I came here with my friend one afternoon and this place was pretty empty. We weren’t greeted at the door or seated… So we just sat down at a table ourselves. We ordered the onion pancake, xiao long bao dumplings, and the baked steam dumplings. Food was pretty good! The xiao long bao was very flavorful. The pancake was really good too. It was really crispy! The baked steam bun was okay. I didn’t think it was that great. The dough made it not as good. Parking is easy as its in a pretty big plaza! I would come back to try other menu items! Hopefully I’ll be greeted the next time…

I came in for a quick grab to eat while on break at school. I decided on the pork dumplings and apple green tea. The tea is delicious, a little on the sweet side but pretty tasty. The dumplings were… meh. The meat inside was very flavorful but the dumplings themselves we clumpy and tasteless. The plate still had water from the steam which gave them a somewhat mushy consistency. Maybe I’ll come here again and try something else since the flavor of the pork wasn’t an issue. Perhaps dumplings aren’t their forte which makes me sad because I LOVEDUMPLINGS.

I always ordered noodle soups; they never disappointed me. Brought my friends here, and they like it, too. One of them is from Shanghai, she said that’s the same way they cooked at home. If you want a taste of Shanghai food, come here.

No stars! If I could… First time trying this place. To go order. Shrimp chow mien and paid an extra $ 2 for more shrimp… Hardly any shrimp and super tiny. This place is whack… Noodles tasted old.

Excellent service and liked the selection. Beautiful menu w lots of photos. A French press is used instead of a tea pot which is a nice twist. Restaurant looks new and décor is modern and asthetically pleasing.

Stopped by to grab some lunch for my family, and as usual, I’m always craving Taiwanese and Shanghai food. Like always, it’s insatiable. I ordered: seafood rice cakes salt, pepper pork chop ginger scallion beef yeung chow fried rice xiao long bao Total came out to be just under $ 50, which isn’t bad. However, the portions were pretty small, especially for being about $ 10 a dish. I’ve been to many… many Chinese/Vietnamese restaurants that serve family style food and portions are always large, because it’s meant to share! When it comes to lunch time, I open up all the dishes to take pictures(for the Unilocal Fam), and that’s when the portions hit me. Small. I look past that anyway, and dig in. First thing I get into — the XLB’s. They were still hot and fresh so I definitely had to eat those first. The wrapping was good, a bit thick but still good! However, the filling was a little overcooked and was more like a homemade meatball. I think it needed just a bit more fat to soften it up a bit. The soup inside was good! After that, I notice taste, or lack thereof. All the dishes were very bland. The yeung chow fried rice was so plain, it’s as if they didn’t even add salt or soy sauce or anything to flavor up the rice. However, the sausage and the shrimp in the rice was well-cooked, so it was still an enjoyable dish. I just added some juices from the other dishes ;) From that dish on, I didn’t really enjoy what I ordered. The beef was very overcooked, and the style of cut was not very forgiving; usually scallion beef is thinly sliced and very soft. This was chewy and thick. Seafood rice cakes were nice and perfectly chewy, however, they had no flavor and the seafood was SO overcooked, it was just no good… Squid was so tough, it’s a culinary faux-pas! My mom and I actually re-fried up the rice cakes and added our own sate sauce to spice things up. The only good thing was the pork chop. Since it was fried, it held onto its juices and was savory. The only good dish I ordered. It had green onions on top, some chopped chilis. It’s my dad’s go-to for a reason. By no means am I giving up on this location. Definitely will try it again, soon!

The family was craving beef noodle soup so we decided to give this place a try. We ordered the Shanghai fried pork bun, xiao long bao, beef stew noodle soup, sausage fried rice, cold cucumber and spicy tripe with bean curd. The Shanghai fried pork bun was too dry. Nothing compared to the buns from Kang Kang food court. The sausage fried rice was very bland and looked greasy. Everything else was extremely salty especially the beef stew! The only thing that didn’t disappoint was the xiao long bao. I would probably come back to give their other dishes a try because they do have a pretty big variety for their noodle soups.

The restaurant is clean and inviting. The waitress was nice and service was good. We ordered Xiao Long Bao, Seafood Stir fried rice cakes with pepper, Shanghai wonton soup, Vegetable and Fish Soup, Salty chicken. Everything tasted good except the chicken. I ordered it as Crispy chicken but came out steamed and salty. It just wasn’t good for my tastes but probably good for those that like this dish.

My first time giving a 1-star review. I used to like coming here, but my last visit left me scared to come back. We ordered the pork buns, XLB, and some noodle dishes. Everything was going okay until I bit into the pork bun. Like Gordon Ramsay would say, «IT’s RAW!!!» The meat was still raw pink, so I spit it at and brought it to the waitress’ attention. She actually tried to argue with us, saying that’s how the buns are supposed to look like. But after examining it(she was literally poking it around with our chopsticks), then admitted it was raw, apologized, and sent it back to the kitchen. Once it come out again, I was hesitant to take a bite. I opened the bun and it looked um, not-raw, but I couldn’t get the raw taste out of my mouth, so I just took everything to-go. 1-star because she tried to argue with us about it being raw, and did not even offer to comp or meal or even that order.

On my way to be dropped off at school and we were feeling famished. So we decided to come here. My family has eaten here before and they enjoy it, and I have their togo dumplings and noodles once. So today is my first time dining in. The décor and atmosphere isn’t bad at all. It’s contemporary and quite clean. Nothing too dramatic, nothing too boring. +1 They have a few employees, kinda much for such pa small store, but when it’s dead they usually sit at the corner and chatter away. Which is not that annoying because their service is still attentive and friendly, and at least that shows that the bosses aren’t strict jerks. +1 Their food is average, but I’m going to rate it a bit higher because their dumplings are delicious! They’re not the most amazing dumplings I’ve had but they’re still really really good! Their xiao long baos I recommend! +1.5 Nice pit stop for students!

I’m gonna be brutally honest here, and say that the food here isn’t the best, in fact, below average of the type of food it is supposed to represent(Mandarin-Chinese cuisine). I definitely do not recommend the xiao long bao. The stuff contained inside the bao does not resemble meat at all; in fact, it’s more of a drippy, gooey meat paste. Ewww. The other dishes I actually enjoy are the spicy cucumbers, fried rice, and the cold-cut appetizers. Just don’t get the dumplings if you don’t want to have a disappointed meal. Also, when you’re there, you will most likely hear nasty, disturbing hacking coughs and sneezes by the men working in the kitchen. I don’t even wanna know if they’ve contaminated the food. EWW, EWW, EWWWW! On the other hand, the female waitresses are polite and mostly attentive.

I haven’t dined in before but this review is based solely on take-out. I ordered two orders of xiao long baos over the phone and the lady on the phone said it would be ready in 15 mins! I came and picked them up and left as a happy girl. The xiao long baos were the typical and amazing soup dumplings I tend to talk about. a lot. I don’t think any restaurant had ever ruined these for me. From the look of the restaurant, it is fairly new, modern, and remodeled. I’m looking forward to dining here in the future and trying their dan dan noodles!

My boyfriend and I wanted to try something new and near by school, and this place was it. They also have a wide selection for food… So many pages! Took us awhile to order any thing. Food: It was good, they even had a promotion of a free tea(between Thai tea, green tea and one other one) I kinda wanted to order my own drink but the waitress was persistent. So why not? Who doesn’t like free? My boyfriend got the Thai tea(I tasted it and thought it was good, I actually don’t like Thai tea lol) and I got a green tea, it was good… But it had something else in it, don’t know what it was but it made it hard for me to drink(sad face). We ordered combination fried rice, Kung pao chicken and noodle crab meat sauce seafood(not sure if that name is right, can’t really remember). The fried rice was good, wondering if I could order it spicy, it would be even better. Kung pao chicken… Not that great, tasted good initially with my first bite but it was more on the sweet side then spicy so that was a little disappointing. And the noodle crab sauce, it was good, something entirely new for me. Though I thought the sauce would be creamier, so it seemed like there was waaay more soup than sauce. Customer service: Decent, it could have been better. They were extremely nice and served you when called. Although, they never came up to us at all on their own to see how we are doing or if we needed anything else(it didn’t bother me, just something I noticed). One thing that did bother me was when we needed a to-go box and the check, the only waitress present in the dining area was cleaning(which isn’t a problem… But…) she was so focused on the small dust she was cleaning on the opposite side of the room, not paying attention to the customers(maybe I’m just being bitchy lol). I did like the fact that when we needed some food to be boxed up they took our food and boxed it up for us… it wasn’t necessary, could have done it myself but I’m not complaining. Cost: Our bill was about $ 30. 3 dishes + 2 free drinks(the waitress even refilled my boyfriends Thai tea to go for free, that’s a plus!) All in all, would I come back again? Yes :)

A new Shanghainese food place has opened in Walnut, CA and it has a bunch of awesome specials to boot. In the small yet homely Tasty Noodle House, you will(for now) get six pieces of xiao long bao if you spend 20 bucks and free drinks(Ice Black or Green Tea) as well for EACH member of your party. While I wish the portions could’ve been larger, there’s no doubt the«freebies» make the experience of dining at Tasty Noodle House a value filled experience. While I wish the xiao long bao had a softer skin and the veggie rice cakes could be softer, the friend onion pancakes and chicken fried noodles are solid food choices. Dishes seemed to range from 6 – 15 bucks, with the more expensive dishes being seafood based. Although I think you could find better places if you drive a bit further, Tasty Noodle House is for the time being, a solid dining experience that can serve a fairly large party well. Located at a plaza across Mt. Sac Community College, you can find more parking on the other side of the plaza where Stater Bros. is located — if you eat that much, you might as well walk a bit more right?

A little different style of ingredients, and flare for this Shanghai/Thai eatery. It’s definitely up there when it comes to dumpling goodness. Happy, happy, happy servers and freebies galore! Green Thai tea was too sweet for me but other than that everything was delicious! Prawns were simmered in a sweet chili sauce that had hints of pineapple and red chili flavor. The portion of noodles we received was enough for 4 but no worries! the two of us polished them off no prob! Everything was fresh and tasty but the steamed fish and cilantro dumplings were our favorite. The server was so attentive and kept asking us if we liked our food. Her smile was so appreciated after a long day of travel and work. We would likely come back.

Perfect spot for Shanghainese food. Their grand opening special has been going on forever where you get a free drink with every dine-in purchase. Thai tea for days. Always get the steamed pork buns(xiao long bao). They’re pretty cheap and have a lot of soup in the buns. Shanghai veggie rice cakes are very traditional, not too salty, and pretty good. I’ve tried the black pepper seafood version which is more salty but probably more flavorful. Beef noodle soup was not bad here, but it’s more of a Taiwanese dish so don’t expect too much. Workers mostly speak Chinese but they’re very friendly. Cheap and traditional Shanghai dishes. Take out is pretty quick if you’re in a rush. Very clean and comfortable restaurant as well.

This is unfortunately my first 1-star review on Unilocal… sad I had to do it but my latest visit here has left me no choice. I had previously rated this place pretty highly but my dinner tonight has left me with a sour taste in my mouth in more ways than one…(read on to see why!) I’ve had the beef noodle soup here before which tasted good, so I ordered it again this time. ITWASNOTGOOD. The soup had no beef flavor except some weird sour aftertaste, so basically it tasted like diluted vinegar water. My dad tried it and asked the waitress why it was so sour. She claimed it was a certain preserved vegetable they put into the soup. My dad asked if I wanted to send it back. I strongly believe in not sending food back because I have the feeling they’re definitely going to spit in it so I was like… no thanks(nothing against Tasty Noodle House. This is how I feel about sending food back at ALL restaurants). Still, my dad insisted and sent it back. No dad… why…I couldn’t stop him… So they came back out with the soup, sans the«sour veggie.» Well guess what? STILLSOUR. The soup tasted exactly the same… diluted vinegar water. I concluded they just messed up the entire batch of beef noodle soup in the kitchen because I’ve had it before and it did not taste like this. My dad wanted to send it back AGAIN but this time, I refused to let him. I would rather just force myself to eat it(which is what I did) than send food back to the kitchen TWICE. WHOKNOWSWHATTHEYCOULDDOTOIT?!?(Again, not accusing Tasty Noodle House. This is how I feel about sending food back at ALL restaurants.) What I’ve learned is to never order the beef noodle soup here again, and I would advise anyone to do the same. Honestly, I don’t see how the chef doesn’t taste his own food. And if he does, how can an establishment serve food that tastes this inadequate and charge $ 7.99 for it. It’s not morally right.

This place is pretty good. Most everything I had was good. I just didn’t enjoy one of the items in the 4-item appetizer(I think it was pork? Not the ear or tofu though). It has a strange Asian-infused taste. The other 3 items were good, though, so I’ll let it slide. Good Xiao Long Bao. It tastes right, like how xiao long bao should taste. Definitely something to order again next time. I also ordered the cong you bi(onion oil cookie?) and it wasn’t impressive. The bread was too thick for me. It just became a chewing contest. It’s cheap though. Beef Noodle Soup was good. They gave a huge bowl and there was no way I could eat it alone. But man, I tried. The food is good. As for the service: if you don’t speak Chinese, this place may not be for you. I know I don’t, so I was forsaken in this place. The servers are nice, but yeah man, it could become difficult to communicate. I’m returning next time I’m stuck in the area.

As some Unilocalers mentioned, there are great grand opening deals and it is still happening as of the writing of this review. There was free siao long bao dumpings with the purchase of $ 20 or more and a free tea drink for each person. To start, the free dumplings were not the best tasting since the skin was too thick. It was good that the dumplings were juicy. However, all I tasted was dough when I popped it into my mouth. The free lemon tea was nothing more than Lipton ice tea mix that I used to make at home. First things first — their menu was just too overwhelming with too many items! We finally ordered based on recommendations from the server. We ordered the cold appetizer with 3 items($ 7.99). It was comparable to other places where I’ve ordered it in terms of taste. The beef and cabbage fried rice($ 6.99) definitely looks a lot more salty than it tastes. The lamb dish($ 12.99) surprising tastes a lot like the Mongolian BBQ plates I make with lamb. The meat was a bit overcooked and the way the veggies were cut was very inconsistent. Overall, the quality of the food don’t justify the prices they were charging for their dishes if you do not factor in the grand opening deals.
