Kyle recently helped with Trust administration for my mother’s estate, as well as facilitated the creation of my own Living Trust. Both he and Melissa, his assistant, were tremendously accommodating, thorough, and highly professional.
My first appointment with him was a consultation a few months ago, but our meeting extended beyond what you would expect from the typical consultation — a ½ hour with just the basic information. Kyle actually met with me for over an hour and explained in great detail the Trust process and what I could expect after my mother passed. At the end of the consultation, he sent me off, armed with extremely helpful information. A few months later, after my mother passed away, I contacted him again, and was impressed with the fact that he noted our previous conversation and remembered what we had discussed; basically, it was nice to not have to go over everything again.
He is very personable, so it was easy and a pleasure to work with him during what is normally is a difficult and stressful time after a loved one dies. No one looks forward to dealing with the «business of death,» but it has to be done. I highly recommend Kyle and Melissa for anyone who has to deal with it, or for anyone who needs to prepare for it.

I cannot speak to the services Kyle provides as he missed my appointment. I made an appointment with Kyle after outstanding reviews here on Unilocal.But in all honesty I was disappointed, he left me hanging. I found him to be very unprofessional, he or his secretary could’ve called to reschedule instead of waiting until I walked in the door to tell me Kyle is not there. A note to Kyle: You need to understand other people have things going on too and a person’s time is valuable.

Kyle was great in putting together all my estate planning documents, setting up a trust and making sure that everything that should be in the trust was put in the trust. He even took care of the official recording of the transfer of my house deed. There were seven different documents including my health care directive. He was a pleasure to work with, listened to what I wanted, and counseled me gently. He was efficient, sent me final copies of everything (both hard & soft).
It’s been 2 years since then, and though I haven’t had a need to see him, the lasting impression is of kindness and honesty. I also remember his services were very reasonably priced. I recommend him highly.

Kyle was absolutely stellar. I had to contact him in the midst of trying to make heads or tails of wills, trusts, deeds etc. shortly after my father’s passing. He read and interpreted documents that had been prepared by a previous lawyer (which were worded in such a way as to give us difficulty at some financial institutions — with these legal documents, the precise wording can make a significant difference, as it turns out!) He cut through the red tape, whipped up the affidavits we needed, smoothed the whole process by giving me the most simple and direct advice, responded to questions in a timely manner and provided just the right measure of tact and humor during a difficult time. (For me personally, a sense of humor really helps!) He also helped give me a little extra advice about some related issues that arose later on down the road. His assistant Melissa was also super helpful in sending emails and relaying messages (and patiently listening to my complicated questions.) They even provided me with scanned PDFs of everything which was useful for dealing with the myriad of institutions we had to settle things with. Thanks again for your great service! A+.
(Also, the Oakland office is super cute, like an old-​school lawyer’s library in a little Victorian house. That’s neither here nor there, but it gave me a nice reassuring feeling every time I walked in.) :)

We had the best experience doing our trust with Kyle & his assistant Melissa. The whole process was seamless and easy. Kyle is friendly, knowledgable and just all around great guy. Has a great sense humor too :) His assistant Melissa is the sweetest and always responds to emails promptly. She has an amazing energy about her. Highly recommend this firm!

Kyle has been a huge help in managing my Mother’s estate. As we found out my mother had only a few days to live, a few loose ends were realized. Kyle worked tirelessly to quickly tie up those loose ends and set the estate up properly before my mother died.
He has always been available at the drop of a hat for all of the questions any 22 year old who is managing an estate would have. He has made the worst time of my life a lot easier and I highly recommend him to anyone.

Honestly I went to see Mr. Johnston after reading several of the outstanding reviews here on Unilocal.But in all honesty I was dissapointed. I am sure that he is an oustanding Lawyer but he left me hanging and I found that to be very unprofessional.
I went to him seeking help with a power struggle between myself and my aunt who had POA over my mother’s estate. At the time I hadn’t seen my mother in what was then five months. He told me to draft a letter to my aunt letting her know of my legal rights as sole heir. It took him almost two weeks to respond to my initial draft.
I then was told to send another letter to my aunt (which I did) and if she did not respond favorably he would then draft a letter himself. This took another two weeks before he approved the final draft. Well this is where he left me hanging. He never drafted a letter for me. I was willing to pay for this letter. After sending him several emails and leaving a couple of messages he never responded back leaving me totally in the dark and not knowing where to turn next.
I am not sure if it was because I didn’t have the amount of money required for his services. I am not sure if he felt that this was case was a no go. I don’t know a thing. What I do know is that he totally dropped the ball on me at a time when I needed legal help and advice. And, when I was feeling emotionally drained. And it would have been far more professional to just say «I am unable to take this case» or «In order for me to take this case I will require this…». However I received none of that. Just a disappearing act.
He did give me a few bits of sound advice. But not nearly enough to get me the right to see my mother again. I am not doubting that he is a good lawyer and that he can get the job done. It’s just that for me he didn’t seem to have the drive and passion that other’s seem to report. And that left me feeling really dissapointed.

I recently used the services of Mr. Johnston to help me create a Trust and Living Will. Kyle is very professional, exhibited patience and never made me feel rushed and never «dinged» me as some attorneys are known to do for an occasional question via email or phone call.
At the end of the day, the fee was exactly as per our agreement and I found Kyle to be professional, thorough, compassionate and a genuinely good human being whom I would recommend without hesitation.

I cannot believe how nice Mr Johnston was! My husband and I had a very complicated trust to put together. We had some unconventional requests. Mr Johnston put together a document that got all our needs/​requests included, and didn’t charge more than the original quote. In fact, we overpaid him and he returned the money immediately!

Amazingly agile mind, personable, helpful… the kind of man who makes needing an attorney seem like a useful idea instead of a hurdle.

With my mother showing signs of dementia, the time had come for me to take control over managing her finances. Before coming to Kyle, I had previously discussed options with two other attorneys which were quite onerous and very expensive, on the order of *many* thousands of dollars. I contacted Kyle on the recommendation of a financial planner. He presented me with an option that was expedient, required scarcely any effort on my part and was a fraction of the cost of options presented by the other attorneys.
I left Kyle’s office feeling like a suitcase full of bricks had been lifted from my shoulders. My family and I are deeply grateful to him. Based on our experience, I can say with the utmost confidence that Kyle is a kindhearted person who genuinely cares about others. I was so impressed that I sent emails to friends and colleagues recommending him and am now writing my very first Unilocal review.

I interviewed several attorneys before hiring Kyle. It was the best decisions I could have made.
My father’s dementia had progressed quickly. However, we could not find a will or any estate planning documents. Kyle helped set up a trust for my dad, dealt with social security, pensions issues, and facilitated in the selling of his home, etc. He handled family issues and financial concerns professionally and with tact. Dad was finally able to move to an excellent ²⁴⁄₇ care facility. When Dad died, Kyle handled the final distribution of his estate and was a great support to my family.

He handled both with the highest degree of professionalism.
