Currents on the Charles

We have had a wonderful experience living at Currents on the Charles, what sets it apart from other rental communities in the Boston burbs is the staff– they go above and beyond everyday, and that makes living here worth it.
The front desk staff at Currents on the Charles are like Disney employees (gold standard in hospitality) — they are friendly, helpful and accommodating. I notice this because we had lived in another building– Harborview at the Navy Yard and the staff there was not helpful or accommodating in the 3 years we lived there. We have been at Currents for 7 months and we love it.
We wanted a new rental complex with a parking garage, central ac, someone who takes care of loud neighbors, reasonable commute to downtown and someone who signs for packages. We considered a few places before deciding on Currents– a place in Concord that was in a much more residential area (same price no garage, gym or common areas), a complex in Melrose that was the last stop on the orange line (older complex) and Portside in East Boston.
Some examples of Currents staff going above and beyond:
me (panicked, it’s the day before thanksgiving): «My oven doesn’t seem to be working and I’m baking cookies for tomorrow, is there any way to recalibrate my oven?» Currents «yes of course I will be right up» this Currents staff member was in my apartment in 5 min and had also hauled up my packages that were delivered that day, then proceeded to tell me that they had unlocked an unoccupied apartment near me so I could use that oven if I needed to because maintenance had left for the day but they would be over first thing in the am the day after Thanksgiving… and they were!
me: «the traffic signal on the corner of River and Seyon is not giving a walk signal, who can we call to get this thing working?» Currents: «we have called and emailed the city of Waltham about this, let me call them again and see what’s happening» The next day the traffic light was giving a walk signal
me: «how to we get the lights on in back of stop-​n-​shop to make it safer to walk over when it’s dark at 4:30pm?» currents: «let me email the manager over there and see what we can do.» Literally the next day I was walking to stop-​n-​shop and the LIGHTS WERE ON! The Bozzutto employees are incredible– they get sh! t done and what is even more more amazing is they seem to want to.
I would also like to note that the maintenance staff at Currents is wonderful, friendly and equally as helpful.
AMENITIES:
Currents has great amenities– look on their web site. There is no amenity fee at Currents on the Charles. What I was finding in the city and surrounding complexes was that they were all charging an «amenity» fee with very few actual «amenities».
LOCATION of CURRENTS:
If you know the area you will not be surprised by your surroundings. Accessibility to movies, schools, playgrounds, good restaurants and grocery stores is convenient. I could see being disappointed if you did not know the area and were just looking off the renderings on the web site. Or if you were moving from out of state and this was your big Boston move-​this would be a bummer.
LOCATION of OUR APARTMENT:
We chose to live on the stop-​n-​shop side of the building. We have been pleasantly surprised with our decision. We see a lot of trees and the noise is nothing like we thought it would be. We use 2 white noise makers to sleep and only once have we been woken up by a truck at 5am. Most of what we hear is traffic on River st.
COMMUTING:
My husband rides his bike to the Waltham commuter rail. It’s a 10 min bike ride then a 25 minute train ride to north station. There is a bus stop almost directly in front of Currents, the 558, that goes downtown. I took this bus and the morning commute was 45 – 60 min and the commute home would be 45 – 90 min.
RENT:
We feel like what we are paying $ 2760/​month for around 1,100 sq ft with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and a parking spot is a good deal for Boston. It’s not a good deal if you are coming from a cheaper part of the country. The rent does not include your water bill, which we were told about before we signed a lease and shrugged it off. We have had several water bills that were close to $ 100/​month.
NOISE:
We have been extremely lucky to not have any noisy neighbors. I have spoken to other tenants and they have not been so lucky. It’s a crap shoot.
PETS:
The building is kept very clean, you would not know pets live here other than seeing them or hearing them bark when you walk down the halls.
SMALL GRIPES:
The ventilation system– when someone is cooking fish on your floor or the floor below you, you do smell it in your apartment. Frustrating since this is such a new apartment complex, at dinner time we just point a fan at our door.
The «heated» pool– we were very excited to use the pool this summer, unfortunately they do not heat it above a temp somewhere in the 75 degree range. It felt freezing unless it was an extremely hot day in the upper 90’s.

First of all, thank you Bozzuto management and your staff, Jessica, Jenny, Charlotte, James, Christopher, Sean and Ben for making everyday a pleasure to be part of the Currents community.
The complex boasts being on the Charles River walk, a gym with state of the art equipment, a pool and multiple lounge areas inside and out for you, family and friends to enjoy. I’ve enjoyed using the amenities especially the multiple walks I take along the Charles every day. I am most looking forward to my son and his family spending time around the pool where we will grill and enjoy meals.
For those of us who prefer not to have to jump in the car for everything, there are many food stores, restaurants, a pharmacy and nail salons to walk to.
The apartments are beautifully appointed with the most up to date décor, simple and elegant.
I’ve enjoyed meeting new residents from near and far. I have no regrets moving here.

Currents is a happening place!

Currents is top notch. The building is beautiful, modern, and loaded with amenities. The pool deck, gym, and location right on the Charles River makes exercising and relaxing outside easy and enjoyable. Last but not least, the management company representatives are super nice and accommodating. I’m very happy we chose Currents!

Currents on the Charles is a lovely place to live. The management and staff are so friendly and helpful. Our 2 bed /​2 bath is very large with big closets, bathrooms, and plenty of cabinets. The pool, lounge, and workout room are great. Building is in walking distance to supermarket. Parking garage is in building. Run, don’t walk, to join this terrific community!

This rental property is incredible. Right from the start as prospective tenants we felt welcomed and all of our needs were attended to almost immediately. The building was brand new so everything was in pristine condition. The staff is continuously courteous and helpful. I have found the gym to be better than expected. The pool space that our apartment looks out on is well maintained and we are eager to try it out first hand. They provide a number of opportunities to engage and interact with all of the other residents, including beer and wine tastings on the terrace and the opportunities to take cooking classes with other residents. We have only been in our apartment a few days but this place truly is home and we are so glad to have made the decision to make Currents our residence.

We recently moved into Currents on the Charles and cannot say enough good things so far! The apartments are high-​end, luxury units, complete with a dishwasher, disposal, ice vending refrigerator, microwave, center island, extensive cabinet space, and washer/​dryer in-​unit. The windows are large and let a lot of sunlight into the apartment. There are outlets everywhere for a significant amount of flexibility in arranging your home as you please. The residents in the community are very nice and the management staff wants to make sure your experience is enjoyable, comfortable, and carefree. We LOVE that the building is dog-​friendly and especially appreciate the private park behind the building for some much-​needed exercise. In fact, the building is right on the East Coast Greenway, which is perfect for running along the Charles River and enjoying the view, with or without a dog. Grocery shopping has never been easier with Stop and Shop right next door (literally, you can see it from the building), Shaw’s in the plaza across the street, and Russo’s Market just moments away. Our apartment located on the street and, though fairly quiet, we plan to run a fan at night to muffle some of the traffic noise. We expect noise when we live in a city, though! If your apartment faces the river or a side street, the apartments are substantially more quiet. We are looking forward to enjoying the many amenities that Currents has to offer, including the fitness center, pool and lawn. Covered parking is going to be amazing in the winter! Overall, we are very happy that we selected Currents on the Charles for our new home.
