We teach salsa, tango, swing, waltz, cha cha, rumba, foxtrot, country two-​step, nightclub 2 step and 11 other partner dances. We can help you have fun and gain mastery from beginning to advanced levels. We help you look and feel great on the dance floor!

Wedding Dance and Choreography

Preparing for your first dance? Karen and Michael help you look and feel great for this special event even if you have never danced before. Karen and Michael choreograph and teach you and your wedding party to dance so you are comfortable and confident for this significant event.

History

Established in 2006.

Karen and Michael Partnership is a California General Partnership co-​owned by Karen Lile and Michael Arntz. Karen and Michael provide partner dance lessons, wedding dance choreography and group dance lessons to the public, corporations, non-​profit organizations and social groups.

They provide mobile DJ Services for weddings, anniversaries, theme parties and special events throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay Area.

They teach private dance lessons in Walnut Creek, Oakland and El Cerrito and teach group dance classes in Berkeley, Oakland, Lafayette and Walnut Creek.

Karen and Michael are also promoters who bring in live bands and create great parties for local venues, including Ashkenaz in Berkeley, Yacht Clubs and private country clubs throughout the SF Bay Area.

Karen: «i love to dance. I began as an adult, so I remember being a beginner. I enjoy teaching students of all levels and helping them feel comfortable and confident on the dance floor.

Both Michael and I have had formal teacher training, certifying with high honors. Since 2006, we have taught hundreds of students, taking students from absolute beginner to the level of their choice, including advanced.

I believe that the learning process can be fun and it is rewarding to see our students relax and laugh as they learn and progress

My now husband and I engaged Karen and Michael to help us create, learn and perform our first dance for our wedding. We had ten lessons with them, where each week we would collaboratively create the dance step by step (literally) to suit the song we chose, linking the steps and sections together till the whole dance was complete. They were really wonderful and fun teachers — sensitive to our capabilities, attuned to our tastes and ideas, and most importantly, great at building our confidence. It was particularly helpful to have a male/​female pair of teachers to match off with us.
We surprised ourselves, family and friends with a great performance, that was relaxed, graceful and joyful. We couldn’t have been more pleased, and highly recommend them.

Our first dance was great! we learned our dance after 7 lessons, by then we were really comfortable. They were super flexible when my schedule was super tight and patient with my now husband and I.
Everyone said that it was a great dance and many clapped. We surprised them!
BTW we were really bad dancing with each other until we took their lessons! Oh and we learned in a month to dance beautifully to Stand By Me.

With zero dance experience or talent, we hired Karen and Michael to help us choreograph a first dance for our wedding. Their teaching style was fantastic. They were able to instantly assess our dancing ability and teach at a speed that we both felt extremely comfortable with. After learning some basic steps, we soon progressed with confidence to some more complex moves and it wasn’t long (maybe four or five lessons) before we had the basic structure of our dance sketched out. After ten weeks of dance lessons, we were able to dance to our wedding song with a confident swagger that we were able to reflect on the day and we owe it all to Karen and Michael. Not only were they able to teach us patiently and with extremely clarity, we found ourselves having a ton of fun throughout the process, which is saying something given that we were such novices at the beginning of the process. We would highly recommend working with Karen and Michael if you looking to find a way to surprise everyone at your wedding with your first dance. You won’t be disappointed.

I chose Karen and Michael after reading the lone review on Unilocal to help my boy and I learn a dance for our wedding day.
We worked with them for approximately 2 months. I was very skeptical at first, not sure if they were going to be able to help us since I am very uncoordinated and can’t dance AT ALL. We arrived with a song picked out
and after hearing it, Karen showed us a few styles of dance that would work for the style and pace of the song. We picked one and after a few lessons decided that we’d change the style altogether. Karen and Michael were very patient and accommodating to our learning styles and after a several weeks they were able to help us establish a routine.
Our wedding dance turned out amazing and all of our family and friends were impressed (and surprised) that we could dance so well!
A few things to note, Karen needs 72 hours in advance to cancel or reschedule a lesson or you get charged for the lesson. Also, we had our lessons out of Karen’s house in Walnut Creek and since they scheduled the lessons back to back you can’t really show up early so we found ourselves sitting outside of their house in the car waiting for our exact lesson time.
Overall, we LOVED working with Karen and Michael. They make a great team and they work very well together. It was awesome having them both at our lessons as it was easier to learn when you could both have a partner to practice with. We already miss our dance lessons and wish we had a good reason to continue taking them.

We hired Karen & Michael as our DJ and MC for our recent 50th anniversary dinner/​dance. They are fantastic! They put together a program and organized a time line of events. During the MC portion Karen was excellent at connecting with our guests, making everyone feel very comfortable and introducing our out-​of-​town guests in a most amusing and special way. Kendall Bean who is part of their team was the pianist and is just outstanding in his ability and talent. Michael suggested various pieces of music and helped us choose our Special Dance. We also took dancing lessons from them and that proved invaluable and their ability to teach non-​dancers to dance is outstanding! We were really lucky to find Karen and Michael to work with us for our wedding dance. They were good teachers who moved at our pace, answered questions as we went, figured out when we needed them to slow down and break things down even further for us. We ended up getting their help with the choreography too. Our dance was pretty complicated (Viennes Waltz) and our dance floor was really small; they were really willing to think through the best use of what floor space we had, especially considering our experience level, and also did their best to make us look good for our first dance. My fiancé was curious about learning to ballroom dance but his experiences before Karen and Michael weren’t great. After their class, he says he definitely feels more confident and comfortable learning new dances because he now has a solid foundation of the basics. Besides being really great teachers, Karen and Michael are fun to work with as well; we laughed a lot in our lessons, which was much needed on days the dancing was challenging.
