Complete rip off in tires quoted $ 600 for the set and got an invoice for $ 1000. Never again

After about a year of listening to my Toyota Camry squeal at stoplights, I took it in to Goodyear Auto where James and his mechanics not only found my squeal (due to a loose bracket) but also found, and alerted me that my rear left wheel bearing was worn and breaking.
After fixing my wheel bearing and making my car MUCH safer, James offered me an excellent deal on replacing my Timing Belt and all four struts which were both in desperate need of being fixed.
James and the team at this Goodyear auto were friendly, flexible, honest, and knowledgeable. What I liked most is that they cared about my safety, and did best to suit the tight budget I’m on.

I’ve been coming here for years and decided to do a review. I was shocked to see some of the poor reviews on here. I took my car in for an oil change today. Excellent customer service! The staff are very nice, very attentive, and as a loyal customer I have noticed that they build a great rapport with all their customers. My car and I always drive happier after we leave here =D

Rip off artists. They seriously quoted me $ 4,000+ in repairs that «needed» to be addressed on an oil change… right. Won’t be back, sad they operate their business this way.

The staff are more salesman vs mechanics. No, I dont want to add fuel additives. Yes, I actually bought the air filters online and I can install those myself. Please keep treating your clients like uneducated fools.

Second time here but not sure if I am coming back. Employee (Jeff) was pushy about extra services and oil change took two hours instead of one. First experience was not like this second visit. Will probably look for someplace else next time.

I just took my Tesla to Certified Tire Goodyear in Walnut Creek. Jason and the team were extremely helpful. I had a tire that had already been repaid once by the Tesla service center (removed a nail and patched it). But after a month the tire kept loosing air. I called them and ordered the tire and it arrived that same day. I took the car in the next day and as they were looking at it they thought it may be just the valve stem. They replaced that, refilled the tire. Then they took the tire to the dunk tank to see if it was loosing air anywhere else. That is when we noticed another screw in the tire (where the hell is my wife driving this thing?)! Anyway. They patched that hole and verified that it held air. Since the Tesla does not come with a spare tire I had them mount the new tire on the rim and give me my old tire so that I could use that as a spare (once I find a rim for it). They did all this and still only charged me for the new tire! Great service! Great guys!
One of the other posters thought you can get a flat fixed for $ 15. Everywhere I have been lately to get this fixed was the same price $ 40, even at Tesla. These guys went above and beyond and have earned my tire business from here on out! Thank you guys!

When you ask if the tire change is going to take long and they say no, they’ll do it right away…2 ½+ hours is about an hour longer than I would have guessed. On top of that, they couldn’t get the tires aligned… what?! Isn’t that what you do???
Finally, do you really have to completely change my seat position? You’re just moving it into your garage and it’s not like I’m 5’2″. Move it back, lower it, recline it. Seriously? You’re driving it 20 yd!
Doubt I’ll be back.

These guys here are the best! Ive dropped by on several occasions just hoping they had time to fit me in and they always take care of me. They are soooo nice and funny too. I feel comfortable here and never feel as if they are taking advantage of me being female and nit knowing much about cars.
I definitely recommend this location for any car repair issues you may have. :-)

I went there to get a flat fixed. I was at the mall so it was convenient. The man at the counter asked if I wanted nitrogen in my tires. I said not really, the air we breathe is 78% nitrogen already. he said «It’s free with the repair». I said cool… just fix the tire. They told me to come back in an hour.
The bill they handed me was 39.95.
It didn’t even list the tire repair. It just had the cost of the nitrogen.
I complained and was told that 39.95 is what they charge to fix a flat.
I was in a hurry, so I paid and left.
I received a call later telling me that I needed to return the 30 miles to the tire place because they had left the end cap off of my tire (hub cap). and they knew it was mine because I had the only miata that day. I complained again about the price. they said that’s the price. so I called their parent company. I spoke to a gentleman who said they would send me the hubcap end piece.. so I would not have to miss work etc to get it .but would not refund any of my money as my car «needed» the nitrogen. I Figured «screw it». whatever. I will never go back. They sent the car part to my girlfriends house in Concord «signature required». being there is no one there during the day, I had to go to the concord post office, wait in line for the damn part.
The repair was was a 15 dollar maximum repair. They claimed to have «rebalanced «my tires. (the whole car was just serviced and the tires were balanced already) another thing I did not ask for.
These guys are crooks. Incompetent crooks. They had no clue what my car needed. they just got all the money they could.

I had numerous tire problems after purchasing from another tire place so I took my car to Goodyear which seemed like every 2 weeks to get them checked and filled. They never charged me for it nor tried to sell me on new tires because technically there wasn’t anything wrong with the tires… it turned out to be a different issue from another mechanic… long story… but basically the guys here were really super patient and helpful about it. I did end up purchasing tires when the time came for them and havn’t had any of the previous problems!
The customer service has always been excellent and I notice how nice they are with other customers there too. I’m happy to have found them.

I have gone to this Certified Tires numerous times and I had many complaints from them. As of 2012, I’ve never been back, nor will I ever come back. I do not trust one of their store managers, as he will try & charge unnecessary maintenance on your vehicle that are NOT needed! Also., he will never take any responsibility for the actions of his company.
When I first came here a few years ago, I figured that corporate auto shops in the city of Walnut Creek was a place to be trusted. In the beginning, I did get excellent service; but the past year or so, I’ve had numerous issues with them.
The first issue, they put in the wrong oil when I had an oil change. My vehicle requires the 5W20 oil, but they put in the 5W30 oil. When they discovered the mistake, they told me that they have to clean my system. They didn’t offer me any discounts whatsoever. All the manager told me was. «The person who made this mistake, no longer works here.» It still bothered me that they didn’t offer any discounts on the extra service. This incident occurred on May 29^th, 2012.
The issue that really bothered me happened on September 15^th, 2012. I had my previous oil change done back on May 29^th. When I took my vehicle in, the store manager at the time told me that they couldn’t get the oil filter canister cap off. They claimed that the cap was worn down, and the previous person who took is off, damaged it without using the proper tools. Their store manager then asked me. «Who was the last company that did your oil change?» When I told him that it was «YOUR company»., he seemed surprised. I could tell from his eyes and his body language. He quickly changed his tone of voice and explained that it wasn’t a big deal and that they can just order that new part from Toyota. I asked him how much, and he quoted me over $ 35! When I told them that since they were the last ones to remove my oil filter cap, it was their responsibility to replace it at no charge. Instead., the store manager checked my vehicle history and said that I was only at their company on September 2011 and May of 2012. When I told him that I had a 30K mile checkup in January of 2012, the store manager tried to blame that company for damaging my oil filter cap. I told him that when I came on May 29^th., NO ONE from your company told me that my oil filter cap was damaged, nor that it was difficult to remove. Their store manager refused to take any responsibility; so I couldn’t get my oil filter replaced that day.
In January of 2013, I went to a different Certified Tires in Pleasanton, off of California Blvd. I had them order a new oil filter cap in advance. When I had them do my oil change, they told me that they replaced my oil filter cap. When I asked them on how difficult it was to remove it, they said «Not at all!» When I replied «WHAT?!?» The employee knew he gave the wrong response, started to stutter, and quickly said «Uh, I mean uh., it was difficult, but we had the right tools.» I started to believe that nothing was ever wrong with my oil filter cap, and this was a total ploy to force their customers to pay for extra parts & services that are NOT necessary.
My recommendation., AVOID both the Certified Tires & Service Centers in the Walnut Creek location, and also their Pleasanton location off of California Blvd.

If you don’t want to be kept waiting a long time, make the first appt in the morning.
I brought in my car on Sat morning at 8am for an oil change and had an appt. I left there at 9:25.
I won’t buy living socials for 3 oil changes again. These things expire and I wasn’t tracking the expiration date so I missed out on the 3^rd oil change. Yes, my fault and no need for me to come out to WC for an oil change again!

Don’t do it… just go on to the next place–
Needed tires. Got tires, look ok, why the funny green caps… Nitrogen. At $ 9, YES nine bucks a tire, $ 48 for Nitrogen, ladies and gentle men step right up and we can sell you a bridge to nowhere too.
Damn! Why did I not look at Unilocal first? Why did I not have my glasses on so I would know that they are selling me something that is as free as the air we breathe… Or at least should be.

(by my husband:) Flat-​out dishonest. I took my truck in for an oil change with a coupon in March 2012. I do not drive this truck every day, but wanted some maintenance done before a weekend trip. When I went to pick up the truck, I was advised the vehicle needed front brakes. They were very adamant and even a bit alarmist, as I mentioned I was going to the mountains. The paperwork even states «front brakes at ¾MM,» which sounds like they are close to gone. I also told them the current brakes had only 30k miles on them. They insisted the brakes were on the verge of being completely gone, and to «get them done ASAP.» They also mentioned that my shocks were «all original» so they tried selling me new shocks (funny, the thing rides just fine).
Anyway, as I said, I do not daily drive this truck. After less than 3,000 more miles on the vehicle, I set out to change the front brakes myself in July 2013. Lo and behold, after getting the pads off, I compared them to the new pads I purchased. The old pads still had at least 60% of their material. If I hadn’t already purchased new parts and removed the old, I would’ve just re-​assembled the brakes with the old pads… the brakes would’ve lasted many tens of thousand of miles more.
I don’t know if the dishonesty stems from the tech that worked on my truck or if it is systemic throughout the store, but rest assured I will not ever return to this establishment. I can only imagine how often they are able to get one over on folks who trust them with their vehicles.

Before I rant let me say two nice things about this business. The people I’ve interacted with are good people, and treat their customers well. Also, I’ve had no long term issues with any of the repair work they’ve completed. So ultimately, I went in for a repair and got a repair, so there’s that. HOWEVER, don’t even consider coming here if you want to do anything else but wait around for your car to be done.
I’ve had service done here twice and neither was a good experience. When my dealer in Concord switched from Saturn to Chevy they were having some transition pains, so I thought I’d try this place out since my employer has a standing 15% discount with Goodyear. I don’t remember what exactly I brought it in for, but I ended up getting a brake job. I showed up within an hour of opening. After kicking around in Walnut Creek for a few hours, they called and said they had an issue. They’d gotten it apart and realized they didn’t have the parts or the computer or something to put it back together, and they had to wait until tomorrow to get it from one of their other branches. I own a Saturn, which I’m pretty sure is a common car. It should not have been that hard. I picked it up the next day in the afternoon.
So the next time I just went there to buy some tires, because I figured they were a tire store, that shouldn’t be a problem. I made an appointment, and showed up on time and bought the tires. I asked what the ETA for installation was and they told me that there were a ton of cars waiting for the shop so it would probably take a while. I mentioned that I’d made an appointment and they essentially told me it was first come first serve. So what’s the point of an appointment then? OK fine. 6 hours later I get my car back.
And now, I’m stuck going back there until my car dies because unless I want to pay my dealer $ 200 to get my tires rotated, I have to go there for the included rotation with the purchased tires. Didn’t think about that when I bought them. I never go there unless I have a ride home, because it takes way longer than I can entertain myself in Macy’s.
Finally, I hate being told to get repairs that are completely unnecessary. I’m sorry guys, every car does not need a complete shock/​strut replacement every 50k miles. If I can jump up and down on my rear bumper and it springs back, it’s fine. I know this is your franchises’ party line but it still annoys me, and makes me not trust any other repair recommendations they may have. I have no problems saying no to everything except the free rotation after all this nonsense.

Stay Away from this Place!
2 years ago, my husband purchased four tires from Certified, because they had the best price for the type of tires we needed. We’ve recently taken a few trips up north, and a have a few more coming up, so my husband asked me to take the car in to have the tires rotated. (He had made an appt. for 2pm.) When I approached the counter at 2pm and told the sales person about my appt., he immediately responded in a rude and irritated manner. After I repeated our last name twice, he decided to look up our file on the computer. In the rudest tone you can imagine, this guy tells me that we bought the tires two years ago and haven’t had them rotated, and he can’t imagine what condition they’re in, etc. Basically, telling me that we’ve neglected the tires, and now we’re probably going to need all kinds of work. He was immediately setting me up for additional work. After looking at the tires, and seeing the mileage we’ve put on them, he starts barking about «how chewed up the edges are» and «the tires should’ve been rotated a while ago», that they’re «definitely going to need an alignment with the rotation», da da, da da, da da. I felt like he was scolding a two year old for touching something breakable. The guy couldn’t have been more rude, degrading and condescending.
We went inside to start the paper work, and he immediately starts this routine about for an extra $ 69 (above the work done today), we can have free wheel alignment for 3 years. So I called my husband and put him on the phone… Suddenly, Mr. Cranky Pants becomes Mr. Nice Guy. He spoke to my husband in the nicest tone, explaining everything, and at the very least we need the tires aligned for our safety and the longevity of the wear on the tires. My husband agreed to the alignment for an additional $ 89.00, but asked the guy to call him if any other work needed to be done. After he gets off the phone, Mr. Cranky Pants resurfaces and tells me the job will be done in an hour. But, he takes my phone number so they can call me when the car is ready.
Two hours later, I hadn’t heard from anyone, so I returned to the shop. The car is up in the air w/​o a single tire on it. Mr. Cranky Pants is gone, and the guy working the counter is on the phone w/​an optometrist’s office, trying to get prices for laser eye surgery w/​his VSP insurance. I wait and wait and wait, and the guy sees me, but continues his phone conversation about having one eye done vs. two. A third guy comes in and asks if I need anything. «Yeah, how about my car that was supposed to be ready over an hour ago?» «Oh, we just need to get the tires back on.» In the meantime, Mr. Cranky Pants reemerges, tells me that he spoke to my husband about future work that is listed on my receipt. I finally pay and I’m headed home, two and half hours after bringing in our car.
When I got home, my husband was fuming. It seems that Mr. Nice Guy (to him) told him that we needed over $ 2, 000.00 worth of additional work. All if which he knew was a bunch of BS. (We have a friend who is a mechanic and confirmed this w/​us.) When I told my husband about my experience w/​the guy, we decided that we’re NEVER stepping foot in that place a again. My mistake? After Mr. Cranky Pants was soooo nice doing a sales BS job on my husband, I should’ve turned around and walked out right then and there. It was one of those situations where I was blindsided by what was taking place, and couldn’t think fast enough to respond appropriately. But we know better now. Take it from us… Stay Away from this PLACE!

On a Friday at 10am I was told that it was not busy, and to bring in my Fleet vehicle, a 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan with 50,000 miles. Automatically I’m a target for exploitation and add-​ons for unneeded work because it’s all paid for by my company. A red flag for any auto shop.
I drop my car off at 11am and am told 2 hours. Okay, fine. I need 2 new tires in the front and an oil change; they were going to check the brakes as well. Luckily, the shop is located in a nice area of Walnut Creek with lots of restaurants and shops, so things could be worse. At 1:30 I call to get a status update, and am told that there’s a part that’s on it’s way, but they’re stuck on 680 due to an accident. Okay… whatever. 3:30 is the new time I’m given. About 4:30 my boyfriend and I walk back in the general direction; it’s pretty obvious that my car is still on the lift, so we poke around at the thrift store across the street, as well visit the Whole Foods for the AC and a cold beverage. Finally, at 5:45 we go back over and sit amongst the tires to wait this out… they close at 6, so it must almost be finished, right!!!
We fill out the final paperwork, and drive away. We make it out of the parking lot and there’s a clunking sound on the passenger’s side in the front, as well as a noticeable rattle coming from the back of the car. We return immediately; 2 of the mechanics believed the rattle to be «a flapping hubcap», which was not the most reassuring news, since this was an original tire, and it never made this sound before. When all was said and done, there were 2 conclusions made:
1.) Woops! We left a wrench of sorts in the tire hub in the front… as soon as that was removed, the problem was resolved
2.) No, it’s not a flapping hubcap. They removed the tire and realized they had missed putting on a spacer/​washer of sorts. They added that and it was fine.
The most disappointing part of this whole debacle was the fact that the mechanics recognized these issues from their test runs, and yet returned my car to me with the problems persisting. Did they really think I was going to drive away and not notice the abnormal sounds coming from my van?
To make a long story longer, as I’m driving, it seems that there’s an abnormal braking on my tires. I accelerate, and it’s more difficult than normal. Then I get on Hwy 24, and going downhill my car noticeably slows when I take my foot off the gas. I understand you need to «break in» new break pads, but it was as if the new pads were rubbing 100% of the time, rather than being only when I was braking. And the lug nuts on the front tire were HOOOOT, which implies that something is abnormal from too much friction.
The next morning I returned to complain of the problem, and to leave it there all day for this issue to be resolved. This is at 8 am. At 2:30 I receive a call saying that they aren’t noticing the issue, and that I can come pick it up. It does drive like normal now, which leads me to believe that they «fixed» something. Though they would never admit it. What a headache, and an unpleasant experience all around.
OH, and to top if off, when I had to sign for my $ 0 worth of work on the 2^nd day, I was given a print out of my own copy. After I returned to my car I was reviewing it, confused as to why the $ 1,000 from yesterday went up to $ 1,100 on this new printout? They better not have charged me. Then I look at the name and vehicle information. They gave me the printout for an entirely different vehicle with an entirely different customer’s name. I feel sorry for the 2003 Subaru Forester with $ 1,100 in repairs, and whose receipt I now have. It’s scary when mistakes at the administrative level are that bad… apparently in the office and in the garage.

They gave me a good deal for tires and detailed inspection of my car, but I felt like they were trying to push me to pay more (like, keep suggesting me to purchase four tires instead of only two).
