History

Established in 2008.

Our founder, Sue SKiff, has been working professionally with animals since 1985. In 1994, she took an interest in dog training, and has been working as a trainer and behavior specialist ever since; starting with teaching classes through Mt DIablo Unified School DIstrict Adult Ed program, and later working as a behavior specialist at a Walnut Creek vet hospital. In the late 1990’s, she started doing pet sitting, as well. In 2008, she decided to pursue dog training and pet sitting full time, and SIlver Lining Pet Services was launched.

Hi! I’m Sue. I have had a wide variety of career interests in my life. In the 1980’s, I took my love of nature and wildlife, and got degrees in zoology (BS) and ecology (MS). For a few years, I worked as a research wildlife biologist. In 1993, I moved to the S.F. Bay Area (where I had grown up) to care for my ill mother. At the time, I was dealing with a dog who had aggression issues. I embarked on a journey of learning about how to help my dog. From there, I continued to learn so that I could help others who were having problems with their dogs. I attended Toastmasters to get more comfortable speaking, & be a more effective teacher of group classes. At the same time, I became extremely interested in improvisational theater, and began taking classes in it. This helped me with shyness issues, made me a better listener, taught me about being present, and helped me to be more flexible in solving problems. I empathize with my clients, and I don’t do cookie-​cutter dog training.
