Renaissance ClubSport

We had a large number of rooms booked for this past weekend for graduation. The service we received from the start with Matt O’Neil the hotel sales manager to each and every valet, waiter and hotel staff could not have been better. Always a smile on people’s faces and they took the time to get to know my family. This added so much to our stay. Add to it beautiful, clean rooms, great food, a wonderful pool area and beyond compare gym and fitness area and I would never stay any where else in the East bay area.

Club Sport has a great Reformer program. The best thing about it is Amy DeLong. She is the BEST instructor I have ever had. I have been at reformer classes all over the country and have never had someone that is as knowledgeable as Amy. She is incredibly pleasant to work with and you definitely get your moneys worth. I would recommend any age and anyone who wants to get in good shape and be able to stay that way for years to come to try this out.

Hall ways and the rooms (we changed 2) smelled like mildew. Breakfast took 60 minutes for delivery and it was terrible. We order egg benedict, the eggs were hard boiled on top of dry English muffin. How sad that no one take pride in this place of how they serve their customers.

I received and used two one-​week free trial passes for the Renaissance ClubSport gym during the summer of 2015 and this review is in regard to that time given the length and depth of the free pass experience. First off, I must say that this is the best gym/​fitness facility that I have used. There are such a variety of fitness options (free weights, machines, group fitness classes, indoor basketball courts, indoor volleyball court, indoor cycling/​spin, heavy bag for boxing, salt water pool, etc.) that provide for numerous work out activities and the facilities are fantastic. While the facilities are extremely clean, I will say that during the time I was there, the basketball courts had a number of towels and water/​gatorade bottles lying around the edges of the courts in addition to basketballs/​volleyballs. Granted I was using a guest pass, it would appear to me that members/​guests could dispose of such towels and water/​gatorade bottle in the appropriate receptacle (of which there are many and Renaissance ClubSport does recycle, of which I am a fan) and place the basketballs/​volleyballs back after use. That said, and as a fan of basketball, I appreciated and enjoyed the air conditioned indoor basketball courts (with a clearly visible digital clock) and there are two half courts for basketball/​volleyball use separated from a full basketball court and there is never lack of a ball to use and you can easily keep track of the time. Also, there are numerous tvs to catch the score of a sporting event, free towel service, a separate area that people generally use to stretch, and free cold water with a rotating fruit/​vegetable addition (e.g., watermelon, cucumbers, strawberries, etc.) that I found to be a refreshing perk. All in all, the facilities are outstanding and has practically everything that I could want or need in a gym facility.
Second, as someone who had previously never tried a free group fitness class before at a gym, I ended up trying as many as I possibly could from a number of disciplines (e.g., Circuit training, High Intensity Interval Training, Insanity, Zumba, Yoga, Tae-​Bo/​Kickboxing, Indoor Cycling, Aquatics, Core/​Ab classes, etc.) with a number of instructors and I found them to be fantastic and addicting. While I did not use the actual traditional «gym» facilities (e.g., free weights and machines), much, if at all outside of a self-​propelled treadmill to warm up or cool down on occasion since I had access to a «gym» at my apartment complex, the biggest value to me were the group fitness classes. I learned a variety of exercises which I have since incorporated or use with my own fitness regimen and discovered (or re-​discovered) fitness disciplines that I enjoy and found to be of use even outside of a traditional gym facility. Furthermore, as with fitness in general, you can constantly challenge yourself and learn new exercises in such a setting, and I would highly recommend taking a group fitness class at this facility as there are numerous class options and times available and you really can’t go wrong in trying one (or more than one) out. I also did not have any issue signing up for classes as a guest for those that asked for or required advanced sign-​up, and yoga mats are provided for those interested in taking a yoga class. Also, and while a pool, is not high on my list as a gym pre-​requisite, the pool and the pool area is the nicest I’ve seen for a fitness facility and the men’s locker room is quite clean.
Third, all of the group fitness instructors were friendly (granted I enjoyed some classes more so than others) and helpful, as well as the members (or guests) and staff. While, it is definitely possible that I was recognized by Club Sport employees as I made the most of my guest passes and left/​returned multiple times a day during the duration of my guest pass, security could have been better as it seemed to me that I could have walked right in/​out without being asked for my pass or to sign-​in on multiple occasions (although I will say that security seemed to be better during my second free trial pass).
Finally, while the monthly membership fee is admittedly very expensive ($ 100+/month) and I could not justify the cost given I had 24 – 7 access to a very nice gym at my apartment complex (which was within five minute walking distance of Renaissance Club Sport and I had no real need of parking or the locker room facilities) as well as an outdoor basketball court within a 5 – 10 minute walk of my apartment complex and a pool at my apartment complex, I guess you get what you pay for as this fitness facility was the nicest I have used to date. The membership staff follows up once after the free trial although they are not «pushy» at all and do not consistently follow up with solicitations. I would highly recommend utilizing any free passes offered by this facility and would consider membership in the future depending on financial and other fitness considerations.

I’ve been a member since 2007. I love this facility — the gym is exceptional, the salt water filtered pool has great lap swim hours, the staff is warm and welcoming and the Club Blue bar/​dining is an extra perk for gathering with friends after a great workout. The class offerings and incentives for keeping fit and healthy are vast. Amazing place that strives for excellence.

Been a member since 2003, I just love this place. Clean modern facilities, basketball, volleyball, spa, restaurant, café, outdoor bar and TV by the heated pool and jacuzzi. Awesome group fitness classes and trainers. You get what you pay for here.

Such an amazing place. Everyone there was super nice. I took my wife there for a date night and was surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a Sweet. I also planned a surprise to have a bottle of wine with rose petals on the bed. They did a beautiful job. They also have full gym. I will definitely be coming back to this place.

Review: This is a very nice hotel. As with most Mariotts, they can use some upgrades to their rooms for the updated technology. It is pricy and the parking averages about 22/​day. Tips are expected and highly encouraged. The front desk is has about 1 person usally staffing it and can staff two if needed. At the time of this review, the pool was closed. Breakfast is not complimentary, but if you are a Gold member, then it is included. The hotel is close the main roads and easy access to downtown. Hospitality could be improved, but overall, it’s a good place.

So I decided it was time to quit 24 fitness as I have been there for 19 years and needed a huge change. I needed a classy place to come workout and relax too. I joined here this month and love it! I wanted more from a gym not just weights and classes and I’m soooo glad I did. They have classes practically all hours of the day, towel service, dry and steam sauna, everything I’m looking for in a gym. I will be adding my son to my membership as soon as summer hits. Yes it’s pricey but worth it! I’ll be here for life!!!

Sport club is really by far the best gym around, they have great spa, they have nice swim pool and open all year and heated to around 70 f. I go there few time a week and just workout as much as I can. I like go there in summer they have open bar in pool and it’s like nice place to hang out with friends and family. There under ground parking and comfterble to get in to gym.

Great hotel with excellent service. We enjoyed our stay but not the fact that it’s valet only parking. Valet is cool and all but tipping the guys every time they get your car (which is a total dick move if you don’t) can get annoying when you don’t carry cash. Overall though, a beautiful place with well appointed rooms.

Came here on a mini trip with my sisters. This hotel is really neat. We were able to enjoy our time at their gym which is probably better than any other gyms. It’s very neat and clean. They provide towels and water and have a variety of workout machines and equipment. We joined a pilates class in the morning just for the heck of it and we ended up loving it. It seemed as though the classes get pretty full.
The hotel itself was nice. I liked how the bathrooms are spacious. We enjoyed our time at the mini bar and woke up to eat their morning breakfast buffet on the first floor which is about $ 16 dollars per person. You get a selection of the usual breakfast items, eggs, bacon, toast, fruits, cereal, milk, juice, coffee, muffins. You can also order any type of omelette of your choice (all white, scrambled which veggie, sunny side up, etc.) and also fresh waffles that are made on the spot. The portion is pretty big so if you just want a bite, you should ask your friend or family to share.

This place accommodates other interests, for any family members in tow. The day care is unparalleled, and activities abound. Pool, sports, restaurants, bar, lounge, business center, etc etc. Reliable parking as well! I got into my first show while training here.

My mother-​in-​law got us a very nice surprise and got my husband and I a suite at the Renaissance Hotel for us to crash to right after our wedding. She picked this hotel since it is super close where we live. We were super tired right after the wedding and we both started getting sick. When we checked in, we were glad it went quick and the staff were very friendly and congratulated us. We got to our room, my husband unlocked the door and «carried me over the threshold» (lol) and… someone else was in our suite! Wtf?! Apparently, there was a big mixup while checking in as we had the same last name as the man in our room. Lol, the man in the room was my father-​in-​law which also came from our wedding that night! Anyways, that’s why we weren’t mad about it, it was so funny!
The room was super nice, very big, modern and comfortable. Big bathroom, nice tub and shower. The next morning, to compensate for their mistake, they gave us free room service breakfast. Breakfast was huge, healthy and tasty. We couldn’t even finish.
We had a good experience, overall! An unforgettable experience! ;)

This is a beautiful property that I wished I could have enjoyed more of! Great alternative if you want to stay somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of San Francisco. Walking distance from the BART (public transportation), making it ideal for traveling back and forth from the city.
Rooms and bathrooms were spacious and comfortable. On-​premise restaurant has good food and service if you don’t want to go far for dinner. Members of our party where Marriott Platinum Elite so we got vouchers for the complimentary continental breakfast buffet (good variety with all your breakfast basics). They have a nice gym which, regretfully, I did not get to try out. If you forgot something, they also have a «shuttle» and if you arrange ahead of time, they’re more than happy to drive you to a local store.

If you are in the Bay Area and want to stay outside of the city, I highly recommend the Renaissance. Walnut Creek is east of Berkeley. It is a 40 minute drive from San Francisco without traffic. If you are visiting, avoid the weekday morning rush hour and the everyday rush hour in the afternoon. I drove into San Francisco before 8 AM twice on the weekend and left after 7 PM. I did not run into much traffic. If you plan on driving to wine country or Sacramento, Walnut Creek is also in a nice spot between San Francisco and those locations. It is a very nice suburb. The Renaissance is arguably the best hotel I have stayed at. The entire hotel looks great. My room was very clean and comfortable. It also has a full gym connected to the hotel that includes two full court basketball courts, racquetball courts, aerobics, spin classes, etc. I did not spend too much time in the hotel so I did not have a chance to utilize those features. The gym is complimentary with your stay. If you enjoy running outside as I do, I recommend the Contra Coastal Canal Trail which is right by the hotel and runs through Walnut Creek.

They don’t thoroughly clean anything here. Same mystery brown sports on the wall & the same sweat drips and hairs stay on machines. I’ve seen them «clean» it’s with those 1980’s feather things that primarily just move dust around.
The pool is over run with screaming splashing kids… Even though there is two other pools for people to keep their bratty kids.
Biggest problem is (if you actually work out & sweat) is this building is like a refurbished telemarketing office or something. The windows don’t open– Low ceilings, terrible lighting with NO ventilation. You breath everyone’s sweat & musky hot air. It’s gross! Non of the cardio machines have a fan so you just get hotter and hotter till you are soaking wet or pass out. The only circulation is like 3 – 4 $ 15 Walmart ceiling fans and 1 or 2 portable fans… So ghetto!

Please be very careful if you are a patron of Renaissance ClubSport.
Do not bring anything that’s valuable because the gym attendant would open YOUR locker without checking ID to anyone who’s pausing as you, and hand in YOUR property. Wait, maybe it’s not any random person, but it was a carefully orchestrated stunt which you’d never thought you’d be a victim one day…

My fiancé and I came for a Unilocal event here! We took a spin class that was literally one of the best I have ever taken and I am an avid spinner/​biker. They have a drop down screen that plays video of the music and the equipment was all up to date.
The yoga class had more beginners in it so the instructor rightfully geared it towards them, but I prefer more breathing and relaxation then jokes.
Then we had a little happy hour sampler from their restaurant! Wow. Yummy fig and goat cheese sampler and beef appetizer. Also I really liked their clams! Yum! I would highly recommend this club for locals and even for an afternoon brunch. If I have folks in town I would definitely point them towards this place a potential stop.
