diPietro Todd Salon Walnut Creek

Paid $ 100 for a «tint» and an additional mandatory $ 4 service charge for «the assistant’s insurance». What? Shouldn’t this be paid for my diPietro Todd Salon? The receptionist did not know much else, I thought the charge was absurd.
The women that shampoo your head do such an amazing job. I tipped her separately, she was so good. The tint was fine. The salon is nice, and there are a few parking spots in the back if you get there early. Otherwise it is metered parking.

My best hair experience in all of these years getting my hair cut and colored. Dylan and Maggie are fabulous and so are their staff! I have recommended them to several friends and have yet to hear a complaint!

This review is for management and the owners of the salon. If I’m being honest I love my hairdresser and my colorist. My issue is with the operations of the salon. I came in for a haircut and at check out I noticed my bill to be $ 20 higher. When I inquired about this with the receptionist, she stated that my stylist had been with the salon now for 3 years and so she was entitled to charge $ 20 more a haircut. I thought to myself… well okay but it would have been nice to have been told that up front when I made my appointment? Three weeks later I go in separately for a color and the same thing happens at check out where I notice my bill is higher. This time when I inquire about the raised rates, the receptionist says that EVERYONE’s rates have increased. Really? Whatever happened to communicating and transparency with customers and clients. Not good in my humble opinion.
None of their products they sell in the salon have pricing on them either. Also, if you call in and ask how much something costs you’ll get a different outcome at check out. I believe all of these terrible tactics are by «design» and not just pure coincidence. :(

I went into this gorgeous salon very nervous to cut my extremely long hair. I knew that I was long past due for a cut and was recommended to see SHYLA. Cutting my hair has always been a very stressful experience… except for this time. SHYLA listened and took lots of time with me. Before I knew it, my cut was done and she then took the time to style it beautifully while also giving me tips on how to recreate this style at home. I highly recommend SHYLA, she is gracious, patient, professional and still very fun. I can’t wait for my next service with her!

Lovely staff, great environment, complimentary coffee/​tea, guest parking or meter refill provided, and very affordable! I loved how bright it was inside!

Caroline’s been doing my color for years, and I can’t recommend her enough. She’s super sweet, but always honest about what will work and not work with my coloring, hair texture, etc. I’ve had great cuts, too, by John and Katelyn!

Danielle Hough is the best colorist I’ve ever seen! She is talented, passionate and very experienced with color techniques. She is a true talent and very passionate about her career and her clients. When I walked into the salon, Danielle welcomed me and let me know where to change and asked what kind of tea I would like to have. She is very warm and personable. From there, we walked upstairs to the colorists area, which was very busy and energetic. I loved the atmosphere at DiPietro Todd! The staff is all very friendly and knowledgable. After my color, Danielle gave me a relaxing shampoo and blowout (which I soooo needed). I left the salon with wonderful new color and some beachy waves (Danielle’s favorite). I even took the long way to my car to show off my new hair. :-) If you are looking for a talented colorist, Danielle is the best of the best!
Also, DPT salon has a small parking lot, so check there first before parking on the street.

Let me start by saying they do a lovely job here at this salon. But it feels cold and unwelcoming. I did love the stylist Mikey who cut my hair! He really listens and gave me a great cut on several different occasions. The colorist I saw was very nice. I wish she had been more open to listening to what I wanted. She had an idea of what would look best on me and while it did, I sort of resented that she did not listen to my ideas. That said, it did look very well done and complimented me well. This salon is very pricey compared to other salons in the area. Parking is a bit nightmarish. Because of all these negatives, I found a new salon I am in LOVE with. If you are planning on going there for a haircut, see Mikey!

I had a phenomenal experience at DPT. I have not ever been to the Walnut Creek location, and it has been years since I visited in the city or Mill Valley. I have to say that this is one of the few places I feel comfortable just booking a cut & color, showing up and knowing it is going to work out well. I think there is a level of talent and professionalism, maybe because of the continual training and hair academy, but this is a safe place to go if you need someone new.
I scheduled over the internet, was set up with Mikey for my hair cut & Annie for my color. They were outstanding. My hair looks amazing and there were not tears or fear when the scissors came out.
Is it expensive. Yes. Do they have to products, services and several people working on you to make sure you get everything handled yes. I reccommend them without reservation and if my regular guy skips out to Bali again when I have an event coming up, I will be back!

I was refered to Dylan for a haircut recently and I could not be happier. He not only listens to what you ask for, but he also gives you advice on what may or may not look good on your face structure. The pricing is slighlty higher then some other salons however, he spealizes in strictly cuts and he is worth every penny.

JESSICA! She did wonders to my brunette virgin hair! She made this hair milestone impeccable. I generally never re-​book at any kind of salon, but I did here because I was so pleased with my service. Everyone was nice yet laid back. Awesome vibes all around.

Dylan listened to what I needed now but also took into account where I wanted my hair to be eventually. Based on our convo he cut my hair accordingly and I’m very pleased… much more so, for sure, than my 1^st experience here.
The problem in reviewing a salon is that the salon, like this one, has a great reputation and quality that precedes it, but one out of several stylists can make or break your experience; which was my situation. If you know a salon is great but are unhappy with your stylist, don’t hesitate to return and request someone else. It worked for me.

I have been professionally coloring my hair for over 20 years I had Annie highlight my hair over a year period. Each time I brought a picture or discussed my desire. This last visit when I said I am not satisfied «Annie states I think we are having a communication problem» in front of the entire dry bar! For $ 450 a visit. Wow not service I would expect from a «High End Salon». The salon needs to teach the stylist people skills! Will never come back !

I’m writing this review because my experience at this salon was so amazing I felt I needed to share! I was recommended by a friend who comes here to leave my old salon where I wasn’t completely happy and just try diPietro. I knew it was a little pricier than some of the other salons but I was willing to try it out and ready for a change.
First, the customer service was great. Everyone was so nice and welcoming from the front desk girls to the assistants. I felt completely at ease the moment I walked in.
My friend sees Katelyn for her hair cuts and she insisted I see her too. It’s always scary going to new stylist but after Katelyn was so patient with me and having a detail consultation I was not only comfortable but so excited for my new do! Her assistant shampooed me and that was just amazing. The shampoo alone makes the price worth it!!!
Anyways, I loved everything about the salon. From the front desk to Katelyn. I highly recommend anyone and everyone to see Katelyn too!!! I have pretty difficult hair and not only did she do exactly what we talked about but the final result blew me away. I’ve never had such a beautiful hair cut along with the best blow dry ever!!!
I will warn anyone who comes here the parking was a little tricky. They have a parking lot but it was small and full so finding a spot on the street and paying the meter was stressful. I will be back!!!

Having been to countless bay area salons over the years, diPietro Todd initially piqued my interested when I learned about the thorough and intense training program it offers new stylists. Because of this top-​notch education, I always feel confident when I walk in that I’m going to be leaving with a state-​of-​the-​art cut or color experience.
Since moving to the east bay, I’ve become a faithful client of Mikey’s at the Walnut Creek location and he does not disappoint. Mikey’s laid-​back demeanor is both casual and friendly and he is a master with a pair of scissors! He always listens to exactly what I want and delivers his magic with efficiency and precision.
Everyone at this location is warm and professional, offering a cup of coffee and treating me like a princess for an hour. I almost wish my hair would grow faster so I could come in more often! ;)

After going through a phase of trying to save money with hair cuts, I got frustrated at the results and wanted a really good cut I could be happy with. Enter Dipietro Todd!
On my first visit, I showed my stylist Samantha a photo I’d shown several other stylists. She was the first one who looked at the photo and understood what I wanted – a messy, choppy look that could go flat or wavy. It was love at first cut! I went back to her until my recent move away from the Bay Area, and was so happy with the results each time. She always understood exactly how to make my hair look great.
The front desk gals are always super-​friendly, and even though this is an upscale salon it never gives off a snobby vibe. If you are looking for a great cut in Walnut Creek, this is the place to go.

I am writing this review for Stacy. I recently visited her to get some highlights and they came out perfect. She is really fantastic and she is very knowledgeable about her craft. She is very warm, yet professional– did I mention talented?
I can really appreciate her ability in being able to honestly advise me as a client on what works best for my hair. I am definitely going to be making another appointment.
They have a super clean salon. In addition to giving the best shampoo/​conditioner and blow out styling service.

Waiting to start dating until after college means that there’s a chance you could find your 20-​something-​year-​old self Googling «what to do after a break-​up» in the event that things don’t quite work out. Surprisingly, or maybe not so surprisingly, enough, Thought Catalogue and women’s mag writers were split when it came to the «cutting hair» action point. «Don’t do anything drastic and purely driven by your tumultuous emotions!» «Go out there and give yourself a fresh start.» Sigh.
Luckily for me, I had not had my hair cut in two years. Did I type-​stutter? Yes, two years, so I was already leaning toward the latter of the two opinions. On top of that, I have one of the most kick-​butt, ride-​or-​die, get it done gal pals in the entire universe, who not only made sure to load me up with heart-​healing chocolates, but called up her stylist, John Mok, and booked me an appointment with him last Wednesday night. Jacque C., you’re the bestest!
When we arrived at the salon, we had some of the women at the reception desk snap some before photos, I put my coat away, and then grabbed a black gown. We were both offered something to drink, but I was too nervous to want to imbibe anything. My hair was mid back length, and I was contemplating chopping it all off in favor of a pixie-​ish bob, a la Victoria Beckham (
), or an angled bob like Mary J. Blige’s platinum one (
).
Soon enough, we were whisked back to see John who remarked on Jacque’s ability to bring him all her friends, haha. It’s true. Earlier this year, Jacque gifted a mutual friend of ours, Lisa L., with a new haircut for her birthday. He did a fantastic job with her, so I knew that I was in good hands. After exchanging greetings and laughs, John asked me what I had in mind. I showed him the two photos and he immediately got to work giving me some points of consideration.
Mary J. Blige was up first and he told me quite mirthfully, «You know that’s a wig, right?» When I showed him Victoria Beckham, he made a couple of remarks about Posh Spice’s angular face shape, and how that cut would look different on someone with a slightly rounder face like mine. Moreover, he didn’t recommend that I cut it as short as hers because it would highlight the roundness, and if I was sensitive about that, he would recommend ending my haircut below my chin.
I love that John was super upfront with his tips, but ultimately left the decision between the two to me.
After a nice shampoo experience with his assistant, I was back in the saddle and ready for my transformation — angled bob, please.
An easy, laugh-​filled conversation later, I looked in the mirror and broke out into a huge grin at the finished product. John did an amazing job and I felt 110% pleased with the results. He gave me a couple of tips, and showed me some styling techniques, on how to maintain my look before we parted ways, and as Jacque and I headed out to dinner, it was with a significantly lighter mane and, dare I say it, heart.

I believe my review is LONG overdue.
I’ve been going to diPietro Todd in Walnut Creek since my college days (which has been a few years, 4, 5? :O) and I just love going to Jon. He just KNOWS my hair. I don’t even know my stupid hair.
Low down:
I have wavy, long, and sometimes frizzy hair. Because I’ve only gone to Jon, he understands that I don’t necessarily want any new crazy style, but I just want to trim my hair and make it as healthy as possible. Well, a little style doesn’t hurt, and he does just that. He gives me the best long layers while still giving my hair the healthy snipping it’s begging for when I brush it (I can’t think of anything worse than looking down at your hair and seeing DISGUSTING, DRY, AND BRITTLE split ends. Had I not gone to Jon… my scissors at work and I would have had an ugly date cutting dead daisies).
I really don’t want to recommend Jon… because that will mean more people will book him and his prices will go up (apparently, the stylists get to amp up their price depending on how busy they are… so don’t book with him! :P) and I will go INSANELY poor.
That being said, it is a bit pricey, but thankfully I only go maybe every 5 or 6 months (I KNOW). And as always, Jon makes everything right to the point that I make myself believe I should come back half a year later. I’m not high maintenance obviously.

My hair has a split personality: curly in the front and almost straight in the back. Once or twice a year, to remedy this, I get a perm. That’s right, a perm. You know, like your grandma had. My person did an amazing job these last five years, but she moved to South America so I started looking for a new one.
None of the salons I wanted to go to in Oakland offered perms, so I figured, «Well, there are a bunch of rich old ladies in Walnut Creek. I’ll go there!»
I met with [name redacted] and we talked for about five to ten minutes about what I wanted: nothing 80’s-ish; loose, loose curls. I said that I’d rather use a curling iron in the morning than have too curly locks. «Err on the side of looseness,» I remember saying.
My hair is short and my former stylist always used lavender, black and orange rods. I told [name redacted] this and she showed me some that were pink, saying they’d be just right for my length. She was aloof, disengaged and exuded a snotty, «too cool for school» vibe. Still, and shame on me, I ignored my gut feeling and figured, what the heck, she’s the professional. My hair was in [name redacted]‘s hands.
Fast forward two hours and $ 200 later. I left the salon looking like a poodle. A POODLE. One with hair so curly it’s shrunken up like a cashmere sweater that’s been run through the clothes dryer. On high.
Needless to say, I won’t be back.
