Specialties

We are root canal specialists. While many root canals are done by general dentists, endodontists have had two additional years of training beyond dental school to be certified as dentists who specialize in root canals. With advanced training and specialized equipment we provide the highest level of endodontic care in a relaxed environment. Special equipment allow us to perform procedures with fewer xrays limiting radiation exposure. We work with your general dentist to help you save your natural teeth. The doctors at Walnut Creek Endodontics perform root canal treatment, root canal retreatment, root canal surgery (apicoectomy), regenerative endodontic therapy and management of traumatic injuries.

History

Established in 1992.

Walnut Creek Endodontics was started by Drs. Aimar and Bernie in 1992. When their predecessor Dr. James Mandley offered Dr. Aimar the practice in 1991, the practice was moved from San Miguel Professional center to a more convenient location right off the freeway on Olympic Boulevard next to Broadway Plaza. The doctors believed this would be a perfect location that could be easily accessed from north, south, east or west with adequate free parking available. Walnut Creek Endodontics was born.

Dr. Aimar and Bernie are Bay Area natives and graduates of UC Berkeley. Aimar joined the Navy Dental Corps after his DDS degree from UOP School of Dentisry in 85. He recieved his specialty degree in Endodontics in 91 from the VA hospital in Long Beach. In 92 Walnut Creek Endodontics was born. Dr. Aimar is an active member of local, state and national dental and endodontic organizations. He cofounded the American College of Endodontics in 2000. He is married with 3 sons an enjoys sports and his family.

Bernie recieved his DDS from Univ. of Maryland Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in 84 before completing his post graduate work in Endodontics in 89 while teaching part time at the dental school. Dr. Bernie joined Walnut Creek Endodontics in 93. Bernie is a founding member of a new painless anesthetic being used in dental and medical practices since 2011. He is an active member of local, state and national dental and endodontic organizations and is married living in San Francisco.

After being in severe pain for almost 2 weeks, following a routine crown replacement, WC Endodontics found me a same-​day appointment on a Monday, and completed a painless root canal that very day. Dr. David Aimar was gentle, compassionate, and very thorough. I’m not even 24 hours out from my procedure yet, but I’m already feeling 90% better. Not sure if the pricing is competitive or not, but both the level of service, and being able to be seen the same day, were a huge relief.

The staff here is fantastic. I had 2 root canals done by Dr. Aimar and they could not have possibly gone any better. I’ve never had a root canal before coming here, but the procedure was painless and quick! Dr. Aimar let me know what was going on every step of the way and explained what was going on with my tooth. What a great place! I will be coming back if I have any further tooth issues. Very happy with my experience :)

What can I say — Dr. Aimar is so awesome — if you or anybody you know has any type of dental anxiety but you find yourself in need of a dreaded root canal — take my word for it, have your dentist refer you to Dr. Aimar. He takes the time to talk with you about what might cause your anxiety (in my case, the damn dental dam — makes it difficult for me to swallow since my throat gets so dry) — he worked out hand signals for me to use including Time Out — in case I needed to take a break during the procedure (which I didn’t). He made sure the assistant was asking if I needed water or suction during the procedure. The entire staff was awesome and made me feel at ease (third time was the charm, the first two endodontists I was referred to made me more anxious than I already was, so didn’t go through with the root canal with them. The office has nitrous which they can keep handy if you think you might need it, but if you don’t (I didn’t) you won’t get charged for it. It was wonderful to see someone in this profession that really empathizes with the patient and makes it a pleasant enough experience for me to want to Unilocal about it.

visiting an oral surgeon is never really something you /​want/​to do, but when you need one, it’s good to find a good one… and in many cases, that need is pretty immediate.
over the weekend, a «troublesome» tooth went supernova and needed a root canal (and subsequent/​future crown) pretty quickly. my dentist referred me to two surgical groups and drs. aimar and bernie were one of the two. stephanie answered the phone and immediately empathized with the plight and was able to work me in in just a few hours on a monday morning — both good things.
the process of getting into the office and oriented was quick and easy. unlike many providers who have an almost «deli-​style» take a number system, their office was peaceful and personable without a mob of people in the waiting room. stephanie explained the charges and what my individual insurance would cover so that there were no questions or surprises. my appointment came around within 5 minutes of the appointment time which was also nice.
the dental tech was easy going, professional and thorough — and got me set up in a room and x-​rayed. dr. bernie followed within just a few minutes to review the x-​rays which showed an abscess and root degradation. while dr. bernie wasn’t overly communicative (i.e.: chatty), all of my questions were answered and it left me with a sense of confidence. since i was also «squeezed in», i knew he was in a bit of a rush — juggling a few patients — but he never left me feeling unwelcome or bothersome. sure, i could tell, he had a lot on his plate, but it barely showed through and didn’t effect the (positive) patient experience at all.
the root canal was… a root canal, but again, dr. bernie was efficient, professional and left me with no questions or doubt… which is really the best-​case scenario for a procedure like this.
all in all, they helped make a very painful and stressful situation much better — and quickly… thanks!

I came here for a root canal after having a bad experience with my regular dentist completing a root canal on another tooth. What a huge difference! Dr. Bernie did my first root canal here. It was truly a pain-​free procedure. I couldn’t believe the difference in skill between Dr. Bernie and my previous dentist. What was a 4 hour production with my last dentist only took Dr. Bernie about an hour. Plus they have all these specialized instruments that ensure that all the root is out. They also use several different anti-​bacterial and decay resistant products that are non-​irritating but really eased my mind about avoiding infection. He capped my tooth with a super sturdy «temporary» filling that I could even chew with until I got my crown. I had no pain the next day!
I later came back because the previous root canal (other dentist) was causing me so much pain and nearly constant discomfort for 2 years. I ended up seeing Dr. Aimar this time because it was an emergency visit (the pain had suddenly become unbearable). They squeezed me in, consulted with me, and then got me back in that same day to take out that awful crown and redo the root canal. He found another canal that had been missed in the original root canal. That canal didn’t show up on x-​ray because it was right off the post. Instead of saying I was crazy or malingering, though, he trusted my symptoms and investigated. He got all that out, and by the next day that throbbing pain that was wracking the entire left side of my head was gone.
Both Dr. Aimar and Dr. Bernie are super patient and very kind. They seem to really care about the patients. They are also excellent in their skill! I would highly recommend them both. These guys specialize in root canals – they are truly experts. Don’t go through the pain and suffering I did for 2 years, go to a specialist the first time!

The first thing I said after my root canal was, «I thought those were supposed to hurt.» Dr. Bernie was quite excellent and my pain and comfort was his first concern. I also appreciated the assistant and the fact that I was told an accurate estimate before the procedure of exactly how much would come out of my pocket.

I had not had a root canal in over 30 years and boy, was I worried. I’ve had my share of dental work over the years and was expecting to be in pain after wards and unable to even sit in the chair to have the work done.
Dr. Bernie was AWESOME and everything went just great. Not only was I able to sit calmly in the chair, but I had no pain after ward. He saved my tooth… yeah!

You might be like me, got bad news from your dentist, «you need a root canal,» you probably went online to find out what it is, and got bombarded by way too much information. You now ended up here on Unilocal,looking up Dr Amiri to find out more about him and to put you at ease. Well, you are lucky to have been referred to this doctor, as he did my root canal yesterday, and it might sound crazy, but it was a wonderful experience. At the end of the procedure, I told them, it went better than my last filling.
Don’t get me wrong, I was scared at first, I went in with, please save my root, why do I need this, I want to go home, take antibiotics to beat the infection, and forget this ever happened. Then, and reason for the review, Dr Amiri put me at ease, explained why I needed the procedure, what would happen if I did not have it, and walked me through the entire process as he was working on my tooth. He is a very kind doctor, and when he was working on the tooth, I could tell that he was taking his time and took care in his work. Honestly, I did not research the area for «Best» doctor in town, I trust my dentist; but I am now telling anyone reading this review, go see him, you will be happy that you did; I was.
Here is the coolest thing ever, the tooth I had work done, had a crown, I swore I read online that it has to be replaced; and it had to be done by regular dentist afterwards. Guess what, he drills a hole through the crown, does all the work, and puts a filling to cover the hole. I got to keep my crown!!! Seriously, this work is expensive, and maxed my dental benefit, if I needed a new crown, it would have been all out of pocket expense, so to me, he saved me over $ 900! This is why you can’t read too much online, just talk to the doctor who will do the work; now, everyone’s case is different, but whatever work you will need, you will see how wonderful it is to work with Dr Amiri and I promise he will take very good care of you.
Not to forget his staff, they were all wonderful, sorry I forgot your names, but you were all awesome and you took care of me with smiles. Thank you!

Amazing. Dr A. went out of his way to make my experience and root canal a pleasant one. The entire staff was incredibly helpful and considerate, kind and above and beyond. I can’t emphasize enough how comfortable I was through the whole process and the feeling I have now knowing that the procedure was done with great care and precision? I know what you are thinking… Root canal. People have either a bad memory or a preconceived notion of the horrors of root canals. The specialty certification in Endodontics is obtained by Drs who have had a rigorous 2 to 3 year course of specialty training beyond that of 4 years of dental school. What you might not know is that INCREDIBLE ADVANCES have occurred in this field, such that it is NOT painful. After treatment there may a short period of minor discomfort and that can be taken care of. NOW, who you choose as your root canal specialist is very, very important. (By the way, these Drs have called me or my patients the next day to follow up and to be there for you in a way that is sorely lacking in the health care field today)
I can say from personal experience (several root canal procedures) and a dental specialist myself (another branch entirely) allow me to speak with some authority: YOU WILL NOT FIND BETTER ENDODONTISTS THAN DR. AIMAR AND BERNIE. Not only are they on the cutting edge of clinical and academic knowledge which allows them outstanding abilities; they are without peers when it comes to the «personal touch» that is so very important in a health care provider. I have so much faith in their clinical abilities that I have been fortunate to have them treat many of my own patients, and the real test: my own family.
Dr.‘s Aimar and Bernie not only care about the highest quality of root canal therapy, they truly care about the persons they treat. They take the time to LISTEN, take into account the fear and or anxiety that you may have, and address it a way that ensures your comfort. These Drs are of the highest caliber of practitioners that I have ever met. Quality and ethical treatment are always their goal in an environment supported by a wonderful and caring staff. Please do yourself a favor and give this office the chance to verify for yourself what my review raves about. You will not find better, no matter how many opinions you may seek.
