History

Established in 2009.

One Big Fish Green Events was created by Sadie Waddington with the mission of creating unique and personal events that are also kind to our environment.

Sadie has more than a decade of experience in event planning. She began her career as the promotions manager for a display company, then moved to producing corporate events. Sadie has most recently been working in the non-​profit arena on large fundraising events. These experiences contributed to her decision to branch out on her own to help promote eco-​friendly choices for her clients.

Having personally experienced the excitement of being engaged, followed by the daunting job of planning a wedding, Sadie has firsthand knowledge of how to make your special day a wonderful experience. Her involvement in your event can be as limited as being a ‘day of coordinator’ or as involved as a ‘full-​service wedding planner’ guiding you step by step through your planning experience.

We asked Sadie to do partial wedding planning for us and day-​of-​coordinating, as we pretty much knew what we wanted and needed help fine tuning some details… She was respectful of all of our choices, did not try to push us and only suggested vendors when we asked her to. Sadie was very organized, on time, detail oriented and calm throughout the whole process.
She not only did exactly what we asked of her, but she also went over and beyond our expectations, as she thought of some details we might have forgotten about, gave us some cool ideas we would not have thought of, and tactfully reminded us of deadlines and any loose ends.
She also did amazing with the vendors the day of the wedding, there were a lot of different installation/​drop off/​pick up dates and she juggled it all well. Thank you, Sadie.

Sadie helped two people that weren’t super jazzed about planning a wedding forget that they ever had any hesitations. I really don’t know how we would have pulled it off without her. Our wedding was the best day ever thanks to Sadie and her team. We did full planning, I really wanted someone there with us every step of the way. We found it super helpful.
I scoured the internet searching for someone that felt right, not someone you’d see on one of those horrible wedding shows judging your every move and convincing you of all the things you needed. Feeling very discouraged after speaking to planner after planner, I had a call with Sadie. I just knew after that call that she would take care of us and it would be a really great working relationship. She is warm, welcoming and most important — down to earth.
Every detail was taken care of, even ones we would have never thought of. She has a great network of partners that really helped us out, from lighting to makeup. It all worked out with great people. Sadie was great about scheduling calls with us to make sure we were on track or just to check in and see how we were doing. All super helpful.
Before, during, and after the wedding, countless family and friends raved about Sadie and how great she was. If you’re on the fence about getting a planner DO IT — its the best thing we did. And do it with Sadie.

Sadie was our wedding planner for a 3÷28÷2015 event, and we are so happy we found her!
We chose Sadie because of her experience with green events/​wedding planning (not to mention, for her wonderful personality!). It was very important to me that we make as small an environmental impact as possible with our wedding, and Sadie was totally on board. She cut our research time for EVERYTHING by providing lists of vendors, locations, and tools that were all either green businesses or green-​minded. She didn’t bat an eye when I said things like «all biodegradable» or «absolutely no plastic.»
Sadie has a fantastic network of wonderful people she has worked with in the past. I always felt that she had our personalities, aesthetics, and (importantly) budget top of mind whenever she made an introduction. I researched almost nothing – I just asked her who to call! The time and energy she saved us by providing a list of venues to check out, not to mention caterers, florists, photographers… I can say we wouldn’t have found the incredible team we ended up working with, had it not been for her.
When it came to budget, she was totally approachable. She never recommended anything that was out of reach for us, and she was more than willing to negotiate with vendors on our behalf.
Our wedding ended up being on the same day as one of her other weddings, which was a huge bummer for us. But even then, Sadie made an incredible hand-​off to Bianca, who took over as our day-​of coordinator. There wasn’t a single detail overlooked, which I know spoke to both Sadie’s and Bianca’s teamwork and attention. I was able to dance all night knowing that everything was taken care of!
So, if you are on the fence at all about hiring a wedding planner, don’t be – he or she is the best investment you will make on your wedding day. Second, if you are looking for an experienced, professional, kind, and well-​connected green wedding planner, Sadie’s your woman. I am just so grateful she was a part of our big day.

In one sentence, if you are looking for a wedding planner then you should go with Sadie! She is absolutely fantastic and amazing! Tremendously organized, extreme attention to detail, and an ability to bring the greatest calm to any stressful situation. Furthermore, she is just a pleasure to work — always being quite cordial and easy to talk to.
When we had any issues (such as trying to find a florist at the last minute), Sadie was a great resource being able to provide wonderful and creative solutions.
On the weekend of our wedding, Sadie and her team (thanks, Amie and Bianca!) were awesome! We had some late-​breaking «issues» that they helped us through (eg. last minute changes, wardrobe malfunction) and the wedding went flawlessly. We are sure there was some craziness going on behind the scenes but they made things go so smoothly that we didn’t notice it.
Simply put, we had the wedding of our dreams thanks to Sadie and her team! Thank you for making our special day such a success!

Sadie is just amazing. She was our coordinator for our wedding about a week ago at the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley. We brought many challenges: 200 guests, a desire for a non-​traditional wedding, a welcome party at a separate venue, a hybrid Indian/​American ceremony, and very strong opinions! Sadie handled everything with aplomb. Not only is she extremely organized, she is also a total professional, even in the most stressful of situations.
Her connections in the world of vendors were really helpful, and she took the lead on making introductions and managing our relationships with a florist, sound/​lighting/​music team, caterer, transportation, and others. She helped us track our budget and recommended cost-​saving measures as well. We had many long Skype calls with her, and even though she gave birth to her second son just months before our wedding, her attention to every small detail of our big day never flagged.
On our wedding weekend, Sadie and her team kept the party on schedule – no small feat, considering the challenge of transporting all our guests to the venue and moving them through the various events of the evening. Sadie did this in the nicest and most low-​key way you could imagine. On top of all her smarts, organizational skills, and killer instincts, she is a really delightful, down-​to-​earth person. Sadie, we could not have done it without you!

Sadie is absolutely lovely and charming. She has a way about her that is positive and calming and makes you know everything will be taken care of. One of the reviewers here wrote that she was kind, warm, and patient. She so totally is all of those things.
Sadie coordinated my daughter’s wedding with grace and professionalism. It was always a joy to meet with her. She was full of wonderful ideas, well organized, and excellent at keeping everyone involved on top of things.
My daughter planned a fairly small wedding (about 60 people) so initially we weren’t going to spend the money on a planner. Hiring Sadie and her team was the best decision we made! I can’t imagine having done it without her. Love this woman!

Sadie joined our planning team four months before the International Marine Conservation Congress began and immediately took charge of planning our opening ceremony and reception at the Smithsonian’s Sant Ocean Hall in Washington DC. She was
professional, exceptionally organized, a strong communicator and a
pleasure to work with.

The logistics of the conference were quite complicated with
international speakers, multiple locations, transportation needs and
over 1,200 attendees. Sadie selected vendors within our budget who could provide excellent services and meet our Green Initiatives. The
Smithsonian reception was a huge success and a great way to kick-​off our conference.
Sadie stayed on to help with trouble-​shooting once the conference got underway. One of many situations where Sadie was invaluable was in assisting one of the presenters who had not managed to get his information into the program in time and was very upset about not having enough of an audience at his presentation. Sadie not only came up with a brilliant solution, but was also able to put the presenter at ease.
Later that day I was witness to the presenter thanking Sadie for her
work and telling her how well the session had gone.

Sadie is coordinating my wedding which is in March of 2010 in Oakland, and she has been amazing! Just in the last few weeks she has recommended vendors, visited my wedding site, and gotten me organized! I feel confident she will make my vision happen, she is so organized and great with vendors and with keeping me in the loop.
She has also made some great recommendations about making my wedding more eco friendly without increasing my budget, in fact some of her recommendations have saved me money!
Sadie is so easy to get along with and really puts everyone at ease. I know i’m in good hands.
