In search of cheap eats and a break from the heat and sun, a friend and I sought refuge in Glenn’s during Walnut’s annual Antique Show. The place was PACKED. We grabbed two stools near the end of the line at the bar. We were tended to immediately. We ordered the special: a BBQ pork sandwich with potato salad and chips. Just minutes later, our meal was delivered with the sandwich halved, an extra plate provided. Our plate was overflowing, worth beyond the $ 5.75 special price. The sandwich was nothing to write home about, but stuffed with meat. The sides were plentiful. I really dug the atmosphere. It was small town cool, and the staff was speedy and friendly. Even the patrons were friendly; we struck up a conversation with a lovely couple who too were in town for the event. There is patio dining out back, too. Glenn’s is located on the main drag, just minutes south of I-80. It’s worth the detour if you have a hankering for something other than McDonald’s. Plus, the drive through the charming town of Walnut is a nice reprieve from the 75MPH interstate travel.
