Foundry specializes in writing and reading for students ages 6 — 18. We believe that education should be student-​driven, creative, and relevant to the real world. We want to show students that writing is easy and fun. We also offer Math, Science, History, Art, and Music classes!

History

Established in 2002.

Foundry Academy is a full-​service after-​school and summer program for students K-​12. First established by Sophia Chung as a writing and technology studio, Foundry now features math and science in addition to writing and robotics. From our classrooms in Walnut, CA, students craft short stories, essays, and novels, publishing their work in a culminating novel each December. Check out our full story on our website!

Meet the Business Owner

Sophia C.

Business Owner

Sophia Chung is the Executive Director and she teaches Writing, Reading, Critical Thinking, and Public Speaking. She has taught in southern California for the last 7 years and at Valley New School in Appleton, WI. She previously worked abroad with middle school and high school students in Xi’An, China, and in Vienna, Austria. Passionate about education that is well-​rounded and relevant to the real world, she aims to design programs that students love attending! Her teaching has been featured on Channel 5 News (Green Bay, WI) and five of her articles are published in The Vienna Review, an English-​language newspaper based in Vienna, Austria. A language-​lover, she speaks German and Chinese in addition to English. She received her B.A. in English and her B. Mus. in Piano Performance from Lawrence University.
