Fitness 19

I’ve been coming here a few years now and it’s pretty much an oldies gym with a lot of seniors sitting on machines, gabbing and reading books. That’s the downside of a friendly gym, but Jerry always made it worthwhile. Recently a new look which works well with the space but the manager is new, with no customer interest unless you are signing up for a deal or young, female and cute. Seriously, anyone near the desk and especially the manager should look up and acknowledge when you enter or leave. The young girl with long dark hair is always friendly, but that’s about it!

I got my gym membership from the fitness 19 in San Ramon when I worked out that way and absolutely loved that location. Friendly staff and clean open facility. I have been going to this fitness 19 in walnut creek for over a year now since its location is convenient to my home. All I can say is you certainly got what you pay for… I pay $ 9. Recently they said they were «remodeling» and I got excited that perhaps there would be an expansion for this tiny gym, maybe more AC since there never is any, or simply some new machines. Literally the dumbest none remodel ever. Barely anything is new, and once again they just threw all the machines you would want to watch tv on. Towards walls. And now there is absolutely no space to do abs. If you want a cheap gym then I highly recommend this location but in the next few months I think I’ll be switching to somewhere else.

Decent facility, just wish they’d communicate with the members more often. Was there on Monday morning and was met by a sign inside that stated renovations were coming soon. I spoke with one of the attendants who said he didn’t know when it would begin. Went there Wednesday morning and was met by locked doors. When I called later I was told that there was no notice posted Monday, and the closing for renovations on Wednesday was «a last minute thing». I’m not sure they understand that «last minute» things can often inconvenience their members.

Dirty people come here, too bad for me. Put my glasses in the cup holder on the treadmill and when I took them out some gum came along with it! Gross get a clue no brainers

I was contacted by my wife today in hysterics regarding our 8 month old child. She had dropped our child off at the Kid’s Club Facility to an attendant who could not be bothered to show any type of emotion to see our son (note: said attendant was not Elizabeth or Lupita). After dropping him off, my wife began to work out circling back every so often to check on our son. When she noticed he was still sitting where she had placed him initially and crying hysterically, she asked the attendant why she did not try to pick him up and console him to which she responded «Oh…we aren’t allowed to pick the kids up anymore.»
While I understand the legal aspect from a liability standpoint, this information would have been nice to know beforehand, especially since we have had him in there several times where the attendants were holding the children when they needed to be consoled. Upon contacting the manager, he told me that in the six weeks of him being the manager that he just now noticed that the attendants were holding the kids (which is troubling in and of itself). Moreover, the manager, Kyle, more or less shrugs his shoulders as to say, oh well… sorry.
It’s a shame that the club transitioned from someone like Jerry who took such great ownership to an apathetic manager, and I get it — you get what you pay for, which was fine when it was just me and my wife.
We’ll be taking our business elsewhere and I strongly advise parents dropping off their kids that cannot yet walk to think twice.

I have been going for about 3 years. Things have changed recently. Jerry the previous manager has retired (in late April 2016) and now they have a new manager. Jerry was able to get the gym’s Wi-​Fi working prior to his departure… now it no longer works… I mentioned this to a staff member and nothing has been done for 3-​weeks now. Also, I mentioned to staff that they need a new soap tray for one of the showers in the men’s room. As of today, both the soap tray and Wi-​Fi issues have NOT been addressed.

I have been going here long enough to write a review about the place. If you are looking for a simple gym with a mix of cardio, free weights, machines and cables… this is the place for you

I have had the opportunity to work out at 4 different Fitness 19 locations, and this one is my favorite. The staff are always friendly, greeting everyone when they come in and saying goodbye when you leave. I’d like to specifically give a shout out to Jerry. He was extremely helpful and informative regarding their InBody 230 scale, which not only measures your weight, but also muscle to fat ratios, etc. He spent quite a bit of time with us explaining what the printout means and the proper ways to go about reaching our goals.
I also appreciate the fact that this location has showers. It’s a nice added bonus. Most of the people who frequent this location are here to work out, and I also really like that.
The only slightly negative thing I can say is that sometimes this location is rather crowded, especially right after work, but usually the wait time for any machine is only a few minutes. I do wish they were open a little later on the weekends, but the 8pm closing time still leaves ample time to get in there and get my work out done.

Although I love my trainer and a few of the staff I must say the bathrooms are deplorable. So disgusting and dirty I really try not to use them. More often than not, no toilet paper or seat covers but worse yet, garbage on the floor and literally filth on the floors and walls of stalls.
Also, staff needs to monitor people using the weights/​machines. Yesterday someone had two benches taken up with weights and was over doing squats but refused to give up either bench. I realize it’s cheap but come on Fitness 19.

The Fitness 19 in Walnut Creek is the perfect location for my after work workout. It’s not as close to home as the location in Concord; however, the convenience of being on my drive home, the employees who work here, and the gym over all is what really draws me to this location.
Unlike the Concord location, the machines here look very well maintained. I did not see one rip or tear in anything, and everything looks clean. Plus, the machines themselves look much more modern. Even though they are a smaller gym, they still have locker rooms with showers. I personally feel that it’s an integral part to any gym.
We were able to talk with Jerry last night who helped us out on their InBody 230 scale. Needless to say, it was a real wake up call, to not only see my weight, but the relation to muscle mass I have (which apparently is a lot), as well as how much fat I would need to lose to live healthier.
That was an important question that Jerry asked, and that has stuck with me: «Do you want to lose weight? Or, do you want to lose fat?» It’s an important and totally relevant question. He talked for a while, explaining what the printout from the scale meant. For anyone in need of assistance with a healthier life, using that scale to your advantage is definitely a good first step.
For the price, and for the service that is provided, Fitness 19 is the perfect gym for me.

Its very clean and you cant beat the price but management is terrible and treats customers like they are a bother. Also be warned that they offer a free training session when you sign up but when we showed up for our supposed appointment the manager guy Jerry told us no we couldnt have it and that it doesnt do anything anyway. So my husband and I took off work to come to an actual appointment that was made and he just turned us away. He said if you want training you have to pay for it. So just be aware the «Free training session» is just a lie to get you in the door. Also if you have to call in the girl that answers the phone seems to just forget how to talk. Really unprofessional. Kind of funny though. Other than that the equipment is great and like I stated they keep it very clean. If you want a place to work out and not have to interact with a lot of the staff this is the place to go. But if you want help Id go somewhere else for sure. We are going to try another fitness 19 and see if it is any better.

I was super excited to check out this gym after I got a flyer over the weekend; their advertised monthly membership is by far the best in the area. Where they lack is customer service and cleanliness. I decided to stop by the facility; when I walked in, there were 2 people behind the desk, I received no simple curtsy gestures until I said «hello» after I was standing in clear view for at least 30 seconds, when I was informed he (possibly a personal trainer) was «busy and would be with me shortly.» Following that interaction he allowed me to give myself a tour in which I was able to see the females restroom was not too clean. I am the kind of person who will get to know the staff and make efforts to enjoy my gym experience, but when I am not greeted by a simple hello (as if I am a burden to the facility)… It’s a total bummer; as a health advocate and professional I would very much like to send people to such an affordable gym.

Rustic as compared to modern day health clubs but that is the way I like it. There is ample cardio apparatus to get your heart going, free weights to build strength and machines to build confidence. I grew up in gyms that kept the toilet seat up so I feel at home training with free weights. They have a clean locker room and trainers on staff for novice or fancy people. For the price, this place is hard to beat.

This place is really affordable for any gym newbie. The manager was super nice when I went in as a guest. My friend wasn’t sure if he could bring me in and when we got there, the manager said (I think his name was Jerry) that he technically can’t bring in guests but he still let me in. Even though this gym is on the smaller side, when being compared to 24 hour fitness, I think it has every machine for every body part. Check this place out!

Great little gym gets the job done. I’m satisfied with what I get for the price, but would be willing to shell out a bit more $ for updated cardio machines, more robust wifi (streaming music is constantly stopping which is distracting-I’ve switched to podcasts to avoid this) and better A/​C during the summer when it cooks in there.
Like I said– it’s a no-​frills, no-​nonsense gym, but a few improvements couldn’t hurt. All-​in-​all though it’s a great value!

Omg! I haven’t been to this gym in months so I thought I’d cancel it since I’m moving out of state anyway. I just called, Jerry picked up, and I said I wanted to cancel my membership. HE HUNG UP ON ME! I called back. Jerry picked up, I said «hi, I just called about canceling my membership.» And bam! HE HUNG UP ON ME again! Are you freaking kidding me??? What the hell kind of service is that. I am so angry right now.

I’ve been coming to this gym, on & off, for a few years now. I pay very little in membership fees, and although the child care prices just went up, they’re still hard to beat. It’s only about 6 minutes from my house, and the staff is friendly.
The newest manager, Jacob, helped me adjust my membership a few days ago. I wanted to discuss child care rates, and change my current membership from 3 days a week, to a full membership (allowing me to come in on any day). He’s young, but very professional & made me feel valued as a member. He’s a super nice guy.
I tell my friends & family: There’s not many frills here, it’s very basic. But if you’re looking to get in & get out, for a more than a reasonable price, Fitness 19 is where it’s at!

I ride my bicycle 60 to 100 miles a week, but ended up with knee issues that landed me in PT. Knowing I wouldn’t keep up with the special knee exercises at home, I looked around for a gym for resistance training, primarily, since I’ve got cardio covered.
I read the reviews of Fitness 19 here on Unilocal,then went in to check it out. It’s clean and super affordable, and while I have seen reviews saying there’s no air conditioning, there’s definitely at least SOME air conditioning. (I asked, and I can feel it blowing on me on the leg press.) I immediately signed up for training sessions with Fred, who has a background in sports medicine, and he’s absolutely wonderful. A month into my membership and training, I cannot say enough great things about Fitness 19, Jerry (the manager) and Fred (my trainer). I wish I’d done this sooner!

Its one of the smaller gyms that I have been to. But the place is neat and the bathroom is clean. Its always busy when my co-​worker and i go (we work right across the street… so convenient). She has a membership there and they let her bring me for free :)
There are always a few machines that are not working but they usually fix it within a day or too. The employees are always polite and look happy to be there. They only thing that we would love to see change sooner than later is the air conditioning. The fans don’t put out a lot of air.

Still loving the intimate environment of this gym. Family feel. They keep it superclean. Today I saw Jerry, the manager lifting up the stairmaster machines and vacuuming! Totally Rad!
Super Cool place to workout without all the bells and whistles. No broken down equipment.
