A great experience marred by Rob Rypysc in Finance
My wife and I had an overall good experience. Our Sales gentleman, Eric Concepcion was terrific. He was honest, helpful, accommodating, and genuine. He answered all of my questions without being forceful. He accommodated us well, as we had a toddler with us and needed to come back two additional times. Our salesman, Eric, even came in on his off day so that we could test drive while our daughter was still at Day Care. I would deal him again and recommend him to anyone.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Rob Rypysc in Finance.
We had been preapproved from a lender with a good rate, length and payment. The lender said that Toyota was an eligible dealer and that only a phone call and our reference number was needed to approve the loan. Rob blantantly lied to us and claimed that he did not deal with our lender and tried to sell us to a different lender we were not interested in. When we tried to call the lender to resolve the issue, Rob went so far as to tell us we had to call from the sales floor because he had another customer waiting. So, in the middle of our financial consultation, he basically kicked us out.
I can’t stress enough how rude, dishonest, and inconsiderate he was to both my wife and I.
We waited 30 minutes to speak with the finance manager, Sohail. When we did, he quickly showed us our lender at the top of the lender list, made a quick phone call to thelender, spoke with someone briefly that he seemed quite personable with, and gave us the loan we wanted with the lender that Rob claimed was not affiliated with the dealership. Sohail apologize for the ordeal and even brought my daughter a teddy bear.
Its too bad that one guy in the finance department, Rob Rypysc, ruined what was otherwise and pleasant and effortless experience.

YES Ron that is exactly what they said you’ll get your first scratch here then the group of them laughed as I squeezed into my FJ.

This has been my experience at this dealership, I would like to share with all those willing to listen.
For the last week I’ve been in contact with Heather at Wallingford and she has been incredibly helpful and polite. I don’t live in Connecticut but I made an appointment for the following Saturday and took a little road trip over.
My sales associate with Dan Roberts. He was polite during the test drive but the actual car buying process was full of dealer tricks and stress.
I’ve purchased plenty of cars in the past and I’ve never had a dealership constantly pull so many «by the book» dealer tricks. Please do your research before coming here, there are tons of really helpful car buying guides to avoid these.
Let me start off by saying that they didn’t even own the title, no one explained this to me before driving over a hundred miles into their spider web.
They started by printing a low-​ball KBB pricing for my trade in. I had the KBB website in front of me and the fake KBB paper they printed was over a thousand dollars lower. Just because there’s the KBB logo on it, doesn’t mean it’s the actual pricing of your trade in. Please be warned and check this yourself!
I talked the price up and they were doing me a huge favor, it was still at least 500 under the KBB fair trade in value.
The purchase order was also a mess. They threw in «optional» items such as a VIN number etching service for $ 180. The VIN etching kit can be purchased for 20 $ and installed by any garage if you really want it. It’s not necessary, they feed you a line such as «Your insurance will go down if you have this on your windows». I called my insurance, Liberty Mutual, and they said that they don’t provide such discounts. Even if your insurance does, please don’t let them tag on all these optional prices. I know this is common knowledge but read the contract carefully, they don’t tell you when they put all these on there.
Financing was non-​existent. I work full time in my career but I carry quite a bit of college debt as well as some credit cards I used for school books and emergencies. It was a bit hard for me to find myself financing. For weeks I’ve called multiple lenders and sources to see if I can find a loan. During this time, I called and emailed Wellingford, asking for assistance on this matter. I explained to them that I would really appreciate some assistance finding a loan. I was told «You should start making phone calls to your bank» and then no responses for days. I never got an email back and every time I called the direct line, I was ignored. The only time I had someone answer was when I called the main office and waiting on hold. I’ve never actually had to ask to help buy a car.
Finally, I got a hold of Ron Jackson, the manager. I explained to them that I was incredibly frustrated and no one was helping me with any loan assistance. That I can’t find a loan on my own and because of this, I would like my deposit back. He immediately responded with that he’ll send me my deposit back in a check and then hung up. He didn’t know my name or ask for my mailing address.
So I called back immediately and talked to the women at the front desk. I wasn’t in their computer nor was she even aware that I requested my deposit back.
What makes it worst is that I called that following Monday and was transferred back to Dan. He then said he wasn’t aware that I was getting the deposit back and that he’ll send it out as soon as he can.
How many times would I need to request my own deposit back for them to actually send it back to me? A better question is, how many times do you need to constantly badger someone for help and be ignored?
I’ve received my deposit. I honestly thought they were going to say it was lost in the mail while never actually sending it to me.
Please be warned. This is my experience and I know I will never recommend anyone to come here. My family will be purchasing their cars far away from this place in the future.
I hope all these positive reviews aren’t all purchased from websites.

I went back to see Mr. Bob Zion Jr to solicit his help with the autobody he had repaint my Tundra. It has been several weeks and the paint is still soft. You can put your fingernail thru it. This was the first time I haf the chance to see him since he authorized the paint work to fix some deep dings that happened when I left my vehicle there for an annual service. I tried to show his staff in his absence but they just seemed confused. For some reason only Bob Jr was allowed to discuss this issue althought the owner Bob Sr was in his office??? I called and when I heard Bob Jr was around I drove to the dealer and approached him in the lot and asked if he could help me with the body shop he used to do the repair work. He was very rationale the first time we met but this time his face grew red and he yelled at me to get off his lot. I asked him if he would look at the paint job since it looks good; but only when you touch it you can see it is defective. I would think he would be curious since he outsources to this paint shop. He refused to look at my vehicle and said to never come back as I caused him alot of trouble. Well I am facing 1200 dollars to redo a paint job due to damage done to my vehicle in their care from a 120 dollar oil change. Guess next stop is BBB.

I would run, not walk away from this dealer. They are rude and take no responsibility for any problems that they cause. I purchased 2 cars at the same time and a few days later when I brought a new car back because of obvious scratches on a rear window (pointed out to me by someone else) they said that I did that. I have never scratched any car window and the car only had a few miles on it. It was clearly not checked out by them before delivery. That was the first of many problems I had with them. Worst dealer of any car I have ever dealt with. Never again.

I just bought a certified pre-​owned 2008 Yaris at Toyota Scion of Wallingford. Frank Pagalucia was my salesman and he was great. It was one of the best sales experiences I’ve ever had. The car was immaculate, the financing was super, and I plan on buying more cars at Toyota Scion of Wallingford.

I went into Toyota of Wallingford to hear about the options for co-​signing a car loan for my boyfriend. When I came to the decision that I did not want to sign, I was extensively harassed by three members of their team. I was asked if I thought my boyfriend would break up with me during the time of my loan, whether I trusted my boyfriend or not, why I was being such a pessimist, etc. When I reiterated the point that I was not going to be co-​signing the loan, they continued harassing me until I was in tears. At that point, one man said I hope I didn’t upset you, I didn’t mean to pressure you, and the woman mentioned that I looked upset from walking into the building. Needless to say, I walked out and let my boyfriend finish the cancellation of the transaction.
I would NEVER recommend this car dealership to anyone. I understand that it is part of the business to be convincing, but harassment is inappropriate and never acceptable in my eyes.

i am disappoint. would not do business with this dealership again, ever, for any reason. people are friendly enough at first, but business practices are very very sleazy. i had this whole big long thing written out, but it would make me uniquely identifiable with the dealership and i don’t really want that. what if i have to get some warranty service? wouldn’t want any malicious wrenches touching my vehicle…
here is the sleazy bit… please read this, and keep it in mind if and when you go to buy a used car from this dealership (or any other, for that matter!).
they claim to sell used cars at «mark to market» prices, using some sort of sophisticated computer/​algorithm that monitors things on the internet and presumably non-​public (i.e. dealership-​shared) sales data to «make sure you’re getting the lowest/​best price possible.» they claim that price is not negotiable because of this, but they’ll throw all sorts of other shit at you to try and sweeten the deal… oil changes for life, floor mats, bed liner, whatever it takes short of dropping the price. they do this because those things are cheaper for the dealer than they are for you, so they’re creating all sorts of perceived value for you while costing them very little. what this does, psychologically, is make you think you’re getting a good deal… or at least not the shit end of the stick!
what they don’t tell you is that the bottom end… what they pay for the car at auction or on a trade-in…is not «marked to market.» the difference between this value and the sale price is the dealership’s margin… and they don’t pay the same for all the celicas on the lot, even if they all have the same trim level! as such, price should absolutely be negotiable, and it’s bullshit that they say it isn’t.
my advice, if you’re buying a used car at least, would be to walk out the door as soon as they say they can’t negotiate on price. i was tricked by the «perceived value smoke screen» and ended up with an unsatisfactory result and a feeling like i paid too much… so here i am, leaving a negative but honest review.

jan 2014 edit: so toyota of wallingford reached out, which was great because the problem that starting this whole thing reared its ugly head again recently… talked to diane r. and it sounds like they’re trying to make it right! maybe there’s a happy ending to this story after all? stay tuned, folks…

My wife and I decided to retire our 2004 MINI Cooper S and maximize our future car’s mpg so a Prius was the only choice.
I did my research online, knew exactly what I wanted, how much the MSRP was and, with this not being the first car I have ever bought I knew about how long it was going to take with test drive and purchase.
The most important thing when it comes to dealing with a car salesman for us is that the salesman needs to take the time to explain everything, listens to what we have to say, in no way try any tricks with extra add-​ons we didn’t ask for or needed and that my wife didn’t feel pressured into the sale. This is exactly what we found with Dan Roberts at Toyota of Wallingford. We got exactly what we wanted at the price we wanted to pay. If you are looking for a new car give Dan Roberts at Toyota of Wallingford a call and you will not be disappointed.

Adequate service, decent waiting areas, can be overly busy at times which makes wait times long

I’m making a big move to California and decided that instead of renting a uhaul truck to move all of my precious cargo, I’d trade in my leased Toyota Camry SE for a Rav 4 and get a trailer hitch and pull that load on my own…
I’d heard through the grapevine that Toyota was giving deals to current lease holders with an early opt out option if you moved into another Toyota lease which I was prepared to do…
I’d done a google search previous to my arrival and Toyota of Wallinford had received great reviews so I followed the writing on the wall and went in. I was greeted by friendly people and was connnected with salesman «Leo» who honestly is the only reason I am giving these fools two stars… Leo was patient, funny and most of all quite flexible and knowledgeable about the Rav 4– I didn’t feel too pressured, we talked numbers and although seemingly a little high — they fit into my budget. To make up my mind they ended up letting me take the car home for the weekend
Monday rolled around and alas I’d decided that yes I wanted the Pearl White Rav 4 with all of the bells and whistles that I apreciate. As planned I returned the car, informed Leo that yes I want to make the purchase and told him that I couldn’t do all of the paperwork that day but would come back Tuesday after work.
Of course I rush over there afterwork on Tuesday, the car has been detailed sitting out front waiting for me to drive away with it looking oh so purty— Leo greets me tells me i have to go sit down with fiancing to complete the deal no problem … but here is where things get sticky. I am brought over to Sohail Butt’s office, he is on the phone when I am seated and he starts off the conversation with «theres a problem, I wasn’t here yesterday and no body checked into your current lease, you have 8 payments left on your lease and you have to have 6 – 7 left in order to get the promotion» … immediately I was floored as I’d already talked numbers with Leo, left a $ 1600 deposit and essentially was ready to walk away with the car. He then informs me that I will now be looking at a monthly payment about $ 80 more than what we’d previously agreed upon… Probably not! I walked out and gladly gave my business to Toyota of Westbrook… Your ridiculous mistakes Toyota of Wallingford just gave Westbrook a new customer

Leased a vehicle here. I’m very happy with the car. Got complimentary oil, lube, filter, car washes, and battery. Service department can be a little slow. Even an oil change takes 45 min.

The worst service I’ve ever had. I got swindled!
The sales person lived up to all the bad stereotypes of a used car salesman, i.e. like a smooth talking BS artist only out to make a buck, and doesn’t really give a hoot about you.
This was when I lived in Conn., but it has burned me up ever since!
I bought a used car from Toyota of Wallingford. I told the salesman I only wanted to see cars with AC. He showed me a car that had AC controls on the dash but no AC unit under the hood. It seems he was hoping I wouldn’t notice until after I bought it, since it was winter time and the air came out cold anyway. Well he was right. I didn’t notice until after I bought it. And by their actions they basically told me «screw you, that’s your problem that you trusted us».
I paid several thousand dollars cash for this car, and it also hesitated when going up hills, and burned oil. The salesman PROMISED over and over they would fix that and anything else wrong with it before i picked it up. Well, they NEVER fixed it! Then when I made an appointment to try to get that fixed after I bought it, they made an appointment for me on a day they were closed! They ignored virtually all my communications, and it seems they tried to hold me off until after the 30 day warranty expired.
The only customer care they gave was in order to get my money. They showed lots of interest and care up to that point. Then the second I paid, all customer care and service came to a screeching halt! From then on, if I was able to contact anyone at all, it was all broken promises and a «we got your money now go screw yourself» attitude.
I would never trust a thing anyone at that dealership says and I wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy!
