I must say, I am more than pleased with the service, as well as the awesome haircut. I haven’t switched my haircut since I was a child. I’ve been getting a skin-​4 fade for the past 10 years or so and finally decided to switch it up. James helped me chose a new style and suggested that I grow the top out, so that’s what I did. I went back yesterday and he showed me the best way to style my hair and suggested what type of product to use.
For those who are skeptical about switching barbers, here’s this. I was driving over 25 minutes away just to get my haircut at the same barber I’ve been using for as long as I can remember, but unfortunately it’s just a little too far and a waste of my time. Now I am able to make an appointment online, pay with a credit card, and drive less than 5 minutes and get the perfect hair cut. I’ve heard nothing but good reviews about Virile and I hope it continues. Virile might be a little more expensive than some other barbers in the area, but it is absolutely worth it!
P. S. The products that they sell in the store are AWESOME!!!

I decided to treat myself to a hot towel shave and haircut for my birthday today! I have never been to a barber before and I decided to go for it. I called last week and they booked me an appointment with Jim.
This was such a great experience! He asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and I showed him a picture. I told him that if he had any suggestions to pet me know. He was very meticulous and did an amazing job! The shave was also, awesome! I could definitely get used to a monthly visit here!
Do yourself a favor and book an appointment with Jim! You won’t regret it!

Literally received the best hair cut I’ve ever gotten before from Nicolette. In fact I didn’t even make it home afterwards before getting my first compliment from the gentleman at the toll booth.
Super chill/​nice girl, rad shop, perfect hair cut, cool vibe… doesn’t get much better than that. Worth driving an hour and half for.

After reading great reviews and been looking for a good barber shop, I decided to give Virile a try. My appointment was with Jim, he was great and gave recommendations on what i could to do my hair. Jim gave me a clean cut and i was really happy with the results.
Price is a bit high but i did not mind paying since thats the cost for a great haircut and to make me feel good.
Definitely will be coming back once every month for a haircut. Based on what i read, all of other barbers have great reviews.

Coolest barber shop. Listening to Jane’s Addiction… looking at super cool décor. Guys are all tatted up and the barber chairs are to die for gorg! 100 year old chairs that look like pieces of art! Cool motorcycle greets you when you walk in. Hair cut for my son looks awesome!

I love this nostalgic barbershop. I could visit here just for the 2 bulldog mascots, but I’d be sure to get a great beard trim from one of the master barbers. Well done!

I personally think I’m very particular with my hair. In the past, I would be almost scared to get a haircut because I didn’t want someone to f*** it up and leave the shop unsatisfied. After my previous barber moved away from the area, I was faced with the dilemma of finding a new barber and a new place to trust my hair.
After doing a lot of research and scanning the field for a new place to trust with my hair, I found Virile. And I don’t regret it one bit.
I’ve been getting my cuts from Jim and I believe I found someone who I feel I can trust with my hair and feel comfortable in the chair. And to have that experience is all you can ask for when having a haircut.
The best part about Virile is that they tell you their game plan about what they are going to do with your hair after you tell them what you want. If you listen to the barbers talk to their clients, you can immediately tell they know their craft and care about their customers (who are paying a decent amount for a good haircut — but totally worth it).
Yes, maybe some people aren’t willing to spend for the experience that you receive here. But for people that want the experience I just described, give this place a shot and I’m very confident you won’t regret it.

Yet another great experience at Virile, this time for my 1^st haircut with Dan.
A complete change in style was what I was going for and Dan knew exactly what I wanted and what would look best.
He took his time with the consult, offering suggestions and ideas.
Once again, his professionalism and attention to detail always seem to stand out.

Finally a great barbershop in the area. Oh and it’s pretty cool inside too. My barber Nicola was very friendly and professional. Highly recommend her. Wash, cut, blow dry and style for 30 bucks. Oh and a complimentary beer –Riverhorse– upon arrival. Woah. I don’t have to travel to the city for a great cut anymore!

Better not give less than 4 star review or the owner will call you to confront your personal opinion and say you are not welcome back, YES it’s true. My son who is a returning client (been there a few times), is not welcome back due to my review on Google. It’s a shame an adult/​owner can not accept constructive criticism. Here is my Google review on this barber shop… My son goes here when he is home from college, and took me with him recently since we were shopping afterwards. He received a great cut from Nicollete. She listened to him and suggest what will work to make him happy with his haircut. Good customer service by all employees. They are focused on their clients haircuts. In my opinion they need to step it up… offer customers something to drink/​snack when they arrive, keep the place CLEAN at all times — it’s very dusty everywhere, the throw rug has never seen a vacuum, the hardwood floors are nice but they go unnoticed because it needs to be swept all day, everyday and mopped at least once a day, all the barbers shake the cover-​up that goes on each client instead of getting a clean one… how can you not get a clean one? Sorry that is gross. Makes me wonder what else is not clean. One of the barbers keeps his area very clean, and all his equipment. If all barbers, especially the owner took a note from him the place would be a 5 star barber shop. The owner should take more responsibility/​ownership/​pride in his business!

First time here at Virile today, Kevin did a great job. I showed him a pic of the cut I wanted and voila! Pricier than your corner shop but worth it. Great atmosphere and professional barbers.

On a recommendation from a friend I paid a visit for a haircut and a hot shave. It’s like they took a piece of Brooklyn and brought it to Bergen Co. Staff is very friendly and quick to offer a libation.
Definitely a specific style of cut and technique so I took a chance to go with the flow — chap did a good job and was very thorough. They also produce their own products (a mix of aromas incl tobacco) so bought one.
I also treated myself to a hot lather shave — could be one of the best I have had (and I have had many). Took his time which was key.
Overall a great experience at a very reasonable price. Definitely a place to visit but make a reservation (clearly a popular place).

I moved to NJ 7 years ago from Brooklyn NY. I could not find a spot to get a cut for the life of me, I’m a grown man and ever «barber» in north jersey was giving me a lineup. I had to unfortunately drive back into BK to get a real haircut. A year ago i googled looking for a hot shave in Northern NJ. I came across Virile Barbershop and have been a loyal customer.
I personally use Nicolette, she is a great conversation and the girl can cut hair and shave with the best of them. I have also been late to an appointment and had to «settle» for Jim, who at the time was an apprentice and the dude gave me a great cut. Everyone in the shop has been great so far. The price is great, it’s 2015, I pay around $ 20.
Also while you wait you can have a cup of coffee or a nice drink. Sometimes there are dogs who are awesome. Make sure you make an appointment.

I always look for a place that gives a good haircut and a hot towel shave. I am a real pain in the ass when I comes to shaves as I even go to the art of shaving in NYC just for a shave. This was a real good shave pretty close to art of shaving. A true hot towel shave is an 11 step process they do 8 of the steps which is pretty close. Was satisfied with both the haircut and shave. Eventhough it’s 20 miles from my house I will probably return

Amazing experience. Modeled on a late 1800’s Barbershop its full of Americana. Old books and magazines, a café racer motorcycle, heritage barbers chairs and a kick ass whiskey selection he can you go wrong? Got there early for an appointment and was given a whiskey on the rocks while I hung out with the two English bulldogs. Got my head shaved and my beard trimmed with Dan. Fantastic barber and a super personable barber.
Brooklyn style and vibe in a sleepy NJ suburb. Fantastic option for those of us not traveling into NYC on the weekend. You won’t be disappointed.

Had my first visit here not too long ago. with the good reviews I was excited about the prospect of having a new spot, as my last few haircuts weren’t so great. I didn’t feel very welcome here to be honest though. It seemed like my being there was causing a strange atmosphere in the place. felt as if everyone was trying to ‘keep cool’ and act natural until I left. whenever anyone would talk to the guy cutting my hair it sounded like they were trying to hold back laughter, as if they were mocking the fact that he had me in his chair. I’m not really a good looking guy, so I guess they’re used to a certain client. considering that, I can’t really blame them. Fair enough. As far as the haircut itself, best I’ve gotten in a while and that’s all that really matters. always enjoy it when a cut doesn’t feel rushed. Didn’t get asked to schedule a follow up, so I took the hint! haha

My go-​to is Kevin — a Master Barber who has good technique and knows the trends to keep you looking sharp. I’ve never had a bad cut with this guy.

Well…come here, and you get what you pay for — great service, and they wash your hair, free booze, on-​time appointments, and barbers that know how to keep you looking sharp and on trend. I think the prices here are pretty reasonable. If the prices here are too much for you, go get your bowl-​cut from the Lemon Tree or Supercuts.

I had my cut today with Nicolette, hands down the best cut I’ve EVER had!
From the ambient, to the knowledge, to the fun easygoing conversation, to being offered a drink while getting your cut, it’s just amazing! Virile just got themselves a new regular!

Amazing shop. Walk in and you feel like you walked back in time. Old Barber chairs and feel free to grab a whisky while you are waiting. The barbers are all amazing and really nice. Adam who owns the shop down to earth guy. You don’t know what style you want, they will make you look great. They are also opening a shop in Jersey City.
