Trail of Terror

As far as Halloween, haunted, experiences go, this one is tough to beat. The level of detail and thought is incredible. Yes, the lines are long and you have to buy tickets in advance BUT that just speaks to the popularity which is well-​deserved. The experience itself is quite long so I do feel like you get your money’s worth. It’s tough to spend less than $ 20 on anything these days and this event is quite unique. As for the «scare factor», it can be a bit variable. If you end up at the end of a larger group or if things get backed up, you may miss some of the real scares and anticipation that you would get at the front of the pack. I know it’s tough for them to control but it does change the experience significantly. The problem with shrinking the groups and slowing things down would be that people would be complaining about longer wait times SO it’s kind of a lose-​lose. That being said, definitely worth doing each fall to get your Halloween fix. They really do an awesome job.

I have gone to Trail of Terror in the past and was never disappointed with being somewhat scared. Went this past week and have to say WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT it should be named TRAIL TO THE FUN HOUSE! Went with a 10 and 12 and two 16 year olds and they were cracking up instead of being scared. Sorry to say this terror groupies but look for another venue. This is a BUST. It was way better years ago. Each year it’s loosing it’s steam to scare people. Won’t go ever again.

Good times! If you like to watch scary movies. Don’t want to spoil… Details area amazing… You will enjoy the trail. From the moment you park which is 5 $. I will suggest get your tickets in advanced you will avoid the long line. Enjoy

We had a great time! We did purchase the speed pass in advance after reading how long some people had to wait in line. There is a reason this attraction sells out! Because it’s worth it!
Scary, funny, entertaining, and all done by volunteers. The money raised by this attraction is donated to charity and yet the the actors put their best effort into their performance more than some who are in it for money and getting paid. We have attended 3 years in a row and will likely go again. We are more than willing to travel the 80 minutes it takes us to get there. It’s worth the trip.

TOT is a blast, if you can afford it. I love that they donate a generous portion of their profit to local charity’s — so it certainly goes to a great cause but for a family of 4 to go, we’re looking at $ 80, for less than an hour of entertainment.
We haven’t attended the past two years because of the steep ticket price. In the future I would love to see a few bargain nights, maybe something like a few weekday nights since their only open on the weekends?
It’s recommended and quite fun, can’t take that away from the setup.

I went to the Trail of Terror for the first time this year. The actors were absolutely amazing. You absolutely get what you pay for. I roll my eyes at scary movies, I was genuinely afraid of this! The trick is, you don’t know what’s just a fake figure and a person standing in the dark. Be prepared for crawling (multiple times), climbing and walking on uneven surfaces. If my boyfriend weren’t in front of me I’d be lost as the trail is windy and super long! (30 – 45 minutes…) I got the fast pass online and had to wait for an hour but it flies by as there’s entertainment around the entrance. I absolutely give this place five stars! Here’s a tip for you, don’t eat ahead of time. You’ll regret it!

We purchased tickets online for a timeslot to go, hearing that people wait in line for a long time, and had NO PROBLEM waiting or getting in. A little planning ahead is all you need to have a super time.
Parking is great, $ 5 a car, and the tickets online were $ 20 each, a good price for such an attraction.
The details are phenomenal, the actors were incredible. Yes, a lot of jump out and scares, but seriously, you’re going to a HAUNTED TRAIL, people, did you expect actual zombies? The actual walk through is about an hour, and does include some walking up and down a few stairs, ramps, crawling through a crawlspace (if someone in front of you ahem, passes gas, you’re screwed, just sayin’) going through a slide… they do have pass throughs for some of the things in case you’re too big or too scared.
There is a midway point for photo ops and a little concession stand to get a snack or a dink. Oh… there’s also a concession stand during the wait to get in, which is very reasonably priced.
All in all… had a great time and definitely do it again!
My advice is to buy the tickets in advance on line…

I say this every time but I have to and I deserve to. I’ve been to more New England attractions than ANYONE and I visit anywhere from 30 to 40 haunts a year. That being said I can say that Trail of Terror is probably the best in New England.
The great thing about T.o.T is that it has it’s own spirit. They change up the design completely every year (which is incredible in itself) but they still have that «cheap but somehow works better than expensive» New England feel to it (if that makes sense). And it’s really non stop terror. Once you are in you are pushing yourself through multiple worlds of Horror. And I’m not sure where they are getting these kids for actors but damn they are doing a good job.
The only problem it’s popularity. They are VERY good at sending only so many people through every few minutes. Not like these other places that act like you want to go in with the 15 people that have been annoying you to death in line for the past few hours. Or in the off chance you don’t get to go with them but they’re either too fast behind you or too slow in front of you. There’s no perfect solution but T.o.T does a good job regulating it. And part of that is ticket sales. They only sell so many tickets a night. I want to say maybe 80% of tickets are sold online and that’s only because they want to have «some» tickets to sell at the gate. Most nights a guy comes out into the road with a sold out sign by 8:30 and of you were the last person to buy a ticket then I hope you like standing. This isn’t a «what you guys wanna do tonight» thing. I plan for it months in advance.

Their website is horrible. You can only buy speed passes online but their FAQ says you can buy general admission if you show up. Well, my girlfriend and I showed up at 8pm but they were sold out for the night. They stay open until after 11pm. It sucked because we drove 40 minutes to get there but all they could tell us if that we were out of luck.

I love the Trail of Terror, and have gone 3 years in a row. It is so well done, is long enough to make it worth the wait and price, and you can just see how much love these folks put into doing this every year. It is legitimately scary, so definitely not appropriate for young kids, and unfortunately it isn’t accessible for people with physical disabilities/​mobility issues (bumpy walkways, climbing steps and ladders, pushing through or crawling through tight spaces, etc.).
You either have to get there several hours earlier than you think you need to (as in, before dark!) or buy the $ 20 speedpass to avoid being disappointed. The one year I didn’t get a speedpass, we showed up before sunset and waited for around 3 hours, but getting there that early (I think it was like 5:30ish) at least got us a spot in the main part of the line, where they have actors, dance routines (i.e., Thriller!) and all kinds of spooky things to entertain you while you wait. If you get there any later, expect the line to be well out into the parking area where there isnt anything cool going on, or worse, for it to be sold out altogether.
I’ve done the speedpass 2 years in a row now, and it is so worth the $ 20! You wait less than an hour which is fun anyway because a little wait is good to build anticipation and enjoy the aforementioned spooky waiting-​area entertainment. Unfortunately, you now even have to buy the speedpasses a week in advance, before they sell out. It’s just getting too popular! They probably need to do an identical Trail of Terror somewhere else in the area just to break up the crowd! :-)

The boyfriend surprised me with a date to the Trail of Terror this past Saturday. We’d never been before, but I’ve always wanted to go. (We tried a few years ago, but it was sold out by the time we got there, and it should be noted that the people who were definitely getting in still had an over-​three-​hour wait.) Tickets are $ 10 if you’re willing to wait, but you can also pay $ 20 ahead of time online to get fast passes. Boyfriend got the fast passes, and we still waited about an hour, but it was totally worth the time saved/​not risking it selling out. Also, the trail itself is at least $ 20 worth of entertainment. (And the money goes to charity, so how can you feel bad about that?) I couldn’t stop saying, «This is so well done!» as I walked through. Every part of the trail is as if you’re going through a different part of a horror movie. It’s like you’re actually in a scary basement, like you’re actually in a funeral home, like you’re actually in a crazy German techno club with blood all over the walls and strobe lights. Everything was so well done.
It was also really scary. I had my share of spooks and screams, and every turn was a new adventure/​scare. There were parts where I had to crawl through small spaces. There were parts where I had to cross bridges and felt like I was getting turned all around. It was just really cool. Most of the crowd seemed to be high school kids on dates or in big groups, but there were also some older people and people in their mid-​twenties like me and my boyfriend. I think it’s fun at any age, though I wouldn’t bring young children because it’s really scary. Overall, a real fun Halloween activity.

Spiders, clowns, chainsaws, scarecrow, ware wolves, with over 20 different scenes, theres something to scare the shit out of everyone. You will walk, crouch and crawl, maybe even piss your pants. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared for an experience like no other.
Gates open at 7 but the line starts forming before 5 so arrive early. I drove over 2 hours from Boston, waited about 2 hours in line, and drove another 2 hours back home but I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
The most incredible haunted house ever. Highly recommended.

Trail of Terror is an outdoor haunted trail of sorts. Basically its a 30 – 40 minute walk through all sorts of different themes scenes.
During Halloween I was in a production of Rocky Horror in Middletown which last for two weekends. In between the weekends we decided to get together as a cast and check out Trail of Terror. We saw online that if you went on the regular line it was $ 10 but speed pass which gets you in quicker was $ 20. When we got there no one was on line for speed pass but general admission had about 30 people on line. We decided we might as well go with speed pass since it would help us avoid the line and it went to the red cross anyway so we might as well.
They let us in around 7 o’clock and being that we were the first speed pass group we were one of the first ones in, which was nice because other people were held up by us, but no one was able to hold us up.
In comparison to other haunted hay rides and such I have been to this was definitely the scariest. There were some points that weren’t that scary, but other that were, and others like the diner were just gross.
It was definitely worth the $ 20 bucks that we spent on it. I think the coolest part of the night was once we were done and were standing outside getting ready to head back out. We were just finishing filling out our survey’s and then all of a sudden we hear «Oh my god you guys are the rocky horror cast.»
It was really awesome. One of the women who was part of the Trail of Terror that didn’t get there until later because they were working during the day. They were about to head on to the trail when they spotted us. Apparently they saw us the prior Saturday during the midnight performance.
Its pretty cool to feel like a celebrity. I can’t wait until next year so I can go see it again!
