People who comment on the time warp design just don’t get it about the Delta. This is history you’re walking into where the late, very famous author, Earle Stanley Gardner, used to hang out when he was house boating in the Delta. Just slow down when you come to the bridge and make a 90 degree angle turn soon as you get over the bridge to have a Delta boating experience even when you come by car. Although they are famous for their hamburgers and other fare, the last time I enjoyed a shrimp salad. The waitress was very friendly and filled me in with inside Delta stuff like a new hyacinth harvester invention by Gene at Deckhands boat shop in Walnut Grove.

Three stars because of extenuating circumstances. On the way home I had to find the nearest McDonald’s to use the restroom… if you catch my drift. I don’t know which food item caused it but Wimpy’s was the only food I had today. I went to Wimpys because I had a certificate. I purchased the certificate a while back. The amount of the certificate was $ 15 and it required a minimum purchase of $ 22.50.(the current $ 15 certificates require a minimum purchase of $ 30) So I ordered: Broccoli and Cheese cream soup…3 stars($ 3.70) Calamari Ring appetizer…3 ½ stars even though it was previously frozen. It came with a decent cocktail sauce for dipping. For the price, the portion should’ve been a bit larger($ 8) The Onion Burger…4 stars. Decent burger with an onion bun that held together while I was eating it.($ 10). Burger came with a side of potato salad. Homemade but meh…3 stars Iced tea…1 star. No flavor more like colored water.($ 2.70) Wimpys would’ve rated 3 ½ stars had I not had to stop on the way home! The facility is dated but it is on the Delta and I’m sure there’s lots of action during prime time. My server was efficient but she did not seem happy to be there. I probably would not go back and pay full price for the food. Not memorable.

Wimpy’s is a staple along the Delta in Walnut Grove. Its marine store and diesel station being the primary drive, Wimpy’s restaurant/pub offers affordable American food at a a decent quality with good service. The elevated restaurant offers superb views of the Delta and a great ambiance while eating. Wimpy’s offers a variety of food but ultimately it is hit or miss. Can’t go wrong with classics like club sandwich but some of the ‘high end’ options strike out. If you are in the area Wimpy’s offers good food at a good price.

Honestly, when my husband took my parents and I here after a walk at the Cosumnes River Nature Preserve I thought he was crazy… and that I would be in for a mediocre meal at best but this place really surprised me! It’s a very dated place that needs a good remodel but don’t let that deter you. There seems to be three sections– the front we walked into looked like a very small diner(it felt crowded) with linoleum and the back was more of an open dining room with a beautiful view from the large windows. There’s a bar in the back as well. Other reviews said the food was frozen, which may be the case, but it’s cooked well and actually tastes pretty good too– not like most other places that use frozen. My family all ordered fish but I opted for their onion burger. OMG it was so delicious! The onion bun was fresh and yummy, the grilled onions were perfect, and the burger was pretty tasty too. Other reviewers mentioned the salad as nothing special, and they’re right, just iceberg and a few other pieces but the ranch dressing tasted fresh. I liked that the salad was a side option. I tried my husband’s fish sandwich and it was so good! His fries were okay but there were not too many. My parents ordered fish and fries and they really liked them too. Our meals ranged from $ 8 – 10. The service was fine. The bus boy was working his tail off and brought us water– he was super friendly. Our waitress was fine, maybe a bit too quick to get orders since we were still looking over the menu, but not rude or anything. Some little kids came in after us and she was super sweet with them and put up their drawings and showed them where they would go. We’ll be back next time we’re down in that area.

Sunday afternoon. Big group of ladies takes over the Wimpy’s bar to celebrate a 40th bday. Their reaction? Smiles and GREAT service! TASTY, savory, spicy BACONBLOODYMARYS… yummy apps. The fried green beans looks unassuming, the calamari looks like onion rings… but then… you put them in your mouth and WHAT?! WHAT?! Flavor. Awe. Some. Flavor. The best service in the entire Delta by Diana behind the bar and Linda in the café. We can’t wait to hang @Wimpy’s again.

So first off, they’re not in Walnut Grove. After getting lost, we called the restaurant and they hung on the phone to direct us. When we pulled up, a few of the staff greeted us with a big thumbs up, which was awesome. So if you get lost, call! Second, the food was fantastic. I had prime rib and my husband had chicken fried steak. Both were cooked and seasoned perfectly. We split a chocolate milkshake that was to die for. Great way to cap off our time in the delta!

After wine tasting we were looking for a place to eat a late lunch. We stumbled on Wimpy’s and had a great meal. The bay shrimp in my salad were fresh as were the salad veggies. The guys had fish and chips and rated them among the best ever. The service was great. As we sat and ate we realized we had been there years ago and were glad we returned!

Went to Wimpys for lunch today after a windy day on the delta. My turkey club sandwich was very delicious but the highlight of the meal was the potatoe salad. The service was very friendly and attentive. I would recommend this spot to anyone get the potatoe salad seriously lol…

Came by here yesterday since Giustis wasn’t serving dinner until 4 and we were hungry for just small appetizer or snack. We got chili cheese fries, chili dog with fries, a veggie burger and onion rings. All were fairly decent nothing special. Since it was labor day it was pretty busy and the waitresses were running around so they kind of forgot to get us our check so we had to ask for it. But besides that the food was okay and the service was okay. Need to come by here on the boat though next time. The patio looks nice and the bar is fairly big.

Wimpy’s is a must stop for my family while boating on the Delta. Grew up going there with my parents 30 years ago and still enjoy it today with my kids. Place is a little old, but the food is fantastic. Some of the best fish n chips I’ve ever had. We made 2 stops this year and had great food and service both times.

Love this place. We walked in as a party of 11 and were seated immediately. Food didn’t take long to come out either. My onion burger was DELICIOUS. I definitely recommend it. Prices aren’t bad either and the staff is super friendly. You can sit upstairs inside or downstairs on the deck next to the river.

The Harley Group took a ride out here for lunch from the peninsula. It was a trek out here. Boy this place is out in the middle of nowhere. The exterior of this restaurant would definitely make you think twice of going in, but don’t be fooled. Although the inside isn’t a five star restaurant, the food was pretty good. It’s a very run down restaurant. While we were there we didn’t see any boats come in but it sounds like boats dock and launch right there next to the restaurant. There were a couple of tables with people and we were the largest group, of about 18. Service: The waitress was very attentive and she was nice enough to separate out all our checks for each individual. There was only one cook so the food was a tad slow coming out but it wasn’t super slow either. We pretty much got our food about the same time. The waitress apologized for the wait on the food. Not sure if they get packed during certain seasons. Food: Best described, diner food. They had everything from sandwiches /seafood /hamburger /breakfast. I had the fish and chips and I do have to say they were pretty good. It wasn’t greasy at all or over battered. The French fries were ok, nothing special. Some of the people had hamburgers and they said it was pretty good. Some had breakfast and didn’t get a chance to ask what their thoughts were on the breakfast. I’m sure it was decent. They do have a full bar and some folks had a bloody mary and they enjoyed it. Price: The prices are very reasonable. Overall this place is very good but def a trek for me to get out here.

Love me some Wimpy’s! We’ve been here for breakfast and lunch, and it does not disappoint. We are talking«river food» here and it is excellent for what they do. Burgers are good, salads are fresh, and the breakfast choices are ample. The service is professional and the food is delivered quickly. A full bar is a good thing too! Update. Today we went for the Sunday special: Eggs Benedict. They were very good with one glaring exception– the English muffin was NOT toasted! It just sat there like a soggy, spongy blob giving the entire dish a one-note, soft texture. Who doesn’t toast the English muffin on eggs Bene? I had the server ask the cook to clarify, and indeed it was true…“the cook just warms them”. Wrong answer! A toasted English muffin adds a crispy, crunchy texture to the gooey egg and hollandaise.(It’s not a sponge to soak up water from the poached egg.) I had to remove a star for this egregious oversight. The good news is the hollandaise tasted made from scratch(not Aunt Penny’s) and the eggs were cooked perfectly. Hash browns were crispy and hot. It’s worth the Sunday drive by boat or car… just be sure to request a toasted English muffin.

We almost gave up on this serendipitous little gem a few years ago, when the economy was down. It just wasn’t consistent back then. We’d try it out now and again and are very happy that it has been back on form for the past couple of years. We’ve eaten there several times in the past couple of months for breakfast or lunch and have really enjoyed each visit. The food is fine, with a surprisingly varied menu for a Delta restaurant. My Eggs Benedict today were perfect and the Fish & Chips run a close second to the best we can find in the Delta. The toast was fresh and tasty and the country fries with peppers and onion worked perfectly. The coffee is always good. Meals have always been good value at Wimpy’s and the service is attentive without being fussy or annoying. Everyone seems happy to be there and that makes it a joy to sit and watch the boaters and wildlife. Drinks here are generally great, but my wife’s Bloody Mary wasn’t as good today as it usually is. It tasted like the insidious ready made mix that seems to be invading the Delta, rather than a freshly made one. If it weren’t for that, this review would be a 5-Star [Delta grading] one.

We have come here many times for a late lunch while we were on the water. The food has always been good and consistent. WE were out on the water early and decided to hit Wimpy’s for breakfast. They did not disappoint. I got eggs benedict and my wife and friend got the homemade corn beef hash. Both were excellent. The Bloody Mary’s were pretty good as well.

If you’re looking for a burger, fries, salad($ 8) and a draft beer($ 2.5) on the water at a marina close to Sac, give Wimpy’s a try. They also have breakfast, lunch and dinner. At lunch, they have burgers, sandwiches and fish and chips. On Sat night, they serve prime rib. The food is cheap and plenty filling. The beer is ice cold. I don’t know if you want to make the drive down to Wimpy’s unless you’re going fishing in the delta. But when fishing in the delta, Wimpy’s is a great stop. It’s convenient. They have a small marina, cement launch, nearby trailer park and Wimpy’s. Lots of big stripers have been pulled out close by.
