asked when I’d like to pick it up, and before I could answer, interjected «How’s 15 minutes?»
I Hoovered down a burrito and came back, and there was the green beast, reving to clean, $ 14.75.
Fuck you, nameless rapacious Hingham vacuum shop. You quite literally suck.
