Pedro’s Judo Center is run with a warm, family-​friendly atmosphere. Pedro’s Judo Center Program Director, Jimmy Pedro, is one of the highest regarded coaches and athletes in US history. All Pedro’s Judo Center staff are USA Judo certified coaches, hold high level black belts, and have years of Judo instruction experience. All Pedro’s Judo Center coaches are alumni of Pedro’s Judo Center, most staff have children of their own enrolled in Pedro Judo Center programs

Our Head Instructor, Riley McIlwain, has been training under Sensei Jimmy Pedro since 2004. Sensei Riley has deep ties to the Pedro’s Judo lineage with his father a Third Degree Black Belt under Sensei Jim Pedro Sr. Sensei Riley currently attends Salem State University and currently operates Pedro’s Judo Center under Sensei Jimmy Pedro.

Enrolling my children at Pedro Martial arts is one of the most important things I have ever done as a parent for my children. I started going to Pedro’s Judo a number of years ago primarily as a means for myself to stay in shape. After a couple months the dojo expanded their class schedule to include children’s classes, so I enrolled my children.
The benefits of the physical conditioning and training extended into many other areas of my children’s lives. The improvement in their school work and study habits was the most noticeable. The leadership and self-​confidence they gained is something that they will use for the rest of their lives.
As a parent I felt compelled to write this to let other parents know what I experienced. I searched for a lengthy period of time to find some type of after school activity or sport for my children that would have the best and most positive influence in their life. I found it at Pedro’s Judo.

Our family had somewhere between 18 and 24 months experience with PJC. For the first year or so it was was great and our son loved it. He was learning, enthusiastic, and excited! Was really a blast to see how much he got out of it.
Then things changed. Everything became designed to nickle and dime us (ie selling ancillary products like «Juice Plus» became a regular part of events at PJC), the primary kids instructor changed and we seemed to have a revolving door of people teaching classes, and the overall mood of the place really changed.
To be clear all of the instructors were clearly competent at judo but the level of constructive engagement with the kids varied widely (from really good to way too much yelling for our taste) and the lack of consistency really made it tough for him to stay engaged.
Any attempts to offer any feedback were more or less ignored and we finally got tired of feeling like we were forcing our son to do something he no longer enjoyed. We ended up leaving despite attempts to compel us to pay for several more months of classes that were supposedly on our ‘contract.‘
Was really unfortunate — for a while the experience was terrific.
