Beware… The worst movers you can find in whole boston… On move day, something went wrong, supposedly god knows whats the truth. they didnt show up… next day they came late and moved the stuff by severely damaging most. horrible movers.especially the 3 guys Shane, John and a teenager who called them moving crews, such shame. both of them was drunk at work, one is a teenager with no work ethics. Also once they start working, they will keep making sympathetic stories to gain extra tips and how ill treated are they by the owner of the company. dont fall into thier trap. they are really a bunch of burglars and frauds…

I hired 2 people for 2 hours to assist with moving some heavy furniture. I chose 10−11am and they showed up at 10:05. They moved all of the heavy furniture downstairs and packed it into the Uhaul truck I had rented within 30 minutes. Since that is all I had listed, I expected them to leave once they had finished. Instead, they took a look at the garage where there were tons and tons of boxes and said they would pack those too. We tried to help and they told us they would take car of it all. Another 30 minutes later our truck was fully packed with room to spare, and we were ready to go! This left us with tons of energy to move all of our belongings into our new place! They were very helpful and professional, and I would definitely use them again! Thank you J&J Movers!

I had the worst moving experience with this company. The employees present themselves without packaging materials, 4 hours late, and then expended extra hours buying them in a store 20 min away, and were not enough for the moving. They didn’t have anything to protect my clothes and asked me for trash-​bags! They even asked me to supply them tools to take off the bed’s headboard and dinning table legs! Definitely they were not prepared for the moving at all! My belongings were left unattended in the snow, and I catch several times one of the movers smoking his cigarettes. Another was drinking my liquor and had a drunk smell. Very unprofessional! At the end I had to call my friends to help me move the rest because the movers didn’t move all my belongings from the 1 bedroom apartment. I had to find 10 boxes to pack the rest and move all my clothes with the assistance of my friends! I talked to the owner and replied that he only cared about the money I was going to pay him! I still fell that I paid way too much! What a rip-​off! I almost had to contact the police because they were trying to «stay» with my TV because the owner told them to do so! I have pictures that prove all I have said here if you would like to see them for yourself!

Up until move day, working with J&J was great. We talked over email, and finalized the time over the phone. Two or three days before the move I confirmed with the company.
On move day– this is where things went wrong. They called at 2pm (which was our scheduled move time) to say they would be ½ hour to an hour late. No big deal! This happens with movers. I said ok, no prob, see you at 3pm.
3:30pm rolls around, and no movers, and no call.
I call and leave messages at 3:30, 3:40, and 3:50.
It is now 2 hours past our scheduled move time. We needed to get out of our house that day– and J&J movers have not showed up– and even worse they are not answering the phone or returning our calls.
We had to move out that day, our dogs had been at the sitters since 1pm and I had no idea what to do.
I finally decide to just go to u-​haul and hope they had trucks available. We called our family and friends, and at 4:30 pm on a Saturday had to start moving our entire house ourselves.
J&J movers finally called at around 4:30 — which is 2 ½ HOURS LATE to say they «may» be there at 5:20 or 5:40– which would be CLOSE TO 4 HOURS LATE.
We were lucky that we had family and friends who could help us, and are young enough to move ourselves. I couldn’t help wondering what a person would do if they hired this joke of a company, and were elderly, or not physically capable of moving themselves. It’s not like you can get another company to move you on such short notice.
DO NOT hire this company unless you are VERY flexible with your move date– and don’t care if your moving company actually shows up at all

Worst moving company. My first review was erased but people should know that this company is a joke. They don’t show up when they say they will, they dont call you when they are VERY late and they see nothing wrong about being 4 – 5 hours late. They gave me attitude when I told them not to show up after they were more than 4 hours late and I just rented a U Haul and saved my money. AWFUL SERVICE, AWFUL COMPANY. Save your time and money and go somewhere else.

We had been referred to J&J by our friends. They also had a great experience with J&J.
Here our assessment of J&J.
I cannot recommend J&J more highly. They were fantastic! They showed up on time, were super friendly, the pricing was completely fair and reasonable and they didn’t scratch a single wall or piece of furniture. The day they moved us out was extremely hot, nevertheless they work super hard. Aaron and Louie were great!
We had some pretty heavy and awkward stuff in our house (e.g., 30″” wide screen tube TV set that had to weigh 300 lbs). Somehow they managed to fit it all into the truck. We were amazed how they made it all fit in such a neat and orderly manner.
Most notably was J&J’s flexibility. After we had loaded all of our stuff onto the truck, at the last minute our closing was delayed. We were day to day trying to get the buyers of our house to come to the closings. I would have completely understood if the movers were upset with us. George was a saint, in his patience with us. He told us to deal with our closing and don’t worry about the moving. In all, our stuff was left on a truck for 9 days. Everything came back perfect.
If you have to move use J&J!

I have had to move several times in the last six years, and this was, by far, the worst and most expensive move of my life! I had used J&J last year to move furniture from storage, and they were fine, so I decided to use them again to move from Beverly to Swampscott. I sent them an itemized list of everything that needed to be moved, as well as explaining that there were stairs in both locations. I received a bid of under $ 1000, and the move ended up costing me over $ 3700! They started on a Thursday a.m., but had to do two trips, because their truck wasn’t big enough — so I paid for travel time. It was sweltering hot, and there were only three men, which wasn’t enough. They quit early that day due to the heat, promising to come back the following day at noon. The next day, there was no word from them until 6:30 p.m., with an assurance that they «were coming»! At 7:30, one of the movers called to say that they would be there at 8:30 p.m. — I said «How is that going to work»? After conceding that that would entail an all-​night move, I said «no», because my neighbors at both ends would have been furious. They then said they couldn’t come back until Sunday a.m. They came back Sunday a.m., again with an inadequate-​sized truck and only three guys. They had to do two trips (travel time again), and even then could not get everything in, which meant that my handicapped boyfriend and I (with a bad back), were left to carry and cart the remaining items (some of them heavy) in our car. They finished the move at 5:30 a.m.!! Now, I can’t assemble my dining table because the hardware is missing … and they have not responded to my phone messages. The one positive thing I can say is that Derrick, Luis, and Ron all worked their rear ends off and had great attitudes. But I would NEVER hire J&J again (I still have to move some stuff out of storage this month) because of their total mismanagement of the move.

I felt compelled to review after not seeing a more recent review, in addition to several low-​ratings. We used J&J for our move from a second-​floor condo to a single family home. Complicating matters on our end was that we needed to stop at a friend’s house to pick up some items in storage along the way, which these guys did without hesitation. The initial estimate in time (they charge by the hour) was a bit lower even though we filled out the inventory list ahead of time compared to the actual move time — really the only hiccup in our experience with J&J. The guys moved pretty quick and took time to wrap our wooden furniture. They communicated throughout the entire process, giving me updates on their progress and expectation in completing the job. The 3 movers we had appeared to be very experienced and knew what they were doing. I would entrust my belongings to them again in the future.

I have used them, and recommended them. They are fine, and I use them for my own clients to help with a move. They are a small family business, been around for a while. They wouldn’t still be around if they weren’t good.
On the other reviews here, just handle it. Why the drama? Sometimes you have a bad day. Ask them to fix the damage, or file a claim. They have never come in far over their bid with me. Moving people are not a bunch of machines, people. Sheesh, lighten up. They are low bidders, they want to help people, and they have helped us. I’m glad I can still call on them for help.

Don’t understand the bad reviews! J&J are wonderful and courteous. There was nothing major. Broken or badly scratched. Something always gets broken (our case it was a drinking glass). We did have a small issue with billing but it was resolved quickly and to our satisfaction.
I would recommend them!

I used J&J Movers on ⁸⁄₂₂ for a short, one room move from North Reading to Wakefield. I thought they were great. They showed up an hour early, which was awesome, but I would have appreciated a phone call as a heads up. They moved one very heavy bedroom set for a reasonable flat fee and were done in just over an hour. I have moved this bedroom set before and it cost me almost double. I was more than pleased with their work, there was nothing damaged. Half of our move was done in the rain and they protected all of my furniture. The crew was nice and very polite. I would gladly recommend their services.

They showed up 1.5 HOURS late, and did not call to let me know they were running behind. I placed multiple calls to the moving company, which went unreturned, trying to find out of they were even coming at all. When they finally arrived, they apologized but had no explaination for their delay.
They were the slowest, most inefficient movers I have ever wittnessed. They get paid hourly, and I think they took their time to jack up the price.
They lost a large section of my bookshelf, and they took my bedframe apart but did not put it back together before they left.
All in all, it was a terrible experience and I strongly urge people to stay away from this company.
